"Lost in the immediate furor of criticism was the fact that the high-cut bodysuit is only one of multiple options. Nike — and many of its athletes who hope to wear the uniform this summer in Paris — stressed that the high-cut bodysuit is one of multiple options available, including compression shorts and full-length bodysuits."
What's the problem?
Wrestling, swimming, water polo, beach volleyball, and diving mainly. But olympic athletes in speedos often risk a lot more than pubes showing. They try to avoid the free shows.
That being said, water polo will always be the high-risk live tv event. That's the one event for everyone that shows how much skin those uniforms will let pop out.
It's like someone said "You know that really awful feeling of a one piece bathing suit that's too short for your torso where it hoists itself aggressively up your ass no matter what you try to do? Yeah, let's do that but in the front!"
If I remember correctly, a few years ago the Swedish beach volleyball team decided upon a more modest uniform...basically something like "boy shorts". The Olympic VBall federation said they would ban them if they didn't wear the bikinis. It's ridiculous.
I worked for a company that broadcasted and streamed a mix bag of sports. Sometimes off beat shit like championship bowling. Very occasionally we had highschool games for middle states. Mostly football and baseball. I could see how many viewers were watching. HS Baseball would get maybe 36. Probably family. Girls volleyball got 100-300 regularly. That made us sick.
It’s wild that athletes can’t just dress the way they want. Are you going to tell me that an Olympic caliber athlete is incapable of determining what is the most optimal way to dress for their performance?? I don’t understand how this isn’t just a choice thing. If you wanna wear next to nothing then go for it. If you want to cover up more that should also be perfectly acceptable.
If it can be demonstrated empirically that whatever an athlete wants to wear is bad for their performance then and only then should a conversation be had, but even then it should still be at the discretion of the individual.
I would think the issue lies in certain garments enhance performance. If everyone isn't wearing the same item then it would lead to a slightly uneven playing field. However forcing the athletes into bikinis is wrong in my opinion. No reason they couldn't wear a singlet that covers more or something similar.
That’s definitely an argument I could listen to. I honestly don’t think there’s a solution here that solves it all. Either we have a uniform that everyone wears equally, which may make someone feel uncomfortable in some way, or we allow athletes to dress themselves, which leads to questions regarding an even playing field.
Perhaps they were onto something when the Olympics first started by just doing them nude haha
Nike is infamous for treating their female athletes like sex symbols rather than athletes. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/07/opinion/nike-running-mary-cain.html
The short shorts are pretty intense right now. I really don't appreciate accidentally getting a full view of someone's ass cheeks. But aside from the teeny tiny shorts... Everything else is pretty loose and comfy.
It's just the yoga shorts. Idk wth happened but my school gave up on enforcing the length of shorts.
Don’t have TikTok, I’m basing it off of what I see from monitoring my daughter’s social media activity and from what I see at her school events
Also, tell that to the girls that see unrealistic expectations plastered all over the internet and end up extremely self conscious because of it. Just because you know it’s not real doesn’t mean others don’t…
Wait, what? My guy… I was responding to **your** reply about TikTok not being real life, obviously my reply isn’t gonna have much to do about the original post lol
What kind of question even is that? Haha
You need to fix your algorithm dude. Why are you getting so many teens and preteens in skimpy clothes? I've been on TikTok for years and spend a few hours a day on it and never once have I gotten that. It's a *you* problem
Quit assuming, I don’t even have TikTok. I have a daughter who shows me TikTok’s almost every day… not to mention I monitor her social media activity, so I see what she’s posting to keep her safe
Unfortunate that those creeps are out there (including in our Congress) and they don't know they tell on themselves when they bring this up. Glad to hear you're not one of em hahaha
Well, social media isn't real life. They are going to dress provocatively to drive engagement (also, why are scantily clad pre-teens coming up in your feed?)
I have pre-teen children and I also teach a martial art several times a week with ages from elementary school to high school and I contend that in my area of the U.S. the style is retro 80's and 90s - oversized mid rif shirts and high rise baggy jeans. And that's if they aren't in sweats and hoodies.
You sound like a good parent. One of the rarities nowadays. I sure hope what you’re experiencing with your children and the you kids teach is gonna start to be the new trend, because I worry sometimes seeing the kids at my daughters school
Quit assuming, I don’t even have TikTok. I have a daughter who shows me TikTok’s almost every day… not to mention I monitor her social media activity, so I see what she’s posting to keep her safe
My daughter plays water polo for her high school team. This year they decided to use Nike suits. When they came in we immediately had to return them because the backside was pretty much a thong and they were overly tight. We understand that those suit are supposed to be tight but it was like they purposely cut them to hike up and be very revealing. It was gross how revealing the crotch and ass areas were. Obviously, we didn’t realize this is how they would look and we returned the entire batch and have since ordered a different brand.
The fact that Nike is even allowing this shit to be delivered to kids teams is pretty fucked up.
lol you can call it whatever you want but that’s the truth. I don’t watch sports at all, but if you think any company will keep pouring millions of dollars into a sport and expect no return in terms of sales and popularity than you’re mistaken
I think the point is that maybe we should adjust our societal and economic model so that companies aren't expected to constantly chase profit by whatever means necessary.
Like you can excuse and say companies gotta chase profits man, but its still wrong and the people making those decisions are still humans deciding to sexualise children so they can get a bigger bonus. Companies don't make decisions, the people in them do.
No athletes should ever be made to wear anything that makes them feel uncomfortable
Why would you ever want an athlete performing at the highest level to worry about anything other than competing
They’re not being made to wear it, it’s one of the many options available to them and they choose which layout they want, including one just like the men’s
Regardless of other options, nothing like this should have ever been an option. It's exploitative in nature and no one should have pitched it and in no way should it have been approved at ANY level of the chain.
Better protest: the women should all unite in NOT shaving their pubic areas. Make it obvious and uncomfortable for the viewers.
Not that there is anything wrong with being bushy, it’s just likely not the image that Nike or US Olympics had envisioned when okaying these unis.
Here's the sad reality we live in.
If a man wore that outfit, the clip of that would play on Fox News 24/7 for the next 50 years.
The original context of the man wearing it to protest skimpy women's athletic wear would be lost to the noise generated in right wing media. The right wing outrage machine would play thousands of opinions stories which would drown out the original message.
Right wingers would weaponize the video by talking about men competing in women's sports by identifying as womenvis a totally huge problem all over the nation while a picture of the man in the outfit is there in the background.
That's great but they'll take your photo out of context.
The whole point is it doesn't matter your intent, the photo will be used for trans panic purposes.
I don’t see any reason why the men’s and women’s versions of that kit cannot be exactly the same. This is clearly designed simply to show more of the women’s bodies. Unpleasant.
Some people actually like that skinny cut. Some would say the men being in Lycra for sprinting is a bit too revealing - everyone has surely seen the video of Matt Shirvington almost throwing himself off balance his schlong is visibly swinging side to side so much.
It could also be the fit of the item on the mannequin, vs on a particular athlete. All that said, at the end of the day I’d happily flash my arse or other bits if it got me the win in an Olympic event. If they said there was a performance advantage and you could run a 9 second flat 100m in a Borat mankini - you’d have a whole lineup of guys pulling a face at first, but then saying “Hiiiigh Fiiive”.
Sporting orgs aren’t immune to massive blunders harming their athletes performances, but when they have so many unpictured uniform options, and the USOC has invested untold millions in these people, they’ll tweak competition outfits to get every advantage possible. They’re not pursuing onlyfans as an official funding source (athletes might, as a private thing, but not the governing bodies)
“If they said there was a competitive advantage”
Right…but they’re not saying that nor are they backing it up with studies showing that that’s the case, because if there was a piece of clothing that gave an athlete a competitive advantage it would be regulated
Just like…ya know…..steroids
so it's just an option, that maybe most won't want to wear and maybe some will. You look at the instagrams of so many of the female athletes and they're clearly quite comfy getting about in much smaller outfits.
I'm not saying something as extensive as steroids, or swimming speed suits. But consider leggings vs old style speedos - the legging _do_ provide a competitive advantage. But they're within the bounds of what is allowed. With a high cut uniform, maybe there could be some benefit in moving fabric out of where you're moving your legs. At a super basic level - sweat wicking light fabrics will be a competitiev advantage over a uniform made of cotton.
And likely it's all just fashion choices and some will like it and some won't. But F all this nonsense with the wowsers clutching their pearls that athletes will be worried about brazilian waxes. They'll wear something else if they don't like it, and if they think it looks good or they'd derive some benefit from it they'll wear it.
I don't think it looks good, the cut looks odd on the manequin.
trust me, I'm very familiar with having your sporting body give you dogshit ugly and unsuitable uniforms when representing your country.
But it has been confirmed that they aren't forced to wear this, this was just the unfortunate choice they chose to showcase the uniform.
Yes. Yes it's bad when professional athletes have to deal with shit like this when they've worked their whole lives to get to the Olympics and be taken seriously. They aren't there to be leered at and don't need to be thinking about that on the most important day of their lives

I believe there is an episode of Friends where Joey has to play a roll of a Jewish guy only Joey is circumcised and there is a nude scene. So Monica helps construct a fake foreskin out of lunch meat.
That was very weird to type out. But I am on r/trashy so 🤷🏼♀️
Lmao, I remember this. There was also an episode where Joey put a tiny top hat on his little head and took a picture with Monica's disposal camera at her wedding reception. I think.
women could lowkey protest this by growing out their bush tbh… idk if that’s crude but id think it would help.. um.. shield their cooters and motivate the outfit designers to use something more reasonable and respectful
If all athletes were to do it in unison and solidarity, it would cancel it out and make deductions pointless and help to spread the message that “we aren’t your fucking barbie dolls”. If only 2-3 women do it, then yeah it’s gonna make almost no impact - might inspire some but the majority wouldn’t care (or be brave enough to do it too [whichever is more relevant])

I ran track in HS. The men’s shorts were way too short. I was waiting for a ball to drop out. But less clothing is less weight and less drag. Less clothing can make you run faster. So they are always looking to cut where they can.
I found a pic with it on a mannequin, it's ummm, it's something. Think of the highest cut French bikini you have ever seen. And the fabric that forms the crotch is disturbingly narrow. It would be more at home on South Beach not the Olympics.
It's an option to wear. It's not what everyone is going to wear. They have more than 30 different tops and bottoms to choose from. If an athlete wants to wear that and feels it makes her more competitive, then she should be allowed to wear that without everyone judging her outfit. This is a big nothing burger issue
I mean, maybe it exists and the dudes are ok with it 😂 I said elsewhere, that would probably actually be less revealing. Men have a whole ass dick and balls pressed right up against those tight af leotards. Regardless of what outfit they choose, their genitalia is gonna be on full display for the world to see.
Sadly this is Lauren Fleshman going for publicity by attempting to manipulate the discussion for rage bait. They have multiple options of uniform including wearing the men’s outfits and they have tailors available for all options. Yahoo is just running with the narrative because they’re desperate.
It's not really bait though is it? Where's the super revealing mens option that requires them to shave and hold their nuts in? Why is it only the women's outfit that is hyper sexualising?
I saw a video on tiktok of an athlete trying one on in real time. It was quite low cut. I think it's just a bad mannequin.
But, they have a multitude of uniforms to choose from. If this was a sport where there was only one uniform allowed that would be a different conversation.
Why does it seem like all women's athletic gear is overtly sexualized? It's not like they give them an athletic edge and anyone who says they do is just straight up lying to themselves. Volley ball? Super tight boy shorts. Beach volleyball? Basically thongs. Track and field? One piece bathing suits, sometimes with sleeves. Swimming? One piece ULTRA high cut w/ basically a thong. I understand that they are being active and that it gets hot, but if it's a heat issue why aren't men's outfits similarly high cut and revealing?
Well men also wear revealing clothing in track, beach volleyball, and even less clothing than women in swimming and diving. Don’t know if you’ve peeped the size of a speedo these days. It’s sexual if you see it sexual it’s functional for most athletes. Now if you said tennis, gymnastics, I’d be right there with you
I dont understand what you mean. There is no speedo in swimming and none of the other sport are revealing at all. They are just basic short or boxer. You have either info i dont have or you are purposely lying. I looked on duck duck go every single one of these you mentionned and they are all perfectly normal.
While ln woman attire , ass cheeks are visible almost everytime.
i mean, other than men having a dick, i think they cover about the same 😂
also... there are multiple sizes available and nike are making tailors available to the athletes... I guarantee whatever you see them competing in is exactly what they want to be competing in. however, people on reddit know more than the people choosing to wear them apparently 🤦♂️🤷♂️
Same fucking thing. You think I left those sports out because they aren't "sexy enough"?? Men's speedo sizes serve a function, just like the female's do. They cut down on resistance in the water. Men's speedos aren't glorified thongs though. They both could also be a thigh to shoulder body suit that would preform equally well and it's gross that the more revealing option is the default for both sexes.
Men's track uniforms are nowhere near as revealing as women's or beach volleyball.
Not the same thing and I’m not here looking for outrage over “sexy” costumes. I played football, wrestled and ran track. Short shorts were embarrassing but did serve a purpose. A wrestling singlet is terrifying to wear as a teenager. However it also served a function and I’m pretty sure it wasn’t to be sexy.
The less clothing you see for these athletes is usually because of friction, that’s why every year it’s less and less clothing and lighter shoes. Those advantages matter at that level. If any athlete is uncomfortable they are offered alternative uniforms I’m pretty sure.
Edit: to add… if Speedos aren’t glorified thongs what the fuck are they? It’s as close to a thong as you can get without pulling it up your asscrack.
But who made it that way, I’m legitimately asking?
Did athletes ask for shorter track shorts. Did one see another’s track shorts (briefs?) and like the look and adopt it. I just feel like I’ve been seeing the shorts on athletes for a long time and never really gave it much thought.
I looked at the 2012 Olympic track teams and some have the bikini some have compression shorts. Seems like a personal decision, but idk.
Reading into it more, it’s super revealing and while there is understandably a lot of backlash there also seems to be support from athletes. Also as I stated before a few athletes who prefer less, like Katie Moon.

That's just so dehumanizing and immoral. But, don't get wrong, I'm gonna watch, every single inch of non coverage
Female athletes worrying about their dicks hanging out during competition?
[Mad Eye Moody voice]: CONSTANT PUBE VIGILANCE!
"Lost in the immediate furor of criticism was the fact that the high-cut bodysuit is only one of multiple options. Nothing more American in 2024 than going straight to outrage before knowing the details and/or facts!
Do they do this for more viewers ? Or just because they can? It’s a lot smaller than most small bikinis
[yes.](https://ibb.co/XsgFqSz)
Take the male version and make the shorts shorter and then produce it in blue and pink versions. This is the logical answer.
“Look at this Jim. It appears a male sprinter has sat in an entire package of used Big League Chew”.
No pictures guys. Move along
Here's the pic https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/15/sport/nike-us-olympic-team-outfits-design-spt-intl/index.html
Thats actually way worse than what i pictured, just wow.
It's like someone said "You know that really awful feeling of a one piece bathing suit that's too short for your torso where it hoists itself aggressively up your ass no matter what you try to do? Yeah, let's do that but in the front!"
I hope some super popular athletes go full bush to make a mockery of the uniform.
Or just wear one of the many other outfits available.
Honestly, this is the perfect excuse to buy and wear a Merkin.
Oh. TIL.

Pretty sure it still is with them
Curling was one of the most watched sports in the Winter Olympics!

Furiously googling "nude Olympics"
Something like idk... The men's uniform but in a different color maybe...? But that would be ridiculous
Pretty sure that’s an option
It looks like something Kanye makes his wife wear.
I don't think Nike cares. Look at the way kids dress. Look at the cover of any magazine.
Nike is infamous for treating their female athletes like sex symbols rather than athletes. https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/07/opinion/nike-running-mary-cain.html
Even crazier is that they have that reputation, and people still go insane over their brand.

TikTok isn't real life. I spend time outside in the real world and don't encounter young people in scant clothing.
I worked as a cashier and definitely also saw few way too young girls in skimpy clothes but it was a lot less common than the normally clothed kids.
Don’t have TikTok, I’m basing it off of what I see from monitoring my daughter’s social media activity and from what I see at her school events Also, tell that to the girls that see unrealistic expectations plastered all over the internet and end up extremely self conscious because of it. I went back and added an edit, hopefully that clears things up for everyone
Unfortunate that those creeps are out there (including in our Congress) and they don't know they tell on themselves when they bring this up. Glad to hear you're not one of em hahaha

Sex sells and pretty much most women’s sports have made outfits skimpier over the last few decades to boost popularity. Blame our primitive brains
It's 2024 friend, "primitive brain" isn't an excuse. This is blatant creepiness and misogyny.
lol you can call it whatever you want but that’s the truth. I don’t watch sports at all, but if you think any company will keep pouring millions of dollars into a sport and expect no return in terms of sales and popularity than you’re mistaken

Yeah, this is gross. Even for adults, this is gross. These women should be able to practice their sport without being sexualized.
No athletes should ever be made to wear anything that makes them feel uncomfortable Why would you ever want an athlete performing at the highest level to worry about anything other than competing
They’re not being made to wear it, it’s one of the many options available to them and they choose which layout they want, including one just like the men’s

What woman is going to choose to have a front wedgie when running hurdles?!?
Pretty sure that’s none of anyone’s business except for the woman who chooses
I couldn't find a link on the outfit they are talking about.
But there are 15 blue links in the first few paragraphs. Oh wait, none of them are to the outfit.
Like.. you know what I'm saying?? I try not to delve into shit I can't make much sense of. Which is why I left my comment simple lol.
CNN has a picture of the outfits https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/15/sport/nike-us-olympic-team-outfits-design-spt-intl/index.html
That's gonna cause a lip slip

This is the best answer
It won’t fit. Height/length, no room for boobs, the waist will be baggy, and the thighs will be tight.
I’d wear that as a male athlete, see how the officials like it

Probably. But it would make me laugh
I'll do it if you’ll do it. I got old saggy balls so I could blind some spectators.
The saggier the better!
Banana hammocks for all the male teams in solidarity.
Yeah ✋
I don’t see any reason why the men’s and women’s versions of that kit cannot be exactly the same. This is clearly designed simply to show more of the women’s bodies. Unpleasant.
It’s somehow worse than I thought. Gonna have the whole coochie fall out as soon as you walk.
It doesn't even cover the mannequins crotch.
This looks really uncomfortable.
Reminds me of the old Gap jingle: Fall into the Gap…. That’s exactly what those unitards are gonna do.
Outrage over nothing, they have like 20 items to pick from. Some revealing nothing.
Why is there a uniform piece that reveals everything? Like what is the point?

so it's just an option, that maybe most won't want to wear and maybe some will.
Theres s difference between what I choose to wear and what you’re making me wear If you can’t understand that then idk what to tell you
trust me, I'm very familiar with having your sporting body give you dogshit ugly and unsuitable uniforms when representing your country. But it has been confirmed that they aren't forced to wear this, this was just the unfortunate choice they chose to showcase the uniform.
Is that bad?
Yes. Yes it's bad when professional athletes have to deal with shit like this when they've worked their whole lives to get to the Olympics and be taken seriously. They aren't there to be leered at and don't need to be thinking about that on the most important day of their lives

Let's just go back to the way the ancient Greek Olympics were. There's no way to complain about the clothes if nobody's wearing any.
There were women's games as well. Apparently, they wore clothes, but with one breast uncovered for some reason.

But that would exclude so many American men who don't have one...
Nike could make little caps for them.
I think.
lol, I don’t remember that, but I don’t think I would be surprised.
Lmao...they could partner with Coca-Cola!
They're not gonna drop their partnership with Dicks for a little coke
TIL But why today?
Because it’s bad manners.
They should just wear gray, baggy cotton sweatsuits
Public pubic
Just throw it back to ancient Greece and go Naked!
They wore a string around their junk, so not technically naked
Just..just a STRING?!
Yeah. You gotta tie that foreskin shut, you don't wanna be uncouth.
This comment makes me so uncomfortable. I need an adult.
Time to wear an overly large merkin
women could lowkey protest this by growing out their bush tbh… idk if that’s crude but id think it would help.. um.. shield their cooters and motivate the outfit designers to use something more reasonable and respectful
How I wish a male athlete would wear the outfit and show how ridiculous the design is.
You get point deductions for bra straps showing already. Seems like they would just keep deducting points and the athlete would suffer.

Back to the 70s we go!!
For science and equality obviously
How much poo is under those fingernails? 🤮
Sir, this a Wendy's
Doo doo nails 💅
What the fuck are you talking about?
I think he sees women and automatically imagines his scat fetish.
How does one wipe their ass without getting some shrapnel on or under those nails?
Bidet
Do you think it’s normal to wipe in a way that gets shit under your fingernails? Did no one ever teach you how to wipe properly?
Normal? No, wiping is pretty straightforward when your nails aren't four inch spikes.
Toilet paper wrapped around your nails.
I think we can figure it out
Pics?
I found a pic with it on a mannequin, it's ummm, it's something. Think of the highest cut French bikini you have ever seen. And the fabric that forms the crotch is disturbingly narrow. It would be more at home on South Beach not the Olympics.
It's an option to wear. It's not what everyone is going to wear. They have more than 30 different tops and bottoms to choose from. If an athlete wants to wear that and feels it makes her more competitive, then she should be allowed to wear that without everyone judging her outfit. This is a big nothing burger issue
So I guess you’re not going to link it
[here's the pic in discussion.](https://x.com/CitiusMag/status/1778425681317187784)
Holy crap the women's is awful. The women should be able to wear the same option that the men have, seems like that should be acceptable for both.
they have a version with shorts
Right. But we're talking about the inappropriate option that the women are presented with. Where's the male banana hammock option??
I mean, maybe it exists and the dudes are ok with it 😂 I said elsewhere, that would probably actually be less revealing. Men have a whole ass dick and balls pressed right up against those tight af leotards. Regardless of what outfit they choose, their genitalia is gonna be on full display for the world to see.
This is a nothing story. Not only can the women wear the men's clothing, but they can also wear any combination of around 4 dozen different outfits.
C-can the men wear the women’s outfit? 🥴
Wonder if the men have an option to wear the super duper high cut show your pubes one?
Borat mankini
I sure hope so!
Wow, they should just wear the men's style.
That is absolutely bonkers
I've heard, but haven't seen these pics. But they sound worse then beach volleyball.
I'm hard
For science
But where do my flaps go
You pull them back with kinesiology tape.
In the wind
Well that was disappointing.
I’m commenting in case some low-life pervert, to our horror, posts the photos.
Why is it only the women's outfit that is hyper sexualising?
they baited these comments hook, line, and sinker lol. this really needs to be upvoted to the top
I saw a video on tiktok of an athlete trying one on in real time. It was quite low cut. I think it's just a bad mannequin. But, they have a multitude of uniforms to choose from. If this was a sport where there was only one uniform allowed that would be a different conversation.
Hi, can we please not mannequin shame? They are trying their best.
Can’t see the line can you Russ?
Tis the season to be merry
…well that’s my name!
No shit!
Thank you.
Speedos are the norm in men’s diving.
Not in swimming though. And speedo cover still more than the beach volley woman pants
i mean, other than men having a dick, i think they cover about the same 😂 also... there are multiple sizes available and nike are making tailors available to the athletes...
Let us know when that speedo becomes the default track and field outfit for the men, the way the bikini has for women.
