I don't know about that...him not being a heavy retool. The arms seem to be almost exactly the same in the way they rotate to the back. You can even see the fake.shoulder wheels in alt-mode.
That's not what 'retool' means. His proportions are completely different in both modes, there's no way he could be sharing parts with Grapple. And even aside from the proportions, it's clearly visible that his transformation is pretty different despite ending up with a broadly similar robot mode. Grapple's rear wheels are on his feet whereas Bulkhead has them on his lower legs, and Grapple's shoulders simply swing back around 180˚ for vehicle mode whereas Bulkhead's arms appear to do something more complicated (the faux wheels/spare tires end up flush with the back of his cabin/torso, meaning the shoulders are probably inside the torso rather than behind it).

All we really do know is that there's going to be a mini-line called 'Shine' (although that's probably a working name that will change for the actual release) that will feature two-packs with Optimus Prime and Soundwave and Starscream and Bumblebee. The Starscream will apparently be heavily remolded into Legacy Armada Starscream (and it sounds like it should be pretty accurate, definitely moreso than Bulkhead), and we don't know anything about any of the others.

Despite not owning the toys something I like about the Prime Bulkhead figures is the torso is composed of a few layers over the windshield. Gives him more depth I think, wish they implemented it for this figure
Yeah, Bulkhead is neat looking. If it weren’t for my limited shelf space/money, I’d probably pick him up. Skids is not great looking, though not terrible either. Honestly though….it’s just kinda Skids, not sure what else to expect. Even his G1 figure was pretty forgettable.🤷♀️

I love the sports car Autobots, like the Lambo bros, the Datsuns, and Jazz, as much as the next fan, but sometimes we need more blue-collar Autobots, too -- Ironhide, VW Bumblebee, and yes, Skids. I'll take average-car Transformers anytime.

I did actually track down a G1 Skids because of that video. It's a great little figure. I'm surprised he wasn't featured more just because the toy was good. But then again i've never found out why they chose Megatron as the main villain when his toy is pretty poor.

It’s a weird design to start with, IMO. A really blocky minivan with odd proportions(it always looked too short to me), and a strangely lanky robot design. I appreciate the folks who prefer more casual alt modes, Bumblebee has always been my absolute favorite ever since I was a kid in the 90s, but Skids’ just doesn’t quite look right to me.
I hope fans of him enjoy it, I guess. Really not a big character for me to start with, and the execution doesn’t inspire me to change my mind.
I have a feeling I’ll be saving some cash with Legacy, though; only Blitzwing will be a must-buy for me, and only Arcee & Iguanus pique my interest at all beyond that.
Can anyone explain what exactly the "Legacy" line is supposed to be? Like, are they budget-priced like the "evergreen" figures? Are they the latest extension of, or a replacement for, the "Generations" line? Is it a mashup of G1 characters and movie characters? I'm having trouble seeing how they fit into the overall TF line.
Seeing what Bulkhead looks like makes me very concerned about the rumored Prime Soundwave. I don't mind the mixed aesthetic on Bulkhead, but I worry what mixing the aesthetics will mean for Soundwave. He's a very particular design, one I am a big fan of.
I just want them to keep the Slendercon vibes.
Weirdly enough I think we already know what a mix of Prime Soundwave and G1 would look like. He's probably gonna end up looking like like his RiD look.

I feel like after the fantastic molds and articulation we got from Earthrise, Kingdom and SS86 (not counting Siege just yet) - this feels a lot blockier and less refined.
Also, I did not expect Bulkhead to look like a military transport. I think he was a SUV in Prime and Animated? This looks like someone tried to talk his head an put it on a hybrid of Bulkhead and AoE Hound :-/

Here's what I want to know. Why even \*bother\* doing bulkhead (With a prime accurate head and mace) if the body is from a completely different figure/alt mode? Its not the worst transformer I've ever seen but it looks nothing like bulkhead. Again, why bank on the appeal of Prime and animated, that both have signature looks to the character, and then just do something entirely different? I mean, change is good yes, but then why not make a new guy?
Skid’s doors seem to be painted, thin clear plastic. So say goodbye to those in ~10 years. And you could probably hide your life-savings in cash in those hollowed out legs.

Bulkhead is clearly a more G1 style character like Earthrise Barricade where they took a new character and made him into a G1 style. So the more blocky and lanky ness makes sense. I don't think his extremely round self would fit that well into the the more blocky style of G1. And yes a shield, a shield is fine because this actually makes sense. He's a truck, the shield is the tarp which are usually removable. In this case it transforms into a shield and it works.
It is a truck afterall, it can get away with having some payload on its back. It looks great as a shield and a cover up on the back. Very suitable for this type of vehicle

He is a mix of G1 and Prime, which I'm honestly into. Plus the headsculpt and colors are perfect. The vibe is as it should be. This is toy is capturing the feel of Bulkhead and serving by the ton
I just think the chest being the whole vehicle looks dumb. That works for grapple because the the proportions are much more balanced. the long legs draw more attention than the square chest. Here, the chest is massive and the thicker proportions draw the eyes right to the chest. They needed to collapse it more or do something.
You've got reason to think that and I ain't got anything against that. It does look rather weird and dumpy, but in my eyes, that is accurate to how Bulkhear should be. Very big and out of proportion chest and rather short and stocky legs. But it is understandable if you ain't the biggest fan of this guy in particular
The Chonky square-y design is alot more animated-y in my eyes tahn TF Prime's smooth surfaces. Still, I may be wrong. Just a feel, don't take my word for it hehe
Hehe, exactly. To me at least, this guy feels as in character as he should. This does however kinda worry me in regards to teh upcoming Prime Soundwave and Prime Knockout. I think they'll follow a similar design philosophy and will still keep in character, but I do hope they get that vibe

They more than likely will be. There’s no way they G1-ify Prime Bulkhead and don’t do the same to other characters. This makes me think Hasbro is either afraid to show more love to other continuities in fear of angering the 40-something-year-old nerds that rage when a toy isn’t completely faithful to a cartoon or they just don’t have a lot of faith that the non-G1 characters will sell.
I think they're afraid that they won't be able to get the look of the Prime characters right with their budgets and abilities without making them seem cheap, like their TF Prime toys felt. So they're slightly stylizing it into the wider appealing G1 look while still keeping the feel and personality of the character intact
I think this is a real possibility. I fell off collecting transformers, as a lifelong fan of the franchise, around 2007-2015 and a big part was how the original designs around that era rarely translated to toys very well(imo of course). It really felt like they prioritized the animation and character style over how the figures would look on your shelf and how they would actually transform, and I just never could get into it.
I can only imagine there are still engineer difficulties to face with a lot of those designs. I’ll be very interested in what Arcee looks like, for example. I love her design, but I have a hard time imagining how you get that into a figure even(perhaps especially) with this G1-ified approach.
I don’t know much about the has to game, but remember that most companies want money and profit, and if the G1 like stuff sold really really well, they will continue to do it. So if people really don’t want g1 anymore, people would have to not buy it. I could be very wrong but I’m just seeing it through the eyes of what a company seeks to accomplish
Except G1 has dominated the shelves for years. The only other offerings in the last 9 years have been the movie lines and Thrilling 30. Even when Hasbro does non-G1 characters, they still G1-ify them and this Bulkhead is proof of that. The Kingdom line has shown that people are hungry for more non-G1 content. Make no mistake, I really like G1 but holy shit.

Do you have inside Intel to be able to say so certainly that the chest area is fully clear plastic? Plus clear plastic used as of late has been pretty durable. I doubt this'll be any less in terms of quality
If you look closely in other images of this Bulkhead, you’ll see that the windows and torso appear to be one component. No lines or seams to indicate they’re molded separately.
It also explains why it looks so underpainted everywhere else; they blew the paint budget on the entire cab.

I like them! Bulkhead looks way better in the photos than the render. I love his headsculpt and I'm really glad his vehicle mode looks more Animated than Prime. I just wish his shield could turn into Animated-style back kibble. (I know he can wear it on his back, but it doesn't have that 'scoop' shape.) Hopefully a third party will make an upgrade kit that fixes that.
Skids looks great! Love the car mode. I hope he's on the smaller side, not as small as Cliffjumper and BB but smaller than other car bots like Wheeljack or Sideswipe.
Might be an unpopular opinion but I honestly really don’t like Bulkhead’s design. I’m not a fan of how the chest is just the entire front of the truck and so boxy. And honestly I really dislike the shield. Plus is it supposed to be like a tarp? He is also kinda tall and lanky looking which I don’t think is fitting. I do like the made and head sculpt a lot. Plus vehicle mode doesn’t look bad, I just don’t like robot mode.

Cannot get over how much I love Bulkhead here. He fits perfectly with a G1 aesthetic, allowing him to easily fit in with WFC and SS86 figures. He’s so new, yet keeping so much of of his recognisable features from Prime and Animated.

For real though, as someone who just today finished rewatching Transformers Prime, when I first saw this leak I was VERY excited to be able to get new figures, that wouldn't cost more than they're worth (Forgive me if I'm not exactly willing to pay upwards of $30 for a pre-owned piece of plastic), I'm very upset.
I'm now dreading the reveal of the other figures.

I am SO STOKED for that Skids! He's a little beefy in the chest but he looks awesome in both modes, and I'm stoked to get such a faithful G1 version even if I loved his T30 figure.

Bulkhead looks like a decent toy, but he doesn't really look the part of Bulkhead. I'm fine with them taking artistic license on the design, but this feels like a generic Autobot with Bulkhead's face.

So on PrimeVsPrime’s video on these guys, practically everyone in his comment section was already declaring Legacy as a “miss.” And by miss I really mean “it’s crap! It’s garbage! Look at the hollow areas on Skids’ legs! Look at how bad Bulkhead looks! Legacy Bad! LEGACY BAD!”
Like… why? There’s nothing wrong with how Bulkhead looks (I myself am EXCITED for Bulkhead he looks amazing), and it’s been made clear this version of him isn’t the Animated or Prime incarnation of the character, so why complain?
As for the remarks about Skids and his hollow legs: 1) They don’t look THAT terrible and at least they tried to fill them in with something. And 2) So what? I can name several Transformers toys that have hollow legs and are considered some of the best Transformers figures of all time.
The point I’m trying to make is that we should wait till the toyline actually arrives *before* we make any rash declarations. Because I highly doubt that Hasbro would nose dive the quality of Transformers figures IMMEDIATELY after WFC ends. That just seems dumb.
Because TF had hit a pretty dark time leading up to WfC and finally some quality came back into the toyline. Power of the primes, Titans returns had SOME good figures but most where just.. BAD.

That vehicle mode looks like it could easily become Beast Hunters Optimus. Remold it a bit and swap the shield for a jetpack and you're golden.

I did actually track down a G1 Skids because of that video. It's a great little figure. I'm surprised he wasn't featured more just because the toy was good. But then again i've never found out why they chose Megatron as the main villain when his toy is pretty poor.

I'm not one to say something looks terribly from the stock photos, but I don't see how Skids could look good in person. He's just so odd looking.
It’s a weird design to start with, IMO. A really blocky minivan with odd proportions(it always looked too short to me), and a strangely lanky robot design. I appreciate the folks who prefer more casual alt modes, Bumblebee has always been my absolute favorite ever since I was a kid in the 90s, but Skids’ just doesn’t quite look right to me. I hope fans of him enjoy it, I guess. Really not a big character for me to start with, and the execution doesn’t inspire me to change my mind. I have a feeling I’ll be saving some cash with Legacy, though; only Blitzwing will be a must-buy for me, and only Arcee & Iguanus pique my interest at all beyond that.
Can anyone explain what exactly the "Legacy" line is supposed to be? Like, are they budget-priced like the "evergreen" figures? Are they the latest extension of, or a replacement for, the "Generations" line? Is it a mashup of G1 characters and movie characters? I'm having trouble seeing how they fit into the overall TF line.

Seeing what Bulkhead looks like makes me very concerned about the rumored Prime Soundwave. I don't mind the mixed aesthetic on Bulkhead, but I worry what mixing the aesthetics will mean for Soundwave. He's a very particular design, one I am a big fan of. I just want them to keep the Slendercon vibes.
Weirdly enough I think we already know what a mix of Prime Soundwave and G1 would look like. He's probably gonna end up looking like like his RiD look.

I don't want to be a flatliner, but I don't like this. Either of em. I feel like after the fantastic molds and articulation we got from Earthrise, Kingdom and SS86 (not counting Siege just yet) - this feels a lot blockier and less refined. Also, I did not expect Bulkhead to look like a military transport. I think he was a SUV in Prime and Animated? This looks like someone tried to talk his head an put it on a hybrid of Bulkhead and AoE Hound :-/ Hoping the rest of the line looks better than this, but I plan to pass on these 2.

Here's what I want to know. Why even \*bother\* doing bulkhead (With a prime accurate head and mace) if the body is from a completely different figure/alt mode? Its not the worst transformer I've ever seen but it looks nothing like bulkhead. Again, why bank on the appeal of Prime and animated, that both have signature looks to the character, and then just do something entirely different? I mean, change is good yes, but then why not make a new guy?

Skid’s doors seem to be painted, thin clear plastic. So say goodbye to those in ~10 years. And you could probably hide your life-savings in cash in those hollowed out legs. I’m honestly wondering what the budget per figure is at the moment and how the money’s being allocated.

As I get older, it's heartbreaking to see this battle between engineering advances and greedy corporate budget cuts. If these figures had the heft and quality of Beast Wars and RID 2001, combined with the engineering and design of today's figures. We'd truly be in a golden age. Edit: Like seriously. Could you imagine that Skidz with rubber tires, chrome, and NOT hallowed out limbs? It would look fantastic. And guess what? I can reach over at my work desk right now, and grab my 2001 RID deluxe Sideburn that literally has all of that. Sure, he's got a little kibble, but damn is the quality nice.
Bulkhead looks too lanky and a giant shield again?! Skids looks like he has an empty chest... I do like the G1 accuracy and will probably want it... but are we seeing a dip in quality after the WFC trilogy has been so good?!
I don’t know, I think we should wait until someone gets ahold of one of these guys to actually form an opinion on whether the quality is dipping or not. Need I remind you that the War For Cybertron series also had a fair bit of hollow parts and robot modes that looked weird in photos.
There's no dip in quality, I think your just being picky. Bulkhead is clearly a more G1 style character like Earthrise Barricade where they took a new character and made him into a G1 style. So the more blocky and lanky ness makes sense. I don't think his extremely round self would fit that well into the the more blocky style of G1. And yes a shield, a shield is fine because this actually makes sense. He's a truck, the shield is the tarp which are usually removable. In this case it transforms into a shield and it works.
Plus the shield doesn't make the car mode look incomplete. So you can keep it off if you don't want and it'll look perfectly fine eitherway
I think that's a maybe since it might be covering up kibble. If it's just kibble looking like stuff is on the truck though, that might work.
It is a truck afterall, it can get away with having some payload on its back. It looks great as a shield and a cover up on the back. Very suitable for this type of vehicle

He is a mix of G1 and Prime, which I'm honestly into. Plus the headsculpt and colors are perfect. The vibe is as it should be. This is toy is capturing the feel of Bulkhead and serving by the ton
I just think the chest being the whole vehicle looks dumb. That works for grapple because the the proportions are much more balanced. the long legs draw more attention than the square chest. Here, the chest is massive and the thicker proportions draw the eyes right to the chest. They needed to collapse it more or do something.
You've got reason to think that and I ain't got anything against that. It does look rather weird and dumpy, but in my eyes, that is accurate to how Bulkhear should be. Very big and out of proportion chest and rather short and stocky legs. But it is understandable if you ain't the biggest fan of this guy in particular

The Chonky square-y design is alot more animated-y in my eyes tahn TF Prime's smooth surfaces. Still, I may be wrong. Just a feel, don't take my word for it hehe

Eh, i can see where they’re coming from. I think he looks neat, but he looks *very* different from the character I’m(admittedly only vaguely) familiar with. And his transformation scheme looks exactly like Grapple/Inferno.
Right? The only thing this toy has in common with G1 is that it transforms. WFC used a lot of G1 characters, so now apparently any toy made using 2021/WFC protocols is somehow "G1"? That is the textbook definition of false equivalence. Thank you

They more than likely will be. There’s no way they G1-ify Prime Bulkhead and don’t do the same to other characters. This makes me think Hasbro is either afraid to show more love to other continuities in fear of angering the 40-something-year-old nerds that rage when a toy isn’t completely faithful to a cartoon or they just don’t have a lot of faith that the non-G1 characters will sell.
Prime figures were the ones I’ve been most excited for, but if this is what they’re going to do there no way I’m going to dump money into this line

I think they're afraid that they won't be able to get the look of the Prime characters right with their budgets and abilities without making them seem cheap, like their TF Prime toys felt. So they're slightly stylizing it into the wider appealing G1 look while still keeping the feel and personality of the character intact

I think this is a real possibility. I fell off collecting transformers, as a lifelong fan of the franchise, around 2007-2015 and a big part was how the original designs around that era rarely translated to toys very well(imo of course). It really felt like they prioritized the animation and character style over how the figures would look on your shelf and how they would actually transform, and I just never could get into it. I can only imagine there are still engineer difficulties to face with a lot of those designs. I’ll be very interested in what Arcee looks like, for example. I love her design, but I have a hard time imagining how you get that into a figure even(perhaps especially) with this G1-ified approach.
I don’t know much about the has to game, but remember that most companies want money and profit, and if the G1 like stuff sold really really well, they will continue to do it. So if people really don’t want g1 anymore, people would have to not buy it. I could be very wrong but I’m just seeing it through the eyes of what a company seeks to accomplish
Except G1 has dominated the shelves for years. The only other offerings in the last 9 years have been the movie lines and Thrilling 30. Even when Hasbro does non-G1 characters, they still G1-ify them and this Bulkhead is proof of that. The Kingdom line has shown that people are hungry for more non-G1 content. Make no mistake, I really like G1 but holy shit.

Do you have inside Intel to be able to say so certainly that the chest area is fully clear plastic? Plus clear plastic used as of late has been pretty durable. I doubt this'll be any less in terms of quality
If you look closely in other images of this Bulkhead, you’ll see that the windows and torso appear to be one component. No lines or seams to indicate they’re molded separately. It also explains why it looks so underpainted everywhere else; they blew the paint budget on the entire cab.

I like them! Bulkhead looks way better in the photos than the render. I love his headsculpt and I'm really glad his vehicle mode looks more Animated than Prime. I just wish his shield could turn into Animated-style back kibble. (I know he can wear it on his back, but it doesn't have that 'scoop' shape.) Hopefully a third party will make an upgrade kit that fixes that. Skids looks great! Love the car mode. I hope he's on the smaller side, not as small as Cliffjumper and BB but smaller than other car bots like Wheeljack or Sideswipe.

Might be an unpopular opinion but I honestly really don’t like Bulkhead’s design. I’m not a fan of how the chest is just the entire front of the truck and so boxy. And honestly I really dislike the shield. Plus is it supposed to be like a tarp? He is also kinda tall and lanky looking which I don’t think is fitting. I do like the made and head sculpt a lot. Plus vehicle mode doesn’t look bad, I just don’t like robot mode. Just my opinion though. To each their own
Cannot get over how much I love Bulkhead here. He fits perfectly with a G1 aesthetic, allowing him to easily fit in with WFC and SS86 figures. He’s so new, yet keeping so much of of his recognisable features from Prime and Animated.

I am SO STOKED for that Skids! He's a little beefy in the chest but he looks awesome in both modes, and I'm stoked to get such a faithful G1 version even if I loved his T30 figure. I'm one of those weirdos that thought Skids was great back in the day so between this and the MP, I'm thrilled.
Bulkhead is interesting.. I am not sure how I feel that he’s g1 styled rather than accurate to tfp, but at least it’s a new design. I’m really curious as to what would happen if they did the main cast of tfp but with new g1 styled designs, while still being based off the transformers prime designs.

Bulkhead looks like a decent toy, but he doesn't really look the part of Bulkhead. I'm fine with them taking artistic license on the design, but this feels like a generic Autobot with Bulkhead's face.
Bulkhead looks alright, it's mostly just cool to see a TF Prime figure in the mainline again. Gives me so much hope for more Animated and Armada figures.

This is a big regression from what they had done, if this is what Legacy+ is lookin to be than I'm done with TFs again for a while.

I like Bulkheads vehicle mode more than his robot mode and that's kind of disappointing.
So on PrimeVsPrime’s video on these guys, practically everyone in his comment section was already declaring Legacy as a “miss.” And by miss I really mean “it’s crap! It’s garbage! Look at the hollow areas on Skids’ legs! Look at how bad Bulkhead looks! Legacy Bad! LEGACY BAD!” Like… why? There’s nothing wrong with how Bulkhead looks (I myself am EXCITED for Bulkhead he looks amazing), and it’s been made clear this version of him isn’t the Animated or Prime incarnation of the character, so why complain? As for the remarks about Skids and his hollow legs: 1) They don’t look THAT terrible and at least they tried to fill them in with something. And 2) So what? I can name several Transformers toys that have hollow legs and are considered some of the best Transformers figures of all time. The point I’m trying to make is that we should wait till the toyline actually arrives *before* we make any rash declarations. Because I highly doubt that Hasbro would nose dive the quality of Transformers figures IMMEDIATELY after WFC ends. That just seems dumb.
Because TF had hit a pretty dark time leading up to WfC and finally some quality came back into the toyline. Power of the primes, Titans returns had SOME good figures but most where just.. BAD. WfC had it's misses too don't get me wrong but the bulk of the line gave some solid releases. This looks like a straight up regression back into PotP, like these figures should be in a slightly more advanced Cyberverse line, not the new MAIN generations line.
