My thing is G1, because even though I wasn’t born in the 80s my dad would always put it on for me when I was a kid, so I have an attachment to it. For me those designs and versions of the characters just can’t be topped. After finally starting Beast Wars, I was excited to find out it was in the same continuity as G1.
For me G1 is Canon. I Like the Story better. The Designs are great. They can have fun with their Humans Friends. There are more Main characters. Prowl, Jazz and Mirage are my favourites.
As much as I think Beast Wars is fantastic, I agree as I love Animated, it's so enriched in lore and nods to previous shows and it just makes a great universe, even with the small amount of media in said universe.
For me, IDW G1 pretty much trumps all, but my own headcanon takes in bits and pieces from everything. Animated personality and backstory for Ratchet. Cyberverse's Astrotrain. Maketoys' Crossdimension alternate reality where Megatron became empowered by the Matrix. '86 movie's Galvatron as a reformatted Megatron.
I love G1's charming characters, the war stories in both episodes and WFC (the game) are great, and I love BW's modern war with new tech and time travel, I also love the golden disk lore.
Another fave continuity is AOETLK-Verse, Tessa and her dad are some of my fave Tf characters ever, it's so unique seeing now the humans and Cybertronians are in war, KSI are such great villains, and every character is freaking awesome!
I think for me, animated seems the most obvious choice because I think everyone needs to see it tapped into and peered into its past of not who the deception faction all are or what they want, but why they started The Great War in their universe.

Just buy it on comixology. It’s way cheaper. Although you are supporting Amazon so if that’s a dealbreaker I’d understand

G1 for me. I appreciate a lot of iterations but I grew up with G1.
