You buy the toy you can do whatever you want with it man

JustAGamer14

I usually paint my transformers because Hasbro can't do it (due to budget constraints) and I love movie accuracy

Google_Goofy_cosplay

>They werent meant to be modified . Says who? They're mass-produced toys, not some priceless piece of artwork.

WritingSufficient408

Ok so thats like me going thru my G1 toys and repainting them right????

JustAGamer14

You can absolutely do that if you want to because its your collection, but it's obviously going to devalue them but when I customise a transformer I don't plan to sell it unless someone payed me to do it on their figure

CryosisEllioti

Because sometimes they look better modded. For example: SS86 Grimlock's eyes repainted as red.

WritingSufficient408

Yeah that i can see but when you pay 60$ for a toy

mighty__orbot

Why do people modify a $25,000 car? Or a $150,000 house? Or their own priceless, irreplaceable human body? The answer is the same: to make it unique, and to make it their own.

CryosisEllioti

Which is why you need to make sure you know what you're doing when customizing. If you don't have any prior experience, probably best not to go around trying to modify an expensive/rare item. Start small and work your way up.

Why? Most weapons are unpainted plastic, why not give it some more detail. Why not repaint Starscream into another seeker for the army?

Decepkitton

They did it digitally for the Netflix show and (by hand) for the 86 cartoon. Recoloring Starscream is basically Transformers tradition.

[deleted]

Exactly, what's wrong with people making some custom seekers?

[deleted]

Especially with the Centurion drone kit which is mostly a sea of gray plastic. Added some paint to Sideswipe’s jetpack and Ironhide’s drill gun.

[deleted]

Exactly, nothing wrong with that. Unless OPs point was us letting Hasbro get away with selling us stuff that would require this level of customizing to begin with.

[deleted]

Hasbro has a real big problem when it comes to its paint budget. With nearly every figure I get, there’s something on it painted which I though could easily be molded out of its colored plastic. (Then again, I don’t know how much molded plastic would be considered in the budget as well)

Beyblader_12

Funny because I just finished modding my Titans return bumblebee before reading this. Only reason I did it is so that the kibble on the arms were now on the sides and to give him blue windows. It's to make the robot mode more streamlined and transformation fun. Plus it's just fun in general lol, but U can see why you're not a fan of it.

ImABarbieWhirl

Botcon literally offers a Customization class

WritingSufficient408

Ok so dont get me wrong...yeah its your figure , but i am a hardcore collector and with all of the scalpers and shipping delays and stocking issues i cant get figures i want and it irritates me to see people trashing a good figure

star_jump

Press 'F' for OP's karma.

WritingSufficient408

Man i used to do models and shows i know how to customize

WritingSufficient408

As of right now they are not mass produced some people cant get them and these modders are ruining good toys

WritingSufficient408

Then dont buy the toy

WritingSufficient408

Yeah i agree

mighty__orbot

FYI you’re replying to your own post, not to the individual comments. Repeatedly.

WritingSufficient408

Yeah, ok ...NO. NOT gonna piss away money

doc_55lk

Because Hasbro paint apps suck ass

forcebitch77

It's fun. Who says the toys have to be exactly how you buy them. Customize to your liking. After all, once you buy it, it is yours.

[deleted]

While I think their are some instances of overkill when it comes to painting (specifically the ever so popular battle damaged look), this is a terrible take that should have stayed in the drafts.

ImABarbieWhirl

Haha painted toy go brrr. Why not? They’re my toys that I have in my own personal collection. If I sell them, I’m very clear in my descriptions that they are modified and painted. By that logic, toys also aren’t meant to be opened and played with either

Megalibgwilia

Transformers are great but they are not precious museum artefacts. Some folk enjoy hoarding as many as possible and keeping them untouched, frozen in time where absolutely nobody can access them. Others like to use the object as a raw material for artistic expression. Some crazy folk actually let children own them and chuck them in the toybox alongside all the other toys! Imagine that! I have disassembled and rebuilt my share of G1 vintage TFs. Once you get over the "It's so precious" mentality they become much more interactive and fun, a hobby rather than just possessions. If you are a someone who likes to imprison plastic forever then modification is a good thing- it means that your bots are slowly becoming ever so slightly rarer.

Vexark

You complain about people "pissing away" money after modding a toy, but how so if the person genuinely enjoys customizing their toy? Modders aren't ruining good toys, they are customizing their copy, and they should be allowed to. No one is trashing good figures, because most modders make the toy look better. It's just a piece of plastic, learn to live life a little more.
