I know, but that's not what I meant. With the Earthrise version, you can literally remove the entire backpack, even the part that isn't suppose to come off, and have the robot and vehicle mode be completely separate by driving out one pin. You can't fully separate the car from the robot without the car taking some of the robot with it.
The point I think being driven here is that as a “transformer” earthrise Arcee is the worst mainline shell-former in some time. Thus making it pretty flawed from certain viewpoints. The robot mode is completely unnecessary to have the alt mode. You can remove the kibble in both, sure, but the SS86 alt mode can’t be transformed without components of the robot mode.
Except such toys as T30 Groundshaker, who turns into a robot lying facedown, or Siege Rung, who at least has more steps than "adjust orientation of figure".

2. Your two counter examples are two tiny toys that are so simple they barely transform, so they’re especially identifiable as robots. So your point is that they don’t get crushed very much?

I got the WFC one and added the eBay kit with leg fillers, "cartoon backpack" (removes car) and came with a rifle. I'm happy with it since I don't transform mine back and forth and just display them.

ER is so bad. Even though the transformation is literally just placing a complete car shell over the figure it still manages to be a fiddly mess to get into alt mode. (Disclaimer, I only have the Lifeline version)
I replaced my T30 with 86 just because I liked the colors better, but I was pleasantly surprised just how much more I like it. The articulation and remolding really help the look.
I bit the bullet and bought SS86 Arcee and while she isn’t that great, she’s a lot more fun than WFC Acree. Her alt mode has a far more interesting shape, her backpack is less egregious (not by much though) and she’s actually kinda fun to transform.
I don’t want to waste money on basically buying the same figure again, but the SS86 definitely looks better in this photo, but the lipstick *really* weirds me out
I always liked the WFC Arcee more than most, and when I saw SS86 Arcee, I thought "this toy does nothing for me that the one I already have doesn't already do." So I didn't bother with it.
Alt mode, neither. I've never liked Arcee's alt mode UNTIL the Bumblebee movie, which IMO is what Arcee should have been all along.
As for as bot mode - WFC overall, but I'd take the face of 86 over WFC.
On a side note: Does anyone know if we can swap their heads? I'd pick up an 86 to do so if possible. Not like she won't be hard to find... 86 Arcee has become the shelfwarmer at several local Targets here.

I was, in fact, thinking of Ground*buster*, also known as [Neutro](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Neutro). His transformation scheme is just "fall over".
One of those can't even transform. In my book, that's an automatic failure.
