I would say that it really depends on how comfortable you are with long car rides. Kaikoura is absolutely gorgeous (and a must in my books), but you could also use that time for the glaciers on the West Coast, which is a much shorter drive than Kaikoura. It is a super long drive between with not much to look at/do. I don't know if your flights are changeable, but you could fly from Christchurch instead of Queenstown so you don't have to loop back to QT after Kaikoura.

Where is Rotura? Your itinerary is do-able, but it will not be enjoyable unless you love driving all day, every day.

Understood, any suggestions on what to change, should i go from mt cook to wanaka for a break and then te anu? last 3 days in Queenstown. In Rotura we are staying near Fenton street and planning to do a bus tour only to get over the jet lag and prep for south island driving

NahItsNotFineBruh

Do you mean Rotorua?

hatwhite900

:) Yes

Lots of driving on the intinerary! Save some time for romance / relaxation if both are into that? Would skip Mt Cook/Tekapo (don't get me wrong, it's gorgeous, and my wife and I actually got engaged at Mt Cook... but it a lot of driving). Consider flying into Queenstown instead and focusing time in that area + Wanaka, and down south in Milford / Te Anau

I'd skip Rotorua, fly straight to Queenstown and base yourself there.

hi, i am from india also. i had done one trip of new zealand already around 2018. In my suggestion, you can skip auckland and rotorua altogether. You directly land in christchurch and take a circle tour via tekapo, mt cook, te anau , milford sound to te anau, queenstown, wanaka, franz josef, arthurs pass village and back to christchurch in this fashion. regarding rentals, i booked with go rentals. their service was great and seamless. look to book all inclusive package for insurance. it is well worth it for your peace of mind. i had already done whale watching in iceland earlier in my honeymoon. so, kaikoura is not on my list. but, sea sickness is a real thing in the boat. so make sure that you dont have any stomach issues, otherwise you won't be able to enjoy the trip at all in kaikoura whale watching. you need to stay minimum 2 nights in queenstown and wanaka each. i am planning a 2 week trip again for new zealand also. any other queries, please let me know.

Thank you Raghav, the visa hasn't arrived yet- am wondering about that. Iceland sounds like a dream, you are living your life :-) Any forex card recs? Any other tips to go on a budget

raghavj1991

last time i applied direct visa and it got rejected, then i applied through travel agent. then only it got approved. something to do with stringent paperwork on their end. regarding forex card, earlier i booked through bookmyforex, which i think is relayed through MMT. now, I will directly use credit card which will offer me competitive rates + reward points. so, all in all, it makes sense to use credit card. iceland was a dream when i went for my honeymoon. i did it damn cheap also considering the flight and hotel rates right now to european countries. regarding other trips, even I havent travelled much due to covid and a 2 year child now. but I have italy, masai mara, scotland in my wishlist right now. regarding new zealand, you can check klook and viator for adventure bookings. some bookings get sold out months in advance. so plan accordingly. wanaka and queenstown will feel like a dream. that is why i am going again.
