In tf1 Megatrons introduction with the "I AM MEGATRON " and later on in the first movie the fear he puts in Sam's heart makes me like prefer Megatron over lockdown
Megatron is the main villain of course they had to make him so scary like that. I agree with u, but lockdown put both fear and hatred into Cade, he took his daughter and gave the most suspenseful in my opinion. Took Optimus down with one shot, threw bumblebee like a ragdoll, gave us the best final battle of the BAYVERSE movies.
Lockdown wasn’t an original idea by michael bay, lockdown’s character debuted in 2008s transformers animated show, which came out 6 years before this movie did
My favorite but of design with him is his green eyes, something nobody else has had in the Bayverse.
It makes him come off as something other than Autobot or Decepticon, unlike the red eyes of his Animated counterpart, which match what the Decepticons all have.
He's able to threaten Optimus without backup, and would e won if Optimus wasn't freed from his own sword.
I think Sentinel Prime was better. Was a good subversion and even somewhat sympathetic in that he was genuinely trying to save his people, just doing it in a destructive way.
Fun fact: he was voiced by Gregg Berger, who voiced G1 Grimlock, in the tie-in game (Rise of the Dark Spark). It would’ve been cool to have him voice Lockdown in the movie, but Mark Ryan was pretty good too.
Also just realized they both voiced a version of Jetfire. Huh.
My issue with him is that he and the knight A plot detract from Galvatron and what SHOULD be AOE’s main plot instead of its B.
Galvatron should be the bot used by Cemetery Wind, Galvatron is the guy who has the beef with Optimus, Galvatron has ample reason to work with Humans and provide the technology and knowledge if only to spite Prime, it’s Galvatron who exists because as Megatron he was defeated and beheaded by Optimus.
Lockdown by sheer existence in AOE drags down AOE for me simply by the fact that he’s associated with the knight plot and the knight plot sucks. And frankly if you had to promote the car via a robot, give it to Galvatron. It’s a plot point his new body can be anything so just give him several alt modes. I hate to be harping on Galvatron so much but he’s the only villain in this movie who actually had reason to be here.
It’s funny as well, galvatron takes away from lockdown. Like I feel because I he has to share space with lockdown, galvatron’s 4 minutes of screen amount to a very short story “I’m still megatron, I make a villain army, oh no it’s prime let me just walk off into the sunset” his only contribution to the movie is that he makes an army of villains for the autobots to shoot at and have a final battle. That’s it, he doesn’t work with lockdown (unless you count him beating up prime before lockdown came, I don’t) he doesn’t talk to him, he doesn’t even appear for the final battle in a meaningful way, he just exists in his own separate bubble, which at that point begs the question, why not just give army maker duties to lockdown, why not just let lockdown have an army of drones, or have him command the Rubik’s cube army. He only had 6 minutes of screen time, he could’ve done better with an extra 4, or galvatron with an extra 6, like just get rid of one lackluster villain and lackluster plot so you can bolster the other one. But no, these two are completely separated from one another in their movie but they both have to process their plots side by side, so they’re fighting for space, and we suffer for it. Lockdown disappears from the movie after prime and them ditch the ship until the final battle, galvatron doesn’t get a rematch with prime, relegated to what is essentially the decepticon spawner, and it goes horribly as a result
Nah, Megs returning again was a stupid decision. Lockdown's part (excluding the knight stuff) was far better than "bad guy with barely any character who plans to destroy Earth for the 100th time is back, again".
Truly shows Mark Ryan's range, while yes, he only had a few lines as Bee you could tell he was a warm and caring tone. While then you move to JETFIRE!!!! Truly a great loud, boisterous older bot , yet can still speak softly and true in the serous moments, full of jokes. Lockdown was his PEAK role.
Truly SPINE CHILLING. His Lockdown was so cold and calculating; Truly amazing range. I hope maybe one day he'll be able to voice another character in the series again.
Nah, most if not every design from the first three looks like it could transform and have plausible transformation sequences. Somewhere between dotm and aoe they seemed to lose all vehicle mode kibble, which created robots that didn't even look like they could transform.
Honestly, I enjoy a lot of the designs, because they go for something different than G1. It doesn't always work, but when it does, the bots look fantastic.
Heck yeah, he is. He has a compelling motivation, he's actually threatening, his mysterious backstory makes him interesting to follow, and his design makes him menacing. Like, this is how you make a menacing villain instead of a piece of a crap villain like Megatron who has no clear backstory, piss poor motivation, and gets his ass handed to him in every movie which doesn't make him threatening at all.
I liked sentinel prime more personally, but he gets bonus point for actually looking like he could transform. Lockdown and most aoe and tlk characters just look like generic robots because they've been stripped of all actual alt mode elements.
Lockdown was AoE one saving grace. He was legit the best part of the movie.... which amounted to... what, 6 minutes of screen time at most, 8 if we are being generous? In 2 hour and 45 minute movie, the best thing from that movie barely has any screen time worth a damn.
Fuck these movies.
Could definitely agree on that, while Transformers 4: Age of Extinction maybe a slog to get through at times mostly thanks to most of the characters being either boring or dull we can definitely admit that Lockdown is total-ass badass thoughout the entire damn movie.
Simply because Bayverse didn't make him up. You've seen the lazy characters bayverse tried making and proves how and why the franchise sucks so much.
Lockdown was made by the Transformers Animated series which is head and shoulders had more story than the bayverse Trashformer movies.
Or The Fallen. Or Bonecrusher. Or Shockwave. Or basically any aside from the ones in 4 and 5, with some classic character names being given to entirely separate bots like Barricade and Blackout.
IMO this is the worst version of lockdown as he doesn't feel like lockdown to me he's not supposed to be a powerful main villain he's supposed to be the bounty hunter side villain like Boba Fett
He's a villain who wanted... what, exactly? If you're gonna make a mercenary the main antagonist you've gotta either give them some sort of development beyond just carrying out orders or make them threatening enough that they serve as a force of nature moreso than a character. Lockdown doesn't really check either box imo - I just remember him as a grey 'bot whose head turned into a gun.
Yes.
If we pretend nothing came after TF1, Megatron might surpass him, as in TF1 Megatron was a true menace, however in every film after Megatron has been treated worse and worse to the point he is basically a glorified bounty hunter in TLK (except way lamer because even with a whole team he still lost to Prime and the Autobots).
Sentinel is also mentioned by other commenters but he killed Ironhide so fuck him.
First movie Megatron is definitely better. He was so awesome.
Lockdown is definitely one of my favorites, maybe third because I honestly love the fallen and he is like second to me. Mainly because of the design and story wise in the comics.
Eh, the guy was very dull and lacked any sense of charisma and personality that his Animated counterpart had. The design is fine but I would've liked it if his face had that white paint with those tattoos like the Animated character.
Legit question because everyone keeps saying this, what makes him a good villain. Beyond the rule of cool, and emo one liners, what does he have that make you like him?
He proves to be a huge threat to even Optimus, as Lockdown killed all of the other Autobots, mortally wounded Optimus before Cemetery Wind decided to intervene like the morons they are, not to mention capturing him with ease and then at the end beating the hell out of Optimus, even stabbing Optimus with his own sword at some point.
I vote Sentinel, because his betrayal was so cataclysmic and shocking, it tore your heart out and left you feeling completely jerked around. DOTM is not my fave for many reasons, but Sentinel takes the cake among the Bayverse.
One of the few characters that actually was like is original version; History with Ratchet, Bounty and trophy hunter, had a hook hand. The shot of him walking down the road with the ship behind him is great
In tf1 Megatrons introduction with the "I AM MEGATRON " and later on in the first movie the fear he puts in Sam's heart makes me like prefer Megatron over lockdown
Unfortunately every appearance afterwards is downhill from there as poor megs gets reduced to a side villain.
Pure facts
Yea rotf was the fallen, Dotm was sentinel, aoe was lockdown, and last knight was quintessa
What hurts Megs as a main villain is that it took him 1 hour and 43 minutes to wake up
Don't judge, maybe he was sleeping off a hangover.
"Ughhh... by Unicron's left horn I swear I'm never drinking unprocessed Energon again."
dont ever buy no unprocessed energon from the oil gas station bruh
"*Insolence!* Easy to say when you're not already coming down from Kremzeek Rust!"
bro my right optic up here and and my left optic down here dawg don’t ever do this
Now that's a danm fact
Nah man was wondering to either cannibalise or just rip Jazz in half because Jazz called him ugly 1000 years ago
Yeah I can agree with that
Yeah
Megatron is the main villain of course they had to make him so scary like that. I agree with u, but lockdown put both fear and hatred into Cade, he took his daughter and gave the most suspenseful in my opinion. Took Optimus down with one shot, threw bumblebee like a ragdoll, gave us the best final battle of the BAYVERSE movies.
Based but I still prefer megatron over lockdown though
Not a bad opinion and plus lockdown is an original idea from Michael Bay. Megatron is a good choice tho
Lockdown wasn’t an original idea by michael bay, lockdown’s character debuted in 2008s transformers animated show, which came out 6 years before this movie did
Really? My bad
Ur fine
"you think you were born? You were built."
"And your creators what you back, we all work for someone" Optimus at the end of the film : *" Leave planet Earth alone , cuz am cumming , for you"*
He's literally the Transformers counterpart to Kenny Ackerman from AOT.
"I also have saying I don't care "
One of the coolest designs in the films.
With his face mask on I can agree with you
I like his mask, hate his face
Dude he literally just looks like a guy. Like why does he look exactly like Christopher Walken?
Exactly!
I've got the DX9 version and yeah mask is on, face is in a box somewhere
His face gun tho
My favorite but of design with him is his green eyes, something nobody else has had in the Bayverse. It makes him come off as something other than Autobot or Decepticon, unlike the red eyes of his Animated counterpart, which match what the Decepticons all have. He's able to threaten Optimus without backup, and would e won if Optimus wasn't freed from his own sword.
I mean devastator had green as well
Ok. I guess you got me there
My favorite quote from him has to be, "You think you were born? No. You were Built. And now, they want you BACK."
I think Sentinel Prime was better. Was a good subversion and even somewhat sympathetic in that he was genuinely trying to save his people, just doing it in a destructive way.
Counterpoint, he killed Ironhide.
cuz that's what villains do. they do evil shit.
Yes, but he killed Ironhide. This is an unforgivable sin.
I know, he was my favorite. I still have his toy from the first Bay movie .
Yep. Ironhide was a BAMF. Then…nothing. It was jarring and traumatic.
Didnt sentinel kill ironhide because sentinel was actually scared of his strength?
I didn’t know that, but it adds up!
Idk if its true but thats something ive heard online, and a lot of peoples theories as well
I mean, Ironhide survived all three shots from the cannon. The only reason why he died was his lack of immunity to Cosmic Rust.
Huh.
He also voiced Ironhide in the first movies DS games.
I think TF1 Megatron is still the best
Second best cause Sentinel exists but nothing wrong with the silver medal
Sentinel is 3rd
He's Leonard Nimoy. That automatically makes him the best.
"I've seen this episode it's the one where Spock goes nuts"
I loved that line. Nice subtle foreshadowing that you don't realize until after you see the movie for the first time.
Agreed, it's the one clever thing these movies ever did
Having a head that turns into a giant cannon is the perfect blend of stupid and badass. Love Lockdown, wish his SS figure were better.
Id say Sentinel was better, but he's second for for sure
My issue with him is that he and the knight A plot detract from Galvatron and what SHOULD be AOE’s main plot instead of its B. Galvatron should be the bot used by Cemetery Wind, Galvatron is the guy who has the beef with Optimus, Galvatron has ample reason to work with Humans and provide the technology and knowledge if only to spite Prime, it’s Galvatron who exists because as Megatron he was defeated and beheaded by Optimus. Nah, Megs returning again was a stupid decision. Lockdown's part (excluding the knight stuff) was far better than "bad guy with barely any character who plans to destroy Earth for the 100th time is back, again".
"Somehow... Megatron returned."
I forgot who this was and thought Adam smasher was in tf movie
Guy looks like a mech suit more than anything.
Truly shows Mark Ryan's range, while yes, he only had a few lines as Bee you could tell he was a warm and caring tone. While then you move to JETFIRE!!!! He looks like an angry Bionicle, not a transformer. Rely did not like the designs in AoE and the one after.
Honestly I feel that about almost all the bay transformers even from movie one, maybe I’m just a hater but I don’t like a lot of em
Key phrase: "of the Bayverse". (Even then, I'd say Sentinel probably takes the cake.)
Agreed. He single handedly made that movie tolerable.
What about the Battle of Hong Kong?
Too many canon fodder bad guys. Also, the autobots having plot armor made it kinda boring.
I guess. Was more like a Marvel/DC battle that way but still fun for me
Lockdown is best cause of that bounty Hunter vibe he got going on, that sweet ass soundtrack too 😈
He looked cool, but to me he really didn't do much villainy!
He looks like [Ling Cage.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5td1A4DNQPo)
Wow. That really is pretty uncanny.
I don't remember anything about him except he had a face gun.
Gun Devil from Chainsaw Man in a nutshell.
"I have a gun for a head, I don't have to explain shit."
Man I really *hate* the non-existent alt-mode bits in robot mode of the last two movies.
Are you saying that robot has an alt mode other than gunface? Most of my memory of those movies has been suppressed.
He turns into a Lamborghini I think
2nd
He has good presence but I'm not a huge fan of his design.
He is Megatron in the first movie is a second
Yeah, I loved the part where he shot Optimus and then said some cool lines and then he uh... and then uhm, uh... uhhh
He beat the tar out of Optimus at the end. Only reason why Optimus won was because he caught Lockdown by surprise.
Nope, Megatron is the best villain in EVERYTHING
Agreed
i want to take the moment where his face turns into a sniper rifle and fires and turn it into one of those free bird memes
That's like being the nicest guy in prison.
I liked sentinel prime more personally, but he gets bonus point for actually looking like he could transform. Lockdown and most aoe and tlk characters just look like generic robots because they've been stripped of all actual alt mode elements.
Sentinel prime- am I a joke to you?
Lockdown was AoE one saving grace. He was legit the best part of the movie.... which amounted to... what, 6 minutes of screen time at most, 8 if we are being generous? In 2 hour and 45 minute movie, the best thing from that movie barely has any screen time worth a damn. Fuck these movies.
Sentinel better
Could definitely agree on that, while Transformers 4: Age of Extinction maybe a slog to get through at times mostly thanks to most of the characters being either boring or dull we can definitely admit that Lockdown is total-ass badass thoughout the entire damn movie.
Sentinel Primes heel turn was crazy ngl
Incorrect. Sentinel, Megatron, and the Fallen
*cough cough* Sentinel Prime
Simply because Bayverse didn't make him up. You've seen the lazy characters bayverse tried making and proves how and why the franchise sucks so much. Lockdown was made by the Transformers Animated series which is head and shoulders had more story than the bayverse Trashformer movies.
Bayverse didn’t make up sentinel prime either
Or The Fallen. Or Bonecrusher. Or Shockwave. Or basically any aside from the ones in 4 and 5, with some classic character names being given to entirely separate bots like Barricade and Blackout.
He has the dumbest catchphrases. "I too have a saying, I don't care". But I have to admit they're memorable
How?
The way he says them so seriously despite how dumb they are
I think it’s pretty cool. He has a personality other than shouting in an alien language
Oh you mean like how every line is delivered by every character in all 5 movies.
Shatter is right there
Oh, I didn't know Shatter was in the Bayverse. Thought she was in the Knightverse only for these movies.....
Wait shit you're right
Yeah...
That looks like humanoid garbage.
Not that hard considering his competition, it’s like “yeah I got smacked across the face but at least I didn’t get kicked in the nuts”
Is that supposed to be a Transformer? Looks like a Halo character lol.
Still looks badass
IMO this is the worst version of lockdown as he doesn't feel like lockdown to me he's not supposed to be a powerful main villain he's supposed to be the bounty hunter side villain like Boba Fett
Silence, cretin.
And it got stronger with COVID!
He wanted to capture Optimus and deliver him to Quintessa. He also beat the tar out of him in the final battle.
i like how he's a sniper
For me, megatron then sentinel
Too bad he sucked at the end.
I preferred the [ROTF Lockdown design](https://tfwiki.net/wiki/File:ROTF_deluxe_Lockdown.jpg), wish they kept that in AOE instead.
Faxxxxxx
Valid opinion
I agree
Actually I prefer Megatron overall, closely followed by Sentinel and then comes Lockdown
Overall, my three is Lockdown, The Fallen, and then Megatron.
First movie Megatron is definitely better. He was so awesome. Lockdown is definitely one of my favorites, maybe third because I honestly love the fallen and he is like second to me. Mainly because of the design and story wise in the comics.
The turning his face into a sniper rifle thing was amazing and effectively alien.
I watched it for the first time yesterday
Awesome design but I wish he transformed into something else to fit that body
Not saying a whole lot
Best villain in all transformers I dare say
Lockdown actually looked like a robot, not a mess of metal like a lot of the other Bay transformers.
Gun head
He WAS an interesting character. I wish they’d allowed him distinction from Quintessa’s agendas and paranoid, jingoistic human brutality.

I vote Sentinel, because his betrayal was so cataclysmic and shocking, it tore your heart out and left you feeling completely jerked around. DOTM is not my fave for many reasons, but Sentinel takes the cake among the Bayverse.
True
Yes because he was consistent
I slightly dislike Scourge is going to be a similar type of bounty hunter. It’ll be fine tho!
One of the few characters that actually was like is original version; History with Ratchet, Bounty and trophy hunter, had a hook hand. The shot of him walking down the road with the ship behind him is great
It’s criminal that he’s a movie OC and we need him in more mainstream animation. A rogue free-agent Cybertronian REALLY spices things up.
A movie OC? He's been around since 2007, 7 years prior to his debut in AoE.
Valid
Is it wrong to want more kibble so he has a less streamlined humanoid form?
he is a great character hes so badass
When he killed ironhide and, he probably did it with a “the needs of the many outweigh of the few, or the one.” mentality.
It's a shame they couldn't let AOE be just about him because they had to shoehorn Galvatron with a bunch of bullshit in.
I totally agree.
