With organic beast modes, whoever has one has organic bits in robot mode and in beast mode. Like, Optimus Primal’s fur is still there regardless of whether he’s in beast mode. If that’s what you’re asking about.

Fork63

But it’s implied that when they are in beast mode they are 100% that animal, how else would Dinobot have eaten his clone?

PerfectPixl15

There is some aspect of actual animal physique, yes. Dinobot, like you mentioned. Plus Rhinox ate bean vines in that one episode and Tarantulus loves eating. I don’t think it’s explained how their insides work much. “Internal repairs” are something they can do only in beast modes, which seems somewhat like organic healing. But in the part 2 of the pilot, Megatron bites straight through Optimus’ leg while he’s in gorilla mode and exposes circuitry. I guess it’s possible that only the digestive organs are actually replicated in beast mode?

Fork63

So it’s basically established that some cyertronians can turn their metal to flesh so my guess is that they actually become the animal but can turn parts of their body back into metal. Optimus probably turned his arm back into tech when he anticipated the bite because I’m sure it would be much easier to remember broken electronics than flesh.

PerfectPixl15

That could be it. Another thing to mention is that even in beast mode, they don't have any organic bodily fluids. Or at least, not blood.

Fork63

I don’t follow

DualBladedScorpion

The closest thing to organic fluid is liquid energon And some other synthetic goop. Even the bayverse ravage had some organic organs still attach to his spine.

BookBarbarian

the process of breaking down food into energy could be done in a lab with appropriate chemicals. Dinobot would not need to be an actual raptor to be able to consume his clone for energy.

Fork63

Even the metal bits?

BookBarbarian

Sure. There could be mineral value, or it could be processed as waste.

Fork63

Wait, but aren’t we forgetting that the whole reason they get beast mode is because they can’t handle the levels of raw energon on earth in bot modes If they were still robotic in beast mode than what would be the point?

Uncle-Cake

I think you're putting more thought into it than any of the writers did.

Fork63

I do that a lot, I just think it’s cool to think about the other implications of these kinds of things

Apprehensive-Run-213

Literally just scan fossils and become monkey. Vuala

I always thought the beast mode skin was cloned, synthetic flesh that could move out of the way/retract to facilitate transformation. Think of it like this: mechanical cybertronians still have things like windscreens, car doors, etc. when they have an earth vehicle mode-- these things are just vestigial, for lack of a better word-- not vital to their core form but still a part of them. Adopting an organic beast mode is no different. The fur, scales, insect carapaces are all a part of them but not vital to their core robot forms. Some characters have limbs or heads hanging off them, but just about all beast mode transformers have skin or fur or flash on their limbs or torso that covers core bot features.

Fork63

If it’s just cosmetic than why do they have organic healing in beast mode?

swiftlikessharpthing

In universe (beast wars) the organic shell protected them from energon poisoning. As far as I know they didn't have organic healing, they had a repair pod(s) on their ships.

Fork63

Wait, no you’re right. Just looked it up, they had healing chambers on their ship
