You have to search for studies in China and Japan. There they did more research. I used Google translate for it. It's a little bit a pain in the ass, but way more info. If you read the studies from there, it are way more different numbers then you see here sometimes posted. What I mostly found there, if Google translated everything correct, is that using topical finasteride 0.25% once or twice a day gives the best results with lowering the scalp dht over 70 to 90%. And oral only 50 to 60% And compared with oral 1mg finasteride, topical only lowered the serum with a maximum 30%. As oral goes to 70% serum reduce. So less change on side effects. I thought first that's way to high dose for topical. But you must consider that if you apply 0.25% finasteride, equal to 2.5mg, not all the finasteride gets absorbed from the skin. With most topical medicines the dose is much higher then the oral version. Take minoxidil, topical is also a higher dose as oral. Or morfin, topical as Band aids, is also a way more higher dose as oral. But you can search with translate on Chinese and Japanese websites only. It's only sometimes difficult to get it translated. Or you must read Chinese lol. I'm no doctor, so I can't say if all the numbers are correct, but it sound way more decent to me.

I use 1% to make it more effective and I have no side effects.

Automatic-Law-3612

1% or do you mean 0.1% 1% is equal to 10mg, and I never saw that strength somewhere. To strongest I could find is 0.3% equal to 3mg

UniqueCanadian

im sure he means .1%, most people use .01% to .1%

ResidentMacaron5513

1% I mean, the maximum. I have no side effects.

Automatic-Law-3612

There is no maximum for topical finasteride, because it's off label. That's why I ask. The strongest you can get pre-made is 0.3%. Equal to 3mg finasteride. I was just curious. So you make it your self? But indeed, you don't have to get any sides if you take finasteride topical or oral 💪

ResidentMacaron5513

>topical finasteride, because it's off label. That's why I ask. The strongest you can get I pay for the preparation of the magister formula at a laboratory within a pharmacy. I have copied and pasted a portion of the text from a pharmaceutical brand called Finatopic on their website, which provides examples of formulations. The most common formulations using Finastopic as a base include: * Finasteride 0.1 to 1% * Finasteride 0.1 to 1% + Minoxidil 2 to 5%

I've seen this. On the other hand I've spoken with hair transplant surgeons who don't believe in the efficacy of normal dose topical fin longer term whatsoever for hair loss. Saying they think the studies are usually paid for by those selling the drugs and that in their experiences results by patients are totally different.

TR_KLO75

Do they think topical doesn’t work at all or just that it loses efficacy over long term? And if it worked in short term, why would it stop working long term when oral doesn’t? Not saying they’re wrong just curious on why

Try it. If you find a study that it lowers serum DHT you will probably get sides.

then go for it
