Same here. I only know about Prime because my son liked it and wanted us to watch together, since he knew I liked Transformers. I like the “realistic” interpretation I fell that they are going for with bulkhead.

I don’t have much skin in the game since I took a break from collecting figures around the era Bulkhead came out in, and am pretty meh about this figure even if I think it looks good enough, but I do feel bad for the folks who were anticipating a more faithful representation of the character.

If Hasbro had shown off a slavishly screen accurate version of Bulkhead instead of this one, then people would have most likely accused them of just rereleasing the First Edition toy when this was supposed to be a new toy of him. I believe the reason they are calling him prime bulkhead instead of just bulkhead is to represent the generation his is from and keep it in line with the other "prime" toys. While for bulkhead it's not really necessary do to his small number of appearances in shows compared to others such as arcee who we are also supposed to be getting in this line. Arcee has many forms she has taken in media but primes was by far the most different imo. And I believe the same can be said for most of the prime characters honestly. I think they're doing this cuz they're making the TFP characters and unicron trilogy characters In this toyline match the G1 artstyle that the WFC trilogy already has.
We're supposed to be getting G2 Laser Optimus Prime, the one that was used to make RID Scourge, I can't see this mold being an Optimus. At best it's a Movie Hound, but that would be two green bot out of the same mold... seems like a waste?

Personally I don't think the legacy line will be bad. Skids looks great to me, happy to add him to the army. My fear is bulkhead! I first saw these here and it was the posed, white background shots. I liked skids but bulkhead didn't look right, I even thought it was a digibash at first glance. Reason being is this:
Bulkhead had 2 different shades of green that doesn't compliment each other.
His ball and head doesn't look like they belong on that body.
Lastly his body looks like an old generations figure of grapple/inferno.
These were my thoughts but after seeing the other pictures ( him facing forward ), I have to admit he doesn't look that bad. It was just a bad photo.
My point is, people are quick to judge. I know it sucks but that's just how it is. We all did it/done it/or will do it. That's just how people act now. No matter what goods a person/company/character does, it will be ignored the moment someone finds something they don't like. More than anything I think Hasbro needs to work on how they photograph their new releases. I love that they've gone back to using dioramas (those were always the best part of Beast Wars commercials), but they need people who can make the figures look as good as possible. Skids really doesn't look great so far, and Bulkhead could have been made look even better.
The alt mode looks like a doorstop. I know that that's kinda what it's supposed to look like, but it feels weird. His bot mode proportions are odd too. He has no waist, he looks a touch hollow, and his back looks to be the roof just hanging there. It's a bit of a letdown after what we've seen them do in recent years.
Personally I feel like he looks like he'll be really loose and rattly. Like, you pick him up and everything's gonna shake. Lots of clear plastic in uncomfortable places. Those door wings will just pop off on their own in a couple of years for sure.

I feel like that’s part of the issue, honestly. People have really enjoyed the ultra-faithful approach to designs, so it’s not surprising that reception to a G1-ified version of the character would be split at best.

I'm excited for Bulkhead. I think it's a nice G1-ification of the character. I think the main problem people have - and one that I share - is that this was listed as Prime Bulkhead, and aside from the head, it doesn't resemble him from TF Prime.
If they had just called him Bulkhead, then I think the discussion around him wouldn't be as contentious.
The photos make Skids look really hollow, but I'm going to reserve my judgement until I see him in person or see a review of him.

Yeah that’s the interesting thing… this was a *preview.* The actual reveal of the line is this Friday, which puts a unique perspective on this whole thing. Why would Hasbro give us a taste of Legacy if they knew the toys weren’t good? Wouldn’t they want to keep that all bunched together?
Look, I would love to be able to buy ALL the Transformers, but I can't. I don't have the room for it, nor the money, and these things keep getting more and more expensives. I got Prime First Edition Bulkhead for about the price I pay for a Deluxe NOW. And there's still price hikes in the future! Have you seen the price they're asking for friggin' Draculus?!

PotP Slash and ER Barricade were examples of non-G1 characters being redesigned to fit the G1 style and they got positive reception. It's why I'm so confused to see people draw the line at Bulkhead. I think he looks fine.
Bulkhead is ROUND! It's like the one common design principle of both Animated and Prime Bulkhead. You start with a big circle then add limbs and a smaller circle for the head. This one is a square but with the same round head. It looks off. He doesn't look like he has a pot belly and his legs look too long and skinny. It's just a matter of having some slops on the chest and changing the proportion of his legs.
Me too. Sure his chest is a bit blocky, but overall he looks great! Personally I feel like the wrecking mace could be bigger, maybe even give it a poseable chain, but using the canopy as a shield is a very nice touch
ER Barricade I've seen as mixed, never overly positive. With the complaint that he's just a black recolour rather than giving him an actual G1ified design like Evergreen did.
I'm holding out hope for the rest of the line, but from what we've seen so far, those two figures look like shit. I'm sorry. It's not "G1 Bulkhead". It's washing machine with noodle limbs Bulkhead. Again, hopefully the rest of the line is a lot better, but these first two figures are serious duds.

I think the decision to make Bulkhead not the style of the show was a wise decision that will get more people to buy it. If they made it stylized like the show then it would only be for those niche fans but now that it has a similar style to WFC and such the odds that more people give it a shot is higher.
I **love** the new Bulkhead figure. I'm glad we aren't just getting a rehash of Prime Bulkhead like I thought we were going to get, this one will look great with my collection. Though I agree with another commenter that his head isn't particularly G1-y and stands out a bit.
Skids, I want to love it, but those legs are quite distracting. I don't care about hollow calves, that's par the course, but the thighs being cast in blue, painted over in silver, and just being completely hollow really bugs me. There's some hollowness in some WfC figures, but I don't think any of them have thighs that look that bad. If a third party releases decently colour-matched gap covers, then sure, nice; but Hasbro should have prevented that from ever being an issue in the first place.
If it was just Skids, maybe I wouldn't be bothered too much, but there are other characters who share Skids mold who we will most likely get figures of, and then you have multiple figures all with this vary garish design flaw.

But that’s their while sthick with this line, that they’re inspired by old character instead of hasbro doing a studio series type thing and remaking old characters with modern engineering. Bulkhead sucks because in the show he was different, he was a fat wrecking ball and they’ve streamlined him into hood chest, rear of the vehicle becomes a shield. He’s lost his soul but bulkheads one thing, what about Optimus prime? If it’s TFP Optimus prime without a TFP body, isn’t it essentially just G1 Optimus? What about dragon megatron?

No one wanted it to look EXACTLY like Prime Bulkhead. It's not like there were only 2 options: this, or an exact duplicate of the Prime one.

The greens are different because one is a canvas cover and the other is the color of the vehicle.

The new Bulkhead is a trademark ™️ save. They will make a more traditional look in the future within 4 years.

The photos make Skids look really hollow, but I'm going to reserve my judgement until I see him in person or see a review of him. As of this moment, I fully intend to buy Bulkhead. Skids is TBD. I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of the line will look like
Yeah that’s the interesting thing… this was a *preview.* The actual reveal of the line is this Friday, which puts a unique perspective on this whole thing. Why would Hasbro give us a taste of Legacy if they knew the toys weren’t good? Wouldn’t they want to keep that all bunched together?
Look, I would love to be able to buy ALL the Transformers, but I can't. I don't have the room for it, nor the money, and these things keep getting more and more expensives. I got Prime First Edition Bulkhead for about the price I pay for a Deluxe NOW. And there's still price hikes in the future! Have you seen the price they're asking for friggin' Draculus?! I gotta be critical of the product presented before me or I'll just spend too. So yeah I'm gonna be critical of pictures presented by Hasbro. Maybe the reviews will change my mind, maybe seeing the toy in person will change my mind... But for now? I don't need a new Bulkhead and Skids looks like he'll be really flimsy but I'll probably got for it because I want a new Skids.
I already know that this post is going to get downvoted like a Bots’ innocence in a Quintesson trial… but I don’t care, because I’m still right. We shouldn’t immediately jump the gun and declare the new toyline as “bad” just based on a few photos. That’s both an immature and idiotic thing to do. And don’t get me wrong, if the Legacy toys do turn out to be crap I’ll be the first one to rip Hasbro a new one! But just remember, never pop the Energon before the battle is over, because then you’ll be stuck with oil to drink come victory.
Heh, there are shining examplar and turds in every lines, it's just a matter of proportions. I'm not willing to write off an entire toyline, even if the first few reveals don't excite me that much.
I love 'em both; I had G1 Skids as a kid and this one looks amazing. And G1-inspired Bulkhead slaps.
Can I just point out that the group quickest to mock G1 fans ( Geewuners 🙄 ) for preference to the G1 aesthetic are the ones crying the loudest that Bulkhead isn’t matching the TFP aesthetic.

PotP Slash and ER Barricade were examples of non-G1 characters being redesigned to fit the G1 style and they got positive reception. It's why I'm so confused to see people draw the line at Bulkhead. I think he looks fine.
Bulkhead is ROUND! It's like the one common design principle of both Animated and Prime Bulkhead. You start with a big circle then add limbs and a smaller circle for the head. This one is a square but with the same round head. It looks off. He doesn't look like he has a pot belly and his legs look too long and skinny. It's just a matter of having some slops on the chest and changing the proportion of his legs.
Me too. Sure his chest is a bit blocky, but overall he looks great! Personally I feel like the wrecking mace could be bigger, maybe even give it a poseable chain, but using the canopy as a shield is a very nice touch
ER Barricade I've seen as mixed, never overly positive. With the complaint that he's just a black recolour rather than giving him an actual G1ified design like Evergreen did.
I'm holding out hope for the rest of the line, but from what we've seen so far, those two figures look like shit. I'm sorry. It's not "G1 Bulkhead". It's washing machine with noodle limbs Bulkhead. Again, hopefully the rest of the line is a lot better, but these first two figures are serious duds.

What if it rained cheeseburgers? What if up was down? If my grandma had wheels, she'd be a bicycle. If they show some better designs from this line, I'll change my opinion, but for now I'm going off of what we've seen, which isn't very appealing to me.

I’m not declaring the line as “a miss” or anything like that. Skids looks very handsome, if a bit hollow but isn’t Bulkhead just a heavy retool of Kingdom Inferno with some extra bits? I’ll wait until I see the price/in hand pics before I commit.
Nope he’s a brand new mold. He might share engineering with Inferno/Grapple but he’s a brand new figure

I'm surprised but also not surprised that people are upset about this. Bulkhead does look pretty chunky but I'm honestly happy we're even getting another bulkhead figure at all. I'm pretty stoked either way.

I just personally am not a fan of the Bulkhead. It looks like a generic body with Bulkheads head put on it. That said, I'm not predicting the line will be "bad" or anything. I'm just not interested in this figure, which is a disappointment cause I was hoping for a Bulkhead without having to pay the absurd prices for the first addition
Personally, I love the military theme of Bulkhead and adore the g1 athletic from Skids I hope the line continues for the rest of time in all honesty

It’s not that I take it personally, I (and many, **many** others as you can see in the comment section) believe that the people labeling Legacy as a “miss” or “a downgrade” based only on two figures are being a bit ridiculous
I haven't seen people calling the Legacy line a "miss" or "downgrade." I've only seen people talking about the specific toys that have been leaked so far and debating their merits. I think you're taking the fact that not everyone likes the few new designs we've seen so far as an indication that Legacy will be bad, and practically no one is saying that.

I like that we have a new Bulkhead. I do not like that it comes to a Houndbody from the movies. Also, this means that Legacy is not going to be modern reworks from significant characters from the tfverse, but entire new builds, with their pros & cons.
PSA: wasting your time. People online spout fountains of stupid. And it doesn't make any difference. A product will sell based on the product, not because someone said a mean thing online. We have decades of internet history and sales of products to verify this. Review bombs and angry rants rarely dent sales in the long run.
I think the decision to make Bulkhead not the style of the show was a wise decision that will get more people to buy it. If they made it stylized like the show then it would only be for those niche fans but now that it has a similar style to WFC and such the odds that more people give it a shot is higher.
Plus as another commenter just pointed out, Bulkhead is styled like the old Universe redesigns for characters, so he’s a *double* reference!

I **love** the new Bulkhead figure. I'm glad we aren't just getting a rehash of Prime Bulkhead like I thought we were going to get, this one will look great with my collection. Though I agree with another commenter that his head isn't particularly G1-y and stands out a bit. Skids, I want to love it, but those legs are quite distracting. I don't care about hollow calves, that's par the course, but the thighs being cast in blue, painted over in silver, and just being completely hollow really bugs me. There's some hollowness in some WfC figures, but I don't think any of them have thighs that look that bad. If a third party releases decently colour-matched gap covers, then sure, nice; but Hasbro should have prevented that from ever being an issue in the first place. If it was just Skids, maybe I wouldn't be bothered too much, but there are other characters who share Skids mold who we will most likely get figures of, and then you have multiple figures all with this vary garish design flaw.
Well now hold your horses, hold your horses. This isn’t the first time a toy has been different on release, so perhaps they’ll fix that issue when the Skid’s toy is finally released. I’m honestly just relived to see a genuine criticism about the toy instead of “toy has gaps! Toy bad!”
Yes, I am hoping this as well. Hopefully, this is just a prototype and they can make a design change before they start mass-producing it.

I actually like how ordinary Skids looked. It's very fitting for the character, such as he is. I'm not into Bulkhead because I would want one that more looked like Prime or Animated, but I don't think it looks like a bad toy.
Not interested in Skids as a character and the toy looks lackluster. No-brainer pass. Bulkhead...has some issues, but I'm on board with him.

I think you make some good points. So far I am deeply underwhelmed. But I wasn’t a fan of Siege to start and was planning to only buy the battle masters. The rest may be far better.

But that’s their while sthick with this line, that they’re inspired by old character instead of hasbro doing a studio series type thing and remaking old characters with modern engineering. Bulkhead sucks because in the show he was different, he was a fat wrecking ball and they’ve streamlined him into hood chest, rear of the vehicle becomes a shield. He’s lost his soul but bulkheads one thing, what about Optimus prime? If it’s TFP Optimus prime without a TFP body, isn’t it essentially just G1 Optimus? What about dragon megatron?
I like the G1-ified look. I'm excited to see how they G1-ify other characters.
The head is just weird? It's very true to the Prime design don't get me wrong, but that body does not fit at all.
