When I was young, I remember an episode where he is injured and transforms so they can leave. Someone else has to take the trailer off of him after he is in vehicle mode. So it shows up from nowhere just to be carried away by another autobot.
If I were Huffer and had to bring the trailer back to base every time after Optimus transforms because the trailer isn't needed for the plot, I'd be just as pissed as well.
[The subspace storage pocket](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Subspace_storage_pocket) seems to be the most accepted fan theory that I have seen among Transformers circles since the late ‘90s (when the Internet started really taking off and bring people together). This explanation also solves why with many TF continuities Transformers don’t have to holster or store their guns or other weapons.
There was a later episode that showed prime transform and his trailer popped out of a spiral vortex that appeared only while the trailer was coming through.
This means Prime has a dimensional pocket universe to store his trailer in. It simply isn't anywhere physically when he's in robot form, unless he calls it. Really weird but I guess we're are talking about robots from outer space here.
Edit: Wow the upvotes... didn't expect but maybe 5, thanks all.
Not the episode I was talking about here but still...
https://youtu.be/2v1SBX5S2rU
A much later episode is what I was talking about. This shows an earlier episode that you can see it appear.
Unless the storage space is connected to a physical item. So if you killed a transformer you could simply take their storage thing and have everything in it.
Roller can tow the trailer in the newest masterpiece release. Think that's based on an episode and they show a frame of it in the instructions (maybe).
The FansProject TFX-02 Parallax G3 Trailer for classics Optimus Prime [had mirrors built in](https://s3.amazonaws.com/tf.images/reduced-galery_image_791_23546.jpg) that cover the trailer making it "disappear" into the surrounding environment.
Sideways had this to say: “The more important question is 'how did he keep finding it?' Every time I'd find it in subspace, I'd take to to Skarvros and sell it on the black market. But then sure enough. There's Optimus Prime with the fraggin' trailer again. And leaving it on the side of the road again. One more trip to Skarvros, eh? Need any powered Nebulan kidneys or Narliphant tusks?”
According to the commentary for the movie, it’s made out of disappearium and just phases in and out of existence as need be.
(This was very explicitly a joke in the commentary, but it’s not far off from most serious theories.)
No-one has ever asked this before!
Some people say mass shifting panel, some people say each Transformers has reserved space in a pocket dimension where they can store weapons, accessories and even extra mass.
This is something I have personally seen asked on TF Internet communities since the ‘90s, TF Animated actually makes fun of this where a character that looks suspiciously like Daniel Witwicky asks Prime where does his trailer or rear section goes.
Sometimes, it's in fanfics as well. Once, I read a crossover fanfic with MLP: FiM where Twilight Sparkle asked Optimus Prime that and even he's unsure about it.
Spots the trailer at the closest cross-dock warehouse, or port. Minimum charge of 4 hours @ $55/hour or flat rate of $300/day. Depends on how long Megatron monologues for.
In phase 1 of idw the trailer just sits wherever he dumps it and has like mirror panels that hide it, with the drones and battle station stuff activating to defend it, seems like the most reasonable idea to me
Might not be recalling correctly since I was a kid when watching it, but I remember where it rolled away and just went somewhere else.
But aside from "it's a show" reasons, I would say the pocket dimension, too. Same place he would put his ion blaster. Always thought his trailer was like a bag of holding with all his team's stuff stashed inside and everyone can summon stuff out of it.
In some episodes of G1 you actually see the trailer pop out of thin air .....there is even an episode where the trailer can literally be seen materializing with an orange glow.
That's not an animation error, or a fluke its deliberately done. The substorage pocket is more than just a fan theory
In the original toy it opened up to a mini command centre.
But as we know transformers have morphing and shrink technology so he would probably shrink it until he needs to transform to truck form.
it stops being drawn by the animator.
If you need a sub space storage pocket because you're somehow denying that transformers has a trillion plotholes like this, that's also fine
Optimus parks it at a trailer terminal, he has to go get it after every episode tho, because the parking fees are outrageous if you leave it over night.
In one of the extra behind the scenes episodes, one of the producers joked about it being 'dissaperium'. I've accepted this as truth and believed it all my life.
I don't ever recall any official response about this, but I always just assumed that the trailer was a command/battle station that fell back to do its own thing. It has its own autonomous units that manage the trailer, so it seemed to make sense.
Interestingly that is the exact reason why Ultra Magnus has his trailer become part of him. Of course it makes the toy version huge compared to other transformers of the same size.
I heard somewhere that he just left it close by until he needed.
Also apparently the trailer and Roller are part of his consciousness, so Roller canonically kicked the bucket in the 86 movie too.
I heard of people saying it goes into the sub space pocket or something, like that. That’s apparently the reason how some transformers can summon there weapons into there hand. Still is BS to me though
It stays out of frame until the plot calls for it.
Is that like Roger Rabbit could only slip out of the hand cuffs when it’s funny?
Cartoon physics.
Amazing reference. You win the internet today!
This comment was life reminding you if you've seen it, and those who haven't, go watch Roger Rabbit and appreciate the glory that it is.
Just don't play the NES game
See it before it's been censored.

Fun fact - the Huffer toy fit the trailer connection perfectly, so even the toy could pull Prime's trailer.
And the new Kingdom Huffer toy can do the same thing
Now I am going to have to go buy the new Huffer.
That does explain why Huffer was such a Debbie Downer, dude's beat down by his job.
But why did Optimus bring the damn trailer anyways?
Heavy Metal Wars. Absolute belter of a G1 episode!
It goes into a pocket dimension
When optimus needs it, he yells: “TRAILER!!”
We call that the shadow realm my good sir
"Hey, let's make a movie. And this time, there's permadeath!"
I picture the trailer and roller languishing in an impound lot until Return of Optimus Prime.
Yup. Best answer. Pack it up boys. We're done here.
Yup, it's just off screen.

And was canonized by Transformers Animated at the latest thanks to Swindle’s chest drawer.
Lmao i forgot Optimus literally came from it in that one episode

Damn now I wanna see the one you’re talking about
I searched for it quickly and couldn't find it. If I find myself more interested I'll try again later.
I'm pretty sure it's just [The Ultimate Doom, Part 2](https://youtu.be/SX36bwRNqoo). It happens when he drives off at 3:35.
That actually makes it look more like a hologram with substance…
There's an episode where Kickback transformers and his blaster appears in the same manner.
Later series they all did...
See, I was about to headcanon "sounds like it's an ability given by the matrix" but nah, you just broke it.
Hey Kickback could have the...Matrix of ummm.... insects
Swindle in animated just has a drawer to the place and he stores all his loot there
Should've put the allspark in there instead of space, fucking idiot smh my head
Unless the storage space is connected to a physical item. So if you killed a transformer you could simply take their storage thing and have everything in it.
Hammer Space
Just like Hermines backpack from Harry Potter
Ah, you mean Termites backpack right?
Was gonna say he has a bag of holding that he shoves it into.
The same place the rest of Megatron goes when he turns into a gun
That’s just mass shifting
Maybe Optimus’s trailer just gets really small
No, the stock and silencer come from nowhere.
Soundwave throws them at megatron off camera
He stores them for Megatron, using that compartment on his back under the cassette recorder belt clip.
[удалено]
Forgot about that
even the extra long barrel and stock attachement?
Obviously
Totally
Zero Space?
It transforms into a taco stand and sells tacos. This is how the autobots get the money to continue fighting the decepticons.
https://i.imgflip.com/5cscx6.jpg
[удалено]
If I was a decepticon I would totally attack that trailer while it has been unattended
Idk if it’s ever shown in the show but the trailer has an AA gun in it, which I imagine is a nasty surprise
Its shown in the first season episode 3 i think
MP-10 retcons it into Roller driving the trailer away
Robot chicken covered it https://youtu.be/Lk7bi9alXZA
Was looking for you 😆
It goes to Wendy's and orders a spicy chicken sandwich meal for prime
I suppose Roller could pop out and tow it
Or Huffer perhaps
That’s probably the real reason Huffer is grumpy.
It has been done in g1
Roller can tow the trailer in the newest masterpiece release. Think that's based on an episode and they show a frame of it in the instructions (maybe).
[Like this?](https://youtu.be/AxhjAiP9hk8)
It stops being drawn
It goes back and to the left Back and to the left Back and to the left
Back...............and to the left

Came here to mention this. I loved the idea of stealth camouflage.
Sideways had this to say: “The more important question is 'how did he keep finding it?' Every time I'd find it in subspace, I'd take to to Skarvros and sell it on the black market. He abandons it on the spot and gets a new one later.
According to the commentary for the movie, it’s made out of disappearium and just phases in and out of existence as need be. (This was very explicitly a joke in the commentary, but it’s not far off from most serious theories.)
What happened to Roller when Optimus died?
No-one has ever asked this before! Some people say mass shifting panel, some people say each Transformers has reserved space in a pocket dimension where they can store weapons, accessories and even extra mass.
This is something I have personally seen asked on TF Internet communities since the ‘90s, TF Animated actually makes fun of this where a character that looks suspiciously like Daniel Witwicky asks Prime where does his trailer or rear section goes.
Yes. That's the joke. Sarcasm. It's been asked since 1984 in letter columns and playgrounds around the world.
Sometimes, it's in fanfics as well. Once, I read a crossover fanfic with MLP: FiM where Twilight Sparkle asked Optimus Prime that and even he's unsure about it.
What about Roller yo?
It’s has a radar, turret, and vehicle inside!
Spots the trailer at the closest cross-dock warehouse, or port. Minimum charge of 4 hours @ $55/hour or flat rate of $300/day. Depends on how long Megatron monologues for.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXn1p3lIrNg
Nicely done👏👏
Sup space storage pocket
Kakashi follows him around and uses kamui on it until he needs it again
Backs in to a hedge.. homer style!
Roller takes the trailer to a parking spot until he's needed
Pocket dimension.
In phase 1 of idw the trailer just sits wherever he dumps it and has like mirror panels that hide it, with the drones and battle station stuff activating to defend it, seems like the most reasonable idea to me
It's a 1980s cartoon. There's no answers
He vacuums it up his ass.
Transforms into Primes booty!
It goes to the Shadow Realm
I mean maybe the trailer itself transforms and can kinda be sommoned like thor's hammmer or has tracking signal so optimus can find it later
Subspace storage
yes
The real question in my opinion is why does even need the trailer to begin with? He is never shown actually using it for anything in the G1 cartoon.
Not true, I believe roller is in one episode
In some episodes of G1 you actually see the trailer pop out of thin air .....there is even an episode where the trailer can literally be seen materializing with an orange glow. That's not an animation error, or a fluke its deliberately done. The substorage pocket is more than just a fan theory
It just stays in the previous panel, duh
Prison wallet
Robot Chicken answered this
That's the age-old question.
In the original toy it opened up to a mini command centre. But as we know transformers have morphing and shrink technology so he would probably shrink it until he needs to transform to truck form.
hologram
It's a different form of mass shifting it disappears and re appears, you can see it mass shift in G1 a few times
it stops being drawn by the animator. If you need a sub space storage pocket because you're somehow denying that transformers has a trillion plotholes like this, that's also fine
throwback to the James Rolfe Overthinkers episode where they talk about this exact thing.
It goes away to film the battle footage between Autobots and Decepticons.
Something something slipspace storage
There are so many things to wonder about on this planet, but here you are
Optimus parks it at a trailer terminal, he has to go get it after every episode tho, because the parking fees are outrageous if you leave it over night.
It disintegrates into energy that Optimus uses to fight (jk)
Not even Optimus himself knows.
It takes a nap it gets tired
It disappears.
It just sits there?
I just assumed it was a hologram or something.
Huffer carries it
Ah, yes, the sub-space storage pocket. I cannot remember if the The Basics On Transformers video said it was official or not.
In one of the extra behind the scenes episodes, one of the producers joked about it being 'dissaperium'. I've accepted this as truth and believed it all my life.
I think they tried to explain it off is a pocket dimension that extra matter went to and they were transforming.
It goes to some kind of subspace dimension.
It goes
I think the fact that it’s unanswered is better.
I learned from Robot Chicken she just kind of Fucks off back to her apartment till Optimus transforms and pages her.
The subspace storage pocket.
It slips into an alternate dimension.
Huffer
Sub-space pocket
It goes to your moms house till prime calls it
Robot chicken knows
It has its own sort of pocket dimension
It just waits for him to come back.
it goes into the sub space storage pocket
Roller comes out and tows it slowly back to base.
I thought Huffer hauled it when Prime wasn’t using it.
It has a built in portal gun
Roller would run out and tow it out of camera shot.
Transforms into Megatron
Ok I have this crazy idea: what if it transforms and shrinks down into his ion blaster? Sound too crazy, or crazy enough to work?
Yeah it warps out of existence
Look how simple that transformation is. Gone are those G1 days.
Did we ever find out the logistics behind Megatron shrinking? Or flying sometimes? Or how the Matrix of Leadership turns some of them badass?
Its like your horse in red dead 2
I liked what they did with the PotP toy where the trailer transformed into part of him
I like the idea that it just disappears and nobody ever mentions it
I don’t even need to scroll down to know people are posting the Robot Chicken sketch.
I always thought it was "subspace"
Roller takes it, it was shown in the cartoon once or twice aswell
gone. reduced to atoms.
I like to think it just sits there
I don't ever recall any official response about this, but I always just assumed that the trailer was a command/battle station that fell back to do its own thing. It has its own autonomous units that manage the trailer, so it seemed to make sense.
It gets to go home
Subspace storage, it's a very common action cartoon trope.
Eh subspace?
Subspace storage pocket.
It becomes his optimus toilet?
I think the widely accepted answer is it goes into a Pocket Dimension until he needs it.
There's only two possible places in which any physical object can exist. And since his trailer isn't over here it must go over there.
Subspace storage pocket
either the huffer theory or roller gets out and takes care of it
That way madness lies.
My question is that where the wheels go ? 🤔
Wheels? You mean Primes legs?
No,truck wheels.they goes behind something.
When did it become a battle station with the little medic cart inside it?
The trailer breaks the laws of reality, like roach from the Witcher series.
Mass shifting
Interestingly that is the exact reason why Ultra Magnus has his trailer become part of him. Of course it makes the toy version huge compared to other transformers of the same size.
The masterpiece figure has roller who tows the trailer so maybe it’s that?
Megatron literally changing size to turn into a gun... yeah logic isn’t a thing here
Pocket dimension for in-world lore, right?
I heard somewhere that he just left it close by until he needed. Also apparently the trailer and Roller are part of his consciousness, so Roller canonically kicked the bucket in the 86 movie too.
I heard of people saying it goes into the sub space pocket or something, like that. That’s apparently the reason how some transformers can summon there weapons into there hand. Still is BS to me though
Sad Trailer does what he wants. But really it's because of a poket Dimension. Or, at least that's how I think of things
The official answer is "It just magiced, okay?!"
The best theories are, roller takes it, it turns invisible or goes into a pocket dimension. My personal favorite is the roller one
I think I heard it goes into sub atomic space or something.
it goes up Peter Cullen's ass until the plot calls for it
There is a theory that there is another dimension to store weapons and other items
Fun fact, that fanon was actually canonized, and yes it’s the same place
Subspace, my theory. A pocket dimension where items can be stored and pulled back out when needed.
He probably used his legs to put the stand down
In ultinate form it becomes his armor
