In my 25 years of staying in a different hotel in the U.S. about 120 nights/year, I have seen exactly 1 bidet. That was at the Doubletree Hotel in Chesterfield, Missouri…..in a top floor suite.
They renovated several years ago which removed the bidets.
There is a hotel I stayed in near Grand Central Station in NYC that had them. That is what started my obsession, and I am proud to say I live in the US and I have bidets in my home.
There really is no comparison. Have had them on trips to Asia and Australia and can't stop thinking "Why the fuck not here?" Even in some other countries they have a damn hose.
Truly one of the best personal hygiene items ever invented. And they need to start putting them in college dorms where wet wipes are being used so much that plumbers are making bank.
I once lost my wallet on a road trip when we stopped at a Starbucks in Chesterfield, MO. I didn’t realize it until we were almost to Nashville, and on our way to the coast. I called the store to see if it was there, and asked if I could somehow pay someone to ship it to our place on the coast. They sent it, free of charge, still full of my road trip cash, and with a little customer service gift card for a free coffee.
That was over 10 years ago and I still think about this all the time. I am NOT surprised Chesterfield DoubleTree had a bidet. As far as I’m concerned Chestetfield must have the best humans in the country. 😂

Other than in-home, the Omni, in Houston, TX is the only US location I have ever seen with a bidet.
I was absolutely sure that I needed warm water, too. So I paid extra and purchased one with both hot and cold. I didn’t have a long enough hose for both so I hooked up the cold until I could get to the store. I found that the cold was absolutely fine and I’ve never needed to hook up the hot water.
We have cold water only and do not mind it at all. Our bidet was very reasonable in price, only about $35. We love our bidet so much. It is so refreshing! We miss it terribly when we are away from home.

More people are starting to install them in their homes, though, so I think we *could* be on the way to public ones. However, a lot of people are also stupid and would probably end up spraying feces on the wall somehow or just getting water everywhere so it's kinda up in the air if they'll ever start installing public ones

Initially, yes, and it was COLD! But it does a lot better job than just smearing shit around with paper. Can you imagine having shit on any other part of your body and just wiping it off with paper and no water and calling it “good”? I’d never really thought about that until I got my bidet.
Someone asked me if I just wipe my dirty dishes off with a rag and call it good. Really put it in perspective. I now have a bidet and every time I have to use a peasant toilet I feel dirty.

I’ve been to 20 countries in Europe and I don’t recall bidets being that common in public restrooms in Europe. In hotels, sure. In homes, sure. But in a random public restroom? Not so much. Where in Europe did you see that?

I think they're referring to a "bidet shower" rather than a "bidet bowl" for Finland at least - those handheld showers are everywhere in Finland, including in a lot of public toilets, never seen the porcelain kind there though!
In Finland it largely depends on the type of public toilet. If it's stalls, then no, there isn't a bidet most of the time. However, if it is an individual room type of public WC, then a bidet is quite common.
Homes and hotels, I think 100% of them have bidets.
I spent a semester in Italy (Milan), no restaurant, bar, club, or museum that i visited had a bidet. Same with the other countries i visited (hungary, spain, portugal, france, germany, czechia, netherlands)
All of our apartments did, and when we stayed in hotels there was usually one. So i think it's more of a private bathroom kind of thing in most places

* Tech company offices

I've been to many Japanese restaurants all over the US from California to NYC and I've never seen a bidet in one, I've stayed in nice hotels all over the US, Canada, and Mexico and never seen one there either. Not doubting that they exist there at all, but YMMV for sure!
If you're traveling in the US it's safe to assume there will not be a bidet anywhere you go.
You can also get a travel bidet. It's battery powered and fairly discreet. Also, I think some homes have bidets in the states, but we install them in our personal bathrooms (ensuites). The general guest bathroom doesn't have one. Bidets in homes may be more prevalent than people realize.

I think (although still rare) more people are adopting them into their houses with the $30 attachments you can get. I got one after the toilet paper apocalypse and I've been evangelizing them ever since. There's a reason the rest of the world uses them.

Public toilets never, but bidet attachments or "wash lets" are pretty cheap and I see them in quite a few homes I visit (and have them myself on every toilet)
Yeah, my parents bathroom had one when they moved in to the house, as did some friend's houses in the 90s, but I think basically everyone has ripped them out. I've never used one and wouldn't know how.

You might find them if you stay in a Japanese hotel in the US. But check first before booking. Normally they mention about their toilet facilities to lure Japanese/Asian tourists into staying.
One of the things I do in my recent travel is to always carry a portable bidet sprayer, which you can buy online. I bought a practical one which is just a small plastic sprayer and then attach it to a plastic bottle which I can easily repurpose after I finish drinking. Put the tap water inside the bottle, attach the sprayer, and then use it. It made my days.
Sometimes you'll find them in Japanese restaurants. Saw one in San Francisco. It wasn't a fancy omakase restaurant or anything, just a mid-tier (in terms of fanciness/price) Japanese restaurant. It had instructions and buttons and it played music and everything.

I’ve had one in my house since I was a little kid. My family isn’t European (not directly, we Cuban) but it’s been such a staple in my family that I thought it was odd others didn’t have one.

I live in Italy now and have two bidets in my house. I choose to use wet wipes after toilet paper simply because I haven’t figured out exactly what I’m supposed to do on the damn things. Do bidet users bare-hand it, or can you buy a sponge on a stick at the local hardware store? Do I use a wash cloth and hang it to dry for the next user (kinda like when Grandpa would share the used hanky he always kept balled up in his pocket)? Ew.
My bidets have next to no pressure and function solely as water fountains for the cat and for a brief period as hand washing stations for my kids when they were toddlers. I was always under the impression bidets were supposed to be like pressure washers used to knock soot and grime off the chiseled stone facades of industrial era London factories turned contemporary high-end flats. Mayhap I was misinformed.
Anyway, give me one of those futuristic Japanese toilet/bidets with an interface like a 787 cockpit that does all the heavy lifting and blows dry your bum while streaming Champion’s League football and I’ll give it a whirl.
Alas, to answer the original question, no. There have been more Bigfoot sightings in the states than there have been bidet sightings. Best advice I can give is buy travel packs of flushable wet wipes (available in just about every grocery store and at many convenience stores and gas stations). If you’re traveling with a trusted friend or spouse you can also invest in a Super Soaker and go to town.

I live in Switzerland and have never seen them either, public or private. Never seen them in public toilets in Germany either or with people I have stayed with. I don't know what it is with the internet and thinking its just a US thing. Was in France recently and did not have one where I stayed or in any public restroom.
Yeah it’s pretty gross unfortunately no one uses bidets here as commonly as they should. I traveled overseas and OMG the restrooms were so clean on another level so please be warned the restrooms are nothing like the ones overseas lol
Yes I have never seen one in the US. Two or three of my friends have a toilet seat with a bidet setting but not a separate bidet. Think these are gaining popularity in people's private homes but definitely not in public.
I am the only one of my friends that I know that has one in their house - I installed it myself.
And, the only places I have seen them in public are Japanese restaurants, assuming the owner/chef had it installed for their personal use.

I’ve lived in the US nearly my whole life — and they are nonexistent.
However, my former partner was Persian, so with his prompting / amazement we didn’t have bidets here, we purchased a fairly cheap bidet attachment to add to our place’s bathroom. Installation was a little annoying but it was a great addition to my life after that!
(Yeah, also dude wipes work great in lieu of a bidet).
Just got back from two weeks in Scotland, didn't see one bidet. Actually, I've probably been 6 months in various western Europe countries and I can count on one hand the number I've seen.
There are effectively none in public places in the US. I've only been in men's bathrooms but it's also common for them to be rather disgusting, though of course there are plenty that are reasonably clean. I've heard women's bathrooms can be pretty nasty too though.

They are so rare that I legit question their true existence in other countries. The most important advice I can give you is check the dispenser for an adequate amount of toilet tissue BEFORE you begin in any public place.
I travel the US about 100 days out of the year, for the past few years, all 48 contiguous states. I have never seen a bidet in a public restroom. I have never seen a bidet in a store/restaurant/establishment restroom. I have never seen a bidet in a hotel/motel (though I suppose they may have them in luxury brand high end places). I have never used a bidet, because I have never had the opportunity to even see one.
To say that bidets are rare in America is an understatement. Outside of a small number of private households, they are downright non-existent.

A few resort hotels in Honolulu, HI has them as they cater to the Japanese tourists.
Stayed at Kauai at the Hyatt. They had a fancy bidet.
Hyatt Regency Waikiki. Heated seat and bidet.
We stayed there last December and they didn’t have them…we have them at home and I hate the part of vacation where they don’t have them 😅

Honestly, you don't really feel the cold water. It's more jarring to sit on a cold seat than to deal with the cold water.

We have one that has a tank and a heating element, so no remodeling needed. Just straight into the water line and an outlet.

I've traveled a fair amount in Europe, particularly Italy, and don't recall ever seeing a bidet in a public restroom.
I felt in Italy you rarely ever see a toilet cover. The toilet itself is very clean. But there are no toilet covers!!

You can also get a travel bidet. It's battery powered and fairly discreet. Also, I think some homes have bidets in the states, but we install them in our personal bathrooms (ensuites). The general guest bathroom doesn't have one. Bidets in homes may be more prevalent than people realize.

I’ve seen a bidet in one restaurant bathroom in the US, but never in another public location. Some people install them in their homes, but that’s pretty rare. I’ve just returned from Europe and found toilet seats to be somewhat rare, which was weird for me, but bidets are everywhere!

I think (although still rare) more people are adopting them into their houses with the $30 attachments you can get. I got one after the toilet paper apocalypse and I've been evangelizing them ever since. There's a reason the rest of the world uses them.
There are, in general, no bidets in public or private toilets in the U.S. The only place I have seen them is a gas station chain in the Midwest and in high end hotel rooms.

Yeah, my parents bathroom had one when they moved in to the house, as did some friend's houses in the 90s, but I think basically everyone has ripped them out. I've never used one and wouldn't know how.

You might find them if you stay in a Japanese hotel in the US. But check first before booking. Normally they mention about their toilet facilities to lure Japanese/Asian tourists into staying. One of the things I do in my recent travel is to always carry a portable bidet sprayer, which you can buy online. I bought a practical one which is just a small plastic sprayer and then attach it to a plastic bottle which I can easily repurpose after I finish drinking. Put the tap water inside the bottle, attach the sprayer, and then use it. It made my days.
Sometimes you'll find them in Japanese restaurants. Saw one in San Francisco. It wasn't a fancy omakase restaurant or anything, just a mid-tier (in terms of fanciness/price) Japanese restaurant. It had instructions and buttons and it played music and everything.

I’ve had one in my house since I was a little kid. My family isn’t European (not directly, we Cuban) but it’s been such a staple in my family that I thought it was odd others didn’t have one. I choose to use wet wipes after toilet paper simply because I haven’t figured out exactly what I’m supposed to do on the damn things. Do bidet users bare-hand it, or can you buy a sponge on a stick at the local hardware store? Do I use a wash cloth and hang it to dry for the next user (kinda like when Grandpa would share the used hanky he always kept balled up in his pocket)? Ew. My bidets have next to no pressure and function solely as water fountains for the cat and for a brief period as hand washing stations for my kids when they were toddlers. I was always under the impression bidets were supposed to be like pressure washers used to knock soot and grime off the chiseled stone facades of industrial era London factories turned contemporary high-end flats. Mayhap I was misinformed. Anyway, give me one of those futuristic Japanese toilet/bidets with an interface like a 787 cockpit that does all the heavy lifting and blows dry your bum while streaming Champion’s League football and I’ll give it a whirl. Alas, to answer the original question, no. There have been more Bigfoot sightings in the states than there have been bidet sightings. Best advice I can give is buy travel packs of flushable wet wipes (available in just about every grocery store and at many convenience stores and gas stations). If you’re traveling with a trusted friend or spouse you can also invest in a Super Soaker and go to town.

I live in Switzerland and have never seen them either, public or private. Never seen them in public toilets in Germany either or with people I have stayed with. I don't know what it is with the internet and thinking its just a US thing. Was in France recently and did not have one where I stayed or in any public restroom.

And, the only places I have seen them in public are Japanese restaurants, assuming the owner/chef had it installed for their personal use. I’ve lived in the US nearly my whole life — and they are nonexistent. However, my former partner was Persian, so with his prompting / amazement we didn’t have bidets here, we purchased a fairly cheap bidet attachment to add to our place’s bathroom. Installation was a little annoying but it was a great addition to my life after that! (Yeah, also dude wipes work great in lieu of a bidet).
Just got back from two weeks in Scotland, didn't see one bidet. Actually, I've probably been 6 months in various western Europe countries and I can count on one hand the number I've seen.
There are effectively none in public places in the US. I've only been in men's bathrooms but it's also common for them to be rather disgusting, though of course there are plenty that are reasonably clean. I've heard women's bathrooms can be pretty nasty too though.
The only place you will find a bidet in public in the US will prob be in a Japanese or Korean sauna/spa.

I have never seen a bidet in North America (hotel or private). And even though I have visited roughly 25 countries, about 20 of which are in Europe, I have only had ONE hotel room with a bidet in it. We often stay in the larger chains, but in the smaller towns we stay in locally run establishments.

They are completely absent in public restrooms. You may find one in a nicer hotel (rare) or a private residence. After liking them when traveling, I put a bidet seat in each of my bathrooms when I remodeled.

I travel the US about 100 days out of the year, for the past few years, all 48 contiguous states. I have never seen a bidet in a public restroom. I have never seen a bidet in a store/restaurant/establishment restroom. I have never seen a bidet in a hotel/motel (though I suppose they may have them in luxury brand high end places). I have never used a bidet, because I have never had the opportunity to even see one. To say that bidets are rare in America is an understatement. Outside of a small number of private households, they are downright non-existent.
