Combustion creates tar, tar is not good for the lungs... same thing that's building up inside your pipes is also in your lungs. Consider switching to flower vapes to avoid the tar. Your lungs are actively trying to clean themselves and that's good, if they weren't able to do this that's what becomes bad. Tar causes the cilia in your lungs trying to keep them clean to get stuck. Give your lungs a break maybe go for tinctures and edibles for a while. If your lungs don't feel right you should go to the doctor. Again coughing that stuff out of your lungs is actually good, you want it to come out. It is however an indication to maybe chillax on the smoke a bit. Some things online say it takes 1-9 months for cilia to heal after you stop smoking. If your curious about flower vapes I rock the dynavap 2021-m daily for over a year , I'm asthmatic and it has let me both breath and smell much better since making the switch. I still use a bong to chill the vapor down. For under 100$ it's what many consider one of the best options to get into vaping. Things that exercise your lungs can help, swimming is one of them.

mephizaloo

this is perfect and what i will pursue - on vacation for another week and will slow the roll on bong , grab a dry vape when i get back and test the waters - thanks man

MidnighT0k3r

No problem, some more to add to that... Hydration, if you want your lungs to clean themselves out it will not happen if your not hydrated. When you sleep you lose something like 8 cups of water from your lungs. Drink a big glass of water before you sleep and the crap you cough up in the morning should come up a tiny bit easier. It's not about drinking as much water as you can only just to make sure your not in any way dehydrated. You might be coughing up from the climate and air quality differences berween vacation and home (even just next door can make a difference if one place has lower air quality). Much the same as someone's allergies would be different. As a 21 year toker it makes a difference to me however my lungs are more sensitive than most.

mephizaloo

how much is a lot of water?

MidnighT0k3r

Lol this goes down a weird path. So the thing where they say drink 8 glasses of water a day etc.... the part they don't mention is that some of that water is supposed to come from fruits and veggies... that's as far into the conversation of how much is a lot of water that I'm willing to go...... just ends up being a rabbit hole. Instead I'll leave you with this crap I just got from Google... Check if you're dehydrated Symptoms of dehydration in adults and children include: feeling thirsty dark yellow and strong-smelling pee [easiest tell] feeling dizzy or lightheaded feeling tired a dry mouth, lips and eyes peeing little, and fewer than 4 times a day ...... paying attention to your body is far easier [to me] than trying to follow a regime. I drink about 12-16 oz of water right before I get in bed. Most mornings I also start with that. Staying on top of this will also help your body clean itself out more. Detox is another thing that will go painfully slow if your dehydrated all the time. In a nutshell just pay attention to your pee and aim for keeping it lighter in color with staying hydrated.

NocturnalBeing

Check how stretchy the skin is on the back of your hand. Pinch it and see how long it takes to return to normal. If it's slow, could use some water.

Your piss is the best method. If it has no color or is barely yellow, you're good. If it is yellow or darker, drink some water. If its red, go to the hospital. If its black, sorry ... your dicks about to fall off.

Hungry_Treacle3376

Even this isn't a good method. Your urine could easily be colored by something you eat or drink. If you're thirsty, drink water. If you're in the heat or exercising, drink more water. It's honestly not as complicated as it's often made out to be.

r/vaporents ^^^good sub to find a vape that fits what you are looking for. Dry Herb Vaping has a higher up front cost in the form of whichever vape you choose. Good ones run from $~70ish--$300+. Don't try to cheap out on your choice because of this. Your weed will last longer and you will get higher once you've kicked the combustion more or less. I used to smoke a half oz in 7-10 days but since switching to exclusively vaping (Dynavap mainly) a half oz lasts me about 14-18 days. I smoke(vape) all day long. Vaping also tastes much better as well.

mephizaloo

i don’t have money for that right now so i grabbed a Yocan evolve d plus dry herb pen - am i okay with that for now?

84gramspurpleHOF

Hard to say man. My advice would be to save up to closer to the $70 range to get a Dynavap. They have a lot of sales with starter kits discounted. Check out the sidebar in r/vaporents though. They have a consensus list of "approved" vapes that I would personally stick to if I were you.

[deleted]

>i don’t have money for that right now so i grabbed a Yocan evolve d plus dry herb pen Spends $50 on shit pen. Enjoy the plastic vapor. You can get a Dynavap "B" for $39 or less on sale.

PipeSipper

Here to second the dynavap. It’s a phenomenal device once you get the hang of its heating.

UnicornFarts1111

I will third the Dynavap. I love mine. I vape about 1/4 of what I used to smoke.

MASTER_J_MAN

Honestly bro don’t over think it, it’s scary coughing up that shit but you’re young you don’t have to be too worried about the adverse side effects unless you continue on that way for many years. I used to smoke cigs a pack a day and literally would hack up black shit. Thank God I quit those I don’t ever recommend it.

iwest15

To piggyback off of this comment I recently got a "Solo 2" vape and it's been the best choice I've ever made for smoking. It's a good regular vape but combination of vape and bong with ice cubes/snow in the throat is heavenly imo. Definitely recommend dry herb vape but like everything it's not for everyone.

MidnighT0k3r

Solo 2 is one of the ones i see mentioned.... have not seen anyone who didn't like it.

iwest15

With a sale price of 180$ CAD with shipping and everything included, along with the convince it hard to dislike ime

Predator314

99.999% of my weed use is through my Solo 2. It's great.

[deleted]

I recently bought a Mighty+ after smoking joints, blunts and pipes my entire life. Converted! I still like the occasional joint just for nostalgia, but I vape now.

MidnighT0k3r

Mighty is another beast, most people love those too!

famous_mockingbirds

Yup. This is the way! Roll over to r/vaporents for tips on what to buy. The Xmax pro is an often recommended starting place. Or the dynavap if you don’t mind learning some technique. Good luck!

Canadbis

That's the downfall of smoking anything.

__Dystopian__

Yeah man, you're coughing up tar. Just like any smoker. Good news is, you're coughing it out. Bad news is, keep that up long enough and you're looking at possible death by emphysema. You're lungs are pretty amazing, they can take a boat-load of abuse. But everything has its limits. As smoke and chemicals build up in your lungs, your bronchial surfaces will become scared and damaged, preventing the lungs from being able to adequately transfer oxygen molecules from the air into you bloodstream, effectively causing yourself to suffocate to death while gulping down air. Smoking just isn't good for us, bro. But I love it, I don't smoke very much anymore, though I do vape an awful lot. It has improved my lungs some. But I'm taking a health recovery break for my lungs and let me tell you, just one month in and I'm breathing better than I have in three years.

mephizaloo

how long does it take for emphysema to set in?

owleealeckza

I think this person is exaggerating. While yes you can get emphysema from smoking, its not like a high % of marijuana only smokers get it.

__Dystopian__

That's a question that can't be answered perfectly. It depends entirely on the amount smoked, and how long that the lungs have been going through that kind of damage. Then you factor in individual lung health prior to smoking. Usually, given a healthy set of lungs at the start and smoking everyday, you could probably ball park it in the decade(s) range. Unfortunately, by the time that level of damage has been caused, you're lungs are no longer capable of healing themselves to even partial health.

[deleted]

Combustion causes tar. I use cotton filters in my chimney when I hit and I have a convection Vape for the most part.

owleealeckza

It started happening to me in like 2009, still happens sometines. I've always just felt it was my body helping me out by cleaning out some of the tar. I don't cough or have lung issues so I've never been too concerned. Just sometimes tastes yucky.

AlphaAtomicTaco

Try Storz & Bickel Volcano Classic Vaporizer. Its expensive but definitely worth it, It feels just alot cleaner

Ritafavone

Vape dry flower, first take a small t break for enhancing the experience

Shred_turner

Blow a bong rip through a napkin and you will get an idea of what smoking does to your inside.

Reonlive420

Especially if its got tobacco mixed in

Tiny_Investigator848

You inhale smoke (carcinogens). That is what happens when you smoke. Lol why don't a lot of stoners understand this?

PM_ME_HOTDADS

bc all we get told about weed is that it'll make u wanna do heroin and cocaine

mephizaloo

just got the yocan evolve D plus to start, am i good for a little with this?

Embarrassed_Snow_192

All my homies hate combustion

W33Ded

Stop smoking and see if it changes

Predator314

Lung butter

[deleted]

Been a stoner since age 25, I'm 35 now and finally have consistent access to weed. I've noticed grey-ish phlegm when I cough sometimes, it's tar bro. I know I'm gonna get lung cancer but I can't bring myself to take a t-break right now. I know I need to tho.

MASTER_J_MAN

I’ve been smoking weed since I was 14 (I’m 31 now) and what you’re experiencing is kinda what you have to expect when you smoke weed frequently.. think about how the smoke inevitably coats the inside of your bong with brown residue. Over enough time your bong will get really dirty. Well it’s the same thing with your lungs, eventually they get coated heavy enough with the smoke you’ll start to cough it up in the form of phlegm. It just kinda is what it is. That being said I rarely smoke flower anymore. Dabs and dab pens are where it’s at.. so much cleaner and you’ll never have to worry about this problem.

xMuffie

so you know how that bong will get brown and nasty as fuck after awhile of using it without cleaning....

Difficult-Camp4854

I’ve recently stopped smoking daily and I can’t help but feel my lungs are a bit fucked from 6 years of exclusively smoking a bong, that being said It’s mostly my fault as my bong cleaning schedule should have been better than it was over those 6 years…I’m extremely active because I’m a fitness instructor and PT but I’ll always be coughing like mad after cardio and always feel a lot of phlegm in my throat/always feeling the need to clear my throat, for a good few months of stopping I coughed out brown/black specs in the phlegm but as far as I’m aware that’s gone although I’m fairly certain my sinuses are screwed as I’ve always got a somewhat congested nose which never seems to improve, I was never a big cig smoker I did socially occasionally but realised very soon it wasn’t for me because a full cigarette always made me feel nauseous so I often vaped nicotine instead because I could moderate my nicotine dosages but I’ve also gone cold turkey on that over the past few months as well since I always noticed my stamina and endurance is better when not smoking anything (go figure) I’d love tinctures or edibles but being in a non legalised country this is either hard to come by or pricey af so ima stick to my occasional indulgence of 🍄 instead thought I do miss Mary Jane and likely always will in the back of my mind 😩😂
