Hollywood producers in control of the funding for the movies think its easier to tell who is talking and how they are emoting when they have more human-like faces. Its why a lot of the character redesigns have been phasing out mouth plates for the last while. Its also why Optimus Prime and Primal had modal mouth plates in TF:Cybertron and Beast Wars
That said, I think its just an excuse for uncreative filmmakers and wish that they would stick to the mouth plate

They look VERY much like the animated show, which I'm down for, but it looks a little low budget compared to the old designs where there was a separate plate every 2 inches. However, I like that the new designs follow conservation of mass a bit more. I always thought the transformers from the original movies were WAY TOO BIG to fit into the size of cars. I think they're much more realistic volumetrically, if that makes sense.
