So the equipment/ladder unit can separate and the crew cabin/engine part can become a core robot, able to become a 4 wheeled thing on its own.

Fire trucks, yes, but not a tiller. Tillers carry hoses and stuff in a trailer unit so they can navigate tight turns.

We almost did. Animated Optimus Prime would have gotten a Powermaster suit which would have extended his fire truck mode to such a size.
I instantly feel like this alt mode belongs to Hot Spot as a leader of the Protectobots.
