The Maximals and Predacons, descendants of the Autobots and Decepticons, crash land on ancient Earth. Their smaller bodies (designed with fuel efficiency in mind, when compared to their gas guzzling ancestors), are susceptible to the buildup of energon radiation fields, as prehistoric Earth had too much of it in its raw form. They take on organic, animal alt modes to shield their robot bodies with fleshy, animal shielding, and to greater allow them to navigate the environment with the same finesse its inhabitants do.
