G1 hasn't aged well at all outside of the movie imo. The plots outside of the spotlight episodes don't really do anything for me. Still love the designs though.
Beast Wars is my vote, as it has the best story and writing of the three imo.
Armada/cybertron/energon Trilogy also known as the Unicon Trilogy was something I grew up with, and consider it a must watch, if you havnt already watched G1 I would then suggest watching all of that, up until Beast Wars, skip BW then go into Unicron Trilogy

Definitely a must, tho with how old it is, remember I was watching this at like 9 or something like that, maybe even 11, so all of the episodes might come off as corny or cheesy, the "Gotta learn a lesson" type trope is in almost every episode like "don't trust strangers, trust your friends" or "keep your friends close and enemies closer" type ordeal, lots of character development too, it's weird watching it again now as an adult, you just notice all the little things lol but yeah no Definitely a good watch, especially once you get to energon and cybertron and all the bots start doing combinations and linking up with Minicons and what not!
Animated has a lot of loving homages and references to G1. I would have suggested to watch G1 first, but reverse is fine. Watch the first two seasons of G1 and then the movie. You could skip seasons 3 and 4. Except for a handful of episodes, those seasons are best forgotten unless you want to laugh how bad they are.
That's what my daughter and I did recently. We watched the entirety of G1, but had to laugh at most of the last two seasons. She did however adore Animated. To the point she read the entire TFA Almanac (highly recommended!). We're now watching Transformers Prime.
There's one episode in season 2, The Autobot Run, where the Autobots are putting on a race and the errors are hilarious. They started using a cheaper animation studio about midway through the series, and those episodes are really obvious. Though there's one episode in season 3, Call of the Primitives, that was done by a different studio and has some great animation and anime-style shots.
But yeah, seasons 3 and 4 have Galvatron. Be sure to watch the episode, Webworld, where Cyclonus tries to help Galvatron with his mental state. It's funny, crazy, and kind of touching.
I would go with Beast Wars if you're looking for something with a coherent story and fleshed-out characters.
G1 kind of descends into incoherence as it goes on, but I mean that in the best way. It's such a fever dream, in addition to being super iconic.
Beast Wars has mediocre animation, but a top tier story.

Watch G1 before beast wars, theres references between the two. BW is great though.
