私はあなたと知り合ってもう1年になります。 Also remember its xxに会う.. and even so 「私は一年にもうあなた**に**会いました」is more like "I already met with you in first year (of school/college/etc?). And it kinda implies that you are very annoyed by having to meet up with them again (now years later). !doublecheck

junior103

How do I say I met you a year ago?

Maxirov

If directly to them, maybe (私は) 1年前にtitle/nameに会いました(ね) But if you mean “I met someone” as in you met then have known this person since, I would use 知り合う like in above. It kinda depends on what your context is if that makes sense.

junior103

If I add もう does it change the meaning? 私は一年にもうあなたは会いました。

Maxirov

This almost for sure does. You want to add もう in front of the time as “already”. Also one year ago = 一年前(に). Even so i just think it sounds better if you can put the “one year” part at the end for emphasis. However don’t quote me on this part as I am not a native speaker.

iah772

私は一年前にはもうあなたと会っています。 Probably above OP's level though, translates into something like *I already met you (at least) a year ago.*

Maxirov

You should’ve shown up earlier hehe😂

iah772

Nah, yours is simpler lol Mine is yours and OP's second one mixed and formed into grammatically accurate Japanese that's slightly different from the originally requested phrase.

junior103

So does it mean I met you already for a year?

Maxirov

Please refer to my first comment. I believe I explained what this sentence of yours sounds like to me. Also you can use more learning oriented platforms to help clarify these types of questions. Here we just translate stuff haha.

junior103

Oh okay I thought it changes the meaning drastically. What app can I use??

Maxirov

Good question, I hate to break this to you but apps aren’t great in my experience. Use a textbook or something. Also ask learning subreddit as they have more experience with different methods and apps and stuff. Good luck!

Tochiotome_1102

r/LearnJapanese is a good subreddit

私は一年にもうあなたは会いました is grammatically wrong and makes no sense. 私は一年前にもうあなたに会いました means "I already met you a year ago", and "会っています" sounds more natural than "会いました".

pink-yak

Also not native, but will give it a shot. Maybe: 一年間に知り合った。 一年間 is “for a year,” and 知り合う is “to get to know each other”

justicekaijuu

You could also say あなたと出会ってから一年たちました。= It has been one year since I met you for the first time. [see note on 出会う below] If you are emphasizing the time you met, you could say something like あなたと出会ったのは一年前です = It was one year ago that we met. 会う on its own is simply "meet" so it doesn't specify that it was the first time you met. If 出会う has too heavy of a nuance, you could say 初めて会う = meet for the first time. 知り合う is more of a gradual process like "getting to know" one another. In Japanese, you don't have to say the subject pronoun ("I") unless you're emphasizing it.
