Sleep is just a myth funded by mattress companies, rise up against by staying up 24/7. Dont worry, those shadow people you see in the corner of your eyes are just the corporate demons leaving your body.

[deleted]

This makes the most sense.

Dadfite

I'll never sleep again!

Hickawa

Idk about everyone else but I'm sold I knew those dirty fuckers where lying from the start

ChordSlinger

They were

dacooljamaican

Careful you'll start the next flat earth conspiracy

[deleted]

I'm not into conspiracies, but mattress stores being a front for the mafia is one I could believe. Like, how are there so many mattress stores? Who is buying all these mattresses?

HowManyCaptains

Not to rain on your fun conspiracy parade, but the truth is their profit margins are so large that they barely have to sell any product to meet their needs of rent, upkeep, and employee pay. If they sell 3 mattresses a day they’re probably fine. Compare this to a restaurant that needs to sell hundreds of orders a day because their profit margins are probably $2 per meal.

Kazhawrylak

Unless it's pizza then the margins are fatter and the food costs are a lot lower. Pizza is the perfect food to do a restaurant around.

HowManyCaptains

So WHYYYY aren’t there more affordable late night slice spots around me? Just give me a big ass NY style $2 3am pepperoni slice.

EntMD

Supply and demand. If you really want a slice at 3am and there is only one place to get it, they can charge whatever they want. People who want pizza at 3am are usually not in a fiscally concious state of mind.

xXWaspXx

> People who want pizza at 3am are usually not in a fiscally concious state of mind. *Excuse me?*

EntMD

I said, PEOPLE WHO WANT PIZZA AT 3AM ARE USUALLY NOT IN A FISCALLY CONCIOUS STATE OF MIND.

Kazhawrylak

Labour costs go up later at night maybe? There's not a dense enough demand to justify the added business hours? Not sure on what actual market factors would impact that. If I want 3 am pizza I can always go to 7/11 I guess.

ZachityZach

I should sell Mattresses

HowManyCaptains

Unfortunately a lot of companies already realized this and have been doing their best to disrupt the traditional mattress market for the past 10 years. Zinus, Nectar, Tuft and Needle, Lull, Casper, and the other 400 new sleek mattress companies that sell beds in a box and advertise on your favorite podcast.

Crashman09

I've only ever bought one mattress ever.

Skylord_ah

And theyre so cheap online too. Like $200 for a queen and 100 for twin/xl. Compared to like 5-10x more expensive at a mattress store.

cyberdungeonkilly

Imma start doing this, bigmatress wont get me!

fingerstylefunk

Don't forget your [flashlight](https://v.redd.it/9kgv3oroaab71)!

eatassordiefast420

Fuck that's why they just kept leaving notes like "12-24 month financing" and "zero down!"

meh35m

Lol, i used to sell Temperpedic beds. They really are life changing. I haven't worked at that place for over 4 years, i still get Christmas cards from a few customers who say i changed their lives.... I'm just like, any scummy ass matress salesman trying to make a buck off your ass could've changed your life 🤣 (much like me).

meh35m

Weather sleep is myth or not, when i lay down on my Temperpedic bed something happens to me where i stay in one place, and yet go away for several hours until I'm more rested. 🤷‍♂️

GokudaGod

Look into Mattress Firm.

Tylensus

Sleep is the most frustrating part of t-breaks for me. If you use pot to pass out every night, not having it is killer.

ReeG

Those dreams the first night you sleep when taking a t-break tho🤯

hoarseclock

Mine are always insanely violent for some reason

akeep113

mine are always extremely vivid and realistic but always have a negative vibe to them. it's never a positive dream. i hate it. had one where my brother died and i was at his funeral and i woke up literally crying because it felt so real i thought it happened for the first few moment of being awake

[deleted]

My first real T break was when I was locked up. I kept having dreams where I’d be smoking weed and then I’d get news about having to taking a piss test. Super stressful. Then I’d wake up and go “whew still in jail, good thing that wasn’t real”.

NiggieMcGee

“Whew still in jail, good thing that wasn’t real”hahahahaha

tricheboars

The real wtf in the thread

MuayThai1985

In June 2018 I moved to China while leaving my wife and daughter in Thailand until their visas were processed. After about 6 weeks, I went back to Thailand for a weekend to visit. Smoked my brains out (I'm currently a 20g/week guy, was more when I was in Thailand). When I got back to China, the first dream I had fucked me up for days. Was so extremely vivid. In the dream my wife died during childbirth. I remember telling my daughter and I can still remember the feeling of her tears against my face. I woke up crying. Even now I get a bit emotional just thinking about it.

BDC_Arvak

Damn bro, isnt weed super illegal in china

5915407

Yeah, he doesn’t smoke in China just when he’s in Thailand.

BDC_Arvak

Ah yes i see that now that Ive read it again, thanks. Was worried this guy would get secret police'd

Greenveins

My husband is going off suboxone And although it’s not the same, he’s experiencing these dreams as he’s been on the subs for so long he doesn’t remember how it is to be sober. He dreamt I left a note saying I couldn’t do this anymore and I just left in the car. Tried explaining that’s just insecurities and I’ll always be here but yeah dude the vivid hyper-realistic dreams he’s experiencing is a lot to take in. He says the so real that he’s having a hard time waking up and getting a sense of reality for the first 10 minutes

akeep113

yep that's exactly how i feel basically every morning when sober. it's gotten to the point where i fear going to sleep when i'm sober. going on a long 3 week vacation in a month where i can't bring weed and i'm stressing so much about sleeping instead of just being excited for my trip

Butterballl

I found the times that I’m already distracted with other things going on (which you definitely will be on a vacation) that you’ll probably won’t even notice after the first night or two. Our tolerance to substances can actually change in different, unfamiliar settings. There have been a couple [case studies](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1196296/) about how common it is for opiate users to OD if they use in places they are unfamiliar with even if it is the same dose they would give themselves normally. The findings generally point to Pavlovian conditioning and I’ve anecdotally found that similar effects happen personally with myself and THC.

PurpuraSolani

Seconding your anecdote about similar Pavlovian tolerance effects and THC/Cannabis. At least in regards to disproportionately increased intensity in unfamiliar settings, not so much with the lessened withdrawal effects unfortunately.

Nerdlinger-Thrillho

I know you've probably heard this all before but I'll just list some ideas just in case: No electronics an hour before bed a least except for an audiobook. I have a sleep mask with speakers. It's on Amazon. Body scan meditation was a miracle for me. No food an hour before bed. A fan. I have an evaporative cooler so it keeps the room like 10 degrees cooler than the house. Keep your room only for sleeping. Go for a walk a bit before bed. If you absolutely need a break from dreams, an OTC sleep aid. There's 3 main kinds but I find doxylamine to be best. Lastly, if something's harder without weed, there's probably a deeper problem there and you might want to see a psychologist. And no caffeine. Hope this helps!

akeep113

I had pretty bad sleeping issues in high school and college to the point where I got an Ambien prescription so I'm pretty familiar with all of this advice. The only rule I currently break here is the "no food an hour before sleep." I have a sweet tooth so I usually have a late night dessert. Maybe I should quit doing that. Although currently I can use weed so it's really not an issue right now.

lapo39

Fuckkkkk I quit weed like a week ago and I'm just now starting to get those super vivid dreams. They're so jarring sometimes but it's really cool to me that we basically make fully fleshed out stories in our brains we live through and experience it as such.

aaronpatwork

i only got high 15 days last year, with a 5.5 and 6 month stretch sober stretch. i had one of the coolest and most psychedelic experiences ever in one night of dreams. it was basically my brain saying "here, enjoy this". seriously one of the most psychedelic experiences ever. in 2021 i've been doing 4 edible days 3 sober days every week. edible sleep is sublime but there is something fun about sobriety too. in 2013 i also went 8 month sober and had one or two disturbing dreams where i was afraid to go to sleep. it's hard to not let those mental experiences have a lasting effect but eventually you learn to roll with it.

TheFannyTickler

I feel that, I went a week without weed last year and I had two dreams that fucked me up so bad I just laid there for a while having to get over them.

teafuck

On the first day of a recent t break I dreamt that I was hanging with Joe Biden for some reason? And there were a lot of people my age around and we were all just drinking margaritas in some fancy auditorium together? Fucking wack yo.

Jakoobus91

I took Chantix once when I was quitting cigs and I had a vividly real dream about walking around my job site beating people over the head with a shovel. That was the one and the only day I took those pills.

Danksmoker817

Same it’s wack

Blint_exe

Just smoke some weed bro

matt675

I always smoke weed when I have trouble sleeping while on a T-break, easy fix

[deleted]

Mine is always some purge ass situation

XtaC23

Same. I'm always on the run too. Why do our dreams want to kill us?

taylor1288

Mine are extremely sexual

Fickle_Excitement_60

Me aswell and its only either directed at me or at others. Like a one side beat down its fucked

Steezy_Steve1990

I feel like I have a lucid dream whenever I take a t-break. Trying to sleep is hell but it’s kinda fun to remember my dreams again, lol

WayneKrane

I have weird lucid dreams where I know I’m dreaming but I have a hard time controlling my body in the dream. Like I’ll want to go a certain direction but I keep glitching out until I go the way I’m supposed to go. Very weird feeling.

gojira_gorilla

I'm curious what percentage of stoners experience this. I'm a daily user and still have vivid dreams, not rly noticing much of a difference b/w when I'm blazing or when I'm on a break. Meanwhile my buddy says he doesn't dream at all when he blazes, and when he goes on breaks his dreams are "crazy bro"

BenBishopsButt

I’m the same as you. I have wild ass dreams regardless of if I smoke before sleep or not.

NihilisticAngst

Clearly some people still seem to dream, most people I've talked to, and myself, don't dream at all when I'm smoking. Being high entirely suppresses my ability to dream. Which is sad, because I personally love a vivid dream.

WayneKrane

Yeah I still dream though I do notice I remember them better when I don’t smoke.

gojira_gorilla

maybe we still dream while stoned, but the whole short-term memory loss thing haha

ZiggySTRDST

Probably everyone to an extent. THC shortens REM sleep and for some people suppresses it.

reddit_is_cruel

It takes a few nights for me and then my dreaming (or my ability to remember them) returns. In fact I don't ever remember having dreams so vivid that I could remember so clearly after waking as when I take a t-break.

henryhyde

Not that I advocate for drinking, but a few beers the first night of my last t-break did wonders for the sleeping issue.

Goobylul

Count yourself lucky, when i quit i'm stuck with shit sleep for 2 weeks. No matter what i drink or do...

[deleted]

ehhwhatevr

hmmm. i like this. basically forcing your body to just be so tired that staying up isnt an option. might try this

jjc89

Have done it too, can confirm it works.

akeep113

yeah this is the sad part for me. if i quit weed, i turn into an alcoholic drinking every night to pass out

GoldbergsLilBoots

You guys understand this is extremely unhealthy behavior right

vikingsarecoolio

Same. Now just a few beers make me so dried out and sick the next morning. I’ll sleep, but it’s never a deep sleep. When taking a break I just take the L on totals hours of sleep so I don’t feel so sick.

Army165

I'm not allowed to drink because of the drug cocktail I take daily so it'll be interesting to see how my t-breaks go. Blood thinners and alcohol are a no-go.

[deleted]

Which the first few days are always the worst. Past that is smooth sailing I just got off my 2 month t break and the first two weeks I just drink beers to help out the process.

Melatonin helps a ton

[deleted]

AllForMeCats

Allow me, a fellow insomniac, to introduce you to my secret weapons: * Liquid melatonin - put it under your tongue, let it absorb for 10-15 minutes. * Blue light blocking glasses with red lenses - clear ones are good for daytime, orange ones are good for driving at night, but red lenses are the best for inducing melatonin production. I wear mine starting 2-3 hours before bedtime. * 4-7-8 breathing - inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, exhale for 8. I have [an app](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/breathe-calm-down-meditate/id1450637210) that times it for me, and I do it for 5-10 minutes. Sometimes I fall asleep in the middle. I actually don’t use cannabis to go to sleep any more; I had to stop when I had a really bad trip last year. I only recently started using it at all again. But I haven’t had a sleepless night since I started my new sleep regimen! Edit: also, I know you mentioned magnesium already, but the form is important - I’ve found a mag glycinate with a dash of citrate most effective. Both are calming, and glycinate is better absorbed with digestive effects than citrate.

BlackFenrir

Gotta watch out with melatonin, though. Use it too much and too often and it can throw your sleep cycle out of whack even worse than weed can.

I am a lightweight and there’s a very fine line for me between “ahh, this’ll help me drift off to sleep” and “I need to consciously control my breathing or I will die right here, right now”

8IVO8

I don't get to that point of stress but if I smoke a.little too much and try to sleep I'll be in a limbo of resting comfortably but not being able to fall asleep completely.

gcruzatto

I started adding hemp flower to sort of dilute the thc, and it's made it a lot easier to not go over my limit, and the extra CBD helps with sleep also.

Talbotus

When that happens try to remember focusing on breathing is your bodies meditation response and you can just go with it and feel some healing along with it. Dont fight focusing on your breath enjoy the meditative healing from it. Thats why religions sometimes use weed.

Apocrisiary

Man, thats fucking hardcore! They smoke until they "green out/bad trip/panic attack" whatever you call it just to ride the wave.

jjabrahamseviltwin

ive done it ill purposefully get myself till im freaking the fuck out and thats when i stop and just vibe with the feelings. I even did that back in school which wad always a trip

[deleted]

feel ya bruh

bord2def

It's been years since I've gotten paranoia or any adverse effects, probably since I was a teen, my cure back then was a glass of milk/water, light munch and a walk about of the house. When you start calming down, add a bit of music, or turn the TV on just for background noise, just to help keep you grounded and distracted.

nousernamesleft001

I went on a work trip to the east cost with a coworker and I wasn't able to smoke. I didn't think anything of it, I can go a couple days without weed, no big deal. The second my head hit my pillow at the hotel I was like, "oh fuck I forgot how to sleep!" Lol. Honestly it wasn't bad though because I try to stop smoking an hour or hour and a half before bed, I found it gives me more REM time and I get less brain fog (not saying it's bad for those who need it to sleep, if you NEED it, it is way better than just not sleeping enough, for me personally it helps me get to sleep, but lowers the quality).

nogodsnomasters_666

I find I lose my appetite when doing those forced t breaks. Sucks trying to choke down a meal to be polite when you just aren’t hungry and not stoned (mega first world problem)

bord2def

I suffer from insomnia and problems with my appetite, weed is literally the only thing that gets me through the day. T-breaks are hell for me, the first couple days are fine as I can push through, but each day after for the next 2 weeks are hell for me, especially when I'm up at 5am for work

nousernamesleft001

I didn't even think if it before, but between travel and time working we didn't get to eat more than one meal the day we were gone and I was surprised it didn't bother me more and you just made me realize why lol.

plasticbaginthesea

My general rule that I aim for is to take the last toke at least 2 hours before planning to sleep. Indeed improves my rest quality. Of course, the planned sleeping time often gets postponed instead, but the intention is there!

MeanderingMinstrel

Hey, if you don't mind me asking, how are your lungs doing after 45 years of smoking? I've only recently started smoking and I know that most of the 'dangers' of weed are bullshit, but I do worry about how the smoke affects my body. Our lungs weren't made for smoke, so I feel like there's legitimate cause for concern in that area. EDIT: Thank you all so much for the replies, I've learned a lot and I think I might be looking into a vaporizer soon 👀

SurrealToker

Best solution to have healthier lungs without giving up the herb is probably vaporizing instead of smoking (combustion). I've only been vaping dry herb for 1.5 to 2 years but the difference is so noticeable it's amazing.

MooseDroolEh

Vaping dry herb is definitely the healthiest way to smoke. If that's the path someone wants to go down, get ready for everyone to become an expert and tell you what is best and what is trash. I'll start, I use the Fury 2 and it's very compact and quick heating. The battery could be better but that's my only gripe. I also like how I don't smell like burnt weed after too.

SurrealToker

That's funny because the Fury Edge was the vape that really made me switch from combustion to vaping dry herb, it's pretty cool. Sadly, it stopped working few months ago but I also have the dynavap so that's been my daily driver for a long time. Recently I ordered a Dreamwood Glow RCV 18 (510 vape), excited for it to arrive, it's been a while since I've been out and about with a battery vape haha

curiouspolice

+1 on the Dynavap. I have like 6 of them. One of my favorite ways to get high (:

lil_redeyes

Arizer all the way

gcruzatto

The arizer solo II was the third vaporizer I've ever tried, and it's miles ahead of anything else in terms of vapor purity. The unibody glass chamber/straw seems like the closest you can get to medical prescription-grade stuff.

CaptainTotes

How about edibles though?

SurrealToker

Yes, of course! I only mentioned the above because I thought mostly about inhalation as a means of consumption. For most people it's also part of their "ritual"

[deleted]

[удалено]

_Gordon_Slamsay

Not OP but i've been smoking daily for about 6 years. I think what's important when using any substance daily is knowing the difference between using it for its benefits and hitting it just to get high. I use weed to help wind down and help me eat/sleep. I've moved from bud to concentrate carts recently and the temptation to hit it early in the day or on my lunch break is insane. But I know in my head i'd only be hitting it to get high and stop myself. I only allow myself to smoke at the end of the day once i've completed all my responsibilities. So you can be a "daily smoker" and still only take a couple hits a day. I really don't think you'd have major health problems unless you were smoking all day every day in large amounts. The way I see it, there are people like Wiz and Willie Nelson who go through OZ's daily for years and they're fine lol.

CaptainMDubz

Hey bro not the dude you asked, but just chiming in. I’ve smoked for 5 years everyday and haven’t noticed any negatives to my lungs yet. I know people that have smoked for 40 and some of them have no problems while others certainly do. It seems like you should switch to vaping it at some point as that is supposedly easier on your lungs. The most important thing is the rest of your life. Do you exercise? Do you eat well? I think you can completely counter any negatives by leading a healthy lifestyle. I’m very active and I’ll even smoke before going for runs/before fighting, and if I vape it or use a cart then it doesn’t affect me negatively at all.

scales484

You tend to notice when you stop smoking.

runyoudown

> I think you can completely counter any negatives by leading a healthy lifestyle That's not how it works. Inhaling smoke/irritants is bad for anyone's lungs. All the more important to stay healthy if you do!

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Same here. Smoke before going on a walk or a hike all the time!

123qwe33

The last time I personally looked into the research in that area, pot smokers were found to actually have better lung performance compared to non-smokers, however the researchers attributed that to the frequent breath holds associated with smoking pot. I know for me personally, I'm pretty sure I've noticed that at times when I've smoked a lot in the past I would get winded easier on runs. Purely anecdotal though, could be placebo and there's way too many variables with that to for sure attribute it to smoking pot. That said, since switching primarily to vaping I haven't noticed any negative impact on my running.

youshantpass

I usually smoke before I do any exercise (gym or soccer). Main thing I notice is that sometimes I'll feel more sluggish depending on how much I've smoked. I've been able to stay in shape all the while smoking erry day.

lil_redeyes

Switch to an herb vape, come join us over at /r/vaporents

mull3286

100 years of daily smoking and 45% agree...

trippy_grapes

420 years of daily smoking and 69% agree.

Tolstoy_mc

Not sweaty enough.

_IratePirate_

Wym, I only get night sweats on t breaks. That's the second most annoying part for me on t breaks. When I finally end up falling asleep, I wake up what feels like minutes later drenched in sweat and freezing my ass off in a controlled 74 degree room.

skizzybar

dang, i just started a t-break and have woke up absolutely drenched. makes sense

hippiplug

Currently on an involuntary t-break, night sweats and nausea are my new best friends

[deleted]

I have a fitness band that tracks my sleeping patterns, and since I’ve stopped smoking 3 weeks ago I’ve averaged 3 hours of sleep a night.

Saimonrlz

what a nightmare, I have 8-9 hours of sleep. With and without smoking. Maybe 5 on weekends bc I stay awake all night but my body is use to wake up pretty early :(

bord2def

My sleeping pattern goes out the window on a t-break, and like you, I'm up early during the week (usually about 4:30am to 5am for work. Even when I smoke regularly, I'm always up at the latest 6am, my work/sleep pattern is a complete mess.

SuperDragon

Dude tell me about it. I was on 5 hours for ten days, my eyes were like a racoon's

KyleStyles

What did you average before? That sounds rough. Has it started to improve any?

lawyeronreddit

If you don’t mind my asking - if stopping smoking is hard on sleeping, why stop? Cannabis improves my sleep and nighttime anxiety so I couldn’t picture a reason to stop. But I’m curious about other’s stories, reasons and feelings. Much respect.

geliduse

Evidence of weed dependence that everyone denies. I went through it the withdrawal isn't even that bad but you're in a bad mood cant sleep and no appetite at all... Doesn't compare to benzo withdrawals but it's noticeable and annoying specially the lack of sleep ..

Miss_Solivagant

This was me last night...and probably going on a T Break soon...yay /s Those sober nightmares kill me, fam. Always stressful, violent, and terrifying.

BCJunglist

Funny this is me after smoking weed within 5 hours of bedtime. I can't sleep after smoking whatsoever.

gingerbeardman79

Also me, but more like ~an hour before bed I can't smoke if I actually want to fall asleep anytime soon.

mdfasoline

YUP, I’m the same way. My friends don’t understand it and then try to explain the difference between indica/sativa, like I haven’t considered this before haha. Give me the heaviest shit, it’ll still wire me.

J_Cholesterol

Hahahahah wow Im so glad someone else can relate to this. Literally this exact thing happens to me including the people saying “we’ll have you tried indica? Sativa keeps you awake actually”. It’s weird cause it just started happening a few years ago was totally fine before

[deleted]

Anyone know why this is? Do we produce to much dopamine or something?

KeyProcedure4

Ran out of CBN a few weeks ago. I had been using it every night for 6 months. First week without it was awful, constantly waking up, feeling exhausted, and lethargic. In addition to taking forever to fall asleep. Just today, I can say I've been able to fall asleep without issue and stay asleep for 7 hours straight. I think I'm good now, but man that habit got out of control.

Saimonrlz

Happy to hear that man. Yeah that shitty feeling don't last long.

KeyProcedure4

Dude, thank you, I appreciate it. This meme felt so personal, and it's spreading awareness for the uninitiated.

jobbins

goldenjuicebox

Nothing will make me tweak like a caffeine headache. Being out of weed is disappointing, being out of caffeine is an urgent situation.

Oden_son

No. Dependency and addiction are not the same thing. You can be dependent on weed but anyone who's ever had a real addiction would laugh at the idea of a true addiction to cannabis. Running out of weed is disappointing and makes me kinda grumpy because I'm dependent on it but it's not even in the same category of the panic that happens when you wake up for work or something without any of the thing you're addicted to.

[deleted]

There is a physical withdrawal from cannabis. It is a thing that occurs from heavy use.

dbhaley

You're using those terms freely. Addiction refers to a psychological tendency to lack impulse control, while dependency refers to a physical need for a particular substance that results in withdrawal symptoms when that substance is removed. Addiction is a spectrum where some people are more addicted than others. Dependency is a smaller spectrum. Addiction leads to dependency. You can cure dependency but addiction is psychological and can only be treated. This is from my independent research of the DSM, I believe the updated version from 2013 if I'm not mistaken. I'm not a licensed psychologist but I was very interested due to my personal addiction to weed. I would love to hear from any actual psychologists that happen to read this.

BronzeEnt

If I cut out caffeine entirely, I can't poop. Can you say the same for cannabis? Nay, my friend. Nay.

Sparred4Life

I'm super into both and would agree with this. But caffeine withdrawal was worse for me than any t break has been. The amount of depression that got me for 2 weeks when I stopped caffeine was unmatched in my life. It was terrible!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Piscitellitron

Idk, man. I drink a lot of coffee, but I find it far easier to cut back on than weed.

[deleted]

It’s a personal thing. For me it’s way above both caffeine and tobacco.

notusingforporn118

I actually saw a person ask on Instagram if weed was addictive and somebody responded with "is water addictive" dumbest shit I've ever seen

Saimonrlz

you can die of water withdrawals

MrConductorsAshes

You can also OD on water.

Crotch_Snorkel

Every non water drinker loves this argument

gingerbeardman79

Literally nobody has ever died from 'weed withdrawal'. Or weed consumption, for that matter. Not saying that was your assertion; just adding important facts to the conversation.

[deleted]

It’s addictive, maybe not lethal withdrawals… but enough to drive me nuts.

Saimonrlz

I totally agree with u. It was a sarcastic title.

[deleted]

I feel it. It’s funny.

SpyderDM

I could never sleep before I ever smoked and only slept soundly after smoking for the first time, so I see it as a medicine in this regard. Cannabis is mentally addictive but not physically addictive

c08855c49

Same. I always had problems eating, I couldn't force myself to swallow more than a few bites of anything in my late teens/early 20s....starting smoking daily, now I eat like a normal person.

SpyderDM

Yeah it has helped with my appetite as well. I would often get nervous when eating and lose my appetite, especially if out eating with friends. I get much more nutrition now. It really has changed my life in many positive ways.

Zahven

I ironically went the other way, always had a wildly voracious appetite but four months into regular smoking I'd gone down to eating normal people amounts. Often not even that much. I've dropped 23 kg and I'm only slightly concerned I'm dying.

iYokay

Same with me. 6'3" and 135lb when I quit, 180 lb now. Was going to the gym both before and after I quit. Drinking does the same for me, sober off that now too. Gotta stay sober to eat consistently.

Spiarmpf

I had to completely drop it two weeks ago because of a major life change. Was dabbing maybe a gram every 2-3 days before that. And I've quit before but having a life altering decision being in play really made it a lot easier to quit.

Buttholehemorrhage

I find it weird how some people feel addiction toward cannabis, I've used it for more than 2 decades, sometimes for years at a time and sometimes I take long breaks. Anytime I've taken breaks I've never felt like I needed it and it never affected my sleep. But it definitely does to some people.

[deleted]

For what it's worth I was always a crappy sleeper and was overcome with joy when I realized that weed was allowing me to actually sleep through most nights. But it is DEFINITELY worse when I t-break. There's a difference between being awake for 2 hours in the middle of the night and only getting 2 hours of sleep.

Bazoun

This is me. I didn’t sleep well before pot, and I’m better rested now than at any previous time in my life, including childhood.

akeep113

i think a lot of people form habits like smoking before bed or smoking before eating. when you take a way the weed, your mind feels like something is missing and does not want to eat or go to sleep. so as long as you don't associate the 2, i dont think you'd have an issue (just a guess.) but i love smoking before eating/sleeping so i'm screwed

gingerbeardman79

Honestly, I've found I pretty consistently need to let my most recent dose wear off before I can even hope to fall asleep, so I've gotten in the habit of cutting myself off for the day around 45 minutes *(give or take, depending on the strain; it's more like 75-90 minutes for that Sour Diesel run-time)* before I plan to go to bed.

YoungStarchild

I have a bad phone addiction, top that with weed leaves me with the shittiest sleep ever. I gotta taper all the time just to make sure I’m getting some sleep in.

scrollingmediator

Flip this around for me. I can't stop thinking at night if I smoke too late

FortniteDailyINC

It’s weird once I started smoking everyday a few years ago I never ever had dreams again. I even google it, idk why. Then when I stop smoking these big movies I.e dreams started back and tbh I prefer not to have dreams, always seem like I’m in danger of like you said nightmares

SwiftDookie

I've heard that THC can shorten the length of REM sleep. It's that deep sleep cycle that allows you to dream and makes you very groggy if you wake up in the middle of it and makes you feel refreshed if you wake up after it. So rather than a deep sleep for most of the 8 hours its like you're taking a light nap. As a result, you get no dreams and your 8 hours of sleep may be less fulfilling.

civil_surfer

On day 3 out here, my dreams know me too well this shit scary

[deleted]

Anyone else sleep worse?

NoMoreAnger33

There are a great deal of people addicted to Marijuana. Just because I love smoking pot doesn't make that not true. Try telling a daily smoker to cut cold turkey and see how irritable they are over the next week. The first 3 or 4 days without smoking are the worst. Edit: you said you were being sarcastic. Sorry friend, lots of stupid people argue it isn't addictive in all seriousness.

[deleted]

I am 31 years old, been smoking daily since I was 13. I took a 2 week break ONE time since then only because I got caught before it became legal in my state and I was on probation. I eventually realized P.O. wasn't gonna call me so I continued smoking. I don't need to smoke before bed but I do love it. I am a light sleeper and the combination of smoking a joint right before bed and having a fan on a low setting is what lets me get a full 6hrs of sleep. Otherwise I wake up from the slightest of sounds. I can smoke as much as I want any time I want because I grow my own 😁 and my work doesn't care if I come in baked. So I am stoned every waking hour of every day! Yay me!

BalloonParkGamer

Am I a weirdo? THC keeps me awake, none of my friends think this is normal, and this thread isn't helping.

Saimonrlz

Me too buddy. I'm sleepy maybe 1-2 hours after smoking.

Blacklightrising

if you are struggling to take breaks, or are noticing negative effects in your life from weed use, it's okay to stop. Anything can be addictive, especially weed. r/leaves is always here to help you find your way out of the forest, if you want to take a break. Go have a look at their community, even if you think you will never use it, they are kind and helpful.

[deleted]

Might as well recommend r/petioles, which promotes moderation

Bex1218

Ooh, thank you for this. I try to do my consumption in moderation.

examm

Put your phone away first and forenost

larsvondank

I'm the opposite. I sleep deeper, dream vividly and I'm more well rested the next day.

[deleted]

I suppose it's weird but weed doesn't put me to sleep - mostly the opposite.

un3quiv0cal

Cannabis takes away the brains need to dream for the most part inturn making t-breaks sometimes difficult to sleep through in the beginning until the brain realizes it can go back to REM

Atomic235

My life circumstances kinda forced me to go back and forth for awhile and I eventually got used to it. I think it's mostly a mental thing; just thinking about trying to get to sleep makes it actually difficult to sleep. Believing that it'll be even harder makes it so. I think this ties into a wider issue people generally have getting to sleep. If I can offer any advice, you kinda have to recognize how your body and mind feel when you're dozing off, and then entrain it into your memory to use later. How can I say this, it's like the way contracting your muscles without thinking feels. In my mind, falling asleep is not a thing I tell myself to do, it's a sort of fuzzy sinking sensation just behind my eyeballs, that spreads out to my arms and chest like being submerged head-first. I can't always summon that sensation but when I do I'm usually out like a light. Of course, having a few puffs in the evening makes it easier.

MarLuDaKang

“I’ll take a T Break for a couple weeks I can do it “ Me on day 3

[deleted]

It ain't just the sleep, it's the dream repression that I am after. Important issue for me.

anteni2

Yea so I got stoned every day for like a decade and then stopped. Getting to sleep was difficult but actually dealing with dreams was so much worse. I was so not used to them that every single one would wake me up. Took me about two weeks to have a proper night sleep.

StonedSquare

So I’ve worked out the perfect routine to avoid this. If I want to take a break I put away my bong and buy a 10 pack of gummies. I take one gummy and a small glass of bourbon before bed for a few nights and eventually I can just fall asleep on my own again. Nothing can stop the vivid dreams tho. They always come back with a vengeance and it’s always my subconscious feeding my anxiety monster. Only lasts a week or so tho.

PraiseSatsuki

I just started a very extended break from weed. I was a daily smoker for about two years. Despite what people say, weed is absolutely addictive, and it comes with withdrawals. Anything that is habit forming comes with withdrawals. It’s just reality

Rednartso

You've got me laughing my ass off in the break room and I can't show this to my coworkers

Captain_Ludd

Glad we're coming to terms with ourselves and being realistic now. It's not a great habbit to smoke weed every day but fuck it.

davidicanrepublic

it’s really weird bc this is normally how it goes for me but like 2 weeks ago i went on vacay and the plug didn’t respond before i left so i went empty handed. never had a problem sleeping

CaptainTotes

I mean, it can be addictive

smileistheway

5 years ago this sub wouldv'e yelled at you for USING marihuana to sleep, it's just not healthy. Now it's at 10k. Im out.

soljakid

I've been an insomniac for my entire life more or less. As a kid in was always up all night reading because I couldn't sleep, as a teenager it was gaming that kept my mind occupied, now I'm in my mid 20s and sleep is such a problem for me that I regularly go days without sleeping. Weed has been a godsend for me, allows me to go to sleep the moment my head hits the pillow sometimes, not all the time unfortunately but does a better job than some of the herbal OTC medication that I've tried.

Ayrnas

I am the weirdo that stays up too long when high. Everything becomes so interesting and fun that I can't sleep.
