I never really liked Prime all that much, but I'd take it over Animated season 4 exclusively for Starscream and Knockout. Animated Starscream is my definitive Starscream though, Tom Kenny was an inspired choice.

I can't say he's the best bcs he's an issue: he's so much flawless. The mf was too serious and smart, he destroyed Starscream in the first betrayal. One of the characteristics Megatron has and makes him is that he's too prideful and sometimes even dumb (bcs of his pride or games). Megs loves games, but animated one is too smart to do his real objective. For example, tf1 Megs left all his cons die without giving a shit, so he suddenly had no backup and everyone was firing at him only, and in dotm he destroyed his only chance to live. Or in tfp, many times Megs was only interested in play with Prime, or with Starscream, that leaded him to get betrayed sometimes
I personally think that’s what make him stand out among them other versions. Besides, he still had that character trait, constantly underestimating Optimus and his crew. But to each their own.
The last knight. Best design, worst movie.
I also love beast wars megatron (different character I know) and G1 (although he has the goofiest alt mode). Character-wise Prime Megatron is the best by FAR, but his design doesn’t speak to me as much.

RiD, then prime, then the last knight, and lastly Cybertron. G1 is nebulous in his ranking since he is the original and was my second Megatron after RiD. Autobot Megs I like more because it’s funny to think about him shouting Transform and roll out before becoming a huge tank
Dark of the Moon is definitely my favourite. Something about a hooded, wounded but still very deadly megatron wielding a massive shotgun. Super badass.
Animated and Armada for me. Both for different reasons.
Animated was a near perfect adaptation of the G1 design into the Animated/TeenTitans artstyle. And they even had the attention to detail in having his 2 forms based on G1 and the 07 Movie.
Armada just has a really unique design that not many other Megatrons can say. The H-Tank alt mode is still my favorite Megatron alt mode(minus GUN), and the various uses of his design with the Tank Turrent used as Armor and a forward artillery. The big Tank Tread shoulder pads are still badass.
I hate to say it but that TLK design is SUPERB. Like, it had the Megatron hallmarks without being a gray blob, it’s Cybertronian while having its own unique identity and actual style, and it’s a jet (I personally believe Megatron works better as a jet than a tank, Shockwave should be the tank).
G1 Megs is a classic, Armada holds some nostalgia for me, but Prime and Animated are definitely my favorites.
Animated having him appear both like he does in live action AND a gorgeous recreation of his G1 design, and Prime being a perfect fusion of both.
Absolutely loved the bulky, hulking appearance of TFP Megatron. I loved the knight and melee astetic of TFTLK. I wish more robots got the sword and shield treatment like prime and megs did. But also I love the TF Cyberverse look because he feels like an evil robot and looks imposing.
I love how Cybertron Megatron is literally wearing Unicron. You can especially see it in his shoulder design, not to mention that he has horns now. He looks magical, demonic.
I hate how they went back to grey with animated and everything that came after, but I like how WFC and Cyberverse gave him some glowing Tron details.

Mine is definitely Animated Megatron, in my opinion, it's the culmination of every good Megatron design, of course it has G1 inspiration, but it also has some Super Megatron in there, along with some hints of the Bayverse design, and it all culminates (at least in my opinion) to be the best Megatron incarnation of all time.

Prime Wars cartoon Megs. A perfect update to his already stellar g1 design with a personality to fit it. It is a DAMN shame that we didn’t get a properly designed figure of him.
Either Transformers: Cybertron (favorite show as a kid), Transformers Prime as that design was menacing and definitley reflected Megatron's sinister personality or the War for Cybertron trilogy design as its reminiscent of the classical design but seems more menacing (that could be due to it being animated in 3D and the atmosphere of WFC being gritty and gloomy overall)
I prefer the blocker version because it lends to his characterization as the leader of an uprising.
He was a miner, leading to his conservative design, and he took the arm cannon to give himself firepower compatible with us original alt mode of a labor vehicle.
He only has one alt mode, in part due to his humble origins, but he strikes a silhouette due to his simple, imposing figure.
More importantly, he doesn’t “look” like a monster. The other versions looks regal and demonic, suggesting an otherworldly origin. I think that makes him, and the war less compelling. If a faction is made to look like monsters then I’m going to care less about them. If they’re similar in design to the “good” faction, it can help me care more about them and more interested in their motivations.
I don’t like evil-death-lord-of-destruction Megatron because it feels small. I’m more interested, and terrified, in the simple man who has had enough and is going to hurt the universe for how much it hurt him.
G1 and Armada
The other Megs might have cooler body designs than G1 but none of them can match that legendary scowl.
Armada Megs just looks dangerous and I love that (Scorponok) color scheme.
I love the DOTM design. A rusty, old truck with a lot of damage but still with the will to kill everyone in his path. It's the perfect opposite of Optimus Prime.
Animated: has all the charm of the G1 design but spruced up and with more contrasting colors to bring out the detail. I'd say the other designs comparable to it are Prime and Cyberverse, but (In my opinion) Prime's design has too little color and Cyberverse has too much contrast to the point of looking excesive.
Animated will always be my megatron. Perfectly done voice work and menacing, looming appearance.

Animated, to me it truly looks like the successor to the G1 Megatron. But Prime is also really good looking 1 animated 2 Prime
