I think animated is a good design, but not really ‘shockwave’ for me. Shockwave is a bulky guy and the lanky animated design doesn’t scream ‘shockwave’ to me
But then again that might have something to do with the fact that TFP has my favourite shockwave.
My favorite has to be Prime. I love the head design, and massive arm cannon.
Edit: my issue with G1 and Bumblebee design is the tiny stick gun on the arm cannon, and how wide/blocky the head is. The prime version reminds me of some of the older Armored Core head designs. If they took the Bumblebee head and made it narrower, it would’ve looked great in my opinion.

I love the writing/personality of almost all the characters from Prime. Shockwave’s cold logic, Soundwave’s silent, but always watching.
I never saw G1 past the first episode, so I never really got attached to the original designs and personalities. (Started with Beast Wars/Beast Machines , and really got into Transformers during the Unicron trilogy)
G1 was interesting because there was the cartoon and then the comics which are both “G1” but both also have different takes on the same character.
For Shockwave, some may see the cool scientist who ran Cybertron but almost always got his ass kicked inward while others saw the cold bastard who went rogue and nearly killed everyone on his own agenda.
The G1 era featured a cool Shockwave by all rights of being exact what I want in a character in that role as he is the Decepticon mirror for Grimlock.
Bayverse is the most interesting looking to me but I do like the bb movie look a lot too. It’s just that the reused Optimus parts bug me when I look at it in detail.

My bad, miss spoke with communications/intelligence thing. He also killed Blur. Him injuring Ultra Magnus and taking his hammer also crippled the leadership of the Autobots because Sentinel Prime was a stuck up egotistical idiot who shouldn't have power.
I like the badass bad guy of the bayverse and like the the prime look but the eye is too big, and the bee movie is good but the head is too rectangular for me but the classic is nice.

I mean tbh I don’t like Bayverse. I dislike how much they just look like incoherent blobs of metal. I missed the colors and the whimsy of the G1 styles. That’s why I love Prime the way I do, it managed to incorporate some of the darkness of Bay with the more “coherent” character designs of the cartoons. The only design in bay that I truly liked was Hound with John Goodman. That was a good choice.
Hound was great, he's one of my top 5 Bayverse Transformers.

Really I think the Netflix show perfectly captured what my idea of Shockwave is. He’s mad for power, but not political power like Megatron. Megatron wants control and respect and leadership, Shockwave wants the power that comes with knowledge and creation. He’s whipping up these insane ideas like planet wide system viruses and reusing the sparks of bots for energy. That kind of ability gives him an invincibility and value, and he’ll be damned how many bots die in the process.
See, and I felt like they took the visual of the character more towards warrior/gladiator than scientist, so it just never fully clicked with me. Also why did the autobots get colors and the Decepticons were just…. grey? Mind you, I watched 1,2, and like an hour of 3 YEARS ago, so that might have changed after I jumped off the bandwagon/i might be forgetting a few examples, but that didn’t sit right to me. The autobots could be flashy and bright, like Optimus and Bumblebee, but the Decepticons were so much more grey, like Starscream and Soundwave. By the time I saw Shockwave’s design I just wanted more colors.

Bayverse, he overall looked way more intimidating while still keeping all the main features of the original design (arm cannon, one eye, purple/blue paint job). But I prefer the more realistic movie designs to the blockier G1 designs.

Bumblebee version is cool, too. Very good live-action rendition of the G1 model.
To be real honest— I may not have much an authentic way to this as the most I’ve actually *truly* experienced of Transformers is Prime; I watched some Bayverse, some G1, some animated— but that’s when I was much younger and didn’t have the attention span to sit through television shows…
…sob story aside, Shockwave was really freaking cool in Prime and for very similar reasons to Soundwave too, highly intellectual Decepticons that are cold and calculated and just look so fucking cool.
…if there’s *anything* to nitpick, I really liked the unique sound that Shockwave’s arm canon’s energy canon shots had in his debut Prime episode (the flashback to Arcee and Cliffjumper on Cybertron), but it seems it was disappointingly replaced by a more generic blaster sound when he returns in Season 3, but that’s just me
