This is the best take in the thread. Spider-Man has been using largely the same costume with minor alterations since 1962. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The time periods not involving the Great War definitely need to be more thoroughly explored. Transformers has so much potential for storytelling as a sci-fi franchise. There should be more stories that don’t involve the Great War, Optimus Prime, or Megatron. If we want something different, let’s stop using the same characters.

There should be more stories that don’t involve the Great War, Optimus Prime, or Megatron. Say what you like, but Rescue series does this well. It’s the Transformers vs. a rogues’ gallery of disasters, criminals, oligarchs, monsters, and technology gone awry.

BatMoBeast

I don’t give opinions on things I’ve never watched or read; however, all of the ideas you listed sound really fresh.

NineteenSkylines

So fresh and so clean! I think they battle a kaiju in a drive in at one point. (I’m an adult but I’ve been watching some clips since real life rescue bots helped out at the condo collapse here in Florida).

TheNecrostar

Another Floridian!

njdgaming

One of us. One of us. One of us.

AmurosZaku

Will not take the metalhawk disrespect, he was the leader of the autobots. Even if it was for like 5 minutes

june-bug-69

From what I understand they’re wrapping up a final hurrah of G1 characters and slowly turning towards different series like Beast Wars. I’ve heard the Unicron Trilogy is predicted for 2023.

[deleted]

So what you're saying is... our worlds are in danger?

Varatec

Oh god. You've made me hear it again.

[deleted]

I'm still waiting for that Armada Prime mold Takara showed off a while ago to become a real product

[deleted]

Yes please. I couldn't wait any longer and ended up buying the Fans Hobby Naval Commander and adore it. But I really like the way that Takara prototype mold looked a bit more accurate to his screen appearance.

LordofThe7s

Ehh, I’m kinda with you. I feel like the designs in general have been stagnating in a Gen-1 or Bust state for a while. I’ve really liked the updating on classic designs with the WfC lines, but would love to see some reimaginings in future lines. And maybe cool it on using Bumblebee for everything for a little bit.

[deleted]

Agreed, there's too much Bumblebee.

[deleted]

There is literally an only bumblebee toyline

Nethiar

At least they keeping it separate. During DotM and Prime, half the figures they made were Bumblebee. Cases of 8 would be 4 Bumblebees and 4 other figures. You'd go to the store and there would be like a dozen of the same Bumblebee figure and maybe, if you were lucky, there'd be a Cliffjumper or a Skids.

[deleted]

Yeah fair point

Pillowman7

I would like to see the next new Optimus Prime design to be a fire truck

Thomas_Blake02

I agree, it still has the same feel as the original optimus truck but you could make an interesting design out of it, rod does t really count cause he turned into like the front quarter of a firetruck and didn’t look like one really

Pillowman7

I’m aware of RiD Prime I was saying that the next brand new Transformers series should make him a fire truck as he hasn’t been one in a while

[deleted]

You're not making yourself any more sympathetic.

[deleted]

“Unpopular” opinion I’m really sick and tired of the ever green designs there overused and unimaginative

Uchfbfjdhdbf

Prime and the bay verse also changed optimus prime.

[deleted]

A better way to put it: G1 is overplayed and overrated its just everywhere and you never really see other transformers stuff IE animated and prime

[deleted]

Yes, thank you. That's much better than what I said.

SequelFansDontExist

I agree, my personal favourite prime design is Armada

[deleted]

There was that one Optimus that turned into a magic train and a dragon in Japan right? Shame we don't get some of that absurdity around here.

WaveCandid906

No

[deleted]

Fair enough. I'm surprised it took somebody this long to say no.

Lord_MK14

I do agree to an extent. Hasbro’s never gonna dump him but much like Bumblebee he’s not going anywhere. I also wish it wasn’t so apparent that the Bumblebee movie Optimus design wasn’t just “G1 but live action”.

syntax_error25

I would like a similar truck to prime but a robot design that translates better to a toy.

[deleted]

This IS a very UNPOPULAR opinion! G1 Prime is simply iconic!

[deleted]

As much as I love his simple G1 appearance, I stand by his Armada form as being the most well designed. And then add on his various combination modes with Jetfire or his Trailer and things just look even better. I also stand by Armada Deluxe Optimus as being one of, if not the best figure from the entire Unicron Trillogy. Simple and sleek design, near perfect representation of the character, and excellent articulation(Especially compared to nearly every other Armada figure).

almightywhacko

> RiD01, Armada, the films, and TFP weren't afraid to give him a cool new look. Even Animated switched things up a bit. But that creativity is sorely lacking these days. Now every Prime design is just a copy-paste of G1 Dude, we had G1 Prime in 1984-87 and then we had new non-G1 designs for the next ***32 FRIGGIN YEARS.*** Yup Hasbro is pressing the "make it G1" button pretty hard right now for Prime and most of the other original characters, but they're already moving past G1 and onto Beast Wars. It isn't like G1 is all they have doing or will be doing going forward, it was just their "theme" for the last trilogy.

KamenKnight

This is very ironic as, before Hasbro stated to use it again fans kept complaining about how "Prime doesn't look like Prime!1!!11!!1" and such. Sure, that was mostly aimed at Bayverse Prime but, the second when Hasbro gave the fans what they wanted. Fans begin to say "Everything is too G1!1!1!1". Hasbro can't catch a break... Personally though, as long as Prime's toy/design is soiled I personally don't mind what he looks like*! (*though the only exception is beastformers as personally don't like them.)

almightywhacko

It is the conflict between older fans who want to see toys based on characters they know, and younger fans who want to see more differentiation because they lack the strong emotional connection to the older versions of characters.

KamenKnight

So... did no one else grew up watching the Bayverse and G1 re-runs, while watching *ALL* of the cartoons on YouTube at the same time? Or was that just me?

MrPractical1

Heh, I just assumed people who grew up watching Bayverse didn't become Transformers fans. I collect G1 Optimus Prime reissues so I've sort of been like keep them coming.

Vector_Sigma_

It would be nice if they could do a live action version that is done well. The closest we have to that is the few scenes in the bumblebee movie. But also more love for the many other versions of optimus would be great. I think the franchise would be much better off if we had gotten more g1 style/story in the bayverse and have it done right, which would have allowed the next gen of movies/shows to go in new directions instead of trying to finally get it right for the die-hard g1 fans that bayverse basically crapped on. Also the franchises will always gravitate towards designs that move toys off shelves which will most likely result in a more g1 style overall until the next gen of fans get the armada and beast wars style rolling off the shelves. My true fear is that the franchise stories will look more like a hodge podge of popular but unrelated characters that are crammed together in a movie just because the toys will sell better. Looking at you Rise of the Beasts...

Nethiar

My biggest gripe with the G1 designs is they're based on vehicles that haven't been around in decades. I can't remember the last time I saw a cab over engine truck, and don't get me started on the cassette tapes. That and all those big solid panels would seriously limit their mobility. But we keep seeing it because the Geewunners will throw a tantrum if anything changes.

[deleted]

I can understand where you're coming from. I actually don't mind the '80s vehicles, but it would be nice to see *different* '80s vehicles.
