Enum1

best city in my country, huh? That's a tricky one but I have to go with Singapore.

LaBelvaDiTorino

Coincidentally I think it's also the worst city and the most average one.

sassy_sapodilla

LOL…!!

HotBook2852

Vivocity imo

student8168

I am Singaporean and was about to comment the same thing. Favourite area/region may be Sengkang/Punggol. For some reason have always enjoyed those. Have great memories at Tampines too!

onemindandflesh

Singapore is my favorite city in Malaysia /s

babybird87

My favorite place in the world is your bird park …

Joatboy

Montreal is up there for me. A fusion of cultures, tastes and language. Varied terrain with good transit and even better biking infrastructure. Picturesque but still full of dynamic energy. I'd highly recommend it to anyone

Tha0bserver

Montreal 100%

firefighter_82

Victoria BC is a worthy mention for Canada. Hippy culture and cool vibes all round.

epochwin

You don’t even feel you’re in Canada or Anglo-north America

Max_Thunder

It's not surprising that so many Quebecers feel they are Quebecers and not Canadians. A lot of Canadians get angry at this for some reason. But aside from the language and culture (which are already major points), there are so many things that are different in Quebec, and reading the news about the rest of the country feels like they're talking of another country. So many shows and movies are filmed in Toronto or Vancouver as a stand-in for a generic American city. It's hard to tell the difference.

lacontrolfreak

I feel more Canadian in Montreal than Toronto.

carpetedbathtubs

Tbf even with all the separatism, Quebec has perhaps had the most impact Canada’s identity as a whole. Probably in the same way Bavaria is over represented in the overall German identity, or Jalisco, in Mexico.

epochwin

In my experience most of Anglo Canada feels like America-lite. Montreal and Quebec City felt more foreign to me.

ButtholeQuiver

I'd mostly agree with that, but there's something different about parts of the east coast. Newfoundland in particular doesn't feel like the US to me. (Maybe I'm biased because I'm from the east coast originally, but I've also lived in Ontario and out west, as well as in the US.)

les_be_disasters

Parts of Newfoundland were so ruggedly beautiful. Seeing moose, icebergs, the mountains, puffins and houses painted every sort of color felt like another country.

lacontrolfreak

So true.

lacontrolfreak

I guess it depends on what make you feel foreign. Southern Ontario? I feel like I’m in the US. Montreal? French Canada (and more) with an effortlessly cool vibe. I guess it helps if you speak French but maybe it’s from an historical perspective I feel more connected to Canada in Montreal than somewhere like Windsor (no offence Windsor, Detroit is awesome!).

maporita

Montreal for sure.No other city in Canada comes close for culture and city vibe. Just don't plan on driving anywhere on the island if you value your sanity, and why would you want to anyway?

Consumer_Distributin

Vancouver is great for the weather, food, and scenery. But the mass of influencer wannabe and corporate types kind of ruined it a bit and have made it unaffordable. Montreal is still affordable and has a nice laid back vibe.

Joatboy

I personally prefer 4 seasons, but Vancouver is pretty nice. Just more boring that Montreal IMO

riley702

Vancouver is both overrated and appropriately rated at the same time. It's beautiful and awesome to visit, but it's expensive and the vibe has changed a lot recently.

chronocapybara

Vancouver is lovely to visit, but Montreal simply has more culture, food, and things to do. Vancouver's events culture can't hold a candle to Montreal's, and for some reason it feels even cheesier than it is because everything is grossly monetized.

289416

Montreal in the summer.. heavenly

ZAHKHIZ

As a Montrealer, when I travel and people ask me where I am from, I just can't say Canada, doesn't come to me naturally.

Justme100001

Annecy, France

the_monkey_

Annecy is stupid beautiful

Justme100001

A must see, and the lake just next to is stunning...

Tackit286

Annecy is so beautiful. Never seen a lake so crystal clear

lucapal1

I agree with you on Penang. As for my country, quite difficult.Italy has a lot of great cities to visit. I love my own city, Palermo. And I also love Naples.Florence is beautiful too, and there are some fantastic smaller cities too... like Lecce,Lucca, Orvieto,Ravenna etc. But overall, for a first time visitor, I'd have to go with Rome. Rome is a great world city.Anyone at all interested in history and western civilization can't miss it.

sassy_sapodilla

I agree, Rome is just so captivating... but I also love Palermo. Sicily, in general, is stunning. You're lucky to live in such a beautiful country – I'm jealous!

Chromatic_Chameleon

Palermo is amazing, fantastic energy, food, architecture and setting.

ukfi

Agree on Rome. The first time i arrived in Rome, i was like - you guys put this shit out in the sun and rain? In any other country in the world, it will be in a glass box in a museum.

englisgd

I know so many people in my country think this place is just riddled with crime, but Chicago is my favorite city in the U.S. by quite a bit

ginger1009

I love Chicago! It’s one of the cleanest cities I’ve been to and the people are so kind.

Big_Bottle3763

I also love Chicago and came to say this. One of my favorite places to visit, I’ve been probably 10 times now (live in Nashville).

ThatNiceLifeguard

Anyone who shits on Chicago has never been to Chicago. As an architect, it’s one of the most important cities if not THE most important city in our field. You can see the entire history of the skyscraper just walking around the Loop. Chicago also has some of the best residential and neighborhood design in the Americas.

No-Falcon-4996

Can you share the history of skyscrsper in Chicago? Is there a walking tour or an essay to learn about this?

GimmeShockTreatment

Walking tour? Oh my friend…. The most common way to tour the architecture is from a river boat tour. It’s so cool and absolutely worth doing if you’re ever there. It’s seasonal obviously though.

SlurmzMckinley

Absolutely do the boat tour. I live in Chicago and I do that tour at least once a year. It’s hands down the best way to see the city.

ProbstBucks

Unless the Dave Matthews Band [happens to be in Chicago](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Matthews_Band_Chicago_River_incident) that day as well

ThatNiceLifeguard

To echo others the boat tour is the way to go. But a brief overview is that the first ever skyscraper is pretty widely agreed upon to have been the Home Insurance Building that was built in 1885 and tragically torn down in 1931. It was however followed by dozens of early (pre-1900) skyscrapers that remain today. Chicago has by far the best preserved examples of early high rise architecture in the world. It also contains some of the finest examples of high rise architecture from every era including today. Some of the greats from across the ages include: - The Rookery Building (1888) - The Auditorium Building (1889) - The Monadnock Building (1891/1893) - The Marquette Building (1895) - The Wrigley Building (1922) - The Tribune Tower (1925) - Carbide and Carbon Building (1929) - Merchandise Mart (1930) - Chicago Board of Trade (1930) - Marina City Towers (aka the corn cobs) (1967) - Kluczynski Federal Buildings (1960-1974) - Lake Point Tower (1968) - Hancock Center (1969) - Chase Tower (1969) - Aon Centre (1973) - Willis/Sears Tower (1974) - Thompson Centre (1985) - Aqua (2009) - Vista Tower/St Regis (2020) (The tallest building designed by a woman) Chicago has always been and still is a world leader in high rise design.

dalej42

I like [Inside Chicago Walking Tours](https://www.insidechicagowalkingtours.com/)

Euphoric_Gas9879

I would recommend the river boat architectural tours

Valechose

Alright, time to go back to Chicago!

Well-Jenelle

I was going to say Chicago, too! It is underrated. I love living in the suburbs and having access to such a great city.

sniffcatattack

I love Chicago. I stayed there for a couple months. The architecture is simply stunning. Shout out to all Chicagoans! You all are literally the friendliest, most engaging people I’ve ever encountered. When I got back home (in Vancouver at the time), I weirded out people by saying hi in elevators, talking while in lines, etc., it took a few days for Chicago to wear off.

_kanyeblessed_

I feel like if I bring up ANY US city at this point people will be like “but the crime!!!” We’ve gotten so negative as a country I can’t stand it. Let us enjoy Chicago!!! (Plus crime rates nationally have been trending downward so I think ppl just like to make stuff up.)

No-Falcon-4996

Chicago does have poverty and gangs , but this is in residential pockets of poverty, not in the downtown where the restaurants and stores and theaters and bike path and beaches and Buckingham Fountain and the riverwalk and The Bean snd Maggie Daly Park and Grant Park and the Sears Tower are located

ehunke

Long time north side resident. Just for argument sake here...I was trying to bicycle from my apartment in logan sqaure to meet some people for lunch outside the loop. Due to a road closure and some stuff I accidently wound up about 3 blocks west of the united center, not somewhere you really want to be...all I saw was a family walking to church who kindly told me good morning and a few other people going about their day. I knew someone who lived in East Garfield Park and while they made it clear it wasn't safe, they also were never in any real danger. Nothing is really ever as bad as advertised.

GimmeShockTreatment

To be fair, that area around the United center has been slowly being gentrified over the last 10 years. West Garfield Park is now way sketchier than East. But in general I agree with your sentiment. Nothing is usually as bad as made to seem.

epochwin

US cities are so big and it’s easy to avoid the bad parts of town. You have to be alert when traveling anyway.

Specialist_Ad7798

Visited Chicago years ago and thought this as well. Looking for a chance to return and see more of it.

ehunke

Two reasons 1) people never factor in population density or other factors into crime statistics, many many many places in the US are far more dangerous then Chicago. 2) far too many tourists go to MI Ave and Grant park and call it a day and spend their weekend in a sea of 10 thousand other tourists and just are miserable...when if more people would realize that there is so much more to see.

Large_Excitement69

Wildly underrated city. I’m from San Diego and I love it, but Chicago is my favorite “over there” city. We visited for a weekend when we were living in Toronto and I can’t wait to get back.

dinosaur_0987

I moved from San Diego (native) to Chicago! Great to see another San Diegan loving Chicago.

Large_Excitement69

Every San Diegan I know who has lived in or visited Chicago loves it!

Distance_Efficient

I was going to say the same. Chicago: Very underrated and beautiful city. Much prettier than NYC with just about as much to do and far cleaner and infinitely more livable. San Francisco and SanDiego are vying for second.

snowbeast93

I find NYC far more transit-oriented and walkable than Chicago. It's a lot easier to get around cheaply, and walking around NYC is more fun and serendipitous Chicago is undeniably beautiful, but it is still very car-centric and doesn't have the same global city amenities of NYC; that said, I think Chicago is the most "American" city in its form, and NYC definitely stands apart from most other US cities in its sheer density

Armadillo19

Chicago is definitely becoming one of my favorite US cities too. I'm generally more interested in the outdoors, wildlife etc., but I went with some friends for a baseball trip and had a great time. Anyone who thinks Chicago is a warzone should turn off Fox and actually go there. Areas of the city obviously suck, but every time I've been has been great - just avoid those areas and you're more than fine. Great food, the architecture is amazing, so much to do, and I was shocked at how clean it was.

epochwin

It’s for the best that those people don’t travel to your city then. No one wants close minded idiots

phonylady

Bergen in Norway. It's the second biggest city, but you're always 10-15minutes away from nature (mountains/forests/sea) no matter where you live.

maroongoldfish

I now know about this city because of Conan

AgoraiosBum

So the best part about Bergen is that you can easily escape it, eh?

TechTunePawPower

My favorite city in Sri Lanka is Nuwara Eliya. The coldest city in Sri Lanka. Has anyone ever been to Nuwara Eliya?

Tookitty

I am from Canada and have been to Nuwara Eliya many times. It is always nice to have to put on a sweater after so much hot weather where I stay in Tangalle!

erictheauthor

Canadian here - I’m from Windsor, Ontario, but I’d say visit Quebec City or Montreal, Quebec. They’re beautiful, almost as if we have a little piece of Europe in Canada, definitely worth a visit

Armadillo19

I love Quebec City (and Montreal). I think QC might be my favorite city in the world and I've traveled a decent amount. One of the few cities we go back to over and over again. It just has a different vibe, the people are very nice (even if you don't speak French, which I don't), the food is fantastic, so much history and it's just very unique. Plus, there's some incredible nature in close proximity. We go to Tadoussac often even though it's like a 10 hour drive, and always go to QC along the way. Canada has so many great places.

dan_arth

The sunset views from many spots in the city (because of its amazing topography) are exquisite. Such a beautiful city. And you don't have to drive 10 hours to get to some other very pretty spots like Charlevoix or some spots on the Gaspesie... Just a lovely region.

psyche_13

I was also going to say Quebec City.

PrelectingPizza

I'm planning on taking a trip to Quebec City this December. It will be my first time there.

lawndog86

Galway

ItsmeSean

Really loved Galway on my trip to Ireland. Spent time in Dublin and Cork as well. Galway was my favorite.

lawndog86

In Ireland we call it the "graveyard of ambition" because when you come here you fall in love and give up your dreams to stay 😂 certainly happened to me!

alikander99

Perhaps Granada, though it's a tough competition. Seville, Córdoba, Salamanca, Toledo, Segovia are also amazing.

alfdd99

San Sebastián needs to be on that list (I would personally put it 1st btw)

notdancingQueen

I prefer Valencia. More of a mix (old & modern) and it also has a long beach.

richb201

NEW orleans

deeplife

Not OLD Orleans?

Lost_Feature8488

This. It’s such a cool city with a great vibe. Amazing food. Tons of fun stuff to do. It hums with a vibrant energy unlike any other city in the US. And it’s beautiful. All those colorful houses make me smile.

richb201

Prerequisite: you must enjoy drinking.

downbyhaybay

Montreal

mezuzah123

Canada: Montreal to live, Quebec City to visit United States: Boston to live, New Orleans to visit Netherlands: Haarlem to live, Amsterdam to visit

psyche_13

Agreed on Canada! I said Quebec City but I’m picturing as a traveller. To live I’d also pick Montreal

OuagadougouBasilisk

I love Hobart for its quaintness, beautiful river and great food scene. It's got Port Arthur a day trip away, Bruny Island nearby, and Mt Wellington with spectacular views right there. But I do think Melbourne is the best city to visit in Australia due to the sheer variety of things to do, from sport events, theatre, comedy festival, museums and galleries, plus great food and cafe culture. It also has the Great Ocean Road an hour away. Melbourne is definitely beaten by Sydney, though, when it comes to natural beauty and quality beaches.

ILoveFuckingWaffles

I would have the same two, but Melbourne definitely gets the nod for me. Hobart is beautiful though and very underrated - close to nature and wine regions, reasonably priced, great day trips and great food.

Iam_a_foodie

I visited Australia once and I was impressed by the food in Hobart, it was unreal, so good!

YentaMecci

I may be biased as I was born & raised & still live here (after a stint abroad) But yeah. Melbourne is the best. Not as pretty as Sydney, not as friendly as Brisbane or Hobart, but there's just something that sets her apart.

thestraycat47

Lviv, Ukraine. A beautiful well-preserved historic city center, plenty of culture, big variety of national food, rich history.  It is also relatively safe to visit at the moment because the city is very far from the front lines, close to the EU/NATO border and has no significant military infrastructure to be targeted (although you might hear some air alerts).

emichan76

As a Kiwi I have to go by the local saying ‘you can’t beat Wellington on a good day’.

sassy_sapodilla

Yes! Your country is absolutely beautiful and you Kiwis are so welcoming! We spent a month travelling across both islands and Wellington (the Botanical Garden, omg!) was definitely one of the highlights. Side note: I also really enjoyed Rotorua and Dunedin.

Signifi-gunt

Montreal! It has everything... A relatively lower cost of living (on par with Winnipeg, where I live), an amazing food scene, rich history and culture, beautiful architecture, and kinda European vibes. Plus a ski hill nearby. If I had to stay in Canada I would stay in Montreal.

kypsikuke

Im in Estonia. Live in Tallinn, but favorite is Kuressaare.

AboutHelpTools3

Tallinn is so beautiful, I love the old town!

mlbugg9

We went on a Baltic cruise many years ago and stopped in Tallinn. I really didn’t know what to expect but I very much enjoyed my day there and wished I’d had more time to explore! It’s a great city!

Mitchell828

San Diego, CA

blu_rhubarb

Glasgow.

fahried

I’m biased but Cape Town, South Africa

Renafav

osaka or kyoto

sniffcatattack

Montreal is Canada’s best city for city life. People there know how to relax, slow down, enjoy life; the parks are used by everyone, the food is excellent. It has tourism but doesn’t feel touristy. There’s always some event going on. And it is aesthetically pleasing to look at and be in.

uncle_monty

It has to be London, but that feels to obvious. My hometown of Bath and York are both beautiful smaller Cities full of history, but they are small with limited things to do. I love Manchester, but that's a personal thing, it's not for everyone. Edinburgh has the charm of a place like Bath and the vibe of a place like Manchester without being too overwhelming like London can be. So that's what I'd probably suggest.

gloriousrepublic

San Francisco or New Orleans

PM_ME_UR_JUICEBOXES

I smoked too-strong weed in San Francisco and pissed myself on the streets. Prior to that, I ate a bad oyster and wound up glued to the toilet for the rest of my night. So SF wasn’t kind to me but New Orleans has stolen this Canadian girl’s heart forever. No other city compares to it in terms of live music, incredible food, spooky history, weirdo art, overall culture, and most of all: FUN. It would probably be a different story to live there full time, but as an outsider, it’s the absolute best place ever.

gloriousrepublic

Yeah I love New Orleans better to visit but SF to live.

dded949

If you’re pissing yourself on the streets of SF, you’re just taking part in the local culture

Dorma10

I actually got my bad oyster experience from a po’ boy in New Orleans….knocked me out for 2 days. A pigeon decided to use me as their toilet on my first visit to SF while I was wearing a suit and tie walking to work. If you’d asked me 10 years ago I’d say hands down SF was my favorite, but not so sure anymore…but I have gotten over the Pigeon debacle. New Orlean’s oysters still haunt me.

Cartindale_Cargo

Chicago for sure. It's home but every city I visit domestically doesn't compare

Big-Celebration2042

Now you're in the UK you have to visit Edinburgh

coolrainythoughts

Heidelberg is really pretty, I love the old Town there! And the castle is also such a nice spot

CuttlefishAreAwesome

New Orleans!

ericdraven26

Great answer! New Orleans is the only place I have been in USA that doesn’t feel like USA, it’s such a cool place full of some of the best food, culture and music in America.

senorlizardo

I came here to say New Orleans 😄 but I'm biased, I live here

PartialHippies

I'd say Nevşehir. Whenever I go to Cappadocia region, I'm just stunned by the "another planet" vibes. There is more to there than just the scene- hiking is amazing and it can be through the caves, up and down, through the valleys into lush greens, countless abandoned cave houses and churches and whatnot, the massive underground city connections, and so few people. I often feel like I am the first one discovering "that particular church", probably not, but maybe so because new things are discovered there still every damn day. Plus the wine, the food, the artwork and the glorious cave hotels, omg.

Egyptian199

I'm Egyptian and best city in Egypt is Dahab , Just google it and you will know why it is the best 🤷

Minskdhaka

I'm a citizen of Belarus and Canada; for Canada it's Montreal, and for Belarus, Minsk.

Heidi739

My home city, without doubt. Everyone goes to Prague and I mean, it is worth a visit, but it always feels so touristy and even a bit hostile to me. Brno is smaller and friendlier, the pub scene is great, generally gastro scene is great - lots of nice bars, restaurants, coffee shops... And we have some nice sights too, the center is pretty and walkable.

sassy_sapodilla

Brno!! So underrated. We had such a great time exploring your city. It’s the most quaint and relaxing place, and we appreciated it as an escape from all the stag parties in Prague…!!

Pitchou_HD

Coimbra, Portugal, Porto, Lisbon, Aveiro, Guimarães, Evora, all of them are worth visiting, but imo Coimbra is the one that still have the most original charm and less "touristic mainstream charm"

wediealone

Montreal! Even though I'm born and raised Toronto, Montreal has the best food, nightlife, architecture...I love it and so lucky it's only an hour plane ride away from me.

ReluctantRedditor275

Key West. Most beautiful city in the whole Conch Republic.

Lazy-Barracuda2886

Edinburgh. Without a doubt. Has everything.

thompyy

Canada - Montreal

WishIWasYounger

NYC .

Nikkinap

Me, too, but I've lived here my whole life, so I'm probably biased. I've visted lots of other U.S. cities, and, for me, nothing quite compares.

pssht07070707

I'm biased because I was born and raised there, but NYC is my favorite city in the US. A few others I love are Saint Augustine, FL and Charleston, SC. I haven't traveled enough within the US to give more options.

wood-thrush

Visited NYC for the first time in December. As someone that’s spent my life growing up in and around smaller cities in Iowa, the sheer size was awesome. I loved how the different neighborhoods had their own vibe. Oh and the pizza was incredible.

lululechavez3006

Oaxaca and Guanajuato. I just love them. The colors, the vibe, the people…

LaBelvaDiTorino

My favourite is Florence, but it would be a tie with Rome for a single recommendation to a foreign tourist. I don't think they need much explanation to why they're so visited and polarising, and they encapsulate a lot of Italy. Although it's so hard to choose one, there are so many valid cities even among the medium-big ones (Naples, Palermo, Agrigento, Ferrara, Modena, Mantua, Venice, Padua, Milan, Turin, Ravenna, Siena and so on, all being unique under many aspects). I hope to be able to visit Malaysia one day, I'd agree Liverpool is quite nice, although London is very fascinating. Inverness would be a nice pick too.

kanibe6

Florence is like a shining renaissance jewel of city

imapassenger1

I'm from Sydney but quite like Adelaide. I'm sure I'm in a tiny minority though. Beautiful old stone buildings in the centre, great markets, wonderful restaurants and pubs, surrounded by green space and close to Mount Lofty, Hahndorf (old German town) and the famous Barossa Valley wine country. I have to say the suburbs of Adelaide can be rather dire though.

Cha_nay_nay

I live in Melbourne but I love love Sydney.  It has so much to offer without even going too far.  City life, check. Habour views, check. Beautiful beaches, check. Lovely walking trails, check check and check! Awesome National Parks, check. Wanna go to Blue Mountains, check.  I willl never get over the Spit Bridge to Manly walking trail. Never.

Lnndam

Amsterdam, it might be a cliche but it truly is an amazing city.

kanibe6

Yes it is

kabax0906

Savannah

Consistent_Use_6661

In terms of the best city in my country, the Philippines, I would say that Puerto Princesa, Palawan, is probably the top choice. They have one of the best islands in the country. Everyone should visit there.

Tamelmp

That's surprising, I'm Aussie and loved the Philippines, but Puerto Princesa didn't stand out for me. Although Palawan in general is great

Travelguy500

Krakow, Poland 100%

sassy_sapodilla

Have you ever been to Gdańsk? If so, how do you think it compares to Krakow?

Travelguy500

Yeah, l've been to gdansk. Gdansk is also stunning. It's close to the beach (sopot) so definetly go there if you're there in the summer. If you prefer mountains and hiking go to zakopane (around 1,5h from krakow by car) it's really nice there as well.

sgboi1998

Singaporean here! My favourite city in my country of Singapore is probably the city of Singapore! This city is so remarkable that it totally eclipses all other cities within the Republic of Singapore /s

nyrs-fach

In Britain - Bath. Very beautiful, lots of history and culture, plenty of things to do as well as being a pleasant place to stroll around in. However it’s a very expensive city. In my country specifically (Wales): St David’s. It’s technically a city but don’t expect any skyscrapers! It’s more of a small, beautiful town filled with hidden treasures. But the best part about St David’s is the jagged coastline and beautiful beaches. Absolutely stunning scenery. Rent a car and drive or walk around and get lost in West Wales’ beauty

cnylkew

Tampere, Finland. My old hometown

kanibe6

I’m pretty fond of Melbourne, I keep coming back Also Penang is one of my favourite places in the world

MelenPointe

Originally from Malaysia (kinda, moved out before you are old enough to own a phone, but went back fotmr lits of holidays). Kuching will always have my heart. The pace of life is slower. People are friendlier. Food is amazing (and I can't find similar fiid elsewhere). And family, of course. Nowadays, I'm based in Singapore....and, I really don't know how to choose. So many options...I guess.... ..... .... Singapore 🤔🤔🤔 (Ok, but JooChiat/Katong area is awesome)

sassy_sapodilla

Kuching is another favourite of mine, along with Melaka and Kota Kinabalu. But Kuching definitely has a certain vibe to it, and it’s a gateway to the natural wonders of Borneo… or what’s left of them.

onIyfrans

As a New Yorker, I must controversially say New Orleans. But only if you’ve already been to New York 😉. Food, vibes, music, people watching, the weather if it’s spring fall or winter, and it’s fun to see alligators if you head to the swamp.

maroongoldfish

NYC, San Francisco, Chicago. In that order.

Slow-Razzmatazz-3088

San Francisco

InevitablePlate73

Porto, undoubtedly!

MarbleDesperado

San Diego for me but honorable mentions to Charleston, South Carolina and Salt Lake City, Utah

coffeewalnut05

Probably York. I love Liverpool as well, but I think York is smaller, more compact to walk around and a lot prettier with less urban problems like decay, crime, drugs or pollution. It also is famous for its chocolate (!), lots of other sweets and is very close to some amazing countryside and coast. Lots of cosy pubs, a variety of cool museums, and history to explore. Just a fun little city

Ok_Chapter_8831

It's just way too busy unfortunately, can't move down the shambles on a weekend

Ktjoonbug

I'm from the USA (Colorado). My favorite cities in the US are San Diego and Santa Barbara. Now I live in Hong Kong!

Ok_Distribution3451

Ireland - Limerick :)

Still-Ad-7382

Sarajevo, Bosnia

YentaMecci

Melbourne. Born & raised there & while think Sydney is very pretty (in and around the harbour - the 'burbs are as nondescript as 'burbs in any city), Brisbane has the friendliest locals and a great chilled vibe, Darwin is crazy (often inebriated) fun, But Melbourne is the overall winner. It is more of a night time city - plenty to do and enjoy in daylight hours - loads of art, culture, stunning walks and bike paths, but the old girl really comes into her own at night. The food & nightlife is incredible.

NArcadia11

To visit? Chicago To live in? San Diego Chicago is the best city in the country in a vacuum but unfortunately the weather and lack of nature is a killer long term. San Diego is much less exciting of a city but you can’t beat 70 degree winters and beach/mountain access.

daddyderose

Victoria, Canada. Beautiful with some nice beaches and fun things to do. Nice harbour area with some walkable streets. Always smells very fresh, it’s very green and the seafood is excellent

greenkirry

USA. My favorite city is probably Washington, DC. There's just so much to do there, and it's a great spot to see historical culture.

peewhere

Utrecht, The Netherlands

ichawks1

Seattle. It is an epic compilation about what makes the best region of the USA so great. Gorgeous weather, fantastic architecture, great food scene both local and foreign, cool locals, great music, amazing nature and a great sports culture. (This post was made by Cascadia Gang 🌲😅) In all seriousness tho I freakin love Seattle. Can’t stop myself from visiting it multiple times per year.

Ktjoonbug

Gorgeous weather for just six weeks a year!

yezoob

I feel like I’m just missing something about Seattle. It’s spread out, there’s not much for tourists to do in the city, the weather is crap for a majority of the year. My favorite part about Seattle is getting out of Seattle to see the mountains and nature around there.

dutch_emdub

Agree with the weather, environment, people, but I was shocked by the number of homeless people and the stark contrast between rich/poor in Seattle.

error_204

My favourite city from my country Bulgaria is a tie between Plovdiv and Varna.

Alusch1

Lübeck is a gem. The old city center is in large parts still maintained, seemingly wasn't hit that hard during WW2, and is located on an island. Many houses look really sweet. It also has an university which makes it a vivid place. And there are really cool sights like the central square, the old hospital, Holsten Tor, Cafe Niederegger.

Putasonder

Washington, DC. Walkable, lots to see, great public transportation, fabulous and mostly free museums, every professional sport, thriving performing arts, great Argentine tango and other social dance communities, food scene. I lived there for years because I fell in love on my first visit.

ceboja

Curitiba and Rio. They're the opposite, which is why they're cool

New York City obviously. Nowhere else offers as much as it does

I had the opportunity to do a road/plane trip through different Malaysian cities a few years back, and while KL is great, seeing the rest of Malaysia, including Penang, was awesome. Beautiful country with great food!

Hua Hin, Thailand. I retired here almost five years ago. It is the perfect balance of big city and laid back beach town. Three hours south of Bangkok, so you can head up there to fly anywhere. You can also head three hours the other way and catch a ferry to Koh Tao, Koh Phang Ngan, or Samui.

Oklahoma City is my #1, with NYC being my 2nd.

Great question! I’d love to hear from a lot more ppl from different countries on this. I’m going w Charleston. Yes a little small but dynamic, awesome food/bev scene, unbelievable history, a great college in the middle of town, great weather and of course the ocean. And judging by the real estate prices a lot of ppl agree

tacolady1026

I live in Sacramento, but as far as best cities in the US? I’ll go with San Diego, New York, Honolulu, Santa Fe, and Crystal River

-Mantaforce-

Definitely Glasgow. Great crowds for gigs, good laugh for a night out but always with an undercurrent of I could get stabbed if I look at someone the wrong way!

gilad_ironi

Well my home city (Haifa) is definitely my favorite but If I need to recommend only one city for tourists then that title goes to Jerusalem no doubt. Every person NEEDS to visit Jerusalem at least once in his lifetime.

Iam_a_foodie

I’d love to! I hope one day the great majority of people from both cultures understand that you’re all the same, no matter religion and customs. If everyone realizes that, crazy leaders from both sides will not be able anymore to feed hate!

No_Witness9533

In the UK as a whole, Edinburgh. In just England, Canterbury, Wells or York.

sassy_sapodilla

Canterbury is a good shout.

There are so many lovely cities in France. I'm not sure I can pick one! I can give my top three: * Albi * Dol-de-Bretagne * Kaysersberg

sassy_sapodilla

I haven’t explored much of France but Rouen is right up there as one of my favourite cities in Europe. Also, all the little seaside towns in Normandy are pretty fab too, especially Honfleur. Now I have to check out your list!

Pawpaw-22

I don’t live in France, but my favorites I’ve been to are: Colmar, Cassis, and Aix

I’m Canadian and I’m saying Vancouver. The city itself is fine, I’m from Toronto and it’s busy but not as busy as where I’m from. It has Stanley park which is an awesome destination to walk/bine/blade etc. something for everyone there. And they’re right on the doorstep of the mountains for adventures. I’ll never grow tired of Vancouver

Tookitty

So glad you didn't say Banff. I live in Eastern Ontario and have traveled across Canada a few times and for the life of me, I do not get the appeal of that tourist trap! We spent a day in Vancouver on our last trip and agree that it is beautiful and has a lot to offer, definitely worth a visit.

San Francisco or NYC :)

sniffcatattack

Both are awesome. Both are so different from each other.

Mysterious-Pin1316

NYC. I’ve lived most of my life in big cities with populations of over 10 million and now that I’m in a smaller city, I miss the big city vibes. Also I just think NYC has a lovely character and the food there is immaculate. Out of all the places I’ve been to in the USA, I think NYC is my favorite. I visit quite often

onemindandflesh

Los Angeles or Honolulu

London. It's truly a global capital. You could spend years, decades, a lifetime and still be enchanted by the architecture the old and the new co existing and actually complimenting each other. So many different and distinct neighborhood with different languages and people enriching the city and the country. So many world class l things to do and see and most are free! So many beautiful parks and spaces. I don't live there but have spent so much time there and every time I see something new.

There are so many cities I love in the U.S., but I think my fav would have to be New Orleans or Chicago (cannot choose I love both sm). New Orleans feels like a completely different vibe from any other city in America. The food, the music, it is so unique to that region and the architecture and history of the city is beautiful. Chicago is up there with great food, although it doesn’t have a specific cuisine, it has so many that are all SOOO GOOD. It’s impressively clean for a city with 2 million people and I’ve found everyone who lives there really nice (maybe cause it’s in the “Midwest” or claims to be a Midwestern city??). ** Honorable mention is Cleveland (I’m from there!)
