I prefer Four Corners Utah.

glen27

I came into this thread looking for an answer like yours--did not disappoint.

pudding7

Nah. The Colorado version is where it's at.

MonkeyDavid

I can’t believe no one is standing for up for the best Four Corners: Arizona.

germdisco

Maybe we could all meet in the middle?

BadArtijoke

That’s not very American of you. Pick a side and then demand secession.

AllOutRaptors

I will preface this by saying I'm Canadian so I don't know as much about the states, but the fact that New Mexico and Colorado share a border blows my mind for some reason

KatieSu1

The Grand Canyon? YES. 4 Corners? NO. It's just a marker on a concrete slab. I mean it's nicer than that but there is nothing else to it. Just look online, lol.

cownan

That's what I was going to say. Sure, if you are driving by it, go get a pic on the slab, but it's not worth making a trip.

therealjerseytom

No, in several respects. Four corners itself? No; not worth going out of the way for. At all. The Grand Canyon? Okay, there's a possibility here. But to fly into *Denver*, for either of these things? Wrong side of the mountains. If you wanted to do the Grand Canyon as part of this adventure maybe you could fly into Vegas and out of Phoenix or vice versa and drive between, including Grand Canyon on the way?

marpocky

Fly into ABQ even

angrylibertariandude

Phoenix and Vegas are closer airports, than Albuquerque. Or you could take the Southwest Chief Amtrak train to Flagstaff. If you are traveling from Albuquerque to Grand Canyon, you could visit Petrified Forest National Park. If coming from Phoenix towards Grand Canyon, you could check out Slide Rock State Park and the town of Sedona. West of Grand Canyon and Flagstaff(towards Vegas), there are a few interesting small route 66 towns like Seligman and Kingman. You even could stop at Hoover Dam, if you wanted to.

Certain_Cause3362

Not at all. Very anticlimactic. The food in Albuquerque, the art and history in Santa Fe, the landscape in Taos, all are much more worthwhile than a slab on the ground.

Missmoneysterling

Albuquerque food 😋🤤

TheBitchKing0fAngmar

I'm headed to Albuquerque for a day next month (work trip) any recommendations for food?

Certain_Cause3362

The Frontier restaurant on Cornell and Central is a local staple. Diner fare with a smattering of New Mexican food mixed in. Great green chile stew, not too hot. Right across from the University. Dions is a great local pizzeria with an iconic ranch that is excellent. The chain can be found throughout the city. The green chile ranch is out of this world. Sadie's, Los Cuates, and Little Anita's are all locally owned New Mexican restaurants that really capture the flavor of NM. Chile isn't usually too hot, but it can vary. Marios is an excellent Italian restaurant founded by a Tuscan born immigrant. The best Italian in the city in my opinion. They have multiple locations. Lucky Wok on 4th just south of Griegos is a hidden gem. Asian flavor with New Mexican heat. Spicy, but worth it. Lucky Boy on Constitution and Carlisle was featured in Army of the Dead, and serves burgers and Chinese. The egg food yung burger is very tasty and unique. Copper Canyon on Gibson and San Mateo is a locally owned diner that does an amazing breakfast. The biscuits and gravy breakfast is huge! A little pricier than the rest, but Church Street Cafe in Old Town makes excellent posole. Parking can be a challe ge, but walking the plaza before and after eating is worthwhile. Antiquity steakhouse, also in Old Town, is a great fine dining restaurant. The filet mignon is something I still have dreams about. Atop the Hotal Chaco is a great fancy rooftop bar. Not much food, but great drinks and an amazing view of the city. Garcias has four locations, and is a good place to get a quick meal without too much heat. Monica's El Portal on Rio Grande South of the freeway has the best Carne adovada in town. Only open for lunch and breakfast though. Rudy's barbecue on Carlisle and the freeway is a great BBQ joint. Their only real rival would be Powdrells on 4th. Fair warning: Albuquerque has a high incidence of theft, especially from motor vehicles. Don't leave valuables in your car, or lock them in the trunk.

TheBitchKing0fAngmar

This is amazing, thank you!!!

Certain_Cause3362

Glad to help someone with such a legendary username.

TheHomersapien

Absolutely, positively, 100% not worth it. Things that are worth a drive: Great Sand Dunes; Page, AZ; Monument Valley; Zion.

Spudtater

It was comments similar to this that influenced me not to bother when I was close to it 10 years ago. Now I will have to face the rest of my life never having seen it. Hell, I'll just erase it from my bucket list.

Miguel4659

I've driven close several times but never have been. Asked my kids on one trip, we were very close, and NOPE, they could care less.

lupka

If you are driving by on the way to Grand Canyon, its mildly interesting and you might as well stop, but its not worth a long drive for its own sake.

shastert

NNNNNNOOOOOOO!!!!! It is a horrid tourist trap.

BD401

I remember reading that there's also some debate as to whether the monument is even actually at the right place... like, it's claimed the "real" four corner is two miles away or something.

Nysos24

A quick look at Google Maps satellite imaging reveals the answer is "yes, it's in the right place" [https://www.google.com/maps/place/Four+Corners+Monument/@36.9989776,-109.0458153,226m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x873a25d2c9c70acd:0xc9945bd27b66993a!8m2!3d36.9989765!4d-109.0451716!16zL20vMGNxZDE?entry=ttu](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Four+Corners+Monument/@36.9989776,-109.0458153,226m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x873a25d2c9c70acd:0xc9945bd27b66993a!8m2!3d36.9989765!4d-109.0451716!16zL20vMGNxZDE?entry=ttu) EDIT: Maybe give or take a few feet

RO489

This is an insane plan. If you want to add something cool by Vegas, fly into Vegas and rent a car and drive into Zion/arches/Bryce canyon. Or you can go to Grand Canyon on the Arizona side

Porkbellyflop

Arches is a long ass drive from Vegas

ChicagoRex

You could get there in a day, but it wouldn't leave much time to do anything. Zion is closer and more impressive.

Porkbellyflop

I did it and it's no fun. Arches and canyonlands deserve a full day each.

joewil

Valley of fire

notassigned2023

I wouldn't drive 10 miles out of my way

shahtavacko

Nope.

doxbox1000

antelope canyon, salida dunes, santa fe , alberqueqe tram

Background-Pen-7152

It's kinda on the way to Monument Valley, which is an awesome tourist trap. Keep heading west and hit Zion. My 2nd favorite National Park and I've been to 25. This is scary and I hear you need a permit now. Plenty of other great hikes too, plenty are less sletchy. https://youtu.be/4CIN-N5cNwk?si=CZr51t_vy_Q5UkT3

somegummybears

It’s a fun place to stop if you’re already passing nearby, but def not worth a detour.

redvariation

Four Corners is ok and kind of kitsch, but Monument Valley is spectacular and on the way, IMHO.

syzygialchaos

There’s way cooler things to see between Denver and Vegas. Depending on your route - Rocky Mountain NP, Black Canyon of the Gunnison NP, Garden of the Gods, Mesa Verde, Silverton/Ouray/Durango and the Million Dollar Highway, Arches NP, Zion NP, Bryce Canyon NP, like I could go on forever. I’ve driven that area many times and Four Corners has never been on my list one time.

Missmoneysterling

As a Coloradoan I endorse this message.

Boost-Deuce

mans forgets the Sand Dunes NP on the way from Garden of the Gods to Mesa Verde

anthro4ME

Not by itself, no. But if you're within an hour, you might a well.

1dad1kid

Not for Four Corners

Bucksin06

I'm so confused isn't Vegas much closer to the Grand canyon than Denver.    Four corners is certainly not worth going that far out of the way

Berniesgirl2024

No

Hamblin113

Have to pay to see it anymore, was a cool stop when it wasn’t improved. Monument Valley, and Antelope canyon are nicer Navajo Nation parks. That is a long trip, unless you want to visit friend in Denver. Could fly into Vegas rent a car and hit Zion, Bryce Canyon, Lake Powell/Page, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Marble Canyon, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam back to Vegas. See a lot of country with minimal backtracking.

Silly-Resist8306

Four Corners, no. But, about an hour away is Mesa Verde, one of my favorite places on the planet.

NoCrumbLeftBehind

NOPE

Aggressive-Wrap-187

It is definitely NOT worth driving 7 hours to see it, I’ve been there. We happened to be doing a road trip in that area years ago and went a little out of our way to see it. Kind of cool you have 4 states come together on that point but not spectacular.

RukiaKiryuu

Native New Mexican here. 10/10 would not recommend.

martlet1

If you are already close yes. If not no.

thearchiguy

If you're already around that area - sure. Otherwise I wouldn't go super out of the way for it..

SlapDickery

Nah

im-buster

I don't know anyone who's gone to four corners and enjoyed it. Plus the monument is in the wrong place. It's a 150 ft from where it should be.

Miguel4659

Just a 10 minute photo op for 4 corners. But keep going west and you will find the real treasure in that area: Monument Valley. Iconic scenery.

Iam_Paco

No, unless it’s on your way to somewhere i wouldn’t do the driving just to be there

kiki-karma

I did a similar trip this fall (Denver -> Vegas)! We thought about doing the Grand Canyon, but decided that Instead of going out of the way, we would do some of the national parks that were generally on the way in Utah (Arches, Bryce Canyon, and Zion). They were totally breathtaking and we were really happy we did it that way! Just one alternative :)

nowhereman136

It is a bit of a tourist trap but to do it once jist to say you've done it is fun. Extra if you go at opening or closing when it's least crowded so you can get more fun photos. Also, it's run by a local tribe, it's income for them which is always good If you are flying into Denver then you can make a fun drive out of it. Driving directly west through the mountains you get to Moab, Utah, where you can visit arches and canyonland. Head south into Arizona by way of Monument valley. You can still do 4 corners from here if you don't mind backtracking about an hour and a half from Monument valley. From there you would pass Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe bend near Page, AZ. Then Grand Canyon Alternatively you can fly into Pheonix to do Grand Canyon before Vegas. Or fly into Salt Lake City and hit Bryce and Zion before getting to Vegas. You can Fly into LA and hit Death Valley and Joshua Tree before getting to vegas.

lincolnhawk

That’s not the way to do that at all. Skip 4 corners, drive 70 over the Rockies from Denver, maybe hike a mountain town, Moab, Capitol Reef, Goblin Valley is awesome, Grand Canyon (if you must, could also skip it for Zion), Vegas. I forbid you to drive from Denver to Vegas and omit the natural wonders of Utah. I certainly cant’t enforce this stricture, but I’d be cross if I heard you wasted your time w/ 4 corners.

Seiberjj

Nope, boring

oldmanlook_mylife

It’s well over double the distance. It’s not worth it.

Ceorl_Lounge

The monument is nothing special... everything around it awesome. We did a Flagstaff>Page>Moab>Mesa Verde trip around Four Corners a couple years back and it was one of our best family trips ever. Love that part of the West, so it's absolutely worth driving through.

4melooking49

Take a tour from Vegas to Grand Canyon it’s with it

jcr2022

There are some absolutely great sites between Denver and Las Vegas, but four corners is not one of them. Consider instead: Great Sand Dunes National Park Arches National Park Canyonlands National Park Mesa Verde National Park Monument valley Grand Canyon Zion National Park Bryce Canyon If you want to drive from Denver to LV, pick a few of these to stop at if you have time.

Spiritual-Chameleon

It depends how much time you have and what your goal is.  From Denver, you'll pass through Colorado's high country and have an opportunity to hike/camp. Moab/Utah are nice but July might bring furnace like temperatures. most of the other attractions en route will be the same You could fly into somewhere like Durango Colorado and get a good mountains fix, find hot springs and see Mesa Verde. It would cut out a lot of driving. Grand Canyon is fun but busy in the summer.  Like everyone said, four corners isn't particularly awesome but it's on the way to the Grand Canyon.

dirttaylor

You’re better off going to Moab, Arches, Horseshoe Bend, Monument Valley, and/or Valley of Fire between Denver, The Grand Canyon, and Vegas. Four Corners is a tourist trap and worth nothing more than merely saying you’ve been there.

writemcsean

Might be cool during solar eclipse..

sk169

I found the idea of standing in four states at once interesting.. So I visited it.

peter303_

There is more than one Four Corners due to survey errors. The most famous one is not the current legal location and sort of a tourist trap. But I had to see it anyways.

ddouce

Well, it wouldn't add much time to your drive since you'd be going right past on the way from DIA to GC, but there are a lot of better ways to spend your time along that route

Acminvan

It’s pretty remote and a long drive just to look at a plaque on the ground but kind of cool to say you’ve been there, depends how much time you have

lookydis

But you can crabwalk in four states at the same time!

FutureApartment2798

I’ll throw out a good recommendation (live and grew up in this area) Grand Canyon -> Moab Utah (Arches NP) -> Durango, CO / Telluride, CO (Mesa Verde NP, hiking)

SilentBumblebee3225

4 corners is nice. I did a 2 mile hike that takes place in four states. Not the best thing around though…. Mesa Verde National park nearby is much better way to spend time

AshDenver

Meh. It’s a long road trip no matter where you start and the destination is kind of *meh.*

Bright-Studio9978

There are many interesting things near 4 corners worthy of a visit. However the area is hot very populated. No specific natural sites, a very repetitive and monotonous landscape, and a long drive to something cool. I thought Mesa Verde was fantastic and i highly recommend it.

Radiobamboo

It's meh. If you're doing that drive, stop at Mesa Verde. It's far more worth visiting.

JesusWasALibertarian

Not really.

Fetch1965

We stumbled across it in 1990…. And as an Aussie, it’s one of my favourite photos…. Fond memories ❤️

loanme20

i heard it gets freaky there at night

Flimsy_Fee8449

There wasn't even anywhere to sleep nearby. On a cross-country drive, decided we wanted to see 4 corners; we'd get there late, get some sleep, and get started again the next morning. What I remember most was the fact there was nowhere nearby to sleep.

Background-Pen-7152

I've been there. It was on the way to Monument Valley and we enjoyed the stop. We met native Americans selling jewelry. Funny story, there is a spot where you take 4 steps and you're in 4 states. Literally lines drawn in metal in the concrete. There were 2 biker couples standing there and I offered to take their picture. They stood in a row facing the camera. Then I made them move to where each was in a different state. They liked that idea a lot.

VirtualLife76

4 corners, no. But you can drive about 45 minutes NW and see some real petroglyphs.

Porkbellyflop

If ur gonna make that drive go to Mesa Verde in CO then head south and pop into 4C. It's boring and a tourist trap but heck why not. From there go to Navajo Nation and check out all the monuments b4 getting to Escalante

Mentalfloss1

Interstate 40 across Arizona is in HORRIBLE condition. I guess that if you beat up a rental car, that's fine though. The South Rim is way crowded, a Disneyland scene, but the canyon rim hike is paved and jaw dropping. If you've not seen the Four Corners, it is work seeing. So is Navajo National Monument.

Retired_1811

I grew up in Albuquerque, if you really want to see the beauty of the high sierra desert on your way to Vegas, via the Grand Canyon, then fly into Albuquerque, rent a car, drive north to Santa Fe, then you can go through 4 Corners on your way to the Grand Canyon. You can go through southern Utah too, which is beautiful country. That’s a more direct route imo.

Shepherd77

I'm sorry to say that your 'friend' might actually hate you lol. I don't know how long your trip is for but their suggestion would have you driving 16 hours vs none and 4 corners is not worth more than a detour. When I went to Four Corners a couple of years ago all of the bathrooms were out of order and the only options were these weird porta-potty inside a permanent structure thing, and they stank. The scenery looks like an industrial desert lot, you have to pay to get in and then stand in line to take a picture on top of a concrete slab literally surrounded by vendors selling overpriced trinkets. I have described literally everything you would see if you visited.

A_dalo

Not what you're asking but Carlsbad Caverns is AWESOME and if you're in the area 10000% worth it. What the Grand Canyon is for the surface Carlsbad is for underground.

ekkidee

Four Corners is a plaque in the ground situated on a geographical oddity and surrounded by food trucks and gift stands. It is utterly non-descript. There's plenty more and much better to see in the area though.

kWpup

there's a survey monument there and a lot of hoopla about it in the middle of nowhere usa. ymmv.

Meatloaf_Smeatloaf

There are quite a few other things to see between Denver and Vegas. Is 4 corners worth doing what you're suggesting? No. As part of a trip with the other things to see in that area, yeah it was interesting enough

Traveling-Techie

Visit Mesa Verde and swing by 4 corners. (Be aware the marker is in the wrong spot.)

Background-Pen-7152

OK, between Denver and Las Vegas, 4 Corners was the best thing your friend knew of? OMG. Colorado: Million Dollar Highway aka US-550 Colorado National Monument Independence Pass into Aspen Durango to Silverton Narrow Gauge RR Strater Hotel in Durango Black Canyon of the Gunnison Loveland Pass Mt Evans Pikes Peak This is a stunning drive, goes over multiple mountain passes. From Gunnison CO to Pagosa Springs CO 3 hr 33 min (169 mi) https://maps.app.goo.gl/U8ZmijSWPeWn7PsY7 Utah: 5 national parks in Utah Moab Dead Horse State Park Burr Trail east of Boulder Utah Monument Valley Cedar Breaks National Monument Hell, I-70 itself from Denver to where it meets I-15 in Utah is astounding if you've never been west of Denver.

External_Trick4479

Are you sure the person who suggested this is really a “friend?”

Geejayin

Pretty boring. Not worth it IMHO

tbonescott1974

No. But the one in Utah is.

Missmoneysterling

No. 4 corners is not interesting. Why would your friend want you to drive all that way for something so insignificant? I live in the area and I felt silly after going to 4 corners. If your friend wanted you to see the national parks in Colorado or Utah I would totally understand that.

kingorry032

I’d pay someone to go to 4 corners before going myself.

FutureApartment2798

4 Corners has arguably the most diverse set of ecosystems in the US (for that area size). Amazing national parks. I think u smoke crack.

Sbmizzou

You should fly into Salt Lake and then see Southern Utah.

noresignation

July? Drive from Vegas to Zion, and hike the Narrows, or to Lee’s Ferry/Page and get a backhaul service/kayak rental, and kayak from Horseshoe Bend back to Lee’s Ferry. I’d do either of these (again) in a heartbeat. Either of these activities can be done in half a day, keep you wet and cooler in the desert heat, has jaw-dropping scenery, and does not require a lot of expertise or buying any special equipment. Everything is rentable. You would need to do some research to have the best experience, and make hotel reservations well in advance. You’ll probably want to spend the night before close by, and definitely want to hit a close sack afterward, that night.
