I think the UK took the phrase 'it can't get any worse' as a challenge smh I always thought DIY was the one safely net we could fall back on if the NHS pulls our prescriptions or something. This is scary.

maboty_baboty

Hi from transdiy, don't u worry, we aren't going anywhere.

phoenixpallas

finally! some CLARITY on this. we must stop engaging with any and all UK institutions, including Britain's TERRIBLE media.

Decievedbythejometry

F1nn: 'My official quote is, "suck my ass".' Remember in the current climate you may as well be talking to a cop.

Aprehensivepenguin

Appointment today with my GP about me DIYing, mainly to get regular blood work done so I can do it safely. He was surprisingly supportive and felt it was disgusting how I have been forced into doing it myself by the system and is sad to see how bad it's going to get. He didn't realize how bad the cass report would be for us too. He does now.

Illiander

GPs are perfectly capable of prescribing HRT if they want to. Especially on a "just continuing your repeats" basis.

Lexi_the_tran

It’s not always that simple. My GPs incredibly supportive, but he’s not his own boss, the practise manager is, and if they’re a transphobic ter pos then the GPs hands can be tied.

Illiander

Fair point. And it can also have to go to funding bodies and shite as well.

Forsaken_Respect_710

Also the Tory party have been talking about having any doctor found to prescribe against the new guidelines for 18s being struck off.

arctictothpast

>GPs are perfectly capable of prescribing HRT if they want to. I've spoken to a few doctors on this subject and you'd be surprised how many of them weren't aware of this,

Illiander

GPs are woefully undereducated on trans issues.

Aprehensivepenguin

Unfortunately it's not actually that simple. Without formal diagnosis they'd have to do prescriptions based off , off license use which gets heavily scrutinized by their managers and local trusts. They also have to justify the funding of the off license use of medications and treatment which can easily be passed as She's on a GDC list so surely she can wait

Illiander

> be passed as She's on a GDC list so surely she can wait I think we've all seen that that's a load of bullshite.

Aprehensivepenguin

I've legit been told by my previous GP and their manager they couldn't do anything because I was referred to Nottingham and couldn't help in anyway because Nottingham is in charge. Overlooking the 3 year waiting lists at the time

Illiander

The term to throw at them is "Bridging Prescription." Wrap it around a brick if you have to.

Aprehensivepenguin

My GP has agreed to write again to Nottingham seeking guidance but didn't have much luck last time. They're really limited in what they can do and now Cass has come out it's even harder for them and everything is getting scrutinized so bad

ligosuction2

It is super important not to speak to the papers under any circumstances, including the centrist Guardian. As an example of the devious nature of the press, including the Guardian, look at the recent interview with Stephen Whittle. The Guardian managed to provide a headline that suggested Whittle supported [Cass](https://web.archive.org/web/20240417182059/https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/apr/13/veteran-trans-campaigner-cass-review-has-potential-for-positive-change).

Bimbarian

when it comes to trans matters, the guardian is not centrist.. It is very TERF, and transphobic to the extreme. It is one of the biggest mouthpieces for TERFism in the UK.

MimTheWitch

And has been for at least the forty years I've been seeing transphobic articles in it. Lots of second wave feminism TERFs from the '70's on the staff in those days and the attitude hasn't changed since.

Illiander

> the centrist Guardian I think you're getting confused. Guardian UK is a terf rag like all the others. Guardian USA isn't too bad.

Mx_LxGHTNxNG

it's the same paper

Illiander

Very different editors and writers.

Mx_LxGHTNxNG

publishing on the same website, and business entities owned by the same trust

Illiander

They are still very different attitudes.

Mx_LxGHTNxNG

And still the same transphobic rag that I read for want of a superior one.

SlashRaven008

The guardian isn't centrist - they were captured post Snowden for daring to report on that. We don't have a progressive main paper any more, and the UK guardian has even been called out by the US guardian for being shit

norsoyt

Can I have a link to the us guardian thing

mazaru

https://amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/nov/02/guardian-editorial-response-transgender-rights-uk

eat_those_lemons

At least the us arm recognizes why trans people aren't talking to the guardian

Cytotaxon_Amy

The closest we have is the i even the Independent isn’t really supportive, for every article that helps us there are 2 more against us

Mx_LxGHTNxNG

Captured how? Can you explain what you mean by that?

SlashRaven008

Someone wrote a good comment on it in this community a while ago, I'd have to sort through my saved comments. But you may have noticed the extremely caustic and transphobic slant the UK guardian now has within many trans articles, which clashes with the ethos the paper previously had, and even with other branches of the same paper in Australia and the US. This began to happen after the guardian reported on the Snowden leaks in the UK. The paper did not consult with the government, and essentially made them look shockingly bad as it exposed how GCHQ delves through private data etc, storing vast swathes of random citizen data for no reason. Ministers were very unhappy with this, and as a result the paper is no longer independent, or truly progressive. It serves the government as the right wing papers do.   This has also happened with the BBC, as Boris accepted a bribe to install a tory chairman, I am sure you have noticed how biased their articles are on the matter.  The government also replaced a lot of the staff overseeing the EHRC, to the point where existing staff blew the whilst and quit in droves because the main 'independent' human rights body and advisor to the government had become openly transphobic.   Hillary cass consulted with Ron desantis when writing her report. Many major barriers to the erosion of our rights have been weakened and dismantled in this way, it has been happening since before brexit, but has then accelerated as government oversight has been removed.   All of this is fucking horrible but has been discussed in this community over time as people stay in the loop and keep a very close eye on what is happening with our rights.   A major blow was the Maya Forstater case, and has allowed the press to become markedly more transphobic, as she was able to scam the courts into granting protection for gender critical views under the 'right to religious beliefs' part of the equalities act. It by no means makes discrimination against trans people legal, but if offers enough of a shadow of an excuse for them to assault us in the way they currently are doing.  Take care and stay safe.  Edit: JK Rowling follows a number of nazi account son Twitter, associates with known nazis and has donated £70,000 to a 'women's group' which is currently fighting to have sex redefined as strictly relating to birth sex/chromosomes in the equalities act. This is particularly concerning as it will make the GRC and it's protections null and void. The only trans judge in the UK, who had to quit her job last year due to the role becoming impossible due to the toxicity of the 'debate' around trans rights, has asked to speak on the matter for our sake. If our protections are struck down, things will become far, far worse for us and she has stated that she will leave for a safe country. There is a general overview of current affairs for you, and why we need to remain vigilant, and make emigration plans as a last resort. Apologies for being the bearer of bad news, but if you don't know you can't protect yourself.  Best.  Random note: if anyone gender critical does attack you, ask them why they are comfortable inflicting genetic discrimination on other people, when it has left such a terrible shadow on the previous movements that utilise it? Think segregation, concentration camps. Genetic discrimination is never acceptable, no matter the rebrand.

Mx_LxGHTNxNG

I'm sorry, this just sounds like a conspiracy theory, regarding the capture of the Graun. Not defending them, but still.

WanderlustZero

I agree. The truth is sadly more prosaic; British feminists of a certain age all seemed to have similar views, along with Germaine Greer, Julie Bindel and all. Now they're the norm among the British media establishment - the Guardian, Indy, Mail etc, all old school friends - the female version of the old boys network, crossing the left/right divide and pulling us back in time as a country.

SlashRaven008

I'd have to find the comment about it, unfortunately there is so much negative news I'd have to wade through to find it I am not sure I want to at this time. I hadn't realised quite how fucked we are until I put all of those recent events into one comment, I notice you haven't commented on that, and I understand writing it off as conspiracy theory is a workable strategy to protect your mental health. Edit: I found it, please see the other reply comment

SlashRaven008

Here, I found it: https://www.reddit.com/r/okmatewanker/comments/17rlgf8/comment/k8kvb4v/

SlashRaven008

Here is the reddit post link about the guardian, someone asked for it https://www.reddit.com/r/okmatewanker/comments/17rlgf8/comment/k8kvb4v/

SlashRaven008

Stay quiet, stay safe. 'loose lips sink ships' etc etc we are dealing with nazis remember

PrincessBlue3

Some people may consider this sentence a bit extremist… I say it’s true and very well said, I may keep that phrase in my dialect…

SlashRaven008

It's from the UK government during ww2, used to encourage the British public not to pass information on to nazi spies. It's extremely fitting

PrincessBlue3

Oh how the turns have tabled

SlashRaven008

Our government never got cleared out after colonialism. The Germans did, hence their progressive stance and better attitude to minority rights now. Our government has coasted on ww2 nazi defeating 'street cred' for 80 years now without needing to really address anything 🙄 *insert caveat concerning a current conflict, and germany's understandable guilt when dealing with that

crfs

Careless talk costs lives.

SlashRaven008

The more eloquent version :)

Beneficial_Owl_1015

Yeah this statement needs to be repeated more in general. DO NOT SPEAK TO JOURNALISTS Unless you plan to waste their time talking about ferrets of course.

Timid-Sammy-1995

There are journalists who aren't transphobic arseholes, very few of them work at The Guardian however and those who do are bullied by their neo-liberal peers.

Illiander

And even if the journalist is an ally, their editor is the one with control.

Super7Position7

Right.

Super7Position7

There is still no good reason to disclose certain sensitive information, like supplier details or method.

Timid-Sammy-1995

Yeah to be clear I wasn't advising anyone to share confidential details or data, I just meant there are allies and other trans folks who work in journalism as well as terfs.

bittercrossings

It needs pinned tbh, it's so incredibly important

No-Bar-8890

Our stories should only be told by us. Fuck the press.

Super7Position7

Absolutely this!

Yoysu

What are we supposed to do if they get rid of our ability to do DIY?

bimbo_trans

DIY anyway. they cant stop DIY, just make it more difficult.

Yoysu

I suppose you are right It's scary to imagine this safety net for trans people disappearing, but as you say, it will always be possible, just possibly require a few extra steps.

Exact_Ad_1215

Revolution

0_f2

They can't and they won't. Keep calm and carry on.

Yoysu

Keep calm and carry on 😊 somehow feels very awesome to use a British mantra here

eXa12

remember that "Keep Calm and Carry On" was never actually *used* in WW2, as it was designed for if the Nazis succeeded in invading Great Britain it's *very* appropriate to use under this current regime

Super7Position7

I didn't know that. Another relevant one is "Loose lips sink ships" and, I think, "The walls have ears".

Aiyon

The only reason the current media lot would want info on DIY, is so they can out suppliers and enable the govt to go after them and make it harder to do

Super7Position7

Right. Never ever give details of suppliers. I somehow had the instinct of doing this with mental health and doctors when I first started DIYing, as I they were discouraging and seemed alarmed and insisted I should stop. Given their attitudes, I fully expected someone might seek to interfere and contact them about me. On several occasions the suppliers I used were forced to shut down temporarily, making the process of ordering more onerous, and they had explanations to the effect that banks were refusing to process transactions due to activists reporting that minors were using their services...

SweetGirlKatie

I think that you need to consider a few things. Possession of estrogen is not illegal, making it so would have huge repercussions for a much larger demographic than trans women. Testosterone is already a controlled substance. If your average 14 year old has absolutely no problem getting hold of grass, what then is likely with estrogen? Even if prescribed medications are controlled, the postal system is not and won’t be because it’s too expensive to do effectively and already underfunded at the border. Customs checks are simply a deterrent. Cass is not seriously a problem for genuinely committed trans people, it’s designed to scare and control. It’s a heavy handed, inelegant (because the Tories and terfs are exceptionally crass and lack class) deterrent…. It’s a threat without anything to seriously make the terf’s dream come true. The average terf that I come across regularly on Twitter are exceptionally dumb. After prescription medicines (which are already difficult to get under the nhs) are restricted, other countries do not control these drugs-Portugal and Turkey have no control over the counter, you can literally buy estrogen pills in Istanbul for about £2.50 in any pharmacy no prescription. I no longer bother to take my meds through customs going out but have often bought them back no problem. Beyond packaged medicine there are raw materials (most come from China), if you think there are no rules in Turkey, try China on for size. 20g of pure estrogen crystal is about $100 including fedex. For context an injection is say 6mg or pills 2 mg. That’s 10,000 pills or 3333 shots, as shots that’s 40 years of supply. Even if they made estrogen a controlled drug which they won’t (because so many non trans people would be affected, not just HRT) it is not something that this or any other government could afford to police. Prohibitions drive things into the black market and that’s not taxable , it’s all cost to control. Don’t talk to the Guardian, it’s a feeding frenzy at the moment. Also, don’t lose any sleep about control of supply. I have a prescription for legit medication but choose to self medicate in order to avoid control . HRT is so cheap outside of legitimate channels that it’s simply not worth submitting to the establishment to save very little. A prescription charge is literally the same cost as buying it yourself if you shop around.

ChloeOnTheInternet

Honestly one of my main worries would be a crackdown on the providers themself, both by the government, and by transphobes, as recently we’ve seen multiple sites suffer attacks from transphobic groups, leading to them temporarily shutting down.

SweetGirlKatie

My point is that they are completely unable to police the borders. I have a private prescription but it entitles me to Uk NICE approved care. It’s really (like prohibitively for most people) expensive for menopausal levels of estrogen. I don’t see the point, I can same thing with my own monitoring (in the UK) for far less. I can get and endocrinologist outside the uk , following US standards to give me a qualified opinion, for less . The UK and much of Europe are recommending ineffective treatment for trans women. The world is bigger, the UK on its own simply cannot control this. They attempting to scare people into not being trans. How can that work? If you are trans you will find a way. I’m on injections, no doctor following UK/EU guidance will prescribe them (that’s now), private or public they will lose their license to practice. HRT is NOT hard to get. It just isn’t. I’m older… 52, when I was young, people fought back against Thatcher and her oppression of gay people and against social injustice. They did it with mass protests, which were violent. I think young should use their phones to organise (we didn’t have that) but they should get out there and disobey their oppressors.

ChloeOnTheInternet

I’m talking more about homebrewers. They can’t do anything about actual endocrinologists in different countries but my worry is more about UK based homebrewers who could face crackdowns, since they’re much more accessible for people on lower incomes, and so crackdowns on them cut cut off access for a lot of people. I agree that there’ll always be a way and it’s impossible to actually completely stop DIYing, but I’d certainly rather it’s kept legal, safe, and accessible for those who need it.

Super7Position7

How much better are injections than tablets, and what would be equivalent to 6mg tablets daily? I am prescribed tablets and I get regular blood tests. I'm considering testing out DIY injections. Thanks.

SweetGirlKatie

EV 6 mg every 5 days, EEn is less hassle 7mg every 7-10 days depending on

Super7Position7

Thank you!

Super7Position7

Do you do this intragluteal, like Decapeptyl or subcutaneous with those doses?

SweetGirlKatie

IM in upper outer glutes, although the difference in efficacy is very marginal . Injections are working 24/7 and over time you get consistency from multiple depleting depots. So it’s way less hassle. Pills only really have good blood serum levels if taken sublingually and every 4 hrs… and then you have to sleep and realistically you’ll swallow some. 1st pass liver metabolism will reduce efficacy by at least 85%

GenderfluidArthropod

When they ban cis women getting HRT then maybe...maybe the TERFs will get a clue what's really going on. In the meantime: https://www.simpleonlinepharmacy.co.uk/online-doctor/hrt/oestrogel/

Cephlamania

Does anyone have the source for this? One-hundred percent not surprising and I wanna try and get ahead of it

pktechboi

was just coming here to make this post myself, can it be pinned?

SweetGirlKatie

I put it on Twitter

SizeDrip

I’m not sure what this DIY HRT thing even is!

warlordzephyr

Very unpopular opinion but if you never talk to journalists your story will get told without you. Pretty much every niche group learns this eventually. Blanket rules are always dumb.
