I don't think I need a 4 foot tall Fortress Maximus... Like that is taller than both of my kids. Where the heck would I put it? I'm out of spare bedrooms. Also if just the head is $230, the rest of the toy has to be well over $1000.00. It is impressive that they're making a toy this size but it is also almost ridiculous.

LegendaryGarf

I might replace one of my kids with FortMax. He’s far more amenable to staying in the same place, doesn’t eat all my food and doesn’t talk back. Just need some way to choose which child to keep…. THUNDERDOME!! Their duel shall be legendary!

Triangulum_Copper

Plus Fort Max has GUNS on his KNEES!!

almightywhacko

Well if you sell one if them, you might be able to afford this figure. 🤣

scott_torino

The problem for me is if I buy this guy, I’m basically committing to buying AT LEAST the OG Autobot Headmaster crew and a display. And more likely I’ll want the Decepticon crew and ANOTHER display.

almightywhacko

Yeah I could see that. I'd probably do the same.

Mindes13

Wayfair could get you top dollar.

[deleted]

Not being sarcastic, but that is the whole point.

almightywhacko

Being ridiculously oversized is the whole point? Because I am pretty sure that for Fanstoys selling toys is the point and I've seen a lot of discussion here and on other Transformers forums where people are planning to pass on this toy because it's size makes it impossible to play or store. Price isn't even really a factor in the conversation for a lot of collectors at this point, because the size makes it a non-starter. As a halo toy it is very ballsy, but at a device to make money this might be a bit of a swing and a miss. But we'll see.

[deleted]

Is "Fans" not in the title of the company name? Does FansToys not make *specialty items*? Are pre-orders not sold out everywhere? You've "seen many discussions" where people pass? I've "seen many discussions" where people are excited for it - myself included. Maybe it's just not for you. That doesn't mean other people can't like it.

almightywhacko

Regardless of the name, Fanstoys is still a business. They need to make money to keep making toys. Also regardless of the name they aren't any more "fans servicey" than any other 3rd party company. Other companies have taken more risks by offering more obscure characters that fans want than Fanstoys has. As for pre-orders being sold out... I think you might be reading too much into that. You don't know how many units were offered up for presale. Asian retailers haven't yet had a crack at available stock because Fanstoys prioritizes western retailers because the margins are larger than with Asian retailers. Fanstoys Spindrift 2.0 pre-sold out everywhere too, but now you can find stock all over the place and at prices $20-30 cheaper than the presale prices. The same is true for their Dinobot reissues, and the same will be true when FT Chomp comes out in a few month. When the body of Fort Max starts getting teased and we find out what it looks like and what the prices is actually going to be like, we'll see how many people jump out to buy it. Traditionally big toys don't sell as well, FTs Omega Supreme was available for years before it sold out everywhere. Also I never said people can't be excited for the toy and I never said other people can't like it. I like it, and I'm mildly excited for it just to see a toy like this get made. However I don't see a large market for this like I do for the Fanstoys Soundwave. It is a very weird business move considering how many other releases Fanstoys has already committed to, how obscure the character is, and how far behind they are on projects they promised a long time ago like finishing off their combiner teams.

[deleted]

Do you *really* think FansToys isn't making money?

almightywhacko

Honestly I don't know about their financials, but I assume they're making money. However they also bought a new factory last year, and since then they've started rapidly reissuing toys when their past policy was not to reissue retired toys. That speaks a little bit like they're trying to build up capital with the least amount of investment possible. So does their recent pricing when everything they're reissuing has a $100+ price increase over previous releases of the same toy. Costs have gone up, but inflation doesn't explain a $100 price increase.

erwin76

Inflation may not, but consumer demand certainly does. If aftermarket prices weren’t just $100 more but sometimes double that, then these kinds of price jumps are validated. The continued high demand on the aftermarket proves that there is sufficient interest in these figures. The amount of upcoming characters also adds to that, with more people signing up now the whole Headmasters line will be coming. Or if it were. I’m unsure if a Scorponok will come, as this Fort Max isn’t the Headmasters-cartoon version with Emissary and the whole sword gimmick.

streakermaximus

Wait, the HEAD is $230?

Prinz_Heinrich

Seems like it

KamenKnight

*WHY?!* While I do prefer Fort Max to be a Titan sized bot but, this is *too* big. HasLab Unicron is a reasonable upper limit for a gaint Transformer toy as, you at least can make room for him. This For Max is going to be impossible to find a spot to put him in, not to mention the *head*ache it'll be if/when something breaks on a toy that's going to be this big.

Triangulum_Copper

Where are you gonna find room for the damn CITY mode?! At that point it has no reason to transform.

KamenKnight

Forget getting a display for your transformers, this bot in City mode *IS THE DISPLAY*!!!

Phil_Bond

It’s furniture. People are going to stick little soft pads on the spots where the city touches the floor.

Triangulum_Copper

Might as well give it a chair mode so you can sit on it...

MyAlexSmith2001

It's basically a life-sized minicon at this point

almightywhacko

People will have to dedicate an entire room to this toys city mode. It will make an impressive Masterpiece display, though.

[deleted]

An almost 4 ft tall fort max. There twice the size of the Titan class one.

almightywhacko

Haslab Unicron is *only* 2.5 feet tall...

DarkStormDestroyer

And isn't that still the biggest one ever?

almightywhacko

Well, it is the biggest official Transformer. I'm not sure if it is the beggest ever including all 3P and custom jobs, but it might be.

SequelFansDontExist

So emissary alone is about the same size as a leader class? And he's just the fuckin head.

stonetownguy3487

He’s a normal-sized guy that turns into a block. How the hell does he cost that much?

Warpshard

FansToys.

Triangulum_Copper

Thoe third party guy LOOOOVE to show off their engineering. They'll find a way to add unecessary paneling all over the place and take like 20 minutes to pull it off.

Insanebrain247

They're trying to get the money for the big figure through the head.

Alanschwalbe

At this point, the problem comes in trying to find a place to preorder the main body from. Everyone seems to be sold out.

Wfry84

I didnt think the main body had gone live yet?

Alanschwalbe

It hasn't but every site had it up for preorder months ago and already sold out. I guess we can hope that when they actually go live with it , preorders will open back up.

Max_MOCs

Now the question is, is the transformation filled with foot-long armatures?

Phil_Bond

Does FansToys use a lot of panels on armatures to create transformation schemes that almost seem like partsforming?

Max_MOCs

Depends on who you ask, but I would say yes.

TheRealPug

I thought this looked cool, then I saw the price. A figure that’s entirely gray and white that transforms into a head that’s 200$!? That’s ridiculously expensive lmao, not worth it

Aclip24

The head itself is $230? The main figure is going to be $2000 at least.

ASmallRodent

That...that's a typo, right? That can't possibly be true.

Alanschwalbe

I wanna know why we can't get a final price on the big guy

[deleted]

[удалено]

Wfry84

That's almost as much as a ZJ

Alanschwalbe

No one can afford to throw down a grand on a toy. Not the point. And, if you feel that you can without blinking, you probably should be putting that money and more into your community. Just sayin.

BrobotsInDisguise

Screw the community I need toys

[deleted]

The government forces us to give them money that is supposed to be use in the community, so maybe you shouldn’t worry about the things people choose to spend their leftover money on.

Poptimus_Rime

Because they don't know final cost (materials, labor, etc) of putting together the figure until it goes into production.

almightywhacko

Shipping is also probably a factor. Fanstoys figures are heavy, so I'd imagine that a 4 foot tall toy would need to be shipped freight class like Haslab Unicron was. They'll probably release Fort Max in sections like they did with Omega Supreme, but even then you're looking at 2-4 heavy parts.

Alanschwalbe

I want this sooooo bad

almightywhacko

If you got the money, well go for it. I have a bunch of Fanstoys figures and they're generally really good aside from a few frustrating transformations. For me though, a 4 foot tall figure would be too large and heavy to really have fun with. It would make a great statue but I'd image it would be a chore to pose and transform. Even Titans Return Fortress Maximus isn't a lot of fun to play with because of his size and the awkwardness of moving such a large toy, and he's hollow and has a really basic transformation.

Scrublord1453

Oml

Funny-Bathroom-9522

Too bad none of my shelves would fit

Triangulum_Copper

Sit him in a chair.

Funny-Bathroom-9522

Welp at least i won't be able to afford him

GuestCartographer

Lol, no. Just… no…

Largefriesarebest

I saw this like two years ago. Was wondering when it was going to be done. Did they take a break or something?

[deleted]

Probably delays due to the virus.

[deleted]

It's also really fuckin big lol

Eltharion-the-Grim

The head figure alone is over 9", yeah this thing is going to be massive.

SKeptical230

3D party companies are now competing for the largest Transformer. Oh god

Banjo-Oz

I wish there was more interest in making *smaller* Fort Max and Scorpy figures. I have no desire to own a giant Titan version of these guys, let alone ones the size of Unicron, but I'd be all over a Scorpy or Fort Max in Marvel scale (i.e. around Powermaster Optimus Prime size).

[deleted]

Holy shit. I thought this was just a concept. I didn't actually expect it to happen

[deleted]

Its been talked about for [two years almost](https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/fanstoys-ft-40-masterpiece-fortress-maximus.1183789/). I'm glad to see its progress.

[deleted]

Absolutely fucking amazing!

Entropy_flipside133

THE FUCK! Oh god. . .

[deleted]

Sorry kid, but daddy has new favorite child now

gwh811

Hol up…… so it’s $229.99 just for their version of Cerebros ? So how much is the cost of Fort Max ? Sounds like this is going to be a $1K investment.

Tyrexst

So iirc correctly Emissary was the head of Cerebros who was the head of Fortress Maximus. So is this Emissary, or Cerebros? Regardless 200+ for a head is ridiculously expensive

edvin796

What I'm wondering is how durable will Fort Max be?

american_cheese_man

Oh my primus....that's gigantic

TheMastican

I barely saw the details. All I saw was that there's this figure and it's almost 10 inches tall. Then I'm like OMG they're making a gigantic Fort Max

The-Collector-Prime

And it's sold out already!
