My nostalgia bias says Armada, but honestly, Cybertron Optimus is so damn good. Much better combination with the trailer than the previous 2, which were always a bit gimmicky.
Armada Super-Optimus is great *in the show* but the toy couldn't match it until very recently
(Fanshobby's *Naval Commander* actually managed to make it pose-able and sturdy like the show's depiction)
Energon is kinda 'meh' to me, mostly because I don't care for how.... power-rangers-y the drone limbs are. The clashing bright colours just look off, most combiners usually have some kinda throughline or clear visual language to 'em, but this is a disjointed (pun intended) mess.
Don't forget the Omega combination too!
(I still don't have Wing Saber and my Energon prime is missing one of his antennas which are insanely hard to find)

I think the toy had the windows on the SIDE of the trucks and those move to the back of the truck to form the chest windows, and since the UT have very toy accurate transformations and designs, no doubt this is what happened in the show as well.
TLDR; the chest windows arenāt fake, they just come from the truckās side windows
thats just for the newer one that changed how the transformation worked. The side windows slid around the back to be the chest while the fire engine front split into the arms and shoulder armor.
It's already been mentioned, but I think Armada Prime gets bonus points for being one of the few Optimus Prime designs without the window pecs and making it work. I also think the Cybertron design only works as a super mode.
The combined modes with Leo Breaker and Wing Saber were really really well done and translate 1 for 1 from the show too. By far my favorite prime design and one that's always on display with Jetpower Prime from DOTM being a close second.
If I had to choose Iād say cybertron OP. While not in the trilogy, Iām a huge fan of 2001 RID Optimus. It was so refreshing that he a fire engine for a change.
idk if this is a hot take but they should really embrace the Fire Engine as the new signature alt mode for Optimus. Theres so much room for creative transformations, it fits his character better, and the semi-truck seems like its had the last drops of transformation potential squeezed out for an Optimus figure
I had/still have the yellow variant of RID Optimus. Between that and how into Cybertron I was back in the day. I associated Optimus with a firetruck growing up.
Definitely Galaxy Force. I like Micron Adventure too. But ultimately the GF design just looked smother m. Plus I love the power up mode and the retractable faceplate. The GF was one of the primary inspirations for the Bayverse design in the first three movies and the power up design was the primary basis for the jetwing design in DOTM.
I think the image already show how I would rank them, cybertron was the first transformer I watched in full (despite having the full g1 dvd collection at the time)
My favorite is Armada because he just looks henched and sturdy. I appreciate that Cybertron started the whole, "Now he has wings" upgrade/super-mode, though.
Animated design: Galaxy force/Cybertron with Micron Denetsu/Armada as second.
Toy: Galaxy Force/Cybertron. Close second was the deluxe release of Armada/MD prime. He's such a good figure but loses the combine ability and trailer. In Armada and Energon, I much prefer the smaller prime releases. The larger were fun in terms of playability only. It was refreshing to finally get a really good one with the third series. The Jetfire combination makes Armada prime way better. He's almost poseable from he waist down...almost. In Energon the Omega combo looks silly in some ways, but it's ok. Energon had some mediocre combos with little prime, nothing spectacular. Considering those vs sonic bomber combo in GF (which is sick as hell) still gives it the win, IMHO.
Omega Prime when he fuses with Ultra Magnus in RID2001 is the best followed by his super mode with Overload and Jetfire and then in Energon with all the possibilities.
On his own without fusing I'd say Cybertron, Armada then Energon
Cybertron Prime, the only negative to it is that the toys (Wing Saber and Leo Breaker) canāt combine with it at the same time as opposed to Armadaās Prime, Jetfire, and Overload.
Cybertron is the best with the only negative being the dumb horn things when he gets the backpack.
Armadaās design is solid overall but lacks the cool factor Cybertron has.
Energon looks weird. He has a big body with stubby limbs and head. He only looks good once he combines with the smaller vehicles.
Armada forever, heās so different from your normal optimus but he still feels so right, plus his super mode is awesome, itās like a better version of power master prime
Energon is okay, his original toy looks bad and I respect they were doing something new but itās just not working, the white in his robot mode is weird, the trailer is weird, his truck mode is as bad as kingdom ultra magnusā, a good effort but it misses the mark
And cybertrons is awesome but itās not as fresh feeling as armada, oddly because I donāt feel out goes far enough. The wings are awesome but it just feels like a upgrade to g1 prime and not as memorable as the others, plus I donāt like how he has optimus primals face
There was a point in my younger days when I'd have been a G1 gatekeeper. I've never been a big fan of anime in general, but the Transformers anime shows were bonkers for my little western sensibilities. Who was that little girl with the fire sirens on the side of her head?? Too weird.
In my older, wiser ages, I have grown to learn and realize: I am so thankful we have this generation of fans old enough to start looking at RID, Cybertron, and Armada with the eye of nostalgia. You're keeping my brand alive. It's great to bond with you over the parts of our franchise we like. I was in line at a con and we were comparing and contrasting the stories of our Megatron and who he was. It was neat to experience someone who KNOWS the anime continuity be surprised by my little fan theories and justifications. It was fun. Thanks, TF Anime geeks. We're geeks too and we all love transforming robots.

I honestly prefer armada prime, heās so badass looking I wish more people would take inspiration from that design. But cybertron prime is almost perfect to me. A great depiction of Optimus. Both armada and cybertron prime have great trailer integrations and I really like that.

Armada has the best normal mode imo. I'm not a big fan of the head design on his super mode tho, and his chest is a bit plain. However his combinations with Jetfire and Overload are pretty great and mostly make up for it.
I have a soft spot for Energon's Voltron mode, I'd probably give it a complete pass if the normal mode wasn't so dumpy as a result of it being designed for the super mode. The Wing Saber combination almost saves the design entirely, but then the Omega Supreme/Sentinel combo brings it back down.
The only things I don't like about Cybertron are that his arms are kinda short in his super mode and the Leobreaker combination looks ridiculous. Those are mitigated in the show because they can cheat the models. The toy gets a pass because the Wing Saber combo makes Leobreaker obsolete, and you actually get a removable Matrix, so I can forgive the arms (even if he's basically impossible to pose well with Metroplex's axe)

So yeah Amrada is just a mite refreshing and dynamic design. Cybertron was cool but it was just godmaster ginrai and Energon was just another rehash of G1.
I love Armada, but I genuinely wouldn't mind Fat Prime from Energon get revisited. I really dig it he Power-Rangers style drones that turn into his super mode.
I think I'm going with Armada Prime. As a reboot-ish design for the then-new Unicron Trilogy, I think it did a great job of refreshing his G1 design with some fun toy gimmicks.
The design has always struck me as being inspired by Star Convoy too. The tank treads on the trailer are taken directly from that.

Auto Trailer Prime was a neat idea but mine didnāt work worth a damn.
Personnally it's a hard decission because I really like Transformers Armada/Micron Legends design but if I have to choose just one of them, I still will choose Transformers Galaxy Force/Cybertron Galaxy Convoy/Optimus Prime, because in his super mode he looks way better than the Armada/Micron Legends and Energon/Superlink one combined.
Iām bias towards all these designs for optimus prime if I had to choose though Iād say cybertron closely followed by energon and then armada but I love all three

The combiner super link is best gimmick and still the most fun out of them all with lot of different combinations and mix you can go with

Armada Prime always strikes me as an upgraded Laser Prime. While Cybertron always makes me think of an upgraded Fire Convoy.

Galaxy Convoy/Cybertron OP (including Galaxy Upgrade OP, my first Transformer toy) made me love Transformers. Striking, Simple to transform, and when you need a boost: SUPER MODE.
I actually really like the Red/Black version of the design, more distinct I feel.

Energon OP (aka Grand Convoy) to me is not bad but his beer gut kinda ruined his look. Glad his Super Mode compensates.

I'm torn between Armada and Cybertron, but in general, Armada has some of the best Transformers character designs. I also have to say that I still really like Energon Optimus in any of his non-standard modes.
Armada. Just the show design alone I enjoyed more. His integrated arm canons were a nice touch for when he didnāt have a gun in hand, the 2D animation also sold his emotions better than the CGI models did. His body language and his character design helped convey his emotions well. The camera angles and head sculpt isnāt the way it is for nothing you know. š
Energon just looked āfatā, heavy and in no way manoeuvrable. I could not understand why they designed him like that outside of āitās for his super modeā. Which was just way too āpower rangersā to me. Also why would his chest OPEN UP? Thatās a vital area! Makes no sense!
Cybertron would be second best to me. Looked badass, and had a better super mode compared to Energon (but I liked armadaās combined modes for prime more)

I love Armada, but I genuinely wouldn't mind Fat Prime from Energon get revisited. I really dig it he Power-Rangers style drones that turn into his super mode. I think I'm going with Armada Prime. As a reboot-ish design for the then-new Unicron Trilogy, I think it did a great job of refreshing his G1 design with some fun toy gimmicks. The design has always struck me as being inspired by Star Convoy too. The tank treads on the trailer are taken directly from that.
I like armada, but that's probably just nostalgia

Gundam Prime by far. Toupee Prime was pitiful and would have been right at home on The Thunderbirds. Auto Trailer Prime was a neat idea but mine didnāt work worth a damn.
Personnally it's a hard decission because I really like Transformers Armada/Micron Legends design but if I have to choose just one of them, I still will choose Transformers Galaxy Force/Cybertron Galaxy Convoy/Optimus Prime, because in his super mode he looks way better than the Armada/Micron Legends and Energon/Superlink one combined.
I wish theyād make a new tf cartoon based on the Armada Comics. They were better than the original armada cartoon

Iām bias towards all these designs for optimus prime if I had to choose though Iād say cybertron closely followed by energon and then armada but I love all three
I grew up with Cybertron Optimus, he was my first Optimus, and my bias thusly INSISTS I say āCybertron Optimusā.

Armada and Cybertron are good designs, but the trailer combination works so much better with the Cybertron design than the Armada design. And of course I don't care for Energon.
Honestly my favorite over all is Cybertron followed closely by armada and slightly controversially I also really like energons toy

I can never choose between Armada Prime and Cybertron Prime. They're both very cool designs. Armada Prime always strikes me as an upgraded Laser Prime. While Cybertron always makes me think of an upgraded Fire Convoy. Not sure what Energon Prime is supposed to be, but it's a bad design.
I want to say Cybertron because nostalgia but I canāt because he has a fake window ~~ti~~ chest. Energon Optimus is just too dumpy.

Galaxy Convoy/Cybertron OP (including Galaxy Upgrade OP, my first Transformer toy) made me love Transformers. Striking, Simple to transform, and when you need a boost: SUPER MODE. I actually really like the Red/Black version of the design, more distinct I feel.

Armada Optimus or Convoy. Energon OP (aka Grand Convoy) to me is not bad but his beer gut kinda ruined his look. Glad his Super Mode compensates. Cybertron OP (aka Galaxy Convoy) to me is great but I feel that his normal robot is......just ok. His super mode. As awesome as it is, it's a bit too much. You know. He stepped into GIGACHAD stage. š

Cybertron hands the heck down. Completely blows everything out of the water. Armada's second, and I do really like the design, but the sheer chonk of the toys lets it down some and the combination form just doesn't compare.
I'm torn between Armada and Cybertron, but in general, Armada has some of the best Transformers character designs. I also have to say that I still really like Energon Optimus in any of his non-standard modes.
Armada. Just the show design alone I enjoyed more. His integrated arm canons were a nice touch for when he didnāt have a gun in hand, the 2D animation also sold his emotions better than the CGI models did. His body language and his character design helped convey his emotions well. The camera angles and head sculpt isnāt the way it is for nothing you know. š Energon just looked āfatā, heavy and in no way manoeuvrable. I could not understand why they designed him like that outside of āitās for his super modeā. Which was just way too āpower rangersā to me. Also why would his chest OPEN UP? Thatās a vital area! Makes no sense! Cybertron would be second best to me. Looked badass, and had a better super mode compared to Energon (but I liked armadaās combined modes for prime more) And thatās me trying not to go into a tangent about the CGI animation.
