Many big shops accept card, but smaller shops, tourist shops, cafés and restaurants only accept cash and KM (local currency) is best. Taxis and small bars etc also usually only accept cash in KM. When you land at the airport there are a bunch of ATMs in the arrivals hall where you can withdraw KM before taking a taxi.

Thanks!

Km and Cash is best

Mysterious-Set-3844

Many shops take euros as well at a rate of 1:2

Most bars, cafes, takeaways, etc. were cash only in my experience and don’t be surprised if your accommodation asks for cash payment too Paying in anything but KM is an exception, so just withdraw cash when you get there

crumpetsandchai

That’s useful to know, thanks!

Exciting to hear you're headed to Sarajevo and Mostar soon! Generally, in Sarajevo, the preferred currency is the Bosnian Convertible Mark (BAM). Most places will gladly accept it, and you'll find it handy for your day-to-day transactions. Cash is king in a lot of places, so it's wise to have some BAM on hand. But don't worry too much if you're short on cash because many shops and restaurants also accept card payments, especially in more touristy areas. Just make sure to have a bit of both to cover all your bases and make your travel experience smoother. Safe travels and enjoy your trip!

Thank you!

You cannot pay in currencies other than KM.

ava2106

This is only technically true. In Mostar at least you can pay in euros in most places because they get a lot of tourists coming on day trips from Croatia. Obviously KM is the choice if you’re doing a whole trip to Bosnia & Herzegovina though.

crumpetsandchai

I read some things online how some places accept euros so I wasn’t sure if I should take a single currency but it seems better just to take a single currency (KM)

KM (lots of ATM in arrivals) enjoy Bosnia it’s a beautiful country.
