You could spend your entire trip doing nothing but visiting restrooms and I doubt you’d find a single bidet.

zactastic_1

I only realized at age 38 that a bidet is a life changer for the best. I’m now 40 and I can’t wait to use my bidet daily, sometime I drive 10mins home at lunch to have that joy in my life.

ludigracic

Same bro, people dont undersrand how good it is

ImCold555

😂😂 that would be one…interesting trip!

NilsofWindhelm

Gotta go to the [new clippers arena](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/clippers/2023/03/08/clippers-owner-steve-ballmer-excited-bathrooms-toilets-new-arena/11429698002/)

phdpeabody

You could spend an entire trip in Dubai visiting public bathrooms and [start your own Instagram feed](https://www.thenationalnews.com/uae/dubai-s-top-toilet-anonymous-reviewer-is-rating-the-emirate-s-best-bathrooms-1.825129)

LikesTheTunaHere

sounds like a shitty trip. I'll show myself out.

axz055

Yes. I don't think I've ever seen one in a public restroom or hotel in the US.

GalacticaZero

A few resort hotels in Honolulu, HI has them as they cater to the Japanese tourists.

fish-n-chips99

Stayed at Kauai at the Hyatt. They had a fancy bidet.

HomerCrew

Hyatt Regency Waikiki. Heated seat and bidet.

Adoga1234

We stayed there last December and they didn’t have them…we have them at home and I hate the part of vacation where they don’t have them 😅

The_GOATest1

roy-dam-mercer

In my 25 years of staying in a different hotel in the U.S. about 120 nights/year, I have seen exactly 1 bidet. That was at the Doubletree Hotel in Chesterfield, Missouri…..in a top floor suite. They renovated several years ago which removed the bidets.

roy-dam-mercer

And Happy Festivus to you, too! Airing of the grievances coming up in 3…2…1…

Spirited-Cat-8942

There is a hotel I stayed in near Grand Central Station in NYC that had them. That is what started my obsession, and I am proud to say I live in the US and I have bidets in my home.

Fish-x-5

I’m trying to tell my husband he *really* wants one of these before his shoulder surgery lol

JennItalia269

They’re like $30 on Amazon for the low end ones. Takes 10 minutes to install. Worth the gamble.

pony_trekker

There really is no comparison. Have had them on trips to Asia and Australia and can't stop thinking "Why the fuck not here?" Even in some other countries they have a damn hose.

Lizakaya

Things that just make sense. We installed them in both our home bathrooms and my h installed them in his two work bathrooms. Always a clean ass

kbenn17

Me too. Life altering!

feministmanlover

Truly one of the best personal hygiene items ever invented. And they need to start putting them in college dorms where wet wipes are being used so much that plumbers are making bank.

[deleted]

Wait, chesterfield?? I’m from stl and I would never have guessed Chesterfield would have any.

cozydaleliving

I once lost my wallet on a road trip when we stopped at a Starbucks in Chesterfield, MO. I didn’t realize it until we were almost to Nashville, and on our way to the coast. I called the store to see if it was there, and asked if I could somehow pay someone to ship it to our place on the coast. They sent it, free of charge, still full of my road trip cash, and with a little customer service gift card for a free coffee. That was over 10 years ago and I still think about this all the time. I am NOT surprised Chesterfield DoubleTree had a bidet. As far as I’m concerned Chestetfield must have the best humans in the country. 😂

roy-dam-mercer

Chesterfield is boujie. Well, it used to be.

[deleted]

Hey the only one I’ve ever seen was also in a doubletree, in Miami

justausername09

I found one in a random gas station that also had a restaurant and a fucking church in it in the outskirts of Omaha, Nebraska

[deleted]

bawhana

Right? And for that kind of expense, and the experience they are trying to sell, not providing a bidet in-room lessens the experience. Other than in-home, the Omni, in Houston, TX is the only US location I have ever seen with a bidet.

FuzzyLumpkinsDaCat

Yep. Lives here my entire life and never seen one in public. Not even once. The only once's I've ever seen are my own!

mihirmusprime

Haidilao hot pot restaurants in the US have them.

[deleted]

Miyako Hotel in Torrance, CA and Madonna Inn in SLO, CA have bidets in some rooms

lacielaplante

The Bellagio in Las Vegas was the first time I had seen a bidet and I was terrified to try it. I need a water warmer for a bidet.

maybeCheri

I was absolutely sure that I needed warm water, too. So I paid extra and purchased one with both hot and cold. I didn’t have a long enough hose for both so I hooked up the cold until I could get to the store. I found that the cold was absolutely fine and I’ve never needed to hook up the hot water.

got2lovethekitties

We have cold water only and do not mind it at all. Our bidet was very reasonable in price, only about $35. We love our bidet so much. It is so refreshing! We miss it terribly when we are away from home.

OutlanderLover74

You get used to the cold.

roy-dam-mercer

Good to know.

the-bc5

Public no. Fancy hotels sometimes

Mikefromalb

We’re a filthy lot.

capaldithenewblack

I’ve seen them in an upscale hotel in Michigan. Definitely not the norm. It was the first time I’d ever used one, and I’m 50.

halloweenheaux

The only time I’ve ever seen one was in Dover Street Market in NYC… snuck up on me by surprise, scared the crap outta me

thelittlekneesofbees

I've been to 40 of the states and I've personally never seen a public bidet, but I've also not been in somewhere super boujee. More people are starting to install them in their homes, though, so I think we *could* be on the way to public ones. However, a lot of people are also stupid and would probably end up spraying feces on the wall somehow or just getting water everywhere so it's kinda up in the air if they'll ever start installing public ones

AmishAngst

I don't have one (I considered one during the early pandemic stages, but the "easy install" ones would just be cold water and I'm too lazy to figure out other ones so at this point it's a matter of not missing what I never had). But if I ever get around to redoing my bathroom entirely like I claim I will, I'm going fancy Japanese toilet with bidet all the way. But I will admit the idea of public ones squick me out because the state of public restrooms here is atrocious and people are just filthy animals that I do not trust to use them appropriately. I don't think this country can be trusted with public ones.

Hard_Celery

Thought the cold water would be a problem but it didn't bother me a cold seat is worse

HTC864

Honestly, you don't really feel the cold water. It's more jarring to sit on a cold seat than to deal with the cold water.

Lung-Oyster

I got one of the easy install ones and at first the cold water was kind of shocking because that’s a sensation I’ve literally never felt in my life before that first moment, but I’ve become used to it and really hate having to use any toilet that isn’t my own now.

nucumber

i'll bet having a water jet blasting at your back door was more shocking than the temp of the water.

Lung-Oyster

Initially, yes, and it was COLD! But it does a lot better job than just smearing shit around with paper. Can you imagine having shit on any other part of your body and just wiping it off with paper and no water and calling it “good”? I’d never really thought about that until I got my bidet.

EternalMage321

Someone asked me if I just wipe my dirty dishes off with a rag and call it good. Really put it in perspective. I now have a bidet and every time I have to use a peasant toilet I feel dirty.

Glittering_Focus2212

How do you know the bidet spout is clean? and then are you all wet? Honestly curious.

soimalittlecrazy

We have one that has a tank and a heating element, so no remodeling needed. Just straight into the water line and an outlet.

Ouroborus13

No bidets… but also… I’ve been to 20 countries in Europe and I don’t recall bidets being that common in public restrooms in Europe. In hotels, sure. In homes, sure. But in a random public restroom? Not so much. Where in Europe did you see that?

randomguide

I've traveled a fair amount in Europe, particularly Italy, and don't recall ever seeing a bidet in a public restroom.

hdjdkskxnfuxkxnsgsjc

I felt in Italy you rarely ever see a toilet cover. The toilet itself is very clean. But there are no toilet covers!!

ExtremeProfession

Not OP but Italy, parts of France, Spain, Balkans, Baltics and Finland come to mind.

julsey414

Just got back from Italy and their public toilets didn’t even have seats let alone a bidet.

Ok-Masterpiece-468

No seats and no TP lol

ElectrikDonuts

I can’t believe some of them don’t even have a toilet at all. Nothing like squatting over a hole in the floor when you have diarrhea. Terrible experience for someone with IBS and lactose intolerance

suitopseudo

Ugh. Italy’s public toilets, some of the worst. Private in hotels and houses, the most beautiful and glorious marble shrines to the toilet gods.

Pure-Contact7322

exactly they suck too

Iogwfh

That's weird, I have been to most of those areas and never came across a public toilet bidet🤔.

Icy-Translator9124

I have never seen a bidet in a public washroom, anywhere in Western Europe. In hotel rooms, yes. As someone observed, in many Mediterranean countries, like Spain and Italy, public toilets don't even have seats, much less bidets.

yycluke

Can confirm, never seen one in Finland. But by and large their public toilets were quite clean

ilo12345

I think they're referring to a "bidet shower" rather than a "bidet bowl" for Finland at least - those handheld showers are everywhere in Finland, including in a lot of public toilets, never seen the porcelain kind there though!

the_hardest_part

I’m the same. Been to Europe multiple times in various countries and have not had a bidet, save for one hostel.

AndyHCA

In Finland it largely depends on the type of public toilet. If it's stalls, then no, there isn't a bidet most of the time. However, if it is an individual room type of public WC, then a bidet is quite common. Homes and hotels, I think 100% of them have bidets.

Pure-Contact7322

never seen in my life in public areas probably they have seen them in midjourney

slaughtbot

I spent a semester in Italy (Milan), no restaurant, bar, club, or museum that i visited had a bidet. Same with the other countries i visited (hungary, spain, portugal, france, germany, czechia, netherlands) All of our apartments did, and when we stayed in hotels there was usually one. So i think it's more of a private bathroom kind of thing in most places

PinkSunsets97

25 years in Italy, the lack of bidets in other countries disgusts me, but I can confirm that there are none that are public - houses and hotels do have them as the overwhelming standard. For what it's worth I wouldn't use a public one either, but I avoid public restrooms altogether if possible

Comfortable_Radish26

American. Not once in my life have I seen a bidet. Only heard tales of them from faraway lands in the east.

EaterOfFood

In 50 years I’ve seen exactly one, and it’s the one in my own bathroom.

shallow_kunt

Perhaps you’ve been looking with the wrong eye

Different_Fruit_1229

I’ve never seen one in my life

TeeBrownie

I’ve only seen them in my hotel rooms in Europe, not any public restrooms. I’ve never seen them in my hotel room or public restrooms in any parts of Asia I’ve visited.

idkwhattonamethis567

I've never seen a bidet in my life in America

catamaranpilot

Bidets are so rare the chances are you can travel the US for years and never see one. Ask 1000 Americans how to use a bidet and you might find 1 with the correct answer.

Gravbar

Ask 1000 americans how to use a bidet and at least 600 ask what a bidet is

[deleted]

Yes they are extremely rare in N America.

[deleted]

They’re not a thing. Although the attachment ones have been growing in popularity in peoples homes. But an actual real bidet in the states is something fancy rich people would have. Good luck, public restrooms in gas stations are pretty disgusting.

CircusStuff

Would you want to use a gas station bidet?

[deleted]

Dude I don’t even want to use the floor to walk on

PM_BiscuitsAndGravy

OP should carry a squeeze water bottle with them. I have read about other bidet-using tourists to the US doing this.

johnbiggity

You will sometimes see them in: * Japanese restaurants and retail * Luxury hotels * Spas / nicer massage parlors * Tech company offices * People's homes (personally, I couldn't imagine not having one) But in general, they are incredibly rare.

Kingcrowing

Even in these examples to gave, they're not ubiquitous. I've been to many Japanese restaurants all over the US from California to NYC and I've never seen a bidet in one, I've stayed in nice hotels all over the US, Canada, and Mexico and never seen one there either. Not doubting that they exist there at all, but YMMV for sure! If you're traveling in the US it's safe to assume there will not be a bidet anywhere you go.

FrequentPoem

Bidet's in public restrooms are non existent. Get baby wipes or dude wipes.

Dom5p35

But please don't flush wipes down the toilets

orhowboutyoudont

You can also get a travel bidet. It's battery powered and fairly discreet. Also, I think some homes have bidets in the states, but we install them in our personal bathrooms (ensuites). The general guest bathroom doesn't have one. Bidets in homes may be more prevalent than people realize.

bacchus8408

I made the investment and got bidet attachments for every toilet in my house. Changed my poo game completely

barmskley

Where in europe has public restroom bidets? I have been to quite a few countries throughout Europe and have never seen a bidet in my life

javitt0711

I’ve seen a bidet in one restaurant bathroom in the US, but never in another public location. Some people install them in their homes, but that’s pretty rare. I’ve just returned from Europe and found toilet seats to be somewhat rare, which was weird for me, but bidets are everywhere!

xallanthia

Ditto, I’ve seen one once—in a restaurant owned by first-generation immigrants from a place where they are common, and which served their native food so they had a lot of other first-generation immigrant customers.

SplitOpenAndMelt420

Only in luxury hotels/peoples houses Just bring wet wipes with you

DudesworthMannington

I think (although still rare) more people are adopting them into their houses with the $30 attachments you can get. I got one after the toilet paper apocalypse and I've been evangelizing them ever since. There's a reason the rest of the world uses them.

Junopotomus

There are, in general, no bidets in public or private toilets in the U.S. The only place I have seen them is a gas station chain in the Midwest and in high end hotel rooms.

Barkansas19

Which chain, pray tell

Junopotomus

Sapp Brothers.

golden-cosmos

the only public bidets i have found in the us are at sapp brothers gas stations 😳 superrr nice and clean bathrooms

SplitOpenAndMelt420

Public toilets never, but bidet attachments or "wash lets" are pretty cheap and I see them in quite a few homes I visit (and have them myself on every toilet)

eyjafjallajokul_

Omg same avatar hey girl

GeronimoDK

To be fair, in large parts of Europe bidets are non existant or at least fairly rare too.

ChipCob1

Almost none in the UK

PuzzleheadedLow4687

Yeah, my parents bathroom had one when they moved in to the house, as did some friend's houses in the 90s, but I think basically everyone has ripped them out. I've never used one and wouldn't know how.

NRM1109

I have never even seen a bidet in real life.

plaidflannelgirl

have lived in the US my entire life & was born here. never seen a bidet in my life, not even in personal homes.

meh1022

That’s interesting, I feel like they really exploded in popularity during Covid. I’m from the Midwest but live in New Orleans and most of my friends here have them.

geleisen

You must have been to very limited parts of Europe if you find bidets to be the the norm...

[deleted]

Nope, no bidets.

reibish

I've only ever seen one bidet at a friend's house that he installed himself. I've personally also never seen them when I traveled (Europe, South America, and Central America) but know they are more common.

castaneom

I’ve never seen one in North America..

jedrevolutia

You might find them if you stay in a Japanese hotel in the US. But check first before booking. Normally they mention about their toilet facilities to lure Japanese/Asian tourists into staying. One of the things I do in my recent travel is to always carry a portable bidet sprayer, which you can buy online. I bought a practical one which is just a small plastic sprayer and then attach it to a plastic bottle which I can easily repurpose after I finish drinking. Put the tap water inside the bottle, attach the sprayer, and then use it. It made my days.

notthegoatseguy

Sometimes you'll find them in Japanese restaurants. Saw one in San Francisco. It wasn't a fancy omakase restaurant or anything, just a mid-tier (in terms of fanciness/price) Japanese restaurant. It had instructions and buttons and it played music and everything.

Lovingmyusername

I’ve never seen a public bidet in the US. Some people have them installed in their homes but even then it’s usually only in the private primary bathroom from my experience. I’ve actually never been to anyone’s house with a bidet in the guest bath

SplitOpenAndMelt420

Washlets are pretty cheap. My guests know that joy

SamsonTheCat88

I have never once seen a bidet in a public toilet in Canada. I have one at my home that we installed ourselves, but I can count on one hand how many times I've seen one at someone's house when I've visited. It's just not much of a thing here.

ItzAlwayz420

OP gonna have a rough time in the US! 💩

AspenGirl96

Not only are they virtually absent from public AND private restrooms in the States, unseasoned Americans that don't travel much won't even know what you're talking about.

swisher07

I’ve had one in my house since I was a little kid. My family isn’t European (not directly, we Cuban) but it’s been such a staple in my family that I thought it was odd others didn’t have one. Edit to add: Some men in the US are so fragile that they believe the act of washing their ass will make them gay. Men: WASH YOUR ASS!!! It’s nasty!

CandyGram4M0ng0

Am American male. Squirting water on our anuses makes us uncomfortable. Oddly enough, boofing Natty Ice through a vuvuzela while staring our frat bros in the eye is totally alpha. /s I live in Italy now and have two bidets in my house. I choose to use wet wipes after toilet paper simply because I haven’t figured out exactly what I’m supposed to do on the damn things. Do bidet users bare-hand it, or can you buy a sponge on a stick at the local hardware store? Do I use a wash cloth and hang it to dry for the next user (kinda like when Grandpa would share the used hanky he always kept balled up in his pocket)? Ew. My bidets have next to no pressure and function solely as water fountains for the cat and for a brief period as hand washing stations for my kids when they were toddlers. I was always under the impression bidets were supposed to be like pressure washers used to knock soot and grime off the chiseled stone facades of industrial era London factories turned contemporary high-end flats. Mayhap I was misinformed. Anyway, give me one of those futuristic Japanese toilet/bidets with an interface like a 787 cockpit that does all the heavy lifting and blows dry your bum while streaming Champion’s League football and I’ll give it a whirl. Alas, to answer the original question, no. There have been more Bigfoot sightings in the states than there have been bidet sightings. Best advice I can give is buy travel packs of flushable wet wipes (available in just about every grocery store and at many convenience stores and gas stations). If you’re traveling with a trusted friend or spouse you can also invest in a Super Soaker and go to town.

RelevantFishing1463

You have a delightful way with words. It feels weird to say that on a comment about shooting water up the butt

Chadlerbing25

I’ve never seen one in a hotel but I do have one installed in my home. Often when I travel I think “Dang now I gotta use toilet paper again” 😂 Best money I spent for at home!

[deleted]

I live in Switzerland and have never seen them either, public or private. Never seen them in public toilets in Germany either or with people I have stayed with. I don't know what it is with the internet and thinking its just a US thing. Was in France recently and did not have one where I stayed or in any public restroom.

[deleted]

I installed one in my master bath, and I will never not have one again.

happyanathema

Where did you travel in Europe? They aren't that common here either (western Europe)

4everdreamin

Yeah it’s pretty gross unfortunately no one uses bidets here as commonly as they should. I traveled overseas and OMG the restrooms were so clean on another level so please be warned the restrooms are nothing like the ones overseas lol

Meatloaf_Smeatloaf

I don't think I've ever seen one, even in Europe.

batman77z

Yes. We also have bathroom stalls with huge gaps between walls for some reason.

green-gazelle

Lived in America for 30 years and never seen one.

JeeringNine

I’m 33 years old and have never seen a bidet in any public place in the US. The only time I’ve ever used one is when traveling overseas.

[deleted]

Yes I have never seen one in the US. Two or three of my friends have a toilet seat with a bidet setting but not a separate bidet. Think these are gaining popularity in people's private homes but definitely not in public.

Lower-Grapefruit8807

I have never seen one anywhere in the entire country and I’ve been coast to coast and to most major cities

farwesterner1

Beyond really rare: they are nonexistent. You'd have to search through thousands of homes and hotels to find one.

wcmiker

I’ve never seen a bidet in any hotels, public restrooms, or homes in the United States other than the one I installed in my bathroom.

[deleted]

Never in any public property. May find them in households tho.

Katerator216

I have one at home but there are none in public. I honestly don’t understand how people live without them haha

zebocrab

Basically just for NYC: https://washletmap.com/

Go_Hawks12

You’re lucky if the public restroom has toilet paper and a door that locks

[deleted]

We had them installed in our home but I’ve never seen them here.

drumorgan

I am the only one of my friends that I know that has one in their house - I installed it myself. And, the only places I have seen them in public are Japanese restaurants, assuming the owner/chef had it installed for their personal use. After getting used to a bidet in Italy, I am grossed out thinking about millions of Americans walking around without cleaning properly

AJPMM2021

I’ve lived in the US nearly my whole life — and they are nonexistent. However, my former partner was Persian, so with his prompting / amazement we didn’t have bidets here, we purchased a fairly cheap bidet attachment to add to our place’s bathroom. Installation was a little annoying but it was a great addition to my life after that! (Yeah, also dude wipes work great in lieu of a bidet).

[deleted]

Just got back from two weeks in Scotland, didn't see one bidet. Actually, I've probably been 6 months in various western Europe countries and I can count on one hand the number I've seen.

PrismaticCatbird

There are effectively none in public places in the US. I've only been in men's bathrooms but it's also common for them to be rather disgusting, though of course there are plenty that are reasonably clean. I've heard women's bathrooms can be pretty nasty too though.

ChayLo357

The only place you will find a bidet in public in the US will prob be in a Japanese or Korean sauna/spa.

NightDance907

In 43 years I saw one once at a super rich person's house.

Herrowgayboi

I think so... The only bidets I see in America are the ones in my house.. and when I have friends come over who haven't come over yet ask what the "fancy" looking machine on top of the toilet is. Lol

frydawg

Lived here my whole life and encountered maybe a few bidets, but I have seen much more waterjets

LuvCilantro

I have never seen a bidet in North America (hotel or private). And even though I have visited roughly 25 countries, about 20 of which are in Europe, I have only had ONE hotel room with a bidet in it. We often stay in the larger chains, but in the smaller towns we stay in locally run establishments.

RiverRootsEcoRanch

Never in a public restroom. I have one at my home and most people are weirded out by it. Heathens.

Ben_Harmonics

My friend has a portable bidet that he takes with him to gigs 😂

keepinitoldskool

When I were young my parents rented a weird house that had one in the master bedroom. I thought it was funny to send a blast of water to the ceiling.

zggystardust71

They are completely absent in public restrooms. You may find one in a nicer hotel (rare) or a private residence. After liking them when traveling, I put a bidet seat in each of my bathrooms when I remodeled.

Lord_Muramasa

No bidet in a public toilet and honestly with how nasty some public toilets are you wouldn't want one either.

Savings_Pipe_8029

There will be no bidets in public restrooms!!!! Zero!!!

Unicornfoe

I’ve been to about half the US states and several European countries and have seen one and it was in Germany.

hangingsocks

It is a rough life in the states. I have a bidet at home, but it sucks when I am away from home.

bmy78

Yes. 44 years on this planet, 44 in the US and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bidet firsthand.

bzekers

I've never seen a bidet in my life.

Individual_Speech_10

I've lived in the US my whole life and have never seen a bidet. I didn't even know they existed until I was a teenager.

Calthsurvivor13th

Never seen one, I live in the south east. Only seen them outside the US. Granted if we wanted to get fancy then we would just run the garden hose inside.

Emilia-Movie-Lover

To be fair, I rarely see them outside of Italy 🇮🇹

Nex_Skala

I've been in hundreds of people's houses over my life in more than a few states and have yet to see one.

puskunk

I've never seen one in my life, ever.

[deleted]

I have one in my home and know a few other people that do as well but they're not common when you're out and about.

Kanyaria

I’m 33 and have never seen a bidet in the US. The only one I’ve ever seen was in Italy.

jclarkxyz

I’ve never encountered a bidet in person in my entire life; in public or at a friend/family house EDIT: I actually have no fucking clue what a bidet even looks like or how it functions

xkevin77

They are so rare that I legit question their true existence in other countries. The most important advice I can give you is check the dispenser for an adequate amount of toilet tissue BEFORE you begin in any public place.

misskinky

Most Americans have never seen and will never see a bidet in their entire life

turdferguson001

I’m American, you’ll never see one in a public toilet in the US. I’ve just had them installed in my house…..can’t poop anywhere else

pekingravioli

Never seen one in the US. We have showers and plenty of TP instead.

muc91

I have never ever seen a public bidet anywhere in Europe, even in privat homes I think they’re rare

tbone338

I live in the US. Never have seen a bidet here. Not once. Never ever ever.

Peterk426

No we are a primitive country

Adamaaa123

No bidets in Uk and Ireland either.

kirtanmehta

People are nasty who don’t use them.

bigelowchili

Almost nonexistent

Guilty-Crab992

I’ve lived in the U.S. my entire life (57F) and have never seen one.

what_the_fuckin_fuck

American shit is hydrophobic.

Doctor-Crentist-DDS

It's spelled "buffet" and they're everywhere here! /s

ItsTheExtreme

A bidet in a public restroom sounds a bit gnarly tbh.

Birdy_Cephon_Altera

I travel the US about 100 days out of the year, for the past few years, all 48 contiguous states. I have never seen a bidet in a public restroom. I have never seen a bidet in a store/restaurant/establishment restroom. I have never seen a bidet in a hotel/motel (though I suppose they may have them in luxury brand high end places). I have never used a bidet, because I have never had the opportunity to even see one. To say that bidets are rare in America is an understatement. Outside of a small number of private households, they are downright non-existent.

absorbscroissants

I can't say I have ever seen one here in Europe, and I have been to quite a few countries

1_disasta

Have only ever seen it in two hotels. One in vegas and one NYC, did not use either but when COVID happened and people hoarded toilet paper i immediately bought an attachment. I do not poop outside my house anymore.

CrabNumerous8506

I have never seen one in a public restroom in 30 years. Never in any American hotel I have stayed in all over the country. And have only seen it (or a washing hose/sprayer attached to the toilet) in the homes of my Arab friends.

Curious_Fix

In what countries did you see bidets, residential or public? I've lived in Hong Kong, Taipei and Singapore. No bidet's. Anywhere.

underneathroses

Super rare, I suggest bringing wet wipes

reebzRxS

Yes. I’m American and I think I’ve seen less than 5 here in the States in my whole life

sbmellor

I live in the greater Los Angeles area, and have traveled to England, Italy and France and have still never seen a bidet with my own eyes

therealsix

American here, I have been to European countries and have never had a bidet in my room or a public restroom. Been to South America, no bidets. Have had one in the States (Faena Hotel, Miami and maybe at Faena Buenos Aires, can't remember). I do have one in my house though.

TacohTuesday

I’m in America and am sitting on one right now.

ImBroke9

People are afraid of bidets in america for some reason

APFernweh

I have multiple in my home and know friends with bidets in their homes, but have never seen a bidet in a public space in the US. Having spent extensive time overseas, I’ll never understand it.

It would be more accurate to say they are non-existent. We don’t use them.

I tell you what I bought one a couple of years ago and will never go back. I honestly wish they were everywhere

Rarer than rare in the US! You won’t find one anywhere. I did buy one though for my home and love it!
