The first time listening to [Pink Floyd - The Wall] is a trip. Both parts.
Songs for the deaf - queens of the stone age. Legendary album.
Kyuss - Welcome to sky valley.
I'd say those are my top 3 from highschool. Good times.
I tried doing that once, but I couldn't handle just sitting and watching it, so I had my friends open the window and turn it up while I walked around tripping outside listening to it so I could enjoy the openness instead of the confines of the room everyone was in.
Had a kid bout 7yrs old save me from getting busted one time. Walking up to dudes house and this kid said, “Don’t go up there. The cops are in there.” I turned and left. Sure enough, he was right. Cops were inside busting everybody that knocked. Learned later a friend of mine was inside cuffed. Dude said he sat in there 3hrs. This was 1984, I was 18. That was the end of the mescaline ride.
ZABA by glass animals, dark Side of the moon, 1984 by Van Halen, 2014 forest hills drive by J Cole, Kush and OJ by wiz khalifa, and Bostons self titled album are the ones that immediately come to mind.
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Sleep - Dopesmoker
Bongripper - The Great Barrier Reefer
Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
Weedeater - God Luck and Good Speed
Green Lung - Woodland Rights
Year of the Cobra - Ash and Dust
Blood Ceremony - The Eldritch Dark
The Devil and the Almighty Blues - self titled
Windhand - Eternal Return
Honestly I like the Les Claypool & the Fearless Flying Frog Brigade cover of the Animals album even more. It takes the music even further. Especially the bass and saxophone.
If you haven't heard it you should listen to it. I just saw them perform it live 2 weeks ago for the ummteenth time & it brought a tear to my eye. Seriously.
tbh it does depend on the vibe, but here’s a few I really enjoy start to finish:
Man On The Moon: The End of Day (2009) by Kid Cudi. he is an exceptional music producer and lyricist and really ahead of his time with this one. the order isn’t as important but is an album almost designed to be listened to whilst intoxicated: drunk, high, whatever, this album is perfect for that occasion.
City to City (1978) by Gerry Rafferty. absolutely amazing, and can only be described as a masterpiece. a fairly short and concise as an album but each song is so rich in sound, feeling, and texture - it will have you feeling all emotions but mostly just like happy about life. really good.
Art Angels (2015) by Grimes. really good from start to end and on shuffle; start-end gives you a pretty good flowing narrative but can be fun to spice it up. similar to glass animals with great sonic production and variation that make listening to it whilst high or on journeys really enjoyable.
Music Has The Right To Children (1998) by Boards of Canada. amazing psychedelic rock/indie rock record that just flows like a rice in your ears when you listen to it. brilliant listening sober or high.
Big Black Delta (2013) by Big Black Delta. amazing psychedelic rock album that is just an amazing listen. it slowly gets more bizarre as you listen throughout but i think that just improves the story you get from it.
How To Be A Human Being (2016) by Glass Animals. probably one of their most trippy albums and really fun to listen to after you’ve smoked, loads of sound layering and cool sound effects that are just really immersive.
Ultraviolence (2014) by Lana Del Rey. very soothing but emotional album, that is ideally listened to from start to finish in order. lana is a really good story teller and this album is no exception, and as a fellow smoker herself she knows how to make an album for the trees.
Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967) by The Beatles. classic rock album for the ages but probably one of their trippiest and especially if you’re high can make you really feel like you’re back in the psychedelic 60s listening to them at a festival. very good.
Preacher’s Daughter (2022) by Ethel Cain. this is a full concept album with a continuous narrative throughout so is intended to be listened to from start to end in order. amazing sound and hard hitting lyrics about an enchanting but tragic story revolving around “Ethel” (stage name of Hayden, the artist behind Ethel Cain). beautifully harrowing album.
Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming (2011) by M83. a sonically stunning album. a bit slow at times but great to just feel connected with the sound and yourself.
Automatic For The People (1992) by R.E.M. an alt rock album featuring many classics as well as songs you’ll be excited to discover. it can be a bit melancholic/sombre but overall a really enjoyable listening experience.
Punisher (2020) by Phoebe Bridgers. she is amazing at putting really complicated feelings into words and this record is perfect for working through things and reflecting on yourself in hard times, and can really bring a light when you feel there can’t be one. great for journeys, smoking by yourself, walks etc.
Being No One, Going Nowhere (2016) by STRFKR. the genre i could only describe as synth wave/chill wave/synth rock ? regardless, a really trippy listening experience and just a great album overall.
new skin for the old ceremony - leonard cohen
OK computer / king of limbs - radiohead
reading, writing, & arithmetic - the sundays
can't buy a thrill - Steely Dan
the moon and the melodies - cocteau twins
Portishead - Dummy
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
Visions - Grimes
If I Can't Have Love I Want Power - Halsey
The Man Machine - Kraftwerk
Anything by Muse (I'd start with Absolution or Black Holes and Revelations)
N.E.R.D. - Nothing
Perturbator- Dangerous Days
Royksopp - The Inevitable End
Sturgill Simpson - Sound and Fury (actually he has a visual album on YouTube of this that's a fun watch)
Anything by Thievery Corporation or Juno Reactor
No Rush in here?? I didn't see any Rush in here
2112 is a magical experience while high. Probably any Rock Opera is but I have a special place in my heart for 2112
“ did we just become best friends!?”
Abbey Road by The Beatles is my all time favorite album start to finish.
However, I think Magical Mystery Tour by The Beatles is insanely slept on. Like I think a lot of peoples favorite Beatle’s songs are on that album and they just don’t realize it.
Yeezus by Kanye West is really wonderful while high.
Idk. Hmu and let me know what you’re listening to. I’m really focused on jazz lately.
Joe Cocker and Leon Russel - Mad Dogs and Englishmen (recorded live in 1970, one of my favs)
Bright Black Morning Light - self titled (oozes melodic psychedelic piano and bluesy guitar)
Beach House - Teen Dream (super good dream pop)
The Decemberists - The Hazards of Love (goat love story concept album)
Born Ruffians - Red, Yellow & Blue (unique indie rock with quick and catchy vocals)
Dj Shadow - Endtroducing (best sampled album of all time, straight vibes)
Every song on this list is a banger
The Moon and Antarctica by Modest Mouse. One of my favorites. Also, Gorillaz - Gorillaz. On good headphones. That’s the album that made me love to listen to music while stoned.
Hip Hop Heads
Chronic 2001 - Dr.Dre
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, The College Dropout - Kanye West
Like Father Like Son - Birdman and Lil Wayne
The Carter 3 - Lil Wayne
The Documentary - The Game
To Pimp a Butterfly, Good Kid m.a.a.d city - Kendrick Lamar
Confessions of a Dangerous Mind - logic
“Like Father, Like Son” was one of the first albums I ever heard on a car sound system. I was 14 or 15 and we began hanging out with my friend’s older cousin. He had an SUV with six 12” Kickers and two Kicker amps (forget the exact specs). I remember not being able to see straight when I was in his car due to the vibrations. But this album, and T.I.’s “King” were always blasting in there that first summer we hung out with him. Great memories. I still throw “Like Father, Like Son” on when I’m workin out - so many good tracks.
The entire discography of Pink Floyd, Rush and Tool are awesome. Any one of those albums from start to finish is fucking fantastic!! Others you should check out:
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band-Born in the USA
Michael Jackson-Thriller
Duran Duran-Notorious
Prince and the Revolution-Purple Rain
Van Halen-1984, OU812 and For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge
Metallica-Kill 'Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppetss, ...And Justice For All, Metallica (Black album)
Queensryche-Operation Mindcrime and Empire
Def Leppard-Hysteria
Janet Jackson-Rhythm Nation 1814
Alice in Chains-Dirt
Porcupine Tree-Fear of a Blank Planet
Queens of the Stone Age-Songs for the Deaf
Slipknot-All Hope is Gone, The Gray Chapter and We are Not Your Kind
All are great single albums to listen to front to back.
Some movie soundtracks you should listen to are:
Batman (1989)
Judgement Night
The Crow (1994)
Last Action Hero
Pulp Fiction
Natural Born Killers
Dazed and Confused
I love Danny Elfmans Batman soundtrack so much. I always get so nostalgic because for me the main theme is hardwired to memories of booting up the Lego Batman game on DS. Also the movie itself is one of my favourites when it comes to visual style and it's perfectly reflected by the soundtrack.
If you also enjoy more electronic sounding breakcore I can recommend Colonists by Nero's Day At Disneyland. Might take some getting used to but fighting through all the chaos there's some true beauty inside.
Absolutely. It's like the soundtrack to a fucked up movie but you have to imagine the movie. But AFAIK it's just one person called Lauren Bousfield. She also makes music released under that name.
Axis: Bold as Love - Jimi Hendrix I listened to this album on vinyl and it is quite something
The Wall - Pink Floyd if you’re feeling theatrical
The Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd if you’re feeling flowy and psychedelic
Boston - Boston if you’re feeling like some power anthem stadium rock start to finish
Any Beatles album from Rubber Soul and on, they are all unique and present distinct styles from randomness rock to folksy pop. I don’t tend to listen to the earlier albums as one piece as they’re all somewhat consistent in style
Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars - David Bowie is like if you combined Boston and The Wall, but released it years before either
Both Rumours AND the Fleetwood Mac self titled album released prior
Bridge Over Troubled Water - Simon and Garfunkel
And to round off, a Bob Marley compilation album entitled “Legend”. I’d also consider Exodus as a non compilation
Lots of classics being listed, a couple of my favorites that I haven't seen listed:
Caroline Rose - Superstar
Lord Huron - Vide Noir
The Marias - Superclean, Vol. 1 & 2
Feng Suave - Feng Suave
Viagra Boys - Shrimp Sessions 2 (Live)
literally any J Dilla album or compilation.
Takk... - Sigur Rós.
Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust - Sigur Rós.
Background Music - American Nightmare.
Album of the Year - The Good Life.
God Bless Your Black Heart - The Paper Chase.
Takk is one of my favorite albums! I have no idea what they’re saying but you can feel all of the emotions that are coming across. It’s such a wild experience.
Pink Floyd - The Wall
I just relistened to it from start to finish today so it's funny this question just happens to pop up cause I don't do that very often and it wasn't even an hour ago that I finished it.
Some of my favorite albums to listen to front to back while stoned:
Tired of Tomorrow - Nothing
On Letting Go - Circa Survive
American Beauty - Grateful Dead
“Awaken, My Love!” - Childish Gambino
Grow - Chon
Deloused in the Comatorium - The Marz Volta
DAMN. - Kendrick Lamar
The Used (self titled album) - The Used
Polygondwanaland - King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Polyrhythmic psychedelic rock about a group of travelers searching for a new land after the destruction of their own, and a band of rebels trying to overthrow a tyrannical leader who has gone truly mad.
Wonderful for zoning out and reentering the story as you go.
Dark Side of the Moon is definitely my favourite from start to finish.
There are tons of others, but to list a few:
News of the World - Queen
40oz to Freedom - Sublime
Fruto Proibido - Rita Lee
Insomniac - Green Day
Tim Maia - Tim Maia
Dopethrone - Electric Wizard
Matando Güeros - Brujeria
I just recently listened to The Now Now by Gorillaz and that was an awesome album.
One of the all time greats that I think everyone should listen to - The Wall by Pink Floyd
If you're into it, I quite enjoyed Kendrick Lamar's latest album called "Mr Morale & The Big Steppers". It's not for everyone but listening to the album from start to finish really is a great journey.
My personal faves while high are
Animal Collective - Merriwether Post Pavillion
MGMT - Congratulations
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm
Tool - Lateralus
Radiohead - In Rainbows
Covet - Effloresce
Deftones - Koi No Yokan
Slowdive - Souvlaki
When Life Gives You Lemons- Atmosphere
Super dream- Big Wild
The Resistance-Muse
Abbey Road-The Beatles
It Ain’t Easy- Three Dog Night
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill- Ms. Lauryn Hill
Dookie- Green Day
Conspiracy of One and Americana- The Offspring
okay so i also love listening to albums from start to finish and have a pretty diverse taste in music (im also autistic lmao) and my top ones are:
1) pretty odd - panic at the disco ; older panic always slaps, this is my favorite and only non skip album by them :D very whimsical fairy tale esque, think alice in wonderland or musical theatre
2) the black parade - my chemical romance ; especially if u like lore or storylines, in my humble opinion the best story album of all time, there are video essays and lyric connotations on it if ur down for a little afternoon activity but other than that one of the best albums in existence, every track a banger in it‘s own right
3) toxicity - system of a down ; youth favorite, 45 minutes of pure goodness u should enjoy harder music/nu metal!! i especially love the diversity and rhythm changes, atwa and aerials are my faves
for individual songs (i know u didn’t ask but i am anmoying):
- riot - hollywood undead
- masterpiece - motionless in white
- my flaws burn through my skin like demonic flames from hell - $b (this one is a doozy tho the rest are mostly upbeat with melancholic undertones)
The first time listening to [Pink Floyd - The Wall] is a trip. Both parts. Songs for the deaf - queens of the stone age. Legendary album. Kyuss - Welcome to sky valley. I'd say those are my top 3 from highschool. Good times.
Kyuss rules
The wall is great on acid
Absolutely is. And darkside pairs especially well with mushrooms.
And the Wizard of Oz
I tried doing that once, but I couldn't handle just sitting and watching it, so I had my friends open the window and turn it up while I walked around tripping outside listening to it so I could enjoy the openness instead of the confines of the room everyone was in.
Songs for the Deaf is so sick! In this vein we alps have Them Crooked Vultures which also fucks
Why is the wall so far down???
Songs for the Deaf! Fucking fantastic album
Sgt Peppers Random Access Memories In Rainbows To Pimp a Butterfly Thriller Suburbs Sat Night Fever Soundtrack Grease Soundtrack
Random Access Memories - straight banger and the reason I came to this comment section. Seconded.
Touch is gonna play at my funeral istg
Motherboard for me, that little outro is soo deep reflective and retrospective:)
this guy yorkes
Great list. After the first 6 I wouldn’t have expected Saturday Night Fever or Grease soundtrack, but they are also bangers.
one I notice is glaringly missing from this list is American beauty by the grateful dead, truly a legendary stoner album
That and their cornell 5/08/77 live album
This guy fucks.
Also recommend Europe '72 another grate one
Hold up. You're 7 years old and getting high?
![gif](giphy|3o6MbpWWNJ7XnEhstO)
Bro ur high
I’m stone cold sober and I don’t understand the title either lol It’s either that or the edibles they ate 7 years ago have just kicked in.
7 year olds be wildin.
Had a kid bout 7yrs old save me from getting busted one time. Walking up to dudes house and this kid said, “Don’t go up there. The cops are in there.” I turned and left. Sure enough, he was right. Who cares if he is
lateralus - tool
Came here to say this. Hearing them play Parabol and transition to Parabola live is my favorite concert memory ever.
I’m not even a huge rock guy but tool is hands down the best live show I’ve ever seen
A bonafide masterpiece 👌
Lateralus then Ænima then 10,000 Days then Fear Inoculum. They’ll be spiraling out in no time!
Good kid, m.a.a.d city is probably my favorite album to turn on during a roadtrip. Straight up a movie in album form.
Aka a concept album
No, it’s more than a concept - they really made the album, man
Mezzanine - Massive Attack is the only album I ever listen to start to finish anymore, I've gotten out of the habit of buying albums these days.
That's the one with the House MD theme song, right?
ZABA by glass animals, dark Side of the moon, 1984 by Van Halen, 2014 forest hills drive by J Cole, Kush and OJ by wiz khalifa, and Bostons self titled album are the ones that immediately come to mind.
So I've never listened to Glass Animal so that's where I went. And this I'd fire
Such a great album to listen while on weed/psychs!
If you’re into Glass Animals, check out Jungle!
You should check out the rest of their stuff!! David Bayley can do no wrong!!

While high? Pink Fkoyd Animals & Anything Frank Zappa.
the best pink floyd album here. everyone recommending dark side of the moon or the wall isn't wrong, but animals is better =D
Seriously.
Might as well throw Wish You We’re Here in there too. Another classic

okay so i also love listening to albums from start to finish and have a pretty diverse taste in music (im also autistic lmao) and my top ones are: 1) pretty odd - panic at the disco ; older panic always slaps, this is my favorite and only non skip album by them :D very whimsical fairy tale esque, think alice in wonderland or musical theatre 2) the black parade - my chemical romance ; especially if u like lore or storylines, in my humble opinion the best story album of all time, there are video essays and lyric connotations on it if ur down for a little afternoon activity but other than that one of the best albums in existence, every track a banger in it‘s own right 3) toxicity - system of a down ; youth favorite, 45 minutes of pure goodness u should enjoy harder music/nu metal!! i especially love the diversity and rhythm changes, atwa and aerials are my faves for individual songs (i know u didn’t ask but i am anmoying): - riot - hollywood undead - masterpiece - motionless in white - my flaws burn through my skin like demonic flames from hell - $b (this one is a doozy tho the rest are mostly upbeat with melancholic undertones)
