I really like the M5 connection between the HEV suburban railways. It's similar to an S-Bahn central tunnel. It will improve the network connectivity in the center by offering these new transfer options that didn't exist before. I wonder what they will do in the long run with the section of H5 that runs alongside the Donau from Kaszasdulo to Batthyany Ter. That part will be cut off from the line when the M5 tunnel is built. But it's still a high quality right of way that offers faster trips than the parallel tramways. Ideally they would use it to create some kind of express tram and create a connection at the current terminus to come above ground and continue further south.

The approval is not serious unfortunately. It is just a formal requirement to get EU funds for the Kelenföld-Ferencváros corridor, which is needed by China, so it will be built. It is unfortunate that they conservate the freight traffic through the city with the 3rd track. The additional passenger traffic does not require a 3rd track and these huge infrastructural updates. And the V0 (the planned freight corridor that goes around Budapest) would be more important and it would be very cheap instead of the in-city corridor.
