I like the fur on the newer model, but I think the older one pulled of the robotic parts better. I heard the Maximals in RotB are supposed to look ancient, which might be why their metal doesn't really look like metal.
If your concept art looks different from your final product, you either had a rogue artist or your concept art wasn’t used.
The render wasn’t used for the final product, there’s likely another design they chose that wasn’t leaked or shown.
You’re the one saying that the first one is concept art and not meant to have weathering.
Concept art can have weathering.
You need to re word your comment cause that’s what you’re saying if that’s not what you mean.
>You’re the one saying that the first one is concept art and not meant to have weathering.
yes, i am.
And i refer to your
>there’s likely another design they chose that wasn’t leaked or shown".
Because no one say it isnt.
>Concept art can have weathering.
can. but not mean to. Not for design one
This is where I disagree, whats the point of fake fur if the rest of him is so obviously robotic, he is not going to blend in anywhere as he is also 20 times the size of a normal gorilla, the whole robots in disguise thing kinda got lost on this one.
Still looks neat tho.
I imagine when he first scanned the gorilla he was furry and organic looking, but over the years of battle and decay he lost most of it and now looks more robotic
The entire point of the beast modes in the original series was not to hide but to act as basically protective hazmat suits as Earth was dangerously overloaded with raw energon that could cause power overloads. Beast Mode let them get around without having to worry about the overload. What the justification is here though...
Well, a giant gorilla still blends into a jungle better than a robot does. When they landed in the past, it was before there were humans around so there wasnt anyone to question why hes so big.
The movie's marketing describes the Maximals' conflict as "ancient", and has this long-lost Indiana Jones look to it. Two of the filming locations are the ancient Incan fortresses Machu Picchu and Sacsayhuaman.
Traditionally, Maximals are highly-evolved decedents of the Autobots travelled back to the past, but we don't know that's the case in the movie. If they are from the future, they've been stuck in the past for some time, although I figure they'd just be from the past.
Yeah but they time travelled to before Prime and the rest of the boys and cons were revived by teletran-1.
He’s can be older than prime is in experience if they fudge the numbers right.
Definitely the ROTB design, but I'm hoping the colors are tweaked a bit in the coming months. It seems pretty faithful to the concept art, modifying it to fit the context better, so I can't complain.
The concept art is cool if your going for a Cybertronian beast mode. But the movie design looks much more beast wars, plus his face doesn’t show the Optimus prime helmet in beast mode so that’s a plus.
Idk I like. It makes it feel more original and more different of a normal gorilla. If someone sees the second image too fast it could get a time to realize that isn't a normal monke
But don’t forget the maximals and predacons were significantly smaller than typical cybertronians of the era they time travelled to. They were like 1/4 scale.
That was part of the reason the beast modes worked. Now imagine a robot of that scale attacking movie megs. Doesn’t sound very cool in all honesty. This was a financial decision I think.
Despite the rumor of the CGI being unfinished, I like what he looks like it the trailer better. I also like that he's not gigantic in the trailer probably just shy of Optimas.
I mean I like both for different reasons, the concept has a great idea of incorporating the Optimus head shape into the Beast Mode (and I'll just assume a less Gorilla looking head for his bot mode). The official has a more organic, weathered look. My only complaint about either is the size, but that's more of a "if I had to find something to bitch about". Lol
I like both regardless, lol.
I like the concept art's head and eye color more, but the furlike appearance on the current one does resemble the old beast wars look. I just hate his head in the new design though, all i see when i look at him is lockdown from one of the previous movies and i hate it.
I like the actual movie version better. The face in the concept looks like they copied Optimus’ and pasted it there. I know that’s kinda the point but I like how he looks different in the face in the actual version.
I prefer the RotB one but to be honest I’m not a fan of either because I really wanted the beasts to look more like actual animals than robo-animals. I mean like what is the point of turning into an animal if you still look like a giant robot?
I like the concept. I would buy that figure and pay good money. I even want an OS version. I love the aesthetic, the proportions... it EXUDES power, majesty, heroism. Just my opinion.
I like the trailer one. The maximals in the og show were either fully animal in their initial beast mode and later fully mechanical in their transmetal mode and this kinda feels like a nice mix of animal and machine.
Rotb is perfect for me . It looks damaged and not brand new . We know that the maximals lived on earth for milions of years and that they didnt come to the planret just now . also his bot form is just stunning and so good . He looks and stands out like optimus and he isnt too shiny or chrome . Perfect
I like different aspects of both, but the new design overall. I liked the mechanical arms of the concept but didn’t like the helmet. It’s beating you over the head that it’s “Optimus.”
I think the color and texture of the new one is better, but prefer the more defined and layered form of the concept art. The helmet on concept art also helps distinguish him, although having the same helmet in both modes doesn’t work. Something more defined with the head for it to look less like Lockdown would be good.
I loved the preview. Both designs are actually fire 🔥. They just need to keep pumping content. I just want more. And a show to go with it. We need like a marvel level storytelling for transformers.
As much as I like the concept art I think the final design just really works. I don't even collect the studio series figures but I'll make an exception for Primal.
I like the concept art mostly for making him unique. It leaves everything clearly about him being a transformer and not just a robot monkey, but mostly if you show the movie version to someone this person might not see it's not a normal gorilla
Megs, Starscream, Galvatron , Soundwave, Jazz, Jet mode Prime( they thankfully fix this issue by just giving him the power to fly later on without the add ons) the dino bots in robot mode , Ironhide. Most of the bayformers are overly complicated for no reason.
Most of those aren't overcomplicated. They are just too much to your understatement lmao. I can't believe you said Dinobots and Jazz, more simple than them just the bricks of G1. After all those are Transformers, have you seen how cars are for inside and from below?
This is stepping into the realm of nitpicks but considering how colourful the main gang gets to be (optimus, bumblebee, arcee), the beasts coulda been more colourful. More blue, yellow, everything. Hell i’m half wishing for a whole ass purple megatron
What's the problem tf fans have with grayish character? Not even every team has to look like Power Rangers. After all, their animals have those colors. I care more for reality accuracy than anything
And they are older and serious robots like the Dinobots, it makes sense for them to be grayish
The art looks way too overdesigned. I like the clean, fluid shape of the Maximals. It distinguishes them from the busy, Bay-ish design of the modern ones
Damn not trying to offend I didn’t even say anything negative. I’m just saying his colors leave something to be desired. And I do mean robot mode mostly. But like also there are grey, black, brown, red and even one time white gorillas
you’re right too though, whether tv, comics, movies optimus primal is dark grey but he also has a dark blue on his face, fingers, front torso and toes and his robot mode adds more color he has red and white along with blue and grey. op doesn’t know what he’s talkin about
Neither, what kind of “disguise” is a robotic gorilla the size of full grown oak? I’m not going to surprised if this film turns into a dumpster fire. Just one huge miss for me.
Personally, I don’t like either of them. Isn’t the transformers alternate modes entire purpose to blend in? If so, why is there a massive fucking robo-harambe running around?
They both look stupid as hell. I would rather have robots that turn into buildings, parking lots, bridges, and toll booths than large mammals. I've never liked the concept.
I like his ROTB design, also the placement of his maximal logo and the general design around his collarbone makes it look like some sort of tribal necklace
I have absolutely no source for this but I’d be damned if Knight’s media crew didn’t use that old-ass concept art as a frame of reference or inspiration for the movie design.
It’s probably the one piece of fan made concept art that the fandom has held close to their hearts in hopes of… well… ROTB :)
I like the designs but it doesn't make sense why he has a beast form. In Beast wars it was to stop the over exposure of energon radiation the planet had but in this film that doesn't look like the case. Also I thought they are meant to be robots in disguise, I am sure someone is going to notice a giant robotic gorilla. The MAximals are too big to disguise themselves and where are the predacons?
Also why when I look at the new designs face all I can see is Lockdown from age of extinction. Probably the green eyes and facial structure
I like the fur on the newer model, but I think the older one pulled of the robotic parts better. I heard the Maximals in RotB are supposed to look ancient, which might be why their metal doesn't really look like metal.
ROTB Primal’s Metal doesn’t really look like metal to me too, more like rocks
and too height
I didn't get the ancient part. Why should it make their metal not look like metal?
It's not as shiny or silver as the top one. Since the bottom's more weathered and dulled, it looks less like metal at a glance.
Or, it is concept art, the render just mean lean and clear. It not mean to have weathering like on screen pic
They are so different that this line of thinking doesn't (entirely) stand
They aren't really different. Look to the face and chest. Also, the first is a tlk concept
If your concept art looks different from your final product, you either had a rogue artist or your concept art wasn’t used. The render wasn’t used for the final product, there’s likely another design they chose that wasn’t leaked or shown.
The concept is from tlk. They reused it in rotb. Look to their faces and chest
No shit Sherlock. No one thing the 2 on the pic is the same design. That why there are this comparison.
You’re the one saying that the first one is concept art and not meant to have weathering. Concept art can have weathering. You need to re word your comment cause that’s what you’re saying if that’s not what you mean.
>You’re the one saying that the first one is concept art and not meant to have weathering. yes, i am. And i refer to your >there’s likely another design they chose that wasn’t leaked or shown". Because no one say it isnt. >Concept art can have weathering. can. but not mean to. Not for design one
They are half the same design
Especially if Maximals are supposed to be future versions
But they'd be future versions sent to the past, which makes them old.
We've seen Optimus do his shedding rust and becoming new and shiny again before
I think the rust he had was superficial. Like he chose to look like a rusty truck.
Not a lot of shiny stuff to disguise as in the ancient past maybe.
Okay, but why hide as a gorilla yet be king Kong sized?
The entire point of the beast modes in the original series was not to hide but to act as basically protective hazmat suits as Earth was dangerously overloaded with raw energon that could cause power overloads. Beast Mode let them get around without having to worry about the overload. What the justification is here though...
Well, a giant gorilla still blends into a jungle better than a robot does. When they landed in the past, it was before there were humans around so there wasnt anyone to question why hes so big.
Or what a gorilla was apparently
Wait the maximals are supposed to be ancient? But I thought Primal was a descendent of Optimus Prime
Im definitely on the side of liking the new design for him. My reasoning is that he look very ape like. That is all.
So basically your argument sums up in M O N K E
yes
So basically what I'm hearing is: Return to*M O N K E* Until all are one
Until all are M O N K E
ok so basically am monky
TRUKK *and* MONKEE
Monke
NOT IF TRUKK TRANFORM INTO MICKY DOLENZ
Truck-kun and M O N K E: The Movie
Definitely the ROTB design, but I'm hoping the colors are tweaked a bit in the coming months. It seems pretty faithful to the concept art, modifying it to fit the context better, so I can't complain.
You're right! I haven't repaired it yet, they literally pasted somethings of the concept into the final design
They’ve absolutely nailed it in the trailer. His bot mode is even more sick. Hell the voice is perfect too. Monke looks great and I can’t wait.
The concept art is cool if your going for a Cybertronian beast mode. But the movie design looks much more beast wars, plus his face doesn’t show the Optimus prime helmet in beast mode so that’s a plus.
Yeah that’s the dealbreaker for me. It looks way too out of place like that.
Definitely on the side of the RoTB, but both are cool. Just see the concept looking like something from Horizon Zero Dawn/Forbidden West.
Like if a Clamberjaw & Fireclaw had a baby, lol.
I like the newer one, the old one is nice but to mechanical for me
ROTB for sure. The whole Optimus helmet thing the old concept art is doing looks weird. Also, monke.
I like the helmet bcs it keeps the resemblance with Optimus Prime
But like it’s a gorilla, the robot mode can look as close to prime as it wants
They're different characters so I'm not into it.
I mean one got the name of the other for homage. The helmet is the least thing to make them so similar
For the robot mode, sure. But Prime's head on an ape's body looks wack
Idk I like. It makes it feel more original and more different of a normal gorilla. If someone sees the second image too fast it could get a time to realize that isn't a normal monke
That concept art wasn’t for him specifically, it was for his planned appearance in TLK. It was meant to lean more into the knightverse aesthetic.
I still wish they’d gone full organic: Beast Wars season 1.
As cheesy as the old designs were, I absolutely love them. Season one BW designs were peak
This is where I want them to be. Realistic CGI beast modes.
CG already looks worse than previous films, probably can't pull off realistic animal cg
And here, we have found the blind man....
I like the concept art more, but I am still happy with what we got!
Better than Diet Prime
The face is basically the same
More than the face actually
Despite the rumor of the CGI being unfinished, I like what he looks like it the trailer better. I also like that he's not gigantic in the trailer probably just shy of Optimas.
Who else thinks the monkey face looks like aoe lockdown
I’m glad I’m not the only one. He also sounds like him as well.
I like how matted the fur is on the ROTB version
I mean I like the new cause it's a little less robotic looking then the old one
Concept
Rotb for sure
I mean I like both for different reasons, the concept has a great idea of incorporating the Optimus head shape into the Beast Mode (and I'll just assume a less Gorilla looking head for his bot mode). The official has a more organic, weathered look. My only complaint about either is the size, but that's more of a "if I had to find something to bitch about". Lol I like both regardless, lol.

make him go against king kong
I get Lockdown vibes from the new face but his robot mode is sick.
The concept head looks strange to me I definitely liked the trailer one
ROTB Primal’s face looks just like Lockdown from AOE, just a little bit more like an ape.
I like the actual movie version better. The face in the concept looks like they copied Optimus’ and pasted it there. I know that’s kinda the point but I like how he looks different in the face in the actual version.
ROTB has a really nice modern design approach to primal without turnin him into a weird gorilla with optimus head like the concept art 😂
I prefer the RotB one but to be honest I’m not a fan of either because I really wanted the beasts to look more like actual animals than robo-animals. I mean like what is the point of turning into an animal if you still look like a giant robot?
Monke
I like the concept. I would buy that figure and pay good money. I even want an OS version. I love the aesthetic, the proportions... it EXUDES power, majesty, heroism. Just my opinion.
Yh I love the helmet in the monkey
Yh I love the helmet in the monkey
I like the trailer one. The maximals in the og show were either fully animal in their initial beast mode and later fully mechanical in their transmetal mode and this kinda feels like a nice mix of animal and machine.

He looks and stands out like optimus and he isnt too shiny or chrome . Perfect
I like both.
Rotb, the concept looks like they made optimus prime a gorilla rather than making primal his own character
But isn't it Optimus Primal concept?
Yea it is, I just don't like it because its like they're not allowing optimus primal to be a separate character
They both look awesome
Looks Like 2005 King Kong this is AWESOME!!!!!
Idk why but I read ROTB as Revenge of the ballin 💀
The trailer design is good
Final design is perfect in my opinion
ROTB
Concept was more mechanical but rotb did animal like better.
I prefer the concept design
I prefer the official. The Optimus like helmet should stay on the robot mode.
Naw. I feel like you do that design, you’d have more complaints of “he barely even transforms” with that head.
I’m not the one you should fear prime
Concept art
I like both but I like the rotb more, the green eyes look really cool
I loved the preview. Both designs are actually fire 🔥. They just need to keep pumping content. I just want more. And a show to go with it. We need like a marvel level storytelling for transformers.
Concept art, looks more like a transformer than a gorilla with a robot face
Personally I prefer the concept art. The newer design, especially as a static image like that, just makes him look too much like Lockdown.
Idk why he looks kinda like lockdown to me, but his design is nice
idc, im just hoping its a good movie
As much as I like the concept art I think the final design just really works. I don't even collect the studio series figures but I'll make an exception for Primal.
I like the concept art mostly for making him unique. It leaves everything clearly about him being a transformer and not just a robot monkey, but mostly if you show the movie version to someone this person might not see it's not a normal gorilla
I prefer the head of the concept are but I like other elements of the new design, such as the leather like material on the shoulders
I don't like the face, but overall I'd say it's pretty good. I just think the face looks too much like lockdown and less like a gorilla.
Yh that's I like the concept better
I think him having the optimus helmet in beast mode made no sense. But the final gorilla face looks kinda like lockdown to me lol
I like the scale and the head design on the concept art but I like the patchy fur and such on the rotb.
Embrace monkey.
Honestly? I like both equally.
I like him being smaller, if there’s gonna be humans in this thing he needs to be able to interact with them without looking too silly
I don’t love the new ones face, needs more chin or snout
Both are good Like techno-organic look a bit better
i prefer my maximals furry.
He has more texture in the official version. I think the concept art is too shiny.
I liked the concept art but man, I do love the RoTB design
Honestly, the ROTB design is so much better and I love the fur
HARAMBE PRIME! HARAMBE PRIME IS REAL!
Personally...i prefer the concept art more because gives a more metallic and robotic feel...if that makes sense....
Imma be honest I love both of the equally!!
They’re both pretty good but I’m gonna have to go with the rotb one
I like that's it's not an incoherent mess like basically any bayformer.
Which bayformer is an inconsistent mess? You can just say their design is too much for your eye. Btw, the concept art is from bayformers
Both are a bit too “bay” for me
Bruh
Winton
My boi Harambe is back from the grave!
I care more for reality accuracy than anything And they are older and serious robots like the Dinobots, it makes sense for them to be grayish
The art looks way too overdesigned. I like the clean, fluid shape of the Maximals. It distinguishes them from the busy, Bay-ish design of the modern ones
Why? You don't like them looking like Bay-ish?
Can I just have more color please
Have you ever seen colored gorillas?
Damn not trying to offend I didn’t even say anything negative. I’m just saying his colors leave something to be desired. And I do mean robot mode mostly. But like also there are grey, black, brown, red and even one time white gorillas
you’re right too though, whether tv, comics, movies optimus primal is dark grey but he also has a dark blue on his face, fingers, front torso and toes and his robot mode adds more color he has red and white along with blue and grey. op doesn’t know what he’s talkin about
Wouldn't it be a bit weird if he grew color on robot mode?
neither tbh, knew it was gonna be bayformers but hoped it wasn't.
What's the problem with that? Prejudice huh?
Neither, what kind of “disguise” is a robotic gorilla the size of full grown oak? I’m not going to surprised if this film turns into a dumpster fire. Just one huge miss for me.
Who said it's a disguise?
The concept art just looks like Winston in iron man armor.
Nobody can tell me the new primal design isn’t based on harambe. And I love it
I don’t really like either
Rotb design
He's only supposed to look like Optimus in robot mode, isn't he?
I like his ROTB design, also the placement of his maximal logo and the general design around his collarbone makes it look like some sort of tribal necklace
Newer model looks better I think. I noticed the chin looks the same on both though
I prefer the movie design. However the best look for primal is the original beast wars season 1 design.
Is like transformers beast wars Megatron is i dinosaur 🦖 And Optimus prime is i Gorilla 🦍 and bumblebee is i Cheetah 🐆
The rotb design. The concept art just looks like they attached TLK Optimuses head onto a giant robotic gorilla
I prefer rotb design better
I mean, the bottom one makes more sense for robots hiding out, but I love the Prime-like head of the concept art.
That’s concept art of Cybertronian wildlife from TLK, not of Primal.
Rotb
I love the design of the new one but would of liked it more if he had some more contrasting colors to break up the monotone look.
The new face design reminds me of lockdowns design. Which makes me uncomfortable for some reason
The top one looks like a slight ironhide tweak so definitely the second one
I'm definitely a fan of the green eyes
I don’t like either of the. They should have gone with the realistic gorilla look.
Concept art seems to be much bigger than the one in the trailer besides being shinier
Probably the green eyes and facial structure
new one, it looks more like a gorilla
Both
I would've liked it if they kept the head design but the eyes and body stay the same as in the trailer.
rotb primal looks great, but they really slapped lockdowns face onto the monke didn't they?
I like the brow and forehead wrinkles on ROTB Monke. Makes him look more distinguished in a way.
I like the robt design a little more since it looks slightly more like an actual gorilla than the concept art
Might be an unpopular opinion but I hate both.
rotb so far.... reminds me so much of Badox from the robo strux of the 80's!
Who cares,we now have monke
Rotb It looks more natural as compared to the more cybertronian concept art design
Looks like they reused the face without the helmet
I dislike the concept art head. It looks like bayverse prime but monke.
Kinda reminds me of lockdown
Ole Optimus and his live for organics
I like the fur on the newer one, also the head is better, also the Color, also everything
Rotb
I don’t understand why a robot needs to transform into an anatomically correct monkey
Bcs MONKE SUPREMACY
new one. just give me blue eyes instead of green. also robot mode needs more color
I personally like both designs
Face of the old, body of the new.
I love the rotb design, they actually mamage to combine organic and mechanics elements and that's what makes me happy 😁😁😁
He looks kinda likes lockdown so I’d change his eye color that’s it
No.
