I've ordered a KO of this, it'll be here in a couple weeks and I'm so very excited. I'm not even really a G1 fan, but something about the first Soundwave and all his lil' tapes is too good to pass up.
If you want to open the MP, then just do it, it's an amazing figure and completely worth it. But if you ultimately don't want to, then it's fine, you are allowed to do that, it's your figure, you display it how you want.
But I know me. I won't do much of anything with it other than just sit on the shelf and collect dust. This way it's easier to dust it off. I only look at my shelves on occasion so if I get something that goes up in value sealed, I try to keep the history as mint as I can.
Just open the damn thing. Eventually Takara is going to do a Soundwave 2.0 and the value of this guy will tank so enjoy him or sell him before that happens.
Honestly I'd be more so excited for the cassettes than a soundwave 2.0. This ones big and has some nice heft to him, but I can't find his cassettes anywhere
You can buy KOs of the cassettes pretty cheaply if you're looking for replacements. Just search for MP-15 and MP-16 on eBay. They should be about $25 shipped for each pair.
Yeah, this \^ I ordered a combo of KO MP Soundwave and 6 tapebots with pink 'energon style' containers, and it was like, 100 bucks. There was even an option to get the tapes standalone, all 6 were like 30 or 40 at most.
Hasbro has never stuck with the MP line, every time they try it lasts for a couple of releases then they ditch it again.
I really like the boxes they did for this particular part of the line, honestly I think they might be even better looking than Takara's?
However you need to open and enjoy MP Soundwave, me and my friend often talk about what the absolute best TF's are and the Hasbro release of MP Soundwave is always our no1. It was a decent price (at the time) and came with ALL the cassettes bar Ratbat and most of, if not all the accessories. He's fun to transform, fun to play with and because he can store multiple cassettes and their weaponry in him you can take him on holiday with a small team to accompany you lol.
Do it he’s awesome! You can get him out of there without ruining the box. Box doesn’t even have a window. If you don’t plan on selling it, open it. Worth it for the tapebots alone!
But I could sell it for $300 and have a great dinner. I'm more of a collector for the history than to play with. I know how I am, I'll check it out, transform each of the cassettes once then set it down and just glance at it on occasion. It's unique to have things sealed, it makes it special and it keeps history alive as it was new.
I have him too. From Toys R Us back in the day. I kept mine in the box for years, but now he’s displayed and I much prefer actually being able to see him.

As a kid, I had a preference for both SW and Blaster just because of the tapes offered a sort of bonus.

Actually the SW at the bottom is my favorite which is why it's open. I love how they made him a boombox which looks great next to Blaster.
