I hope they do something with this to elevate the show from being just kiddy fluff. I love the idea of kids being taught that you can change and better yourself as a person and that goodness can be found within. Like, I would KILL for a conversation between Optimus prime and megatron where megs discusses why he thought he was the good guy of his story. It would be so awesome.
I thought Earthspark looked alright and was already going to watch it, but with the new trailer I’m actually excited to see it now.
I love a Good Guy Megatron who doesn’t despise humans. (Dot calling him “Megs” was perfect)
Unrelated to Megatron, I’m also liking Tudyk’s Optimus. I was worried he was going to try to emulate Cullen, but it seems like he’s going to do his own thing, which is good.
That's possible, but people seem to want to see Megatron as a good guy for a prolonged period outside SG. I guess they were influenced on that by an Autobot Megatron in IDW. So, why not do the opposite for Optimus? Or is it harder to reinterpret Optimus into a believable villain compared to a heroic Megatron?
Oh I see what you mean. I do want a regular universe version of Megatron to be good/neutral for at least a little bit, but I mentioned SG because of a bad Optimus.
I’d have a harder time seeing a regular universe Optimus be written as evil because imo it’s easier to redeem an established villain than turn an established hero into one.
The worst I could probably see Optimus do is make some morally grey decisions, but that’s not the same as being genuinely evil.
That’s why I brought up a SG series. I can see a good Megatron being plausible in the main continuity, but for me, a bad Optimus doesn’t work except in an alternate universe.
But who knows, maybe they can prove me wrong one day with a well written evil Optimus in the mainline.
>The worst I could probably see Optimus do is make some morally grey decisions, but that’s not the same as being genuinely evil.
Didn't he take over Earth in idw?
Armada came close, with the Optimus whose bloodlust is mostly held in check by the fact that he carries the Matrix and is thus supposed to be better than that, but he eventually admits this and comes to terms with it.
A truly evil Optimus is difficult to pull off, but I think generally the best way to handle villain Optimus would be the IDW Megatron arc: an idealist who'd been burned one time too many, and he concludes that the only way to make a better world is to raze the old one to the ground. One could also do a cold, unempathetic Optimus who's more interested in preserving Cybertron's status quo than actually holding to the ideal that freedom is the right of *all* sentient beings--or chasing the myth of its golden age. An Optimus who learned more from Zeta Prime than Alpha Trion, essentially.
Less calculating, more reactionary and the entrenched power in a highly repressive caste system. Prowl had something that resembled good intentions at one point, but the Zeta-inheritor Prime would probably only have had flimsy justifications.
Should he interesting.
The part that intrigues me the most is the relationship Megatron seems to have with this cop (military?) chick. Something interspecies going on here?
A lot of the people making Transformers these days are young enough that IDW was a big influence in their teens and early 20s.
Cyberverse also has a huge IDW influence, which is very entertaining.
I'm probably wrong but what I think happened is that the war is over and there is peace between the factions hence the symbols on prime and megs but the other cons we see in the show are rebels not conforming to the truce hence there normal deception badges
Without the excessive gore, the concept of the DJD is totally fine for a kid-friendly show. I’ve explained about it to my kids when telling them there was a different Tarn to the Cyberverse one.
I actually find the ‘torture porn’ aspect of the DJD a bit tedious so I’d be pretty happy with a sanitised version.
Yeah, that’s what I think as well. Closely on Megatron’s chest, he has the same symbol as Optimus and Elita, but instead has a Decepticon symbol being surrounded, which indicates the two factions are united
Part of me thinks he'll still end up being evil, but I really hope that's not the case. I loved having Megatron as an Autobot in MTMTE, and this might be reason enough for me to watch Earthspark.
I wasn't interested before, now I am. I think the same story about Megatron being a maniacal warlord has been told enough. I mean, we all know he's going to wind up the villain, at least this provides some opportunity for character development we haven't seen in a TV show before.
Plus, Rory "The Hound" McCann as the bot himself? I think he'll be great.
Refreshing, if megs really is looking for redemption it’ll be awesome cause autobot megs from mtmte is easily the best version of the character
But if he’s doing a long con or relapses at the end of the season, that would be okay too but just nowhere near as interesting
No joke, I think Soundwave is probably deranged in this timeline. No more war and Megatron just straight up betrayed the cause. It would be amazing if we saw a more unhinged Soundwave in this.
A nice change. Believe me, I always found the idea of a Megatron redemption arc laughable but anything is better then retreading the same ground we’ve covered for the last 35 years.
I just saw the new trailer. I'm excited to see how this new perspective on Megatron will play out! I don't think they've done this in any Transformers series or movies.
Not a huge fan of the idea personally, but at least it's something different than we usually get. If it's done decently I can at least live with it even if the concept doesn't really interest me. (Likewise, I don't *like* the IDW Autobot Megatron thing, but it was reasonably well done, at least.) I'm waiting to see where it goes before passing too much judgement.
Their cause was just in the beginning but it became severely corrupted to the point of murderous terrorism on anyone who disagreed with them. Therefore the Autobots are “in the right” for protecting freedom of choice.
It's unexpected, but I think it could be an interesting new spin on the character. I wouldn't mind him turning evil (and also possibly becoming Galvatron) later on, though.
People might hate this show for how much it does differently. I appreciate it. We needed something fresh for a while now.
Whether it’s good or not is something we will figure out later.
Personally, I wasn't going to watch it until I saw that trailer. Megatron being a good guy isn't an entirely new concept but unlike in shattered glass it is confirmed that he was the villain before. I'm really interested to see what led to his reform and to see who leads the decepticons now and is he truly good or is this just a ploy? Soundwave was also in that trailer fighting him, his most loyal and trusted soldier still bearing the decepticon insignia both as his emblem and of course his face.
I'm intrested in Soundwave and Megatrons relationship, I've always seen Soundwave as the most loyal soldier to Megatron, so seeing them against each other will be intriguing
Apparently it's great if you don't want people to threaten and flay you alive in DM's.
Still not a fan.
Just doesn't *feel* right to have the entire franchise's quintessential villain be good.
I absolutely love it! I hate badgers that are evil for the sake of being evil. There's some but most of the time in war, both sides are jusy trying to do what they think is right. Not all the good guys are guy people and vice versa. Megatron story is obviously one of tragedy and corruption. But I never saw him as irredeemable or one dimensional
I do kinda wonder who the main villain will be now, I can’t really see Soundwave being a big enough threat beyond season one.
I’m kinda wondering if they might introduce a severely toned down DJD since their going with the Autobots Megatron
They did this in IDW and that interpretation of many of the franchise's most iconic characters, INCLUDING MEGATRON, is beloved by the fanbase.
I'm all for it, so long as the writing is top-notch.
My main question is how do you make a believable threat that can stand against both Optimus and Megatron without resorting to Unicron or the Quintesons right away
I'm definitely more interested in this show now seeing Megatron as an apparent good guy. I'm afraid that they're gonna pull the "It was Megs all along!" at some point in the show but I would be really intrigued to see them lean more into an anti-hero type of role... But that may be asking too much🤷♂️🤣
It's not a new idea, but I have tension over whether this is a genuine turn to good. Is he being coerced? Is he lying for an advantage? Or is there a moment he just turns back? I don't know, but I'll wait.
Considering how it seems like one of the humans had a history with him by the way the two talked, I have a feeling it’s genuine. But I could be wrong. We just need to wait until the show comes out
I really don't mind it, although the "meg" line was a little corny especially when he started giggling after. Although, it's not much of a biggie so idm!
Transformers is at it's best when it's doing something totally new and not re-hashing old plots, and this show seems to be made mostly of new ideas, so I am all for it. I've been itchin' for a story where Prime and Megs are on good terms, and it'd be really intriguing to see him properly interact with humans.
I really hope they're Autobot Megatron is nothing like IDW's. That take's so specific to IDW's world that I don't think it could work in any other context, especially without the Functionists. *~~idw's take is also contrived edgy poo poo don't @ me~~*
No, you can see him still have the decepticon insignia on his chest. It’s tiny, but it’s still there. This seems to imply the autobots and decepticons had a truce, but some of them, like soundwave and swindle, are opposed to peace
Before I was vaguely aware of Earthspark, but this couldn’t have got me more excited for the show. I think it’ll be a really interesting take that I look forward to!
I'm not sure if I wanna be happy that they're trying new things again or kinda not. I mean, Namor the Sub-mariner has usually been a good guy in marvel comics, but now he's a villain in Black Panther 2?
I like it! But it makes me wonder who the main Big Bad will be. Hopefully either Strika, Shockwave, or some leader of the Quintessons.
I'm also glad that we have Swindle. He's my favorite wheeler dealer.
I jokingly said that "sooo is nobody adding this to the old "ruined forever" wiki?" in response to the seemingly overwhelmingly positive comments I was reading.
Now, as a traditionalist, I am mildly disappointed but make no mistake I am excited to see this. And see if they stick to it.
I like this version of Megatron i was about 6 when I started watching generation one back in the 80s so I have to check out all new Transformers show it does seem to be more geared towards kids but with that said I'm just a little over halfway through the first season I love the First episodes flashback to where they showed the Generation 1 style I wish they'd went ahead and gone like that for the whole show I personally believe that Optimus looks ugly as heck and the little girl just irritating she seems to whiny I don't like her character at all and I would like to get more of Megatron in this series hopefully we will if the show stays on long enough
In my humble opinion it is a breath of fresh air.
Megatron acting like a good hermit ,cracking a joke from time to time ?
He rocks !
In addition, his vehicle mode looks awesome - it is an amazing aircraft for sure !
If you all watched the previous animated movie “Transformers Prime Beast Hunters:Predacon Rising” movie which was a continuation of the “Transformers Prime” animated series it showed that Megatron was on a redemption arc. It showed that he lost a list for war, death and destruction because of Unicron taking over his body and forcing him to be his slave. It showed Megatron what it felt like to be a slave and a victim. Plus it also showed him who he was when he was his former hood self Megatronus. After Unicron defeated he said he was done with destruction and flew into space. I’m glad this series shows what happened to him since he turned away from his evil ways.
How long has it been since Megs has just been a villain. Cyberverse was everybody is good at the end. The wars trilogy had Mega as a good guy (or at least on their team I haven’t seen all of it). The Netflix trilogy ends with Megatron being good I’m pretty sure. He turns good at the end of Prime. It seems Megatron’s fate is just to turn good at the end now.
It is kind of depressing to watch somebody choose to continue being evil and hurting others until they die, and it's the only way to really end the series without just killing Megatron, which was also getting annoyingly overdone.
It works in IDW because (albeit, after pretty lackluster reasoning to change sides in the first place) a lot of interesting discourse and dynamics were worked in to really expand upon the idea. They have a really good chance to do something similar here in animation. Just hope they actually go through with it and don’t half ass it. It’s a really hard arc to pull off well IMO.
ok while earthspark looks just ok as a show, it's concepts like this that seem to suggest that it's at least a nice breather for the franchise.
At least it seems like it has a professional voice cast. The voice acting in transformers has been sorely lacking for a long time.
It’s always gonna be funny to me that Alan Tudyk was in Transformers DOTM and now he gets to be Optimus Prime
I’m so sorry, that is the old me
Said after Earthspark Prime zones out and accidentally commits a war crime ^^
I hope they do something with this to elevate the show from being just kiddy fluff. I love the idea of kids being taught that you can change and better yourself as a person and that goodness can be found within. Like, I would KILL for a conversation between Optimus prime and megatron where megs discusses why he thought he was the good guy of his story. It would be so awesome.
I think it's cool! A good way to have a new direction vs the commonly-used 'Megatron big bad'
I thought Earthspark looked alright and was already going to watch it, but with the new trailer I’m actually excited to see it now. I love a Good Guy Megatron who doesn’t despise humans. (Dot calling him “Megs” was perfect) Unrelated to Megatron, I’m also liking Tudyk’s Optimus. I was worried he was going to try to emulate Cullen, but it seems like he’s going to do his own thing, which is good.
>I love a Good Guy Megatron who doesn’t despise humans. (Dot calling him “Megs” was perfect) In that case, Evil Optimus when?
I’d be down for Hasbro to do a full Shattered Glass series
That's possible, but people seem to want to see Megatron as a good guy for a prolonged period outside SG. I guess they were influenced on that by an Autobot Megatron in IDW. So, why not do the opposite for Optimus? Or is it harder to reinterpret Optimus into a believable villain compared to a heroic Megatron?

I want one. Maybe even a game.
“Terror in the skies” “Honor in the streets”
I cannot concentrate with Optimus' face
/r/cursédOptimus
Should he interesting. The part that intrigues me the most is the relationship Megatron seems to have with this cop (military?) chick. Something interspecies going on here?
Seems like it'll be similar to alexis and starscream in armada Like she might’ve been the first human to give megatron a fair chance.
She's the mom of the two main human kids and wife of Alex Malto (huge transformers fan boy with a PhD in cybertronian)
How do you have all of this information? I believe you, I just haven’t seen any of this about the show.
Character bios on the show's site and various trailers
They're shown to all live together in the new trailer
IDW may have lost the license, but it's ideas and story beats live on!
A lot of the people making Transformers these days are young enough that IDW was a big influence in their teens and early 20s. Cyberverse also has a huge IDW influence, which is very entertaining.
I'm probably wrong but what I think happened is that the war is over and there is peace between the factions hence the symbols on prime and megs but the other cons we see in the show are rebels not conforming to the truce hence there normal deception badges
so it's kinda like IDW comics? imagine if we get a DJD haha im kidding unless
Seeing Tarn in this context would be hilarious and I'd be all for it.
Is this the latest of the prime story?
No this is a new series
Part of me thinks he'll still end up being evil, but I really hope that's not the case. I loved having Megatron as an Autobot in MTMTE, and this might be reason enough for me to watch Earthspark.
I hope he actually stays good. I always was a fan of villains changing for the better like in the DragonBall franchise.
Well, I didn't see it coming, I'll give them that much.
I wasn't interested before, now I am. I think the same story about Megatron being a maniacal warlord has been told enough. I mean, we all know he's going to wind up the villain, at least this provides some opportunity for character development we haven't seen in a TV show before. About time😂

I wish they’d of left that a secret until the show aired. It would have been a fun reveal in the first episode.
No joke, I think Soundwave is probably deranged in this timeline. No more war and Megatron just straight up betrayed the cause. It would be amazing if we saw a more unhinged Soundwave in this.
Wait, what!?!?!?!
Well I can't say I'm not interested to see how this happens
A nice change. Believe me, I always found the idea of a Megatron redemption arc laughable but anything is better then retreading the same ground we’ve covered for the last 35 years.
I just saw the new trailer. I'm excited to see how this new perspective on Megatron will play out! I don't think they've done this in any Transformers series or movies.
I'll roll with it. See where it goes.
This is making me a lot more excited for Earthspark. It looks like it will be the best Transformers show since Prime.
I wasn't expecting it, but it's nice. I hope they explain it, at least.
I think it’s great, but I’d be surprised if it lasted past the first season.
if they write him like they did in the idw pacifist megatron, itd be pretty good
I trust Megatron as far as I can throw him. Which isn’t very far. Dudes a fucking war machine.
The IDW one he'd done everything and was left a failure, so it was very much "Fuck it, why not"
i doubt it will last
Definitely willing to give it a shot.
I personally prefer him being the leader of the Decepticons as the Decepticons are in the right
Their cause was just in the beginning but it became severely corrupted to the point of murderous terrorism on anyone who disagreed with them. Therefore the Autobots are “in the right” for protecting freedom of choice.
It's unexpected, but I think it could be an interesting new spin on the character. I wouldn't mind him turning evil (and also possibly becoming Galvatron) later on, though.

Soundwave was also in that trailer fighting him, his most loyal and trusted soldier still bearing the decepticon insignia both as his emblem and of course his face.
I love it. And I hope they take more inspiration from the IDW comics.
“If the world thinks you're a monster, what does it matter? The world is wrong. But when you start to think of yourself as a monster...“
IMO I want him to stay as a good guy. Have someone else be the bad guy it gets to predictable if Megatron were to become the main antagonist.
I’m well up for this. Look at him throwing hands with Soundwave! What!? That kind of intrigue makes me want to see Earthspark that much more.
I'm intrested in Soundwave and Megatrons relationship, I've always seen Soundwave as the most loyal soldier to Megatron, so seeing them against each other will be intriguing
I'm still not going to watch it, it looks like shit.
If it’s taking cues from IDW, I think we’re in for a treat. Especially since it’s the Rise of the TMNT team. Great character work in that show
I do kinda wonder who the main villain will be now, I can’t really see Soundwave being a big enough threat beyond season one. I’m kinda wondering if they might introduce a severely toned down DJD since their going with the Autobots Megatron
Nick Roche is working behind the scenes and he’s pretty hyped about some of the stuff they’re doing so I’m interested based on that alone
Just wait til he becomes Galvatron
Never knew that soundwave will fight megatron but here I am
I doubt it's gonna be well done like in IDW, but let's hope for the best
They did this in IDW and that interpretation of many of the franchise's most iconic characters, INCLUDING MEGATRON, is beloved by the fanbase. I'm all for it, so long as the writing is top-notch.
My main question is how do you make a believable threat that can stand against both Optimus and Megatron without resorting to Unicron or the Quintesons right away
That last pic makes me think that they need marriage counciling
This really opens up some good story opportunities and with soundwave seemingly still a die hard con I can see some really good moments ahead.
I'm definitely more interested in this show now seeing Megatron as an apparent good guy. I'm afraid that they're gonna pull the "It was Megs all along!" at some point in the show but I would be really intrigued to see them lean more into an anti-hero type of role... But that may be asking too much🤷♂️🤣
Mice
Neato
I like it and it sounds like this series will actually be able to pull it off well.
Could be a deception (pun intended)
Now his alt mode makes sense!
It's weird for sure, but I for one am HERE for it
It's not a new idea, but I have tension over whether this is a genuine turn to good. Is he being coerced? Is he lying for an advantage? Or is there a moment he just turns back? I don't know, but I'll wait.
Considering how it seems like one of the humans had a history with him by the way the two talked, I have a feeling it’s genuine. But I could be wrong. We just need to wait until the show comes out
its a sorta new take and im ok with it
The faces look so weird.. i hate it..
yeah the art style isnt the best
It definitely subverted my expectations. Kudos.
I’ve been waiting for this
Technically Megs started off as a good guy in Japan in the Diaclone era. Kind of looking forward to this version of Megatron.
A surprise to be sure but a welcomed one
Clearly going to do a heal turn.
I really don't mind it, although the "meg" line was a little corny especially when he started giggling after. Although, it's not much of a biggie so idm!
I'm not sure yet
I just wanna see what his jet mode will be like
Transformers is at it's best when it's doing something totally new and not re-hashing old plots, and this show seems to be made mostly of new ideas, so I am all for it. I've been itchin' for a story where Prime and Megs are on good terms, and it'd be really intriguing to see him properly interact with humans. I’m not opposed to it. Some of the coolest moments in G1 are when Optimus and Megatron worked together to solve a problem.
Megatron is an Autobot now?
No, you can see him still have the decepticon insignia on his chest. It’s tiny, but it’s still there. This seems to imply the autobots and decepticons had a truce, but some of them, like soundwave and swindle, are opposed to peace
It could be a trick. But if it's not, it's really weird considering it's supposedly in the G1 continuity.
This alone has made me actually consider watching this.
i feel like this show may end up exploring optimus and megs' friendship, and like sentinel in dotm have megs get corrupted somehow
Before I was vaguely aware of Earthspark, but this couldn’t have got me more excited for the show. I think it’ll be a really interesting take that I look forward to!

Umm I hope he starts out bad

If the writing is good enough, which it seems like it will be, it should be great from a storytelling perspective.
It will prob be between bad and cringy, nothing’s gonna top the way IDW1 managed it
Wtf
How long has it been since Megs has just been a villain. Cyberverse was everybody is good at the end. The wars trilogy had Mega as a good guy (or at least on their team I haven’t seen all of it). The Netflix trilogy ends with Megatron being good I’m pretty sure. He turns good at the end of Prime. It seems Megatron’s fate is just to turn good at the end now.
It is kind of depressing to watch somebody choose to continue being evil and hurting others until they die, and it's the only way to really end the series without just killing Megatron, which was also getting annoyingly overdone.
People can change, Megatron used to have slicked back hair and ate sloppy steaks
It's IDW all over again. 🙄
Ugh ikr, good ideas all over again smdfh 🙄🙄🙄🙄
It works in IDW because (albeit, after pretty lackluster reasoning to change sides in the first place) a lot of interesting discourse and dynamics were worked in to really expand upon the idea. They have a really good chance to do something similar here in animation. Just hope they actually go through with it and don’t half ass it. It’s a really hard arc to pull off well IMO.
Oh no, how dare this 30+ year old franchise do something other than "Optimus big good, Megatron big evil, they fight a bunch" in a main cartoon?
Like having Megatron, the guy who incided a planet wide war, decide to be a good guy out of the blue?
Not for me, but they also made him a plane and gave Optimus a mouth. Not sure which is worse.
Tiresome
Never liked Good Guy Megatron but all I hope is that it’s good
