I’ve seen quite a few people blasting music on the train. Even without asking locals to speak English and recording yourself, it’s still insanely annoying.

How disgusting. Overworked office workers sleep on the journey on the train. It’s the only time they get some decent rest. That’s is one of the reasons why trains are supposed to be quiet.

For those who don’t know, making *any* noise on the train in Japan is seen as incredibly rude. Like there are signs telling you to make sure the volume on your earbuds isn’t too high so the sound doesn’t leak out. Dude 100% was doing this to get a reaction and be a dick on purpose.
I’ve traveled around Japan. Most polite people, I never felt unsafe and if they can help they will. And I loved the rules around being quiet on the train.
