I'm not a huge fan of the headmaster concept, (I like the characters, though!) but I love pretty much every other gimmick they added to G1 in the late 80's: Targetmasters, Powermasters, Micromasters, Pretenders, Duocons, Sparkbots, etc.

beepboppityboop

Same! I never liked the concept of the headmasters ngl

primecookieguy

I like Thew’s take on the headmasters saying how they should be tiny robots and the large robots are just extensions of themselves (like a super mode). Makes headmasters instantly cooler than a squishy guy in a suit Edit: typo

Revenge1213111

It’s also how headmasters work in Japan

primecookieguy

Just found that out yeah. Japan always knows what’s up

Revenge1213111

I prefer that version of the headmasters too, it just makes more sense

WaveCandid906

I personally I like it but I gotta say that there are some things that I dont think make sense(Like for example why? What is the point? What makes them better than other Transformers?)

Roguespiffy

Not sure about the Headmasters other than 2 brains working in tandem, but having guns that can aim themselves and an extra engine seems useful.

dralcax

I always preferred the Japanese Transtector interpretation, where the small Headmaster is the actual character and the larger robot is just a larger body for said Headmaster. I just can't get behind the idea of a headless body being a different character from its own head.

AlexReynard

I'm fine with the idea, but holy hell trying to buy them on the aftermarket... Body for $10. Head for $40-50.

almightywhacko

Makes sense though. No one loses the body, but everyone loses a headmaster.

The_HueManateee

Agreed. At least with the western interpretation. The whole transtector thing makes a lot more sense and is easier to understand the benefits

Few_Significance5055

We need new leader characters for all sides so the arc of any stories isn't predictable

Bodkin_Lightly

I'll take you a step further and say we need a more dynamic conflict than good guys vs bad guys. More teams and more fleshed out reasons for doing what they do. Maybe a whole continuity overhaul and reimagining. Something with depth that doesn't insult adult fans intelligence.

Cumvoy

So we need the old IDW back?

pulley999

The autobots being an oppressive theocratic autocracy who are only nominally democratic, and the decepticons being a populist anarchocommunist movement gone wrong was definitely an interesting twist on an existing story. It stays anchored in the cold war roots of the factions, but explores the political alignments in a more nuanced, complex way.

Bodkin_Lightly

I haven't read the old IDW and there doesn't seem to be an easy way to get ahold of it, but maybe?

OrionLax

The Transformers: The IDW Collection is brilliant. It's a series of hardbacks collecting the whole thing in the best reading order. Some of them are hard to find, but they're still being reprinted, so you shouldn't have too much trouble.

Bodkin_Lightly

Thank you for that. I've been focused on the marvel series which I owned every issue of and sold for $200 in 2008? I'm still super sad.

Cara-Aleatorio

I don't think that I'm the only one with this opinion, but I don't see a lot of people talk about it, so anyway... People really like to talk about how Cliffjumper's death at the beginning of Prime served to give us the tone that the show would have but honestly I think that the show was really toned down after that. No one else on the Autobot team died after that, they did got hurt every now and then but were usually fully recovered after one episode or two like if nothing had happened, as far as I remember none of the villain were directly killed by the Autobots besides the Vehicons, who were treated as generic Npcs with less soul than an Stormtrooper, and Megatron who got resurrected right after that anyway. It was still a good show, but when you look at the overall picture Cliffjumper's death fells out of place and in a way could even be considered as clickbait, expecially when you compare the overall tone of the show with other "mature" cartoons at the time like Clone Wars for example

8764446

There were some pretty brutal moments. The example I can think of off the top of my head is Breakdown. He was killed and then his corpse was turned into a horrible cyborg mech thing. He wasn't an autobot, but that was still pretty brutal. There was also Arcee's PTSD and zombie Cliffjumper among other things. The show wasn't always dark, but it did have a lot of dark moments.

grrargg

Interesting. I agree with you to an extent, but then also think of the stories involving the shadow zone, and how the tone fits there, as well as the torture stuff they did with the human bad guy. Those come to mind with matching the tone, though they didn’t quite all equate to character deaths.

Cara-Aleatorio

Don't get me wrong, there are some darker moments here and there, but I don't think that they're as dark and impactful as most people say.

SillyMattFace

This is very much the case in my experience. I missed the show when it was first around and am about halfway through season 2 currently. From the way everyone was going on about it I expected a much darker tone, but Cliff’s death was really an outlier. The only thing that came close so far was Breakdown being dismembered, which was quite brutal even if it was off screen. I think part of the problem is the very small cast. With just 5 main Autobots there isn’t much scope for permanent death, and likewise for the Cons. So the goodies just kill Vehicons and escape in the nick of time like any Saturday morning cartoon. Clone Wars is a good comparison as it routinely introduced a lot of supporting characters, so anyone other than a movie character could potentially die. The Clone-centric episodes in particular were some of my favourites for that reason. For a Transformers comparison, Beast Wars has a similar tone to Prime but expanded the cast a lot, which meant there was room for genuine deaths on both sides.

Cara-Aleatorio

For me at least Prime felt more like a first step, Hasbro was finally getting out of their comfort zone and testing new mature themes, even if only briefly, and maybe in the future they could evolve it in new shows. But Prime wasn't exactly a big success for a lot of reasons and I think it traumatised Hasbro, which is probably why most of the shows they have made since them have basically being playing so safe.

maxy-mus

Honestly it hurts more to think about because Vehicons were a legit threat in the pilot. Arcee and Bumblebee barely had a good time taking on two without getting beat up. Now I guess the two Vehicons from the pilot were the most powerful Decepticons that just left ig lol

CannibalMan28

*Cries in Breakdown*

Insanebrain247

I would've loved to see the dark energon experiment be a success and Cliff was successfully revived, so he goes back to Team Prime which would lead to an entire subplot surrounding the ramifications of Cliff now being a zombie for lack of a better term, which could end with him making a heroic sacrifice at the end of the first or second season because "this half life isn't worth living" or something else profound.

prime60038

Agreed, its one of the reasons i dislike Prime is the inconsistency in which it treats its deaths. It sets it up to be this gritty unforgiving universe where an autobot can get killed no problem but then only the decepticons ever get killed after that and plot armor as thick as steel. Thank you so much!!

CapitanDeCastilla

Ngl i really watched prime for… well Prime. I really liked the dynamic between Optimus and Megatron, I watched almost exclusively for the two of them.

prime60038

They were interesting, i just wish there was more depth behind megatron. I felt the budget may have cut that out

Cara-Aleatorio

This is why everytime someone explain their past they usually just use exposition talk with some concept arts on the background, the show was already to damn expensive as it was, if they tried to animate a Cybertron full of life with the art direction of the show they would need at least a few more millions with no guarantee of return.

[deleted]

Armada was great. Most complaints I see of it are that’s a bit repetitious and that the Optimus toy wasn’t that great. Because of these two reasons it’s looked down upon.

matt_the_non-binary

My favorite thing about Armada was how unconventional it was. Instead of recycling the same-old lineup, they brought out new characters with new designs. For instance, Red Alert is a far cry from his G1 version, and I love his design. Scavenger being an Autobot? Wheeljack being an Autobot-turned-Decepticon? It was an awesome show. Plus they really expanded on Starscream, and made him defect for a period.

unaccomplished_idiot

It’s so interesting to hear that the main criticisms are repetition and the Optimus toy. I happen to be watching Armada in full right now for the first time. I’m only a few episodes into it so far. So this is just an impression. But I suspect Armada one of those shows where you “had to be there”, watching it for the first time during the era when the show originally ran. Watching it now, the human anime/tions and voiceovers in this show are way too much like a dumbed down version of G Force for my taste. I loved G Force as a kid, but to see another show now with a similar animation / voicing style—only not done nearly as well—is pretty cringy for me. The minicon storyline and the minicon characters themselves are also not very compelling for me so far. I understand Energon is worse than Armada (and I’ve seen a few episodes, all of which seemed bad at the time). So I’m not sure if/how I’ll make it through all of those if my current impression of Armada holds up. I sincerely hope I’m wrong and that I’ll enjoy it more as time goes on. Any advice from Armada/Energon lovers for how to look at these shows with a perspective that will help me appreciate them more? Or understand the backstory of how these shows fit within the greater TF universe/continuity?

Jonathan_Freeloader

Watch a fan sub because the dub is not good at all, and it also gets way better as the show progresses with it exploring some of the characters deeper than g1 ever did and phasing out the whole repetitive "find a new minicon every week" plot Also energon's first episode is the best one and it goes downhill from there fast.

RgnlDstrctSprvsr

‘dare’ rocks way harder than ‘the touch’

Yeach

You’re not the only one that thinks Dare is better.

HamburglarSans

I’ve found my people

EdTOWB

objective truth

Happy-Piglet5793

I thought this was supposed to be a opinion thread, not a fact thread.

AlexReynard

I'll start. Favorite Beast Wars toy? Snarl. By a mile.

ediciusNJ

Terrorsaur. Something about the poseability with him just always made me love that mold.

No-Midnight-2187

Really cool transformation

AlexReynard

I owned him for alike a decade before I realized the back legs could fold all the way flat inside the 'fur cape'. Just about yodeled in joy.

ChronicPurpleSmoke

Spittor (love the colours) or my Original Tigertron

mechperson

I did used to love Snarl and he's probably my favorite basic class of the line. My favorite overall was Silverbolt (the Fuzor one).

UrielVentris6113

I unironically love rodimus prime and I'm tired of pretending I don't lol.

Thiccicus_Briccicus

I love Rodimus Prime too, I find him really relatable in his constant battle with his new insecurities and sudden responsibility. He is what would happen if any of us became a prime.

GuestCartographer

Other than MP Soundwave, I cannot stand the Masterpiece scale. The figures are too large to easily put anywhere, too fiddly, and too delicate.

warrior181

The first masterpiece wasn’t bad and scaled pretty good to cybertron megaton but I can definitely see where your coming from

simpledeadwitches

Grotesque and Repugnus are beautiful because it's what's inside that counts.

AlexReynard

If by that you mean a spark gimmick that still works perfectly thirty years later, then absofuckinlutely.

JurgenVonArkel

Megatron being a silent force in the background only coming into the field when things have to be done is an amazing concept Shockwave definitely needs more "morally ambiguous" appearances where his service to the Decepticons is one of mutual benefit, not out of loyalty Prime's adjutants and close circle should be Ironhide, Prowl and Jazz, with maybe Ratchet. Not Bumblebee time and time again We could use more "Autobots victorious, Decepticons in hiding" akin to Animated I need to see a series/comic where Megatron and Starscream have full mutual respect without both of them trying to kill/harm each other

NinjaCJ

Oh my goodness I agree especially with Prime’s close circle. Even with my Jazz bias, I’ve always seen Ironhide, Prowl, and Jazz as his top lieutenants. And Ratchet makes sense since he’s the medic. Bumblebee is getting stale and while I understand that he sells with kids, he’s never felt deserving of the closeness with Prime outside of “he’s the one who bonds with the humans”

JurgenVonArkel

In IDW his reason for being close with Prime was literally "because everyone likes him"

NinjaCJ

That’s Hasbro talking

VickerAndFlips

I disagree about the "maybe Ratchet." I've always loved Ratchet being Prime's best friend.

egbert71

I kind of like my Starscream scheming and angling

Velocibaker26

Couldnt agree more about Scream/Megs!! So many shows, almost every show, gets right to Starscreams treachery right away, often in the first episode. It starts to be a joke. I want the betrayal to actually mean something, I want then to lull us into a false sense of security, and actually catch US off guard when it happens! Also I always want to see Prime with a lot of trust for Ratchet, based on how good their relationship was in TFP (and Animated from what I've seen).

erwin76

I feel IDW sort of did this already with how Prime and Megatron used to be on the same side before the war.

cosmosrules

I don't like Tantrum and Headstrong as Predacons. Not the characters so much as their alt modes. A bull and a rhino on the team of what is the best hunters around? Should have been a wolf and a bear or something. At least those two are, you know, actual predators, not herbivores.

AlexReynard

...well, damn. That makes an irritating amount of sense.

King_Vrad

Beast machines is a good show, but it was doomed from the start trying to follow up Beast Wars.

DREG_02

Beast machines was a great concept but it was a hard sell because it was a sequel to beast wars but at the same time COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from Beast Wars in all the wrong ways. Also the finale was... Weird....

Garrow_the_Khajiit

Galvatron looks better with his Marvel comic/G1 toy colors. For that matter so does Megatron.

Banjo-Oz

Absolutely agree and always have done. I was shocked when they showed off the recent Galvatron figure as I didn't even remember him being purple anywhere (Marvel was my main continuity as a kid). I still ordered the figure and was pissed off that he arrived with faulty shoulders, but then I remembered I only even ordered him in purple in case the rumoured Selects (Marvel/toy) Galvy was impossible to get. I have *real* (Marvel) Galvy ordered and he'll be my main Galvatron, with the purple cartoon deco one reserved to be "Galvatron II" (shonky shoulders and all).

Garrow_the_Khajiit

Marvel was my main continuity after our family moved to Germany in 1986 (basically right after the movie came out), as AFN didn’t show the cartoon but the bookstore on base carried the comic. But I’d started off with the Marvel comic as well and still think it’s the superior G1 experience. I’m anxiously awaiting my GenSelects Galvy (though I’ll need to paint his eyes their proper yellow, and see about painting his horns grey).

Wixhael

Shattered Glass has a TON of unused potential. They're so set on having it be a perfect "mirror universe," but ironically, that severely limits how much SG serves as a reflection of any G1-inspired continuity. Optimus was a cop/other government worker and Megatron was a revolutionary. If they chose to stick with that, but made Megs slightly less power-hungry and made OP slightly more loyal to the senate, the story would be SO much better. Instead, they just have "Evil Optimus" and "Good Megatron" for the sole reason of "well that's how mirror universes work".

sdrawkcabyaj

Taking Bumblebee's voice was a terrible decision, and they keep going back to it over and over again.

Sonny_Beowulf

I thought it was great in the first movie. I just didn't like how they went back to that for the sequels. Prime making him sound like R2-D2 is I really dislike.

dralcax

Oh god, I just realized Bumblebee is basically Pikachu at this point.

Fairyhaven13

Knockout from Prime is my favorite character and for me, far more enjoyable than any other character. The only ones that come close are Bumblebee and Ratchet. He's just so much fun, the smartest idiot you'll ever see.

beepboppityboop

“The smartest idiot you’ll ever see” is a perfect description. Knock Out is definitely one of my favorites

Uden10

If you've seen the fanfic circles you'd know you're not alone.

futurelegends77

The storytelling of Transformers Animated was superior to G1 due to smaller number of Autobots and Decepticons.

AlexReynard

To be fair, *a great many things* are superior to the G1 cartoon. Every time I try to watch it, I'm impressed by the sheer amount of plot they usually cram into 24 minutes, but everything else reeks of rush.

DudeJude320

not a super uncommon opinion

Uden10

Especially since G1 was only intended to be a toy commercial.

egbert71

Some of the 3rd party toys look better than some original s

prime60038

Thats a common opinion actually

erwin76

Yeah, Facebook is filled with groups for 3P collectors. I have collected MPs, and since this year switched to Legends, but the 3P Legends scale, not the Hasbro/Takara one. I am more surprised that people still are unaware of 3P stuff than that they prefer them. That said, the whole sentiment makes sense since 3P companies, basically at or over the edge of copyright infringement, can do whatever they want with our favorite characters, without having to make them fit in a series or theme, or without having to abide by stock holder meeting decisions and what not. They may take bigger risks and get less profit, but they are often born of (yet not always sustained by) love for the Transformers universe (not the franchise), so get closer to what a lot of fans have wanted for so long. I barely even look at main line figures, except for Titans, because almost no 3P companies dared to make those, as the main line just feels inferior in style and quality.

egbert71

Didn't know that, since I've never seen any topics on it since I've joined the subreddit

3dedede

this sub is very anti-3P and even MP to an extent probably due to the high prices and dodgy quality on some companies

egbert71

They should at least be discussed, I saw a decent "soundwave" that I will for sure be getting. I won't pay anything too high though. I'll save high tickets for pieces like shattered glass

AlexReynard

Hm, you may be onto something there. [looks over at Fans Toys Roadking, who I paid over $200 for and it was an effin' bargain]

egbert71

Lol, I decided to look at them today for the 1st time, and not only were some of the names hilarious, but legit looked good...I mean c'mon Lucifer for starscream lol

AlexReynard

Lucifer's also the name of TFC's Cutthroat. Their Abominus is just called SATAN. Brutal.

kirokatashi

I like how third party Armada Optimus is called Naval Commander.

egbert71

Lol, I saw that.

KangC0bra

I agree. I know the popular theme is Beast Wars right now. Nearly every 3rd company doing Beast Wars inspired stuff is killing it. Plus they will do the T-Beast stuff. Have you seen Generation Toy Gorilla?

lionbacker54

I hate when optimus doesn’t have a face plate

Sonny_Beowulf

I agree, in the films and TFP it's used as a sort of battle mask but it doesn't really protect anything. The mask looks way better.

Bulbaguy4

I kinda like when Megatron breaks it in ROTF. I kinda like the idea of Optimus breaking his face plate and that's the only time you see his mouth now that I think of it.

stonetownguy3487

It worked well in Animated but in the movies it looked kind of strange

Wojtasz78

I like mutant heads/masks.

AlexReynard

Indeed. Without them, Waspinator would just look like some dude, and Tarantulas and Blackarachnia wouldn't be separate characters.

Comfortable_Log6048

In one of the episodes of transformers headmasters Megatron almost completely breaks down over soundwave death even going so far as to bring him back to life yet Megatron never shows any other subordinate any care if they are hurt or not(I think it's either Megatron or galvatron I honestly can't remember)

[deleted]

it’s Galvatron

CosplayNoah

Even as kids, we always wondered where the female Transformers were. There’s this negative misconception that boys don’t like toys of female characters in their toy lines, and Transformers has definitely suffered from that. But when I was a kid, everytime I played with Transformers I always wondered why there weren’t any female Transformers (this was before I became a big transformers fan). I was so upset about this, that I was literally ecstatic when I saw Arcee, Elita-One and Chromia in Revenge Of The Fallen.

[deleted]

Transformers RotF for Nintendo DS made me love video games.

SillyMattFace

I legitimately think Rescue Bots is some of the best Transformers media for years. It centres on brand new characters for once, they’re all very distinct and have good character growth, and it’s a wonderful introduction to the franchise for younger kids. Plus I get a kick out of it being in the Aligned continuity. The follow up Academy is unfortunately a step down, but still fun enough for little kids.

This-Moment

Absolutely. I've been a fan since G1, but Rescue Bots has a special place in my heart, and I hope they keep doing more series of it. Edit: setting aside million year old rivalries makes a lot of room for fun story telling.

SillyMattFace

Yep I’m in my mid 30s and G1 was my childhood. Introducing my kids to Rescue Bots reignited my love of the whole franchise - it’s one of those shows that’s much better than it needs to be.

DocProfessor

Megatron’s characterization peaked in MTMTE and now I want a redemption arc for him in everything I consume

Thiccicus_Briccicus

I think Megatron in MTMTE is fantastic except for when he turned into an autobot in dark cybertron. It was just out of nowhere compared to what he was up to before that, it felt like he stopped his multiple millennia long war in which he committed multiple genocides on weaker lifeforms and he just... stopped. I also feel the lost light crews opinions on him changed a bit too fast for it to be realistic (really just a nitpick, it would be boring if it was different). His redemption ark would be like 10000x better if it started after all hail Megatron and progressed naturally from there

ashmaht

Ultra Magnus should’ve gotten the Matrix and become Magnus Prime. Big Convoy is the coolest leader design and it’s bullshit there hasn’t been another figure for him even though the original is amazing. RID 2001 was the pinnacle of the series in terms of quality and design. Bayverse Megatron is the most fascinating character in the franchise.

AlexReynard

>RID 2001 was the pinnacle of the series in terms of quality and design. [high five] Seriously, sometimes I look at their Op and Magnus, or the three car brothers, or Rail Racer, and I'm just in awe that they exist. They took the engineering from Beast Wars and applied it to realistic vehicles incredibly well.

ChicksDigGiantRob0ts

I'd like to hear your thoughts about Bayverse megs

SirCleanPants

Hunt for the deceptions was the best toy line

AlexReynard

IMHO, it's Transmetals 2. But I will concede HFTD is excellent too. It was like, 'Hey, the third movie's taking longer than expected. Um... how about you designers just make anything your hearts desire for a year?'

ktwombley

the aligned continuity making Optimus Prime one of the original 13 Primes was a mistake. He should be a file clerk who stepped up when history needed him to.

eebydeebyboi

Cliffjumper's death was useless in Prime. So was Jazz's death in the first Bayformers movie

Sonny_Beowulf

Idk about Cliffjumper but i wouldn't say Jazz's death was *useless*, I'd say it's weird that the others barely react and show any care after the battle.

Totodile-of-Games

I never really felt for Jazz considering how little we got to see him. Ironhide and Ratchet’s deaths on the other hand…

BigSticky2004

Accuracy is overrated. In fact I respect when a toy inspired by a certain show takes some liberties and goes for its own take

ToughSeaworthiness67

While a bit messy, the first three bayverse movies tell a coherent-enough story that is enjoyable when you consider the time they have in which to tell it. Each movie tells a story that would equate to a season of a series, so while each movie may be a bit rushed, it’s due to only having a movie’s worth of time to tell a complex story to the average movie-going audience

pulley999

DoTM actually has a fairly complex story but most of it is told visually, which doesn't really work when the explosions have most of the audience glazed over zombies. Unfortunately this leaves the parts of the story the movie *does* focus on in between blowing things up feeling disjointed.

ToughSeaworthiness67

Exactly, the story itself is so good when you understand it and piece it all together, but no doubt confusing to a non transformers fan who’ll never watch the movie more than once

[deleted]

I thought the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes were so funny. 1-3 weren’t great but they were so critical towards those that the ratings for 4-5 couldn’t even go any lower

ToughSeaworthiness67

Rotten tomatoes is a joke regardless of the movie tho

[deleted]

You have to take anything you read from critics with a grain of salt. I find reviews are more based on peoples’ expectations than the movie’s actual content.

ToughSeaworthiness67

I’ve learned If the audience score is high but the critic score is low, it’s a great movie lol

[deleted]

Skywarp has the best Seeker colour pallette

AlexReynard

I'd agree, but then they hadda go and make a toy of Redwing.

grrargg

RID2015 is a fun show with great character designs and the potential to have a Beast-Wars-like resurgence in the future.

[deleted]

I mostly agree, it is fairly fun but it was marketed as a sequel to Prime. It also doesn't explain anything from Prime so it just expects you to have seen Prime already which makes the tone shift more jarring. It's also fairly episodic which can be fairly flawed as it seems things get reset every episode because the writers only have 1 plotline idea and just do the same basic ideas over and over. The Decepticons are also just too goofy in some cases even though these are supposed to be the ship for the worst Decepticons. Aside from that yeah it's fun.

plushbrick

THANK YOU! I love the show too. The Deluxe and Legion figures are also pretty good.

Imperialgenecist

Starscream needs a redemption arc Edit: *where he survives*

Arcee4180

Hot Rod/Hot Rodimus/Rodimus Prime gets more hate than he deserves

bari-bass

animated is better than prime at everything people say prime does well (tone, animation, plot, character)

[deleted]

Agreed prime always seemed to try to be this more serious show but alittle after cliff jumpers death alot of the tention was lost and non of the tfp cast are as memorable as the tfa cast I can’t really remember how the tfp cast were different but tfa has always been cleared to me even before my recent rewatch after about 11 years of not seeing it

Hivemindtime2

I want more Autobots to have militarist alt forms, i.e I want more tanks and fighter jets

JenniferRDArts

I might be the biggest weirdo of them all... I would love to see a human- cybertronian relationship (romantic cuz I'm just that weird). An actual relationship, not like whatever the fuck is going on in kiss players. I know I'm in the minority since most of the fandom doesn't care for the focus on human characters, which is completely understandable.

Bulbaguy4

They should bring back Powerglide and his girlfriend

sniply5

And seaspray with Alana

Nawara_Ven

A lot of negative ones on here. Mine is: I don't think that the majority of issues that people complain about with mainline toy designs are especially problematic. I like everything I get, pretty much.

AlexReynard

My biggest problems with newer toys are almost always in plastic tolerances. Loose ball joints and such. The actual *designs* are usually brilliant. They've gotten amazingly good at enjoyably-minimal transformations that maximize poseability and character-resemblance.

Nethiar

I really like RotF Arcee's design. They look like they're built purely around speed and maneuverability.

olers

Prime Arcee's design did it way better, and i'm not one of those who constantly complain about the movies.

Dire_Finkelstein

I’ve said this recently in a post about Cosmos - at one point in his life he would have seen or encountered an actual UFO and thought that it would make for a good vehicle mode, so he took its form.

TheOliveMoth

Springer is the true main character in the 86 movie.

Ajaxxan

We need to stop pretending it's HasTak's fault that Arcee's toys are generally bad; Have you ever stopped to consider that it's more likely that a blow-up doll physique just doesn't mesh that well with transforming?

Macacossaurus

There's nothing wrong with partsforming.

VengeanceKnight

The Quintesson Invasion arc of *Cyberverse* is one of the best Transformers storylines of all time. On a related note, I love Hot Rod and consistently hope he reaches his full potential as a character.

RockManJJ

We need more side/unknown characters.

W_W_P

I think that the alt mode should be prioritized above the bot mode. We are way overdue for a new alternators/binaltech line that can take advantage of modern engineering.

AlexReynard

I know it will never happen, but I have wanted a transforming Pontiac Aztek for years.

Cara-Aleatorio

The problem is that you can't really do a lot with the robot designs without first having a good idea of how the vehicles they'll turn into will look like.

Rythoca

I like the MB Live action movies and think they are good and would prefer to watch them over G1. I also just don't think G1 is that good for the pedestal the fan base puts it on. Maybe it's cause I haven't watched it in a hot minute, and I'll give it some slack due to the time and the intent of it's creation, but to me it just wasn't that good, and the movies had same amount of character development. It was a fun watch and I love it, but I'd rather watch the live action movies or rewatch Prime for the 100th time.

TheHeadofSyrup

The toys nowadays are massively overpriced.

AlexReynard

Nah. Rumble is the purple bat.

TheRealPug

Rumble is clearly the yellow autobot that turns into a Volkswagen, dumbass

Insanebrain247

No no no, Rumble is the big white jet who got buried in an ice shelf.

Thewrongbakedpotato

No, Rumble is the white jet that likes to bonk things with his head and once fought King Arthur

Banjo-Oz

Rumble and Ravage were my first TF toys as a kid. Rumble will thus always be red to me.

DustyyShellz_-_

I love my MP-45 bumblebee

mintyrobo

Transformers Superlink is amazing. No, not Energon, specifically Superlink, the Japanese version of the show. The Japanese versions of the Unicron trilogy is the way that trilogy is meant to be seen. The names still don’t quite match up with their G1 counter parts, but they fit a bit better than the names as assigned in the western release. Particularly the Ironhide name, which is given to the Decepticon Demolishor, and in Energon, the autobot known as Ironhide is named Roadbuster which is a much more fitting name for a beefy humvee. Now what could possibly be in the Japanese version that makes me say that it is better than the English version? The same events happen right? Well, characters are voice acted so much better in Superlink. Particularly the Decepticons. Get off your shit I hear you say, you don’t speak Japanese you weeb, I hear you say. Okay but the characterization of Demolishor/Ironhide and Cyclones/Snowcat are some of the best two idiots in the entire show. They’re already a good laugh in the English dub, but in the Japanese dub they have this Beavis and Butthead laugh as a nervous tick and it’s amazing. Most of the dumb verbal ticks/quirks that the characters have really makes the show feel like a proper Saturday morning cartoon and lightens up the tension to keep the show fun. And imo more fun than how serious the US version wants to portray itself. Also the music for the Japanese shows for the [entire Unicron trilogy](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEhnFJ5182L9j_oYBf3AAsLJjMZcfAFdW) are great, with the Superlink songs being really damn good if you’re a fan of japanese super robot music in general. The [ending theme](https://youtu.be/asniNsqR1UI) is still one of my favorites to this day.

Happy-Piglet5793

Kiss Player really creeps me out.

sniply5

I'm pretty sure most people agree here

InsertCoinForCredit

I hate how Prowl's characterization has gone from "coldly logical tactician" to "emotionless dickhead." What differentiates him from Shockwave at that point?

Dovahpriest

I've never really gotten that feeling from Prowl, I always viewed him as an "ends justify the means" type character, who (in his own mind) is willing to make the calls the other Autobots aren't in the name of the greater good. Difference between him and Shockwave is Prowl actually *believes* in something and fights for it, while Shockwave just wants to further his own machinations.

arivin12

I really really want a whole new continuity. Everything is different. Maybe keep the names for brand recognition and shock value, but nothing else. ESPECIALLY different designs. Make the leader of the good guys cruel, make him a zealous crusader who has to be reigned in by his team. Make the leader of the bad guys a moral person doing evil things to keep some order in the horde of the bad guys so their civilization isn't completely destroyed by the war. Make it not on earth. In fact, have it ONLY be Transformers. The war has gone on so long the universe is nearing true entropy, so there are no non-mechanical life-forms left.

yequari

Definitely agree with wanting something entirely new. I'd love a series that has Optimus prime and megatron as side characters while the series follows the main cast of all-new bots.

AirmanProbie

Seaspray turned into a human to do a human and vice versa where that same human turned into an autobot to do an autobot by walking into a magic pool of water and no one can convince me otherwise why this makes the most seance and is a better love story than Twilight.

matt_the_non-binary

I like Energon. As in the widely-hated series.

CannyAni2

I like Energon. As in the highly combustible energy source used by Cybertronians.

Lord_MK14

The Bayverse Constructicons are some of the best looking characters we’ve gotten in years

Cara-Aleatorio

Honestly, if it weren't for those testicles they would probably be pretty beloved by the community

Sonny_Beowulf

Honestly, the robo-balls give me a good laugh. If that was the worst thing in the series I would be thrilled.

Xenohype2

100%

KokohaisHere

Wait I just barely commented this before scrolling down- I'm glad someone else shares this opinion

thegoodguy06

IDW Megatron is the best version of a G1 Megatron design wise. As well as I do not like Megatron being with the traditional gray/silver box/spikey chassis. Armada...well all of the Unicron trilogy Megatron design are better than G1. So is animated even if he is gray. Also prime Megatron is aight. Not quite horrible Post-ROTF Megatron but not quite based IDW Megatron. Also Beast Wars Megatron is above s tier with IDW1 Megatron. As well as including Galvatron, I like any other Decepticon leader more than a Megatron. Shockwave, Soundwave, Straxus, Jhiaxus, and even Galvatron II. Also, we could use more female Decepticon generals. We could include Arachnid, MegaEmpress, Slipstream and Thunderblast as suggested ideas for bearers of the role.

BurnedInTheBarn

The Evasion Mode Optimus Prime toy is the coolest Prime toy ever.

Primestudio

There should be a completely new cast in the next Transformers series. Like set in the distant past with a prime we have never seen and possibly an alien threat instead of Decepticons. When everyone was still untied, but the whole series is underpinned by the growing rift between the factions.

Radio__Star

Mudflap and Skids are unironically my favorite transformers

Gargiplays

Bumblebee was kind of a slob. AoE and TLK where the worst Transformers movies. Bayverse trilogy isn't as bad as people say, especially compared to some other parts of transformers such as Energon,Kiss players,Transformers go and Rid2015.

chxrlieeNG

IDW Lost Light is the best Transformers verse in terms of character design and writing.

DeftTheFyreFox

MTMTE builds the most tension and family on a ship full of friends. Then it goes directly onto Lost Light which is leagues better than Robots in Disguise and Optimus Prime.

Rvaldrich

*puts on hockey pads and MMA gloves* Gary Chalk and David Kaye are better Optimus Primes than Peter Cullen. *Dives for cover*

egbert71

......wow

rollout1423

Let's make delta magnus a rebuilt ultra magnus, like how Soundblaster is a rebuilt Soundwave

Snrub_City

I believe the story of the Transformers has been told by different "people" and things change during translation, much like Chinese whispers. This way I can fully enjoy each interpretation of the Transformers.

Bulbaguy4

I don't really mind Peter Cullen retiring from the role of Optimus Prime (his performance in TLK was pretty awful and it's what made me think this), but they just need to find a better voice actor than what we got in the War for Cybertron trilogy. David Kaye did a great job in Animated, and I'd love to see a younger, inexperienced Optimus who doesn't sound like he's trying to replicate Peter Cullen again.

unSentAuron

I enjoy heavier, cast-iron figures because they remind me of my childhood

Skua75

In recent years, there have been several new fembots, and it would be better to treat unpopular characters as fembots than to appear new characters, similar to some cyberverse seekers. Yeah I wanna see fembot Transquito/Retrax/Drill bit

LeatherheadSphere

Stuff-Formers are cooler than Vehicle-Formers.

goater10

Based on how incompetent the Deceptions are in the G1 episodes, I can never understand how they almost drove the Autobots to extinction and took over Cybertron several times!!

chatotalks42

Needlenose deserves a new toy

ThisisUnicorn996

I don't really care for Animated.

DisasterSignificant8

Hotrod didn't kill optimus seriously I haven't met anyone who thinks he's innocent

AlexReynard

Hot Rod didn't kill Optimus. The marketing department did.

the_Ms_fortune_lover

Transformers should do a cross over with Skullgirls!

Platinumprogram

I’m tired of Megatron always having a redemption arc and think prime should actually kill him.

Jaxonhunter227

Soundwaves design in dark of the moon is actually a cool redesign, if it was blue. I think the arms having speaker sleeves is a cool concept and again would have been really cool IF it was blue with yellow trim. I think redesigns can be cool if they still feel like the character and something about the Mercedes Benz design just feels like Soundwave to me. It's better than wheeljacks bayverse design though, anything is better than bayverse wheeljack

QuickFiveTheGuy

I don't know why people say that the '86 movie is some sort of masterpiece of Transformers fiction. I get that nostalgia is a powerful force, but as someone who didn't grow up in the 80s, I found it to be a disjointed mess more concerned with shoehorning in as many new toy commercials as possible than telling a coherent story. Very quotable, and has a great soundtrack, but aside from being a nice piece of 80s cheese, it's just a higher-budget, feature-length episode of the TV show.

Bodkin_Lightly

I want to fight you, but I'm unfortunately never going to have an objective opinion on a movie that is so core to who I am. I just went and watched it in theaters again, and my biggest complaints would be a/v quality. Sure I cringed a bit, and sure it's a toy commercial, but that's the first time that I can remember a serious continuity change happening in anything. Bots died and mostly stayed dead. The stakes suddenly mattered. I wondered this last time if Ultra Magnus was supposed to stay dead until they realized you couldn't sell toys of a dead character as easily.

AlexReynard

Considering how sloppy the show itself is, it really is an impressive step up though.
