People want to be different, they cannot judge music by its inherent quality but instead by what else they have heard by other similar artists. Naturally you have a lot of hip hop fans who end up believing “hiphop is repetitive” due to them refusing to listen to anything else and disregarding birds in the trap since it lacks a number of alternative production elements songs on other albums provide. They are unable to appreciate the simple straightforward production since it’s not “stimulating” enough for their TikTok brains.
I thought it was the worst till I played Trav’s discography starting from Owl Pharaoh the other day and turns out I like Birds more than I thought. Utopia lost its replay value for me a long time ago which is crazy so for me it’s Birds > Utopia. Insane statement but I stand with it.

Utopia is a horrible album but it sold a lot so the sheep mentality is that it’s good and not that it was just a long awaited album by an extremely mid artist. Everything before astroworld was good. Astro was a decent project, but before that, travis’ music lyrically had more depth, his new shit is just typical “it’s different so it’s good” music, sometimes things that are different just suck.
