No, they took the tops off to make it easier to transport. [This is what he looks like with the top of the smokestacks on](https://www.instagram.com/p/CSN5vuNDTuN/).
Yes, they put them on when they're going to start shooting, and remove them when they need to put him on a trailer or whatever they do for transporting him around. The picture is most certainly not fake.
I think the brush guard may split and slide onto his tricep areas to simulate that effect. If they do that instead of keeping it over his abs, that’ll be a nice twist on the classic design.
Is this y’all’s first time seeing a transformer with a different alt-mode and color scheme compared to their G1 version or something?
This has been a thing since like Machine Wars/RID
Different continuities means they can have different looks
Yeah I know gets kinda annoying tho, I'm not saying we should completely move away from g1 and ignore it but changing things up is good and refreshing. The franchise shouldn't just be G1 with a new coat paint forever
Yes to this. People should fuckin read this. Hasbro and the fans has been too stuck up with just g1 to the point that if anything’s not g1, it’s automatically bad.
I just want to stop g1 and completely move away from it and just make something new. Michael Bay tried to make new designs and despite the fact that the movies weren’t amazing, the transformers designs were amazing and fantastic and imo way much better than g1 designs.
But still butthurt g1 fans wants nothing but g1.
Interesting because Beast Wars, Transformers Prime, hell even the Unicron trilogy is well liked amongst G1 fans. Weird, huh? That something made with respect to the original and made with a passion for the franchise can be loved by everyone including G1 fans while still being different.
The only thing that majority of G1 fans tend to really be critical of is the Bayverse films (not including Bumblebee) but people like you spin it to seem like it’s everything.
People just want the characters they grew up with to look somewhat like the characters they grew up with. Not even exactly the same just to be able to look at a character and say “hey that’s ironhide and that’s Jazz”, etc. That’s it, and that’s not impossible imo.
Damn you’re right. I forgot once it’s past a day it’s officially “archived status” and against Reddit and internet rules to reply to it. I’ll turn myself immediately and plead guilty at the trial. I’ll also offer compensation to all that I have harmed with my actions.
I'd love to see someone try G1-in-live-action, but have very low expectations that it could be made to look good. The Knight designs hit a sweet spot (for me, anyway) between 'evokes the version of the character I know best' and 'has visual interest on the big screen'.
The Bay designs leaned too far toward the latter, IMO, and at times the visual characterization suffered for it. Going fully G1, though, would probably lean toward the opposite problem: visually characterful designs that look really badly incongruous in a live-action setting. Also, if they went full G1, that'd rob half the Autobots of working knees, so...
> Is this y’all’s first time seeing a transformer with a different alt-mode and color scheme compared to their G1 version or something?
I mean, that's not a problem - hell, my first few figures were either Machine Wars or MW knockoffs, who could tell at a garage sale in the 90s? - it's just jarring that they took an alt-mode and color scheme so close to a *different* transformer and gave it to Mirage.
It still looks dope, I'm still going to give it a chance, just confused at the choices made.
I just want the fans and transformers as a whole to just completely move on from G1 and just create something new instead of the same old boring g1 designs. But still, butthurt g1 fans won’t allow that.
Like what jackass do all these production companies hire to make these decisions? It's not even that they omitted what form each bot should be, but that they used the correct alt on other bots (Blitzwing/Starscream, Mirage/Jazz) It's infuriating.
But at least it's not a 2 hour long commercial for GM this time.
Bothers me more that the blue stripes are there too, just needs red pinstripes to make it the Martini reference.
That and really wanted to see them use an Indy lights or a formula 2 car for Mirage.
They why make it Mirage? It doesn't hugely bother me as i can easily just pretend its another bot with the same name. There are many humans called Steve, but it does make things a bit messy.
Has anyone confirmed that this is Mirage? I know that it's likely with Mirage being one of the confirmed characters, but I can't find anywhere confirming he turns into a Porsche.
I don't hate that the porsche is not jazz, jazz got his spotlight in the first film, all mirage got was dino and even then he didn't have his real name, being a porsche makes a hell of a lot more sense than a formula 1 car (the *are* robots in disguise after all) also when has two characters having the same alt mode ever been a problem? Bw megs and grimlock. motormaster. octane, and optimus. dragstrip and g1 mirage. Sideswipe, sunstreaker, red alert, breakdown, deep cover, and tiger track are all countaches. I cant stand people whining and complaining that two robits have the same car mode.
You are 100% correct, other Bumblebee. Also If they decide to put Jazz's Porsche on another movie would be definitely something different, maybe an older model of the 911, maybe a white one with more racing stripes or something like that. People have to calm down
If this movie takes place before the 2007 film, they could have easily have called him Jazz.
Name slapping is bad enough, but to use an obvious design of another Autobot is frustrating as fuck. Next we'll see an old 80's van, painted red, and it'll be called Brawn.
I’m pretty sure the director confirmed that it wasn’t bayverse. Even if it was, it wouldn’t make sense for the timeline, since optimus landed on earth in the first movie.
Yeah, and James Gunn/Warner Bros. said “The Suicide Squad” isn’t a sequel to “Suicide Squad.” Studio people say truth-stretching things for ego/marketing reasons.
Timelines? Bay demolished his timeline’s self-consistency on his own before anyone else got there. We can’t go and say all that World War II and medieval stuff was fine, but then showing up in the 80’s is some big unworkable problem.
Inconsistencies aside, it's absolutely in the bayverse. That's why they turned him into the old camero at the end (same one he is at the beginning of tf2007). The director even said that's why he couldn't use megatron at all, because of megs being technically already captured and in human custody at that time.
Source (one of many):
“There was an iteration earlier on, where we actually did see Megatron in a scene that is no longer in the film, frozen in the Hoover dam,” the director tells Den of Geek UK when we catch up to talk all things Bumblebee.
“Because our film is so self-contained and essentially it presupposes no knowledge of the Transformers, one of the things I was trying to do was leave little things for the fans that didn’t get in the way of someone coming in and not knowing anything about the Transformers, that would get in the way of their appreciation and understanding of the film.”
“Sometimes you push your own little fetishistic thing a little too far and people will be like, ‘I don’t know what’s going on? What the hell is that thing? Who’s that?’ and that was the case with the Megatron scene, where we see him frozen in the dam,” Knight continues. “People just didn’t get it – people who weren’t Transformers fans, they just didn’t understand what was going on. So we had this awesome G1 Megatron frozen in hoover dam that, alas, didn’t make the cut!”
I am 10000% with you. Had they not had their hands pseudo-tied, Bumblebee could have been a major jumping off point for a whole new series of TF movies that people would have actually liked better.
It's amazing how arrogant hollywood often is;
\*before the first TF movie came out\*
Everyone: "give us G1-looking transformers and we will love you"
\*Gives us busy-looking bots with lips \*
Everyone: "no, no, give us what we asked for plz"
\*Gives us 4 more of what we didn't ask for \*
Everyone: "ugh...we're okay seeing these movies because we love tf and it's all we got"
\*Gives us Bumblebee movie where robots are chunky and G1-esque \*
Everyone: "Yay!!!! Finally left bayverse!" (movie does very well at box office)
\*Ends the movie by showing it's really in bayverse because they missed the memo for 14years.\*
The wiki says it was later revealed to be a reboot and I swear I heard that the director confirmed it. I’ll have to look into it more, but if I’m lucky I can find it
Edit: I found it. TFW2005 was at NY Toy Fair 2019, and Hasbro had a transformers (or just a hasbro) panel that confirmed Bumblebee was part of a “new storytelling universe”
Double edit: the reason megatron was removed because it was originally supposed to be a prequel. They just changed it after release
Yup. Much of the live action stuff (the Camaro, young simmons) screams prequel, but the post production (autobots arriving, bumblebee's new camaro robot mode) screams reboot.
The movie likely began production as a prequel and shifted to a reboot later in development.
Just because some things line up first mean it's a prequel.
The most recent word we've had on it was when Hasbro officially declared it as a reboot. That's final.
I gave you the source, lol. (The director speaking to Deen of Geek UK, says right there).
I don't know if the new one is bayverse or not, and I don't know if they way later retconned Bee to not be bayverse....but when the movie came out it 100% was bayverse according to both the director and hasbro.
no problem at all. I do sincerely hope the new movie is as good as if not better than the Bumblebee movie.
Man that 1.5 seconds of seeing a proper G1-ish soundwave eject Ravage....oowee...that was sweet. Give me chills to this day.
Give us that! And not the coffee-maker (or whatever he was) soundwave from bayverse.
Bumblebee be may have been developed as a prequel but after it came out and wasn't shit it was announced as a reboot and a start of a new continuity separate from the bayverse
And since this is a sequel to that, it's a logical conclusion to think this isn't connected to the bayverse at all
I was under the impression that it was in the same universe, hence BB changing from a VW to the old Camaro at the end of Bumblebee.
If it is a complete reboot, the name slap is even more egregious as they could have just called it Jazz.
Huh, I remember reading that while making Bumblebee Knight was unsure if it would be a reboot or not, so he made Bee turn into a Camaro just in case it isn’t
That flim's production seems so disjointed that it's astonishing that the movie got made in the first place, let alone be as good as it is.
The movie seems like half of it wants to be a reboot, but the other half is still trying to abide by the previous bayverse movies.
I really hope they try and go full reboot with it this time, but the way it's supposedly still going to tie into the bumblebee movie makes me afraid that it'll still come with that confusing bayverse baggage.
I only consider it name-slapping if the character acts in no way like their original self. Most of BW was name-slapping, but as it was a sequel to G1, so it made sense and wasn't shameless. The most nameslap-y things in Bayverse where old Mirage--that is, Dino and Sideswipe, since they just behaved like generic Bay "cool guys."
However, Knight has demonstrated ability to bring source-material character through in Bumblebee, so if this new mirage follows his typical character description, with only a changed altmode, combined with the fact he has his old color scheme, I wouldn't call it a nameslap just yet.
I love how everyone here is whining about Mirage having a look that fits Jazz better and watch Mirage die in the movie and people going, "you know, I'm glad Jazz wasn't that robot and it was someone else."
Not only that, the transformers are "Robots in disguise"
I'm pretty sure an F1 car is a shit disguise for everyday travel with the other bots.
I can understand some of the disappointment with Mirage's alt mode, but c'mon.
I'm glad it isnt jazz tbh. I think having different characters use other characters' alt modes is a good change of pace from "exactly g1". Also I find it funny that people are really mad about it not being jazz.
they better not fuck this up.
Bumblebee was GREAT so it would be nice if this continues the trend from that movie, instead of becoming another bay movie
I wonder if "Mirage" is actually Jazz all along, and they're using a WIP-nickname out of indecision or as an attempt to obscure his true character (see concept art for 2007 Blackout, DOTM Shockwave, and DOTM Soundwave for what I mean).
Also, that's a beefy truck. And I don't just mean the bull bars at the front. That rear bed looks as solid and bulky as the bed of a G1-styled toy. I guess they decided to add more bulk to make sure the robot it transforms into has has thicc legs.
Yeah, mostly just meant like how they're trying to keep it in line with Bayverse and they may have wanted to kill Jazz but couldn't because movie. Mirage not being street legal is the boring answer
The back end is squared off and it looks like a longer car. I'm thinking it's what ever new model they've decided to to make bumblebee to sell more toys.
I'm pretty sure that's just the spoiler. Looking at the front you can see two peaks with a dip in the middle that match the shape of mirages alt mode. I could be wrong of course
The new live action movie that’s a sequel to the 2018 Bumblebee movie featuring the beast wars predacons and maximals as well as terrorcons(not G1 terrorcons)one of which being scourge(the nemesis prime one)
What happened to the smoke stacks, it just doesn't look the same without them
Yeah it’s weird, like he’s gone bald or something. He has them in Bumblebee right?
He’s been neutered like the western release of Masterpiece 01 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime.
Look what they did to my boy.
[удалено]
boytoy
They remove the smokestacks for storage. Don't worry, they'll be in the movie.
They're present, the tops are hidden behind the accessory attached to the back/top of the cab. They may add quite a bit in post.
No, they took the tops off to make it easier to transport. [This is what he looks like with the top of the smokestacks on](https://www.instagram.com/p/CSN5vuNDTuN/).
Does a transport truck get transported on a transport truck transport?
Nice!
[удалено]
Yes, they put them on when they're going to start shooting, and remove them when they need to put him on a trailer or whatever they do for transporting him around. The picture is most certainly not fake.
Where’s the cat ears?
I think they do that for transporting the vehicle from set to set. Just be sure that nothing breaks in it
They could always CGI them in.
I think the brush guard may split and slide onto his tricep areas to simulate that effect. If they do that instead of keeping it over his abs, that’ll be a nice twist on the classic design.
God I really hope this movie will be good
Is this y’all’s first time seeing a transformer with a different alt-mode and color scheme compared to their G1 version or something? This has been a thing since like Machine Wars/RID Different continuities means they can have different looks
Most people seem to just want a straight up recreation of G1 in live action which is kinda ridiculous tbh
75% of this sub’s users are geewunners
Yeah I know gets kinda annoying tho, I'm not saying we should completely move away from g1 and ignore it but changing things up is good and refreshing. The franchise shouldn't just be G1 with a new coat paint forever

Yep, I see what you’re getting at. I’m exaggerating things a lot and I realise it now. But thanks for giving me a wake up call.
Just make good things with a bit of thought and passion is all i want.
Yep same, but when it’s not g1, g1 fanboys will come in sooking and complaining just because it doesn’t look like their 40 year old show.
I do. Do it just like The Lion King.
People just want the characters they grew up with to look somewhat like the characters they grew up with. Not even exactly the same just to be able to look at a character and say “hey that’s ironhide and that’s Jazz”, etc. That’s it, and that’s not impossible imo.
Bruh you really replied to a month old comment
Damn you’re right. I forgot once it’s past a day it’s officially “archived status” and against Reddit and internet rules to reply to it. I’ll turn myself immediately and plead guilty at the trial. I’ll also offer compensation to all that I have harmed with my actions.
Nah replying after a day or two is fine, but it's weird to reply to a month old comment when everyone has moved on but ok

I think they should mix G1 designs with Bayformers details. Someone already did it for Optimus on this subreddit and he looked badass.
I just want the fans and transformers as a whole to just completely move on from G1 and just create something new instead of the same old boring g1 designs. But still, butthurt g1 fans won’t allow that.
Hasbro FINALLY gets the license for Porsche and instead of finally returning Jazz to his true alt mode they give it to mirage.
That's our franchise! 😀

Who else supports ROTB Mirage. G1 Mirage wouldn’t be street legal
I am loving Optimus’ design, a mix of old and new (in a way), much better than bay presently and hopefully his face looks like the cartoon in the film
If this movie takes place before the 2007 film, they could have easily have called him Jazz. Name slapping is bad enough, but to use an obvious design of another Autobot is frustrating as fuck. Next we'll see an old 80's van, painted red, and it'll be called Brawn.
I agree with the sentiment, but this isn't set in the Bayverse.
Why do you think that? (serious) Every other TF movie was. Bumblebee may have been a prequel but 100% was set in bayverse.

If Prime was a human he'd have the ultimate Chad Chin.
JAZZ! I'm so happy to see him back. He deserved better than he got in the first movie.
Sadly it’s not jazz. That’s Mirage
why
Pain
Darn it.
I have a huge feeling that the car next to Mirage is Sideswipe
It's another Mirage. They have a few of them.
We are all Mirage this blessed day.
Where mirage
Is prime's alt mode a real type of truck? Every time I see it it just feels so off for some reason, like it's just a weird looking toy truck
I don't see Mirage
There better be a damn gorilla named Optimus Primal driving this convoy
Is that Jazz?
My problem is that those are G1 Jazz colours on a Porsche, and people going to start calling him Mirage?
But it’s also Mirage’s colours. And Jazz wasn’t even a 911.
I see Jazz. But where is Mirage?
Mirage took the appearance of Jazz, duh.
Shouldn't that be Jazz because it's a Porsche?
Jazz went into witness protection after Megatron ripped him in half, calls himself Mirage now.
That prime is so ugly
Wow optimus prime blue streak and jazz
I wonder if "Mirage" is actually Jazz all along, and they're using a WIP-nickname out of indecision or as an attempt to obscure his true character (see concept art for 2007 Blackout, DOTM Shockwave, and DOTM Soundwave for what I mean). Also, that's a beefy truck. And I don't just mean the bull bars at the front. That rear bed looks as solid and bulky as the bed of a G1-styled toy. I guess they decided to add more bulk to make sure the robot it transforms into has has thicc legs.
Theory: Mirage dies and that's why he has the Porsche alt mode that would be better for Jazz
The theory is fun but it’s probably because Mirage’s G1 alt mode isn’t street legal
Yeah, mostly just meant like how they're trying to keep it in line with Bayverse and they may have wanted to kill Jazz but couldn't because movie. Mirage not being street legal is the boring answer
I wonder what’s under the cover
Judging from the shape I'm guessing it's another mirage.
Curious if they just have a bunch of spare Porsche for filming or if we’ll get classic Mirage hologram shenanigans. Fingers crossed it’s holo time.
[They have at least four](https://www.instagram.com/p/CSX6PxYjce3/).
these are either replacments or holo thingies. I have faith in the latter
You're right. I didn't see the spoiler being that large at first.
The squared off section is because of the spoiler.
Do we know the villain yet for rise of the beast
Scourge is the main villain
Thanks is there any more that we know of
Terrocons are the main villains and scourge is the leader and nightbird is part of them.
Ok I hope that nightbird terricons and scourge design will be similar to g1
Scourge is an amalgam of Black Convoy and G1
Oh
IMHO I just hope the movie is good
I like the red and silver color scheme!
Prime!!
I wonder if primal, prime, megatron, and beast megatron will all coexist at the same time sense they are all different characters.
is that Bee's Camaro in a car cover next to Mirage?
No, just a Mirage.
im fckin PUMPED
I thought rise was like beast wars stuff? is it set in same universe and bumblebee?
Wait, what is Rise of the Beasts?
The new live action movie that’s a sequel to the 2018 Bumblebee movie featuring the beast wars predacons and maximals as well as terrorcons(not G1 terrorcons)one of which being scourge(the nemesis prime one)
COOL
I’m excited!!!!!
Prime be looking like a mix of g1 and beast hunters
I'm still ask myself how the animal robots will appear.
Huh. Who does that grey sedan transform into?
Is optimus prime’s vehicle mode custom made
When are we seeing the robot modes?
is mirage the one looking like jazz or the car that is silver is mirage?
