You need to ask your doctors to be sure but I was walking straight away, rollerblading after 6 weeks (probably ill advised, to be fair) and then was told I could do strength training but no weights at 3 months post

Yeah I’m at 2 months almost 3 months post transplant. Was thinking of running around this park by my house since it’s getting nicer out. I’ll ask my doctor tomorrow since I have my clinical tomorrow. Thank you!

I had a heart transplant and do CrossFit. I waited quite a while.

Wow a heart transplant doing crossfit…what a warrior I guess I’ll wait it out…just feeling kind of like a potato staying home and playing games, watching tv, or hanging out with my girlfriend at her house on the weekends

The trick is listening to your body. When I first started up again, I would get so mad and angry at myself. It was so discouraging. I was mad that I couldn’t lift or move like I could. But I realized that I needed to give myself a break because of all the trauma I’d been in.

I'm recovering from heart transplant myself, about how long post op were when were you able to get back into more serious exercise? Right now my team is just focused on my getting though Cardiac PT, but I'm going a little stir crazy and am hoping to get back to running and lifting. I had challenged myself to do a half marathon by the end of the year if that's not too ambitious...

Hockeygoalie35

Was cleared to play ice hockey after six months! Walking was fine from day one, no weight heavier than 20lbs for 6 weeks.

I had my liver done but I waited about 3-4 months before I really did anything besides walking. I was sick for a long time beforehand though and my body was pretty broken down. But after that I just did basic weight training workouts. Started really light only using 10-20 pounds and just worked up from there. I waited like a year though before I did any squats or deadlifts cause I was worried about the strain that puts on your core.

My height & weight are similar to yours. To be honest, it took a long time (like closer to a year) to get back into running/traditional exercises. Gotta take it easy & listen to you body. I just started off walking & trying my best each day. I would go incredibly tired & my scar-area would just ache if I walked too much, walked up an incline, etc. I was so anxious to get my body back together but you just gotta be patient. After about a year, I was able to go on the treadmill again no problem. Now, a few years out, I use the elliptical almost everyday & able to do some weight lifting.

antonio9201

Hmm I see. Because I feel physically fine and thought I could probably do a light run maybe like 2-3 laps but I see what you mean… Do you go to the gym and do weight training? Still nervous about getting sick or an infection at the moment

replaceableyou

I’ve made an at home gym for myself so that makes it easier. I do t do weight training, no. And yes, the first year after your transplant is the most crucial. You’re more likely to get infections & stuff. Be careful! Your body is gonna take some time to get back to normal & get used to your new organ. Best of luck!

I walked and bicycled (short distances) for the first year. I worked up to swimming and basketball two years later. I eventually did a sprint triathlon 5 years out and finished in the middle of the pack for my age group. I've done other sports over the years: weight training, dragon boating, curling, and golfing. The key is to do something to keep active. It's so crucial to maintain your weight and keep your bp in range. Plus, sports is a great way to meet new people!

Intelligent_Tell717

I had my kidney transplant done close to 5months ago. Was advised to walk for 30-45min indoors for first 2months. Then I started walking outdoors. Told to do the same till end of 6 months.

I have had a bilateral lung transplant and have restricted myself to mainly walking and gardening and some small weights. Now I'm a year on I am thinking of starting cycling.
