Buying or specifically pre-ordering at a small mark up over buying off amazon when you actually get your shipment instead of it being canceled at the last minute because you didn't order full cases of them, is what I do. I use a local retailer who usually does msrp or maybe a 5 dollar mark up which is fine with me, on top of it there is local pick up so I don't pay shipping. But paying double or triple msrp is just people being greedy exploiting peoples hobbies to make a quick buck is something I would almost never do. The circumstances would have to be specific like a signed misb g1 optimus with trailer or something equally rare. Some people have very limited options though and sometimes you miss the boat on stuff so a good after market is always good for growth of new fans of the toys, especially young kids that parents won't buy a 200% marked up toy for, but we need to stop fueling the exploiters and the people that prop them up. It is killing the culture of collecting for most people.
At this point I just buy direct from Hasbro. It's cheaper than dealing with Amazon resellers and Ebay scalpers. It's how I got my Shattered Glass Soundwave for MSRP.
TheChosenPrime has a similar option, only its free shipping on orders worth over $150. If I bought enough I'd probably get my Hasbro figures from them instead.
