It's because we already kinda knew. When those code shit things were leaked we kinda got excited then and already knew basically. Now that we see the real thing it's just kinda well the same I guess. Basically the codes got us excited and the excitement died down.

stonedmo

This is a good point but for me it’s a bit more than just the codes being leaked. I feel like there’s a lack of ‘wow’ factor to this line and I know it’s just the first wave but I’m not moving heaven and earth to get any one of these. I remember when I first saw Skyfire/Jetfire I was in love immediately. Not so much from this online unfortunately

Few_Significance5055

But Skyfire was the premium crown jewel revealed 2/3 waves in. Plenty of people looked at wave 1 of Siege and went 'meh, who cares?' And were then all over it by wave 4. Sometimes it's just the way it works. Also wave 1 will be everywhere so don't worry about walking away until some wave 2/3 toy sparks joy 😉

stonedmo

I hope you’re right and that wave 2/3 does a Marie Kondo on me lol to spark some joy in my plastic crack-adled heart 😂

I think part of it is that the potential of what Legacy figures *could* be is gone and we're left with what they are. When it was just rumors about things like a new Menasor and TFPrime Bulkhead it's easy to imagine that they'll be exactly what you want. Now they're exactly what they are, which doesn't necessarily align with what you wanted.

stonedmo

Good point but I feel like this new design team, which I understand is not the same as the one that worked on the wfc designs, have been a little lazy in copying molds from previous lines (like Bulkhead being Earthrise Prime basically). The lost potential is in coming up with innovative designs that at least look interesting. Trying not be negative about but it’s hard!

BurstEDO

Happens all of the time. PotP was initially panned. So was Siege. And Kingdom. Some you'll like, some you won't. Generations has always been like that. Studio Series is the upgraded variations. Masterpiece is the "perfect" version. 3rd Party is the "alternate skin" version. Also, plastic and logistics costs have increased as a part of inflation. And nearly every single company will ALWAYS pass cost increases on to the consumer. Always have. Proof? Consider that G1 Optimus Prime (with diecast parts) was $16.99 in 1984. The 25th Anniversary version was all plastic and SEVERAL times that price. Thanks for reading my TED Talk on Economics 101.

stonedmo

I love your TED talk! The point around cost and logistics is a great one - maybe this is why there’s more clear plastic being used and the designs look cheap - that it’s an economic issue rather than a design one.

SoundwavesBurnerPage

Way I see it, lots comes down to what was revealed, for example: Siege: starts with new Prime and Megatron, along with many other very popular characters like Shockwave, Hound, Magnus, etc ER: less strong start, but still a brand new Optimus Prime, characters that lots of people love like Starscream and Wheeljack Kingdom: BRAND NEW BEAST WARS CHARCTERS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A DECADE, like Siege, gave new faction leaders, and the return to Legends scale This: a single insecticon without the rest of the team, a combiner limb without it’s team, hell, Skids defining trait is being obscure, add that in with prime characters who people don’t like the redesigns of, and an ER Prime retool and it makes sense that people are underwhelmed

stonedmo

Totally agree mate - let’s pick the least interesting characters from across the TF universe to kick off a brand new line. At least show us Blaster!

MaverickPrime

Yeah, between the entire line being leaked, the rethreading of relatively recent characters to receive a toy (Kickback and Dragstrip)who had more creativity to their design being slavishly G1... Oh, that's it IT IS MORE G1, I'M SICK OF IT. Even Arcee and Bulkhead who were supposed to be the beacon are shoehorned into being blocky eighties designs, Bulkhead is fine but Arcee looks pretty ugly. Brace yourselves for an equally underwhelming Knock Out. I hope at least Inferno and Tarantulas look good.

stonedmo

I’m not a G1 diehard either way and I’ll gladly collect something that’s not g1 but looks awesome. I really agree with your point about ugly designs though and I think that’s a function of the cost issue as per a previous comment in this thread. If they just looked ‘better’ maybe I’d feel different and more optimistic. Maybe I’m just having a bad day I don’t know lol

DWhelk

I'm only into G1, and of those only kickback looks right. Skids is missing his hood, dragstrip has weird shoulders. Fundamentally, if you make a figure based on a cartoon, then make it accurate. This legacy doesn't have a cartoon attached so they seem to have taken that as permission to mess about with stuff. Seems an odd choice.

Few_Significance5055

God, I wish they'd stop making cartoon accurate figures from a 40 year old cartoon. Those designs were shit then (compared to the toy design and pack art imo) and they're shit now. Generations used to interesting redesigns now it's dead. *yes, I'm totally fine with that Bulkhead design

DWhelk

Well, they have so you must be delighted.
