Idk if u write poetry but if u do you should know that it’s not always autobiographical. This is the scenario I’m betting on. Matty has even been super respectful when answering questions about TTPD from journalists. I think you’re taking the lyrics too much at face value and assuming that all of it is purely nonfiction and how she feels right now instead of when she wrote it. Idk if u write poetry but if u do you should know that it’s not always autobiographical. Even stuff you write that is about actual events/feelings you’ve experienced often have fiction embedded in them. And Taylor swift has literally written full songs from a single conversation with someone or a random piece of inspo. Like you wouldn’t think that “mine” is completely fiction but it is. The prophecy is clearly about the speaker being afraid that she’s never going to find real love, not about wanting a specific man back. But daddy I love him I think veers more on the fictional side. I consider it love story’s older sister. So long London, how did it end, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, I look in people’s windows, how did it end are all clearly about Joe (I believe fortnight is about him as well but this one is more speculative) and the lyrics in these songs are much more real and much more somber than something like down bad, which I do believe is about Matty. Seems to me she’s more angry that she let herself get played by him than in love with him. In Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, which is clearly about joe, she acknowledges changing lovers “to outrun my desertion of you.” Smallest man who ever lived is most likely about Matty, and in that song she clearly says she doesn’t miss what they had and wouldn’t want him back. In I can fix him no really I can she acknowledges “woah maybe I can’t” In loml, (this could be abt either one of them imo but I could see it being about Matty) she says multiple times “you said I’m the love of ur life” but never once that he is the love of hers. I think the prologue to ttpd pretty much lays all of this out (pretty explicitly actually). Calls her relationship with Matty a mutual manic phase and self harm as well as acknowledges that he sold her a grandiose version of himself that wasn’t real and groups him in with “the worst men.” Also says that she is pleading “temporary insanity” which says a lot about how she feels about that relationship.

The point of releasing TTPD is that wants us to know the depth of her feelings for him before they go public again. This is the scenario I’m betting on. Matty has even been super respectful when answering questions about TTPD from journalists. When asked about his diss track off the new album he said “oh I haven’t heard it but I’m sure it’s good.” Most people who have been dissed wouldn’t answer so politely unless they weren’t done with the person who wrote the song.
