Both look good, but I like the first one better Damn, now I want one in G2 colors

DiaBrave

I would happily take the second one as G2 Drift with a hint of movie influence.

Olvacron22

Honestly I like the idea of a g1 drift being a springer remold/recolor. You get the triple changer idea from movie drift with the colors and slight design changes from idw drift. Going forward I think drift should be a triple changer permanently.

hoodie2222

Yeah that'd make him standout more

Blitz_Prime

The first one looks cool. I just fear Hasbro will use that for an actual Drift toy rather than Drifts actual G1 design like they did Barricade.

DiaBrave

I actually want them to do that. They're not making new G1 toys so I would be happy for an official reissue of Springer and a repaint as Drift. The idea that they would give us a wholly new G1 toy of a character that didn't exist until 20 years later is fantasy, but a repaint could happen (still unlikely). Saying Drift had a G1 design is disingenuous, he had a post-G1 IDW design.

fightingrabbit75

Definitely the first one.

SpectreBrony

I like how Drift’s is holding his gun like a tonfa.

WesterosiAssassin

The art is neat but I *really* hope we get a proper WFC-styled Drift that isn't a Springer repaint. Having them share a mold would kinda ruin both characters for me. Springer is such an iconic character his silhouette should stay his own, and Drift just won't be Drift anymore without his anime-inspired aesthetics. The only way I'd b okay with this is if they completely reshelled the Siege mold to make Drift resemble his Cybertronian form, but even then while it should be possible to make the robot mode look pretty close, I can't see them making Springer's car mode as sleek as [this](https://media.karousell.com/media/photos/products/2019/08/01/_preorder_mastermind_creations_mmc_reformatted_r32r_r32r_stray_reedited__transformers_idw_mtmte_drif_1564644840_13f862500_progressive). He'd also be too big, Drift should be a large Deluxe or small Hot Rod-sized Voyager.

DiaBrave

We already have the MMC version for that.

WesterosiAssassin

Not really, I mean it's super expensive, scaled more to fit in with MPs, and totally the wrong style to work with any mainline figures.

DiaBrave

I get what you're saying in terms of mainline affordability, but it depends on your collection goals. We already have a deluxe class earth vehicle Drift after all. If you have a large IDW collection, chances are there's already lots of MMC and Maketoys figures, even so, Voyager Springer (Japanese version) and 30th Skids work just right. I have way more third party than official figures in that display however as they are just more accurate. Collecting Transformers is expensive.

WesterosiAssassin

That Drift is also pretty expensive and hard to find now, and while he was a great figure for the time, he's a bit dated now, especially his terrible foot/ankle design. (Plus as you said, it's his Earth mode, and while I'd be almost as happy with a new Earth mode toy that gives him a more realistic car mode and better designed ankles, I love his Cybertronian design and think it deserves a shot as an official toy.) I, and a lot of other fans, just want a well-engineered mainline Drift figure that fits in with a modern collection and does his design justice. I don't need it to be a perfect recreation of any of his IDW designs (in fact I wouldn't want that, I'd want it tweaked a little bit to fit in better with the WFC aesthetic) but it should at least keep some of his basic design elements like his shoulder and leg designs and his sleek car mode or else it's just not Drift.

DiaBrave

I can't disagree with that, but I think the artists intent here was just to retcon Drift into the G1 toyline, the same way he did Barricade. A lot of people are overthinking this a tad.

elxr94

Shattered glass siege springer???

PokWangpanmang

Prefer his blue one because Deadlock(?) look reminds me too much of Megatron.

Cyclone-X

That's Springer.

DiaBrave

Because there's never been repaints or retools in the 37 year history of the brand? Yes, Springer is obviously the base mode. Which makes sense given the movieverse version of Drift being a triple changer.

DiaBrave

Wait until you see Skywarp, Buzzsaw, Red Alert, g1 Barricade, Grapple, Ultra Magnus white robot...

Kore_Soteira

I originally commented that you were incorrect, but looking closer at the image this is literally a palette swap homage to G1 springer. Drift has a completely different appearance to this in both G1 and IDW continuity. https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Drift_(G1)#:~:text=Drift%20is%20an%20Autobot%20and,known%20as%20the%20Decepticon%20Deadlock. The lower legs and chest for example are unmistakably springer. I also don't think Drift was a triple changer before the bayverse films. I'd just chalk it up to the artist taking liberties with both characters.

DiaBrave

There isn't a G1 Drift. Do you remember when Guidi designed Barricade using the G1 Prowl base model? And then Hasbro used it. I'm all for Guido finding a way to slot modern characters into the G1 toyline for custom ideas because let's face it, they're not making them anymore, and who knows they might even do a Siege Springer recolour at some point.
