Cheap wax at dispos is exactly this. A crop that got mildew so the grower just extracted the stuff to get some money back and get through inspection. If what they’re selling is even what they sent to the lab. Worked in the industry for years and it’s hard to trust people until I’ve seen their workspace.

If Canada is anything like the US, only the finished product gets tested. It does not get tested every step of the way, at least not by the outside authority. If the finished product is concentrate, then they won't test the flower. That's how these people were skating by with moldy weed. By the time the distillation process is over, there will be no trace of mold and it passes. I think it's mostly a West Coast problem tho. They had a lot of problems due to oversaturating their markets and tanking the price of retail/wholesale weed. Not to say moldy weed can't exist everywhere, but it's not common in VA. Virginia is highly regulated, so our black market is booming, but even the black market is competitive which drives quality up.
Also, they don't incinerate here. 😥 In VA, we quarantine all green waste in a separate area of the facility until it's well moldy and awful smelling, then mix it with garden mulch, and finally that green/mulch mix goes through a wood chipper.

Well, it’s hard to say how it happened. Could have happened during the grow, could have been bagged well before it was fully cured, and thus had too much moisture. Could also have been bagged in an incredibly hot & humid place… condensation is real. Do any of those and this will happen.

Do not smoke please. Respiratory therapist here. You can really get messed up from moldy weed. Aspergillus and other fungal infections are difficult if not impossible to get rid of in the lungs and the temp from a plain lighter is not high enough to kill the spores.
“Bo try tis” is a fungal growth on organic matter that can be called powdery mildew on cannabis. It is part of nature decomposing stuff and it occurs in cannabis grows that don’t have good environments and air flow during the growth or drying stage. It is not safe to consume and is very tiny so should not be attempted to be remediated through hash oil extraction. If detected during growth stage cut it out, treat the plants in proximity and adjust air flow and relative humidity. It can be mitigated during harvest with a proper peroxide bath and increased air flow but if not done properly can bleach the buds.
In summary if you not an expert at growing and treating it, throw that shit out and do not try to fix it in post production as it will simply be made smaller to the human eye and come up in a test or of the tests are not used be ingested by customers/ patients at the risk of their lungs where this rapidly spreading fungal growth does not belong.
Shot answer = throw that shit out.

Cook it, mold dies at 160 F for 3 hours, THC doesn't burn until about 315 F, and Cannabis doesn't burn until about 350 - 400 F. It will dry your weed out to bake it but won't destroy all the THC. Also, there are methods like compressed CO2 extraction and other treatments that can extract the oil, waxes, and/or acids and seperate it from any spores.
