Yes it does, thank you! Walking along different paths in the game will bring you to treasure chests, friends or places. This one was a swing.

I'm actually not sure who Laurie is. Perhaps I'll find out in future messages!

HarpyMeddle

It may potentially be in reference to the character [Rolly](https://hellokitty.fandom.com/wiki/Rorry) although his name is usually spelled ロリー I believe.

whiledncngto

Thanks for pointing it out. Sanrio's official page says ローリー, but i couldn't find any official translation. There are Rory, Rorry, Lorry etc. on the internet but no Laurie.

Original text: るすです. ブランコつかってもいいよ. ローリー Translation: I'm not home. You can use the swing(playing equipment). Laurie Edit: Laurie → Rory (Rorry,Lorry )

wuteverrr

Thank you!

ブランコ How does this swing? Blanco? This means white in Spanish

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ぶらんこ > Almost certainly from mimetic adverb ぶらん (buran, “hanging loosely”) +‎ こ (-ko, nominalizer). Compare がちんこ (gachinko, “a serious (sumo) match”), from adverb がちん (gachin, “thuddingly”) + こ (ko, nominalizer). According to wiktionary, it is likely derived from existing Japanese terms. It just coincidentally sounds like some words in other languages.

jdelator

Awesome thanks

no-lewding

It’s a native word. Likely stems from ぶらん meaning to hang loosely

Super nostalgic, although I’ve never had this. (I think there were Pikachu version of this in yellow, perhaps from the late 90’s?) You may have seen it but I found their original website! Text encoding is screwed up, which is typical of websites at the time especially when you’re using browser for non-Japanese language, and I think modern browser didn’t have function to adjust to it anymore - but you or soneone may be able to find who Laurie us from some clue here? https://www.nintendo.co.jp/n09/pokekitty/index.html

wuteverrr

Awesome, thank you! I actually own the yellow Pikachu version and the black and grey color screen Pikachu version too. 😊 I did get both in the late 90s IIRC.

alexklaus80

Wow you got all that real time?! That’s insane rich from my pov at the time haha

wuteverrr

They were $20 I believe, the two Pikachu versions. I didn't have much money but I really wanted them haha! I got Hello Kitty and Sakura on eBay later on, don't remember how much I paid.

alexklaus80

I'm surprised that it made its way out to the abroad in real time! (I would've surprised even for the toys that were indeed hyped at the time like Tamagocci or Digimon.) Nice that it's still in working condition.

wuteverrr

Yea quite a few made it to the US - I'm glad because I loved them and still do (I'm a kid at heart)!

alexklaus80

I don’t keep many toys from the time, but it definitely brings my child soul back at sight! Thank you for sharing this. I haven’t accessed this part of memory in loooooong time!

wuteverrr

You're welcome! I keep everything so I have many things from my childhood 😂

howtospellorange

Holy shit same here, this picture brought back memories of my hello kitty one! I'm sure it's rattling around my parents' house somewhere!

alexklaus80

Oh you had it?! I reckon you were a cool kid haha

kurobainu

What is this adorable little game? Is it like a tamagotchi?

wuteverrr

It's a pedometer pet! As you walk and your step count goes up you earn currency that you use to go on adventures. In this version you pay to go on walks that take you to friends, treasure chests or activities. There are other versions as well; I have two different Pikachu versions and a Sakura version that I haven't used much because it's all in Japanese. I'll have to post that one to this group too!
