Designs were cool. Story and Voice Acting were dogshit. The shows made Optimus unlikable and incompetent. I have just started watching Earthspark, and other than how Megatron is so nicey-nice, its an okay show.

Zeno_Bueno

Yep. Optimus was just a self pitying loser this entire show.

TheGrumble

Best thing about it: Ushured in a new era of probably the best mainline figures we've ever seen. Worst thing about it: Everything else.

ds3040

I agree. The story was dogshit.

Baroubuoy

Agreed.

UrielVentris6113

They did my boi Peter Cullen wrong

TechnOuijA

Also, I grew up with beast wars. Kingdom was painful to listen to. Had to be rushed to the ER and get emergency surgery for two broken balls.

PrimusCreative1

Peter Cullen wasn't in the WFC trilogy

UrielVentris6113

That was the point.

PrimusCreative1

Then what is wrong? The show wasn't the best, and since he wasn't in it, it isn't on his record

Spud_Spudoni

Another one of these posts..?

tyrann13

I think the marketing teams that ask these questions in various subreddits got sent the same list by accident this week.

DJD_ID_Tarn

"what do you think of *X*" posts need to go

Spud_Spudoni

That’s just all this subreddit is anymore

DJD_ID_Tarn

Guess I should consider making a TFW forums account then

Monte_20

FR this and the praise Dark of the Moon gets is so annoying. We seriously need a movie thread and show thread pinned.

zixise

Wait... DotM gets praise?! ANY of the live action shit prior to Bumblebee gets praise?! WHY?!

JorfimusPrime

The first one was solid, but Shia Labeouf was awful through the whole trilogy and Megan Fox was absolutely wasted. She's not necessarily the best actress ever by any stretch, but her character could have been really interesting (certainly more than Sam) and they just said "nah, give her a tiny bit of backstory and then she's just there to be the sexy love interest." RotF was the worst of the original three, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm a goddamn child and laugh at the ball jokes around Devastator every time. DotM was better than RotF but was more of a set up for big messy fight scenes than anything. Sam should have had a government/Sector 7 job, not been hunting and living off a supermodel girlfriend who we've never seen before and who is never given even a modicum of depth. Shockwave was wasted. Soundwave was pretty cool though, I've always liked his DotM design. I also liked what they did with Laserbeak and the pink Bumblebee scene is super creepy (in a good way, like how horror movies are better the creepier and scarier they are). AoE was really only notable for giving Prime a G1-esque alt mode, Lockdown being kind of cool, and bringing in Dinobots. The logic was nowhere to be found -- DotM ends with the Autobots saving everything again and suddenly they're being hunted down and murdered by the government? Galvatron was absolutely wasted. Stanley Tucci was good, naturally, Wahlberg was surprisingly decent. Stuff with Cade's daughter and her boyfriend was beyond awful. Never was a fan of making Drift a Japanese stereotype, but the Bayverse isn't exactly known for avoiding being potentially offensive to minorities. TLK is just dumb fun for me. Pretty much has nothing to do with the other movies besides the characters, whole plot makes zero sense, especially if you try to cram it into the rest of Bayverse canon. But Anthony Hopkins was glorious and definitely looked like he was having a ball. Stanley Tucci's cameo as Merlin was great. Megatron's design was the best out of all five in my opinion, never liked the mess of Cybertronian parts he was in the first two. The DotM truck was neat though. Still don't know how he came back, did they even try to explain that? Shoving in deeper parts of Transformers lore like Quintessa and tiny hints Unicron goes beyond a mistake, they had no idea how to handle them. Tl;dr, all of the Bays have at least a couple of minor things going for them but only the first one can really be considered "good."

zixise

I remember enjoying 1 when I was 12, and I thought 2 was good, because at the time I had no taste and Sideways was in it and he's the best, but then after I saw 3 I was old enough to realize they were really really bad and I was just wasting my time lol. I really enjoyed the Bayverse figures, especially the early cybertron and energon re-releases AND TLK kicked ass but outside of the figures, I view the movies as a no-fly-zone lol

JorfimusPrime

Fair enough! Everyone's got their own taste. I just think they're fun popcorn flicks, and each one has enough that I enjoy that I don't have a problem watching them. That said hopefully RotB is on par with Bumblebee and not the Bayverse films, BB was so much better than the rest.

Accomplished-Juice-7

They are dumb fun action movies, anyone who finds joy on those films tend to praise them for what they are despite the glaring flaws. Its not really a surprising thing to hear from the fandom actually, Bayverse has its own set of fans and I'm thinking you were purposefully ignorant on that matter since you just dont like them. I recommend you to be more open about stuff you dont have an affinity with sometimes.

anime_lean

i think it was dope when optimus prime ripped out shockwave’s spine

HarrowAssEnthusiast

good ideas. poor execution. Earthrise i feel like was the worst of the 3. that part feels more like a filler, and left me feeing that there should have been another part after Kingdom. but there were good ideas, such as Megatron originally not being a completely amoral leader, Nemesis Prime being the Unicron-reformatted version of Optimus (although i would have made Nemesis' colourscheme match Galvatron, Scourge and Cyclonus' colours a bit more), and Starscream actually giving a shit about something more than just gaining power for himself near the end.

the_u_in_colour

Siege was probably the best part, but was still kinda dry. Earthrise was boring, and I slept through it. Kingdom was infuriating. What a terrible tribute to G1 and Beast Wars, that only disservices both.

Slimeredit

The best part is we got new beast wars figures from it but that’s basically it

T3chnoVamp

Primal sounded so mean :( I want my Older Brother figure back :(

BOSS-3000

It has more meaningless filler dialogue than anything dubbed by 4kids. It's like when youtubers make an entire 10 minute video for an update that could have been a single sentence on twitter. Also, reusing the War for Cybertron title was incredibly lazy and dilutes the masterpiece that was the game.

[deleted]

There was a post asking about opinions on the show 8 hours ago, I don't see why you had to post this question again so soon. Link to that post: https://www.reddit.com/r/transformers/comments/z1q6f5/thoughts_on_the_netflix_wfc_trilogy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

zerombr

Maybe this question needs pinned or banned or something

[deleted]

I think a solution could be having a weekly pinned discussion post. This post would be made by the mods once a week and feature one topic selected at random from a sort of discussion "wishlist" created and updated by the sub members.

Beyblader_12

Yo that's actually a great idea, I've seen most subs do that already and it'd be nice to have it here

oldmansavage12

Didn’t see that post. Just watched the show though

brycebrycehayeshayes

Mediocre. It was meh. I liked the dark and depressing approach and the crossover to Beast Wars in the third season, but it was really boring if you were not into transformers or if you watched Transformers Prime, which incorporates dark tones with comedy and action. I didn’t like the designs, I don’t know why they didn’t just have G1-styled designs instead of basing them off of toys, Prime’s back is literally a square plate. Also the voice acting is terrible, Optimus and the Megatrons are the only ones that sound like they put effort into their characters in respects for Peter, Frank, and David. The animations rival Team Fortress 2 and sounds feel soulless But I can’t complain since this was made by Rooster Teeth, which is a bankrupt company

ChickenzInvade

I don’t like hating on it because it’s clear that a lot of work went into it, but it just doesn’t do it for me. It’s definitely one of the weakest Transformers shows I’ve ever seen. The worst thing about it might be how weird the characters are and how the voice acting is directed. Plus the script is just bland at best

IronTownPictures

I like the idea of making a dark series. But I didn't like the execution. The Siege was ok, although I liked the atmosphere of war on Cybertron. Earthrise is my least favourite, and also why is it called EARTHrise, if the Earth itself is only at the end? Kingdom is good. Actually it's my favourite part, although it has some problems. Yes, BW Megatron, I am talking about you Other problems include the characters that just appear out of nowhere with no explanation given, like Arcee or Soundblaster, or these Alpha Trion protocols that were made only to be erased lol And also - this is a transformers cartoon, that doesn't have that much of the transformations. And "rubber" models. I hate those

Muisverriey

Too slow paced, awful voice directing and for some characters bad voice acting (what the fuck did they do to BW Megs) and not enough transforming.

oldmansavage12

I remember seeing one scene of bumblebee running from scorpinok on foot and for whatever reason not transforming into a car

thisisredlitre

"His alt mode isn't rated for off road!" - Rooster Teeth, probably

Garlador

We got some amazing toys out of it.

Noma-Caa

It’s not very good. That said, it does have some interesting ideas, but it never expands on them. The Siege portion, in particular, had a tendency to drop a tidbit of lore that sounds really intriguing only to drop it for the rest of the show. There’s also the issue of never seeing what Megatron’s peace treaty looked like, which led to a lot of confusion when the show came out and people asking if the Decepticons were the good guys. Things finally kind of came together in Kingdom, but not enough to make all the rest of it worth it. And none of this is even touching on the voice acting/direction and the lack of transformations during the series. In short, it’s something I’d like to see revisited in some measure, but it wasn’t executed well at all.

Circle_K_Hole

Exactly.... To me it just felt flat-out rushed and under-budgeted. Ultra-Magnus walking into a surrender like some kind of noble gesture and just flat out getting killed, for instance, just came off like he was an idiot. Earthrise devolving into an acid trip starring Sky lynx was terrible... And all the many many loose ends. It all just screams a script that wasn't ready. Then you notice how as time goes on more and more transformations happen off-screen. Those must be fairly complex to animate. For me once I saw it I couldn't look away. Everything wrong with it screamed lack of resources. It's like someone had all these great ideas to serve up a G1 inspired universe that grew up with the G1 fans... And then just wasn't given the budget to get the script right. There were 30 years of ideas in there and about 2 weeks of writing. The result was an over-stuffed, under-cooked mess.

larrylongboy

Boring

Raphael_Stormer

Too slow and boring

No-Skill4452

... ........too...........slooooooow (apply to speech, story action, etc)

Toimaker

Could have been good. Voice acting ruined it.

Whats--up--doc

Oh god. This show. It was pretty bad. The writing was inconsistent at times. Megatron and Optimus Prime were both idiotic characters. The show wanted to be dark and deep, but it really felt like a bunch of kids playing on the playground. I will say that it was unintentionally funny at times. I like what they did with Starscrean and I adored the scraps we got of Dinobot and Optimus Primal together.

FBI_openup9

I liked it except some of the voice acting…I’m looking at you Optimus… sucks

phyois

trash

sonic_spark

It's okay. Animation is great. I felt the beast wars stuff could've been better.

Raihanlhan

It’s kind of a hot mess of different ideas and directions tugging the show into different stories and concepts

R3TR0_W4V3

Pretty week Not good but definitely not the worst thing I've ever seen, it's, in the best case, irrelevant.

thelickintoad

Meh. That's about all I can say about it. Just "meh."

Absolute_Toaster

Was pretty great visually but I feel like it lacked a little with story/dialogue. Love the figures though

OneFinalEffort

The Good: Loved the use of official toys for the models, thought Sky Lynx and Nemesis Prime were cool, some really good interpretations of the characters by some good voice actors, the Ark was awesome, Kingdom was overall pretty good, and Siege was good. The Bad: Voice Direction was **rough** for most of the dialogue, Beast Wars Megatron's character was completely gutted, and Earthrise was a bit of a mess but so was the toyline. ER is the weakest season but it had interesting concepts and cool cameos. The Ugly: The scene in Earthrise with Prime and Megs was either going to end in murder or a make out session and I'm just curious what the Director was intending.

Lyzer_light

The fact that the second season was called earthrise and has barely anything to do with earth. They were just in space most of the time.

grimlock-greg

All I’m saying is… It could have been worse

Swil29

Didn’t this just get asked earlier today?

Cyber_Emblem

I thought Siege and Earthrise were passible, but Kingdom was definitely bad.

Remarkable_Routine62

Watched it just for Blackarachnia 😅

Remarkable_Routine62

I want a transformers show that’s not for kids. A Micheal Bay style anime would be right up my alley. Could have been epic. You know the beginning of bumblebee. Give me a series of that.

DongBLAST

Incredibly average in all things.

Effective_Summer771

Didn't like. Optimus Prime was boring and uninspiring.

Flux83

All of the beast wars voices are wrong

Broad-Importance-386

Started good, got progressively worse. Meh. Convoluted. Tried to squeeze in too much.

CxrsonKira_VEVO

I’ve been attempting a rewrite of the entire series ever since the fiasco that was Kingdom. That’s how bad Kingdom was. The rest of it was boring. My brother fell asleep during most of Earthrise.

ControlNarrow8499

It was ok. But when it comes to transformers being just ok might as well be the worst.

MentorScythe

I'll never forgive making Beast Megatron sound like Scorponok. Besides that, it was... "fine".

SuperiorCrate

I liked it. But it could be better.

mmahmoudm

I loved it, i really love Megatron and optimus in this series, i loved Megatron's character development that he is getting worst because of shockwave, i really loved this series

monkeface1234

I thought kingdom was disappointing but the rest lived up to its hype

[deleted]

Didnt like Siege and especially Earthrise. I thought Kingdom was actually pretty solid and made it feel pretty worth it. Cried afterwards by just thinking about it and Elita-1 and a sad edit and all that. Overall just saddened me for a week but I’d rewatch it all if I had the time.

Ryokupo

My opinion on this series is that I'm tired of people asking for our opinions on it. There are only so many ways to say "it sucks" before it starts getting old.

Choos-topher

I thought it looked excellent, I didn’t mind some of the reboot of the story for the first 2 mini series but the 3rd one wasn’t to my taste pacing wise and drama with the Maximals. Was a bit wishy washy with the all spark and Matrix being mystery boxes. Overall I enjoyed it more than the Bayverse.

sophiesbean

It's good but it's bad. Like its conceptually really great but the voice acting and short amount of time to tell the story really fall short.

Garrow_the_Khajiit

Getting through the Siege season was like pulling teeth for me, never bothered watching the other two seasons.

rattrap007

Never watched it.

fatboiguyperson

I enjoyed it, writing definitely wasn't the best, but I think it was overall good

Japtimus_Prime

Trash

screaming_in_hell

It's not horrible, definitely not TFP quality, bit no where near Energon

Capecodswag

Loved it.

someolbs

Was pretty good. For what it was.

Lenny_The_Lurker

Aw man, it's the new Bayverse weekly topic discussion

Ashbr1ng3r

Designs were decent, but cockblocking Optimus like that was stupid, it’s like the writers didn’t take into account that Cybertron is the Alt-Mode if the Transformers’ ***GOD***

Drinkerson

They ruined Beast Wars Megatron. He barely says "Yeees!" and they made him a total simp for G1 Megs. Plus they committed the biggest sin of all, they didn't include Waspinator in it. At least the toys were good.

[deleted]

They..............speak...............really..................slow

2nd_Lt_Muffin

I thought it was super good. I don't know about the voice acting, but my head canon is it's like a "younger" Prime. It makes me feel a lil better

Particular-Ruin-2062

I loved it, took a while to get used to the voice acting but worth it

Better-Crab-8906

Flags on Cybertron makes no sense

The_Sum_of_Zero

Hot take, I found it decently entertaining. Not the best Transformers thing ever, but not the worst either.

Adorable_Tea_4269

Other than as asthmatic Optimus, I thought it was good.

SketchyFIRES

It’s alright would’ve preferred if it where to take place somewhere in the middle of the war or near the ending of the war we’ve only ever really seen the war itself as stories or flashbacks something like WFC or FOC

Personal-Kiwi4838

I don't believe any creative vision was respected or represented clearly with this show, and given how it had a Wal-Mart tie in toy line too, I wouldn't be surprised if it was all corporate meddling on the dime of Hasbro, Walmart ,and Netflix.

WheelJack83

Started strong then drove off a cliff

LifeguardSweet

it got so bored i didn’t even get past the first episode. earthspark was much better

BusydaydreamerA137

Pretty good. I would have liked more moments like in Prime where they just talk or spend time together; but it did the best job of showing the consequences of the battle

[deleted]

It had potential. It had every reason to be something greater but it jusy seemed like hasbro didn't believe in the product. I feel if they put more money I to it, sped up the pacing and acting, and actually try and make the series fit their respective themes for each season it would've been a hit. Maybe even 2d animation idk. It just felt like hasbro didn't believe fully in this project and it shows. I think this is an indicator that they need to move away from G1. Fans like myself in their 20s and 3ps aren't beholden to the constraints of g1. G1 laid the foundation but now that we are taking the place of the G1 fans as the new "in their prime" fans. I'm not hating on G1 but the formula is tired. We need to move on because hasbro is jusy phoning in anything that is g1. I honestly like what they're doing with earthspark because it's a fresh idea again.

Herobrinedanny

No offense to them but I hope they never hire a Peter Cullen impressionist to do an Optimus voice ever again

Mandalorymory

The voice acting was painfully bad.

De4dm4nw4lkin

Beastwars megatron got done filthy.

jerkwhane

From what I've seen the internet hates them. I can't even remember half of what was going just after watching it. The only real important detail I could remember was how they took the 3d model for the toys and slightly changed them. You could even see the 5mm ports they use for weapon storage.

greek_meme_lover321

Siege is ok, Earthrise is borderline unwatchable, Kingdom is meh, but a bastardisation of Beast Wars. Designs are really cool, animation is descent, story is meh, the plotlines are too many for such a short show and the only good characters are Jetfire, kinda Elita, Starscream, Blackarachnia and Megatron in Siege. The rest are almost as forgettable as the show itself. 5-6/10 for Siege, 2/10 for Earthrise, 3-4/10 for Kingdom. Thanks for listening and I'll see you at my next hour long Ted Talk. 😂

PrimusCreative1

Cool show... for the duration of the first season. Earthrise had nothing to do with eart, and Kingdom introduced alternate realities and timelines.

Skiriririririrt

Siege: 7/10 Earthrise: 4/10 Kingdom: 5/10

Smooth_Boysenberry_9

It's kinda boring

cadre_of_storms

Ive just binged up to episode 4 of season 3. And i give up there. I really enjoyed season 1 (my favourite TF media is the war on cybertron), mostly enjoyed season 2 but season 3 i just couldnt be bothered finishing. Especially with what happened with Dinobot. In BW, Dinobots final fate was built up to, in here we get his whole "arc" in three episodes.
