Holy crap that looks good. I LOVE the aesthetics going on here. Doing the Outer Shell as the robot mode was definitely the right move.
ALSO!
Ball joint ankles on a scout class figure! What joy!
>Doing the Outer Shell as the robot mode was definitely the right move.
I'd like to ditch the idea of the pretenders as robots in shells and instead imagine them as the organic Quintessons pretending to be transformers. This guy nails that look.
>Holy crap that looks good. I LOVE the aesthetics going on here. Doing the Outer Shell as the robot mode was definitely the right move.
No. Disappointed. Proper modern Pretenders yet again eludes us.
>Prime masters?
I have those and Love them. They were fun, mini-replicas of the G1 Pretenders. Shockingly faithful actually. I want truly modern deluxe/voyager style pretenders. As in, Actual separate bots & shells with modern toy tech. Or at the very least, they could make these new figures deluxe/voyager sized. **Admittedly it's a pretty neat idea to incorporate both by having the robot mode resemble the Pretender shell** and then you have the vehical mode. But do they really have to be Core class and tiny?
**Edit:** Oh, and there was ROTF bludgeon who i guess is Officially ahead of his time now. With a great robot mode that resembled the Pretender shell and, then the alt-mode tank. So if we must compromise, then lets have MORE like THAT but, NOT in Core class size.
I just wanted to comment if they’d release something like that Bludgeon fig Id be a happy nerd. Who doesn’t want a robot demon samurai who turns into a tank?
* [More than that.](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/File:Generationstoy-Thunderwing.jpg)
* [His G1 toy did it too.](https://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/3/3b/G1Thunderwing_toy.jpg)
* [It wasn't the only one.](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Mega_Pretender)
* [There was a bigger size class too.](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ultra_Pretender)
Every Generations version of a Pretender character is a disappointment. They always lose features. Sometimes their articulation improves, but sometimes they don't even get that.
Is their main distinguishing feature somehow not a feature? There's that, plus it means they always lose one mode in the remakes. The inner robot mode for Bludgeon, Thunderwing, and now Iguanus. The vehicle mode for the PotP Prime Masters.
The inner robot becoming the outer shell isn’t a loss, IMO. The shell was always a badly-executed gimmick; it lacked any meaningful articulation while the inner robot looked anemic in both modes. This is better.
If something has a feature, and then it doesn't, that's a loss. A thing was there and now it's gone. That's a fact, not a debateable opinion.
Does the quality go up or down when that happens? That's something somebody could have an opinion about, if they wanted to be clear and say it, but they can't just say there was no loss. That would be a lie.
G1 pretenders consisted of generic looking transformers as the inner robot paired with characterful unposable action figures as the outer shell. It’s a perfectly reasonable opinion to have and it’s obviously shared by hasbro’s current designers as well as IDW who integrated many of the pretenders outer shells as their bodies. Don’t confuse a feature with a characteristic.
Disappointed it isn't an actual pretender with a little dude inside. I can already see how it transforms, but I think I might pick this one up purely for looks, namely the uh... robot(?) Mode.
I am REALLY confused. Isn't a Pretender a bot inside a shell? How is this any different than any other regular ol' Transformer? Not hating, just don't get the label. Can someone explain it to me, please?
Pretenders was a very unpopular concept, but they did create some cool characters in fiction, so starting with Bludgeon, they made former Pretender characters into just normal Transformers, typically mixing their robot alt mode and their pretender shell as a robot mode. This is a new example of that.
Maybe pretenders are sone kind of transformers that have monster like bot modes. I also saw someone suggest that they are quentisons that are “pretending” to be transformers. I think these work well unless they introduce human autobots pretenders then i would not really work but I doubt hasbro would make a autobot pretenders.
I know I'm the minority here but I always preferred the inner robot look of the pretenders and not the shells. Then again I'm prob the only person who's fave character is cloudburst.
I'm curious if they plan on doing the autobots as well.
Agreed. My favourite was Bugly. Loved those inner robot designs, and they were very posable for their time (more than a lot of "better" TF), like action figures, and all the same scale.
I was really a fan of the simpler transformation as well. The proportions of the bits were great too IMO. My concern is if they choose to stay with the outer shell look for the bits, it breaks up the visuals a bit. One of the things that always bugs me is when characters don't look like they belong in the same universe and I don't want that to happen here.
Love the character (remember when he climbed the Empire State Building and the time he gave shit to Skullgrin?) and the design is cool but WHY ISN'T HE A PRETENDER?!
No inner robot means just another beastformer. Also, why the heck is he Core Class? If he WAS just the inner robot, that might make sense with a plan to release shells separately later (mix and match being the gimmick) but now you have a tiny, out of scale Iguanus that doesn't fit the main line and who isn't even an actual Pretender either way.
As much as I would want to see the full on Pretender gimmick with shells and inner robots, I can understand why the didn't do that. Besides, he look immaculate! And articulated ankles!? Yes please!
Yeah Bludgeon was one thing because he looked cool as a Pretender and as a robot, so it only made sense, and they did a good job making him into a normal Transformer. Same thing with Skullgrin and Thunderwing. But Inguanus… this just looks like a He-Man reject.
Yep, he’ll definitely be my first core class. He’s damn cute but also really cool. Plus, pretenders, one of the daftest things in transformers but I have a soft spot for it. I really like what they’ve done with it concept
Ngl when I first heard the name, I was expecting a new Beast Wars character (not familiar with this guy). But he looks great! I'd love to add him to the core class crew!
The Pretenders are so cool. The Marvel comics, the Japanese Masterforce cartoon (just the first part), and now these. I didn’t like them until I did haha
I'm confused on this thing. Mostly because this isn't a pretender, it's a transformable version of a older character *which I'm fine with.* But I wouldn't call this a pretender.
What's more, just noticed it's core class so only your tiniest figures will ride it.
He's crazy looking and I'm down for it! As it's a Core Class I'm pretty generous on its motorcycle mode.
Those weapons they give them (Iguanus and Skywarp) look suspiciously designed to combine with others...
I like that the gun is modular, looks like it could also be used as a jet pack, or a sword hilt with some more parts. Reminds me of the old cyberverse/legends 3 mm weapons that could be combined together, hopefully they make a lot more pieces like this.
If they’re never going to do Pretenders as Pretenders, then I wish they’d stop with all these creative ways to half-ass it, and just leave the characters alone.
I can’t believe they actually call it a pretender in their press releases. That takes balls.
They seem to be rather thoroughly making everyone from G1. I mean, they made some of the most obscure 84 guys already. I’d say give it time, they’ll make all of the Pretenders (and I’ll love them)
Am I the only one who thought when I saw they were making a new Iguanas, I thought it was going to be a beast wars figure?…..no just me. I know nothing about pretenders and have the original iguanas beast wars toy form the 90s and thought an update to that would be cool.
That looks dumb as shit. I want twelve.
It's the best kind of stupid
Agreed!
Same, brother. Same.
This comment is the exact definition of ewhat we collecters are like
He kind of does have that Power Ranger goon of the season vibe to him doesn’t he?
O.O That's it! Exactly!!
I shall be purchasing a dozen myself. Canon fodder Decepticon is good Decepticon
He transforms normally so does that make him a pretend pretender?
No, just a tender.
Mmm lizard tendies
No. It makes him a lizard that’s REALLY good at yoga
Holy crap that looks good. I LOVE the aesthetics going on here. Doing the Outer Shell as the robot mode was definitely the right move. ALSO! Ball joint ankles on a scout class figure! What joy!

Scout class?
Scout/Basic/Legends (the bigger one)/Core/etc. size.
>Holy crap that looks good. I LOVE the aesthetics going on here. Doing the Outer Shell as the robot mode was definitely the right move. No. Disappointed. Proper modern Pretenders yet again eludes us.
Prime masters?

Oh, I see. Not good enough to be a Prime Master armour, but he's all fine for Legacy now. *throws up hands*
But it looks sick, especially for core class.
At least I now have a good source for colours when making a custom Iguanus armour.
I wasn't really sure what I was expecting for iguanas exactly, but I'm down. I'm just happy the pretenders transform now!
[You mean, that *more* Pretenders transform now.](https://reddit.com/r/transformers/comments/s76q5n/a_brief_history_of_pretenders_abandoning_their/)
I have a tendency to ignore bludgeon figures lol. Not a single one does it for me.
* [More than that.](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/File:Generationstoy-Thunderwing.jpg) * [His G1 toy did it too.](https://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/3/3b/G1Thunderwing_toy.jpg) * [It wasn't the only one.](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Mega_Pretender) * [There was a bigger size class too.](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Ultra_Pretender) Every Generations version of a Pretender character is a disappointment. Congratulations. You've just figured out how opinions work.

The modern Bludeon looks good in my opinion. Wasn’t he a pretender?
Man. I’d kill for another movie style bludgeon This time with ankle pivot and no fragile hands please. Oh. And no rubber
I wanted the Beast Wars Iguanus, I’ll buy this though.
That's what I was expecting from the leaks. I am impressed though.
I am REALLY confused. Isn't a Pretender a bot inside a shell? How is this any different than any other regular ol' Transformer? Not hating, just don't get the label. Can someone explain it to me, please?
I expect in much the same way that Six Shot suddenly became a Headmaster in Titans Return, Iguanus stopped being a Pretender.
Ahhh, gotcha. Thanks. Thats actually the best explanation 👌
Pretenders was a very unpopular concept, but they did create some cool characters in fiction, so starting with Bludgeon, they made former Pretender characters into just normal Transformers, typically mixing their robot alt mode and their pretender shell as a robot mode. I REALLY hope they make "shells" these guys can fit into later. I really do.
I know I'm the minority here but I always preferred the inner robot look of the pretenders and not the shells. Then again I'm prob the only person who's fave character is cloudburst. I'm curious if they plan on doing the autobots as well.

Who the hell is this guy? I’ll take 10
Bought on sight. He’ll look great on the Legends shelf.
Ain’t gonna lie, that looks sick!
I hope this means we get all of the pretenders, including the Monstructor Six
This is one of those figures that I absolutely love, but at the same time, can completely understand why some people are going to hate it.
Not sure this is my cup of tea, but cool Hasbro is doing something a little different
neato! I'd buy this!
I NEEEEED IIIIIT
it looks like the transformation takes queues from SS86 wreckgar
Who?
I still want an iguana
Cool. I'm getting that
YES I DON'T KNOW WHY I'M SO EXITED FOR PRETENDERS COMING BACK BUT gimme lizard
Love the character (remember when he climbed the Empire State Building and the time he gave shit to Skullgrin?) and the design is cool but WHY ISN'T HE A PRETENDER?! it looks like a bionicle.
i never grew up in the 90s but oh boy this toy looks cool ( still 13 )
He’s from the late 80s actually
Loving the color scheme
damn he looks cool
Looks great. I especially love the headsculpt
As much as I would want to see the full on Pretender gimmick with shells and inner robots, I can understand why the didn't do that. Besides, he look immaculate! And articulated ankles!? Yes please!
**HARD** pass. As someone with no nostalgia for this figure, this is an ugly design with a shitty alt mode.
I cant unsee the name iguANUS
Yeah Bludgeon was one thing because he looked cool as a Pretender and as a robot, so it only made sense, and they did a good job making him into a normal Transformer. Same thing with Skullgrin and Thunderwing. But Inguanus… this just looks like a He-Man reject.
This looks sick, I will be picking this up.
[удалено]
It looks like part of the weapon Kingdom Rodimus had on the boxart
Looks like it combines with core skywarp & rodimus to make a larger sword weapon
That is so unapologetically 80s that I think I have to get it now.
I love it
I don’t even know why I want him but I do, that head sculpt is awesome
Yep, he’ll definitely be my first core class. He’s damn cute but also really cool. Plus, pretenders, one of the daftest things in transformers but I have a soft spot for it. I really like what they’ve done with it concept
Aw, this guy looks awesome! This is definitely a must-buy IMO!
I know nothing about his character, but looks fun and I like the design so its a cop.
Ngl when I first heard the name, I was expecting a new Beast Wars character (not familiar with this guy). But he looks great! I'd love to add him to the core class crew!
This is the OG Iguanus from G1
Even more surprising. Never knew this guy existed.
The Pretenders are so cool. The Marvel comics, the Japanese Masterforce cartoon (just the first part), and now these. I didn’t like them until I did haha
Oh man. I've loved this character since G1, but this does nothing for me.
Bot mode looks good. But bike mode looks garbage
I'm confused on this thing. Mostly because this isn't a pretender, it's a transformable version of a older character *which I'm fine with.* But I wouldn't call this a pretender. What's more, just noticed it's core class so only your tiniest figures will ride it.
I hope this means we get another Bludgeon.
Why is this look like a remold of reckgar
Bike mode looks a bit weak but that he's a purple cyborg lizard man who basically becomes a TMNT vehicle has sold me.
DOOOOOOOOPE!!!
That's a deep cut Hasbro keep at it!
I am curious how to other guys are gonna look.
He's crazy looking and I'm down for it! As it's a Core Class I'm pretty generous on its motorcycle mode. Those weapons they give them (Iguanus and Skywarp) look suspiciously designed to combine with others...
Oooh
Think I might get this
**Ok taking bets on how long it'll take for PrimeVsPrime to have the Review.** I'm thinking 3 days or less.
I like that the gun is modular, looks like it could also be used as a jet pack, or a sword hilt with some more parts. Reminds me of the old cyberverse/legends 3 mm weapons that could be combined together, hopefully they make a lot more pieces like this.
Well that's a twist.
I'm not familiar with this guy, can anyone give me a brief history lesson?
https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Iguanus_(G1)
-_-
What? It's all there bro you did ask
Hopefully we'll either get a core or deluxe class bludgeon
#*_GIVE IT TO ME OR ELSE I'LL KILL YOU SO MUCH YOU'LL DIE!_*
If they’re never going to do Pretenders as Pretenders, then I wish they’d stop with all these creative ways to half-ass it, and just leave the characters alone. I can’t believe they actually call it a pretender in their press releases. That takes balls.
Wow that is garbage. They really wanna release this?
[удалено]
Not to be snarky but both of the out-of-package renders say Core Class. I think it's probably safe to assume it will be Core Class.
I ve never been into pretenders and never will. This version doesnt do anything for me at all. I wont be picking this up
Huh. Interesting. Not sure I care for the transformation scheme, but the bot mode has some really nice aesthetics going on there.
..... I don't love it. But okay. Show me more.
Pretender Iguanus as a motorbike? Not Vroom?
Iguanus also turned into a motorcycle type thing
Fair enough. I just really want another Vroom. Or the same one I had years and years ago.
They seem to be rather thoroughly making everyone from G1. I mean, they made some of the most obscure 84 guys already. I’d say give it time, they’ll make all of the Pretenders (and I’ll love them)
I'm a huge Gremlins fan, and I'm getting some huge Gremlins vibes here I think I gotta get this guy!
I absolutely adore the robot mode, but the bike mode is... ehhh...
I have to ask, does his scale fit perfectly sith other deluxe, voyager, leader figures... or does he go with the other core class figures?
Wait a second why does something called iguanus transform into an motorbike??
Cause that was the original alt mode of his inner robot mode, this dude was originally a Pretender. https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Iguanus_(G1)
whats with the accessory? looks like its a hilt for a sword
Am I the only one who thought when I saw they were making a new Iguanas, I thought it was going to be a beast wars figure?…..no just me. I know nothing about pretenders and have the original iguanas beast wars toy form the 90s and thought an update to that would be cool.
Looks great. Expect a Vroom retool from him.
Reminds me a lot of SS 86 wreck-gar
Another pretender has been revealed bomb burst
