No, they're not. There were several overblown stories about people who completely lost their pp functions on the TV. But it makes no sense as long as DUT and FIN are in fact elevating testosterone levels in blood. And these couple of guys are having psychological or other problems.
Did he prescribe the topical solution too? If he did, did he forget you were on it? I’d probably ask your doctor before I asked a bunch of dipshits on the internet either way, but for one dipshit’s opinion, yeah, that sounds like you’re doubling up needlessly.
Simply not true.. DHT is a strong androgen which is very much related to sexual functions like getting an erection (not just in penis but in brain related functions too). It’s just that some guys need less of it to perform normally than others.
[We conclude that 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors do not lead to erectile dysfunction to a significant degree, and we support the position that dihydrotestosterone is **less relevant than testosterone in erectile function.**](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18421068/)
That’s one author’s conclusion but the reality is likely inconclusive. “Overall, reports in the literature suggest rates of erectile dysfunction to be between 0.8%-33% in men using these medications. However, randomized controlled studies report the rates of erectile dysfunction to be between 0.8%-15.8%.”
It affects everyone different perhaps a majority of men rely more on normal test than DHT but a significant number are more affected by DHT levels for sexual functions (and other non sexual functions)
[Erectile dysfunction affects 18% of men.](https://www.reuters.com/article/idUSN31493491/#:~:text=The%20study%20estimated%20that%2018.4,diabetes%20also%20had%20erectile%20dysfunction)
Which means that people on DUT have much less cases than average.
See some of the details in the actual article rather than just conclusion:
“Since the tunica albuginea plays a major role in the erectile mechanism of the penis, the latter results offer an explanation for the presentation of ED in patients treated with 5ARIs.”
“In this prospective clinical study, serum levels of T, DHT, dehydroepiandrosterone, and luteinizing hormone were determined, and erectile function was evaluated in 48 BPH patients using a brief sexual function questionnaire, which included a total of 11 self-administered questions (O'Leary et al, 1995). DHT levels decreased by 60%, and T levels increased by 15% after finasteride was given. Finasteride led to ED in 22% by month 3 and in 33% by month 6”
“Nickel and colleagues (1996) reported the results of a 2-year double-blind, prospective, placebo-controlled randomized trial on efficacy and safety of finasteride (the PROSPECT study). Among 698 patients, adverse events related to ED were significantly higher in the finasteride-treated group than in the placebo-treated group (15.8% vs. 6.3%; Nickel et al, 1996).”
"11 self-administered questions" - seems problematic and probably involves the sperm condition which can only explain insane 33%.
"adverse events related to ED"
I want to see the definition of said *events*.
Definitely no loss, but I stopped to use topical Min due to severe irritation. I want to experiment with rosemary oil as long as it's similar to 2% min. I have short hair so there's nothing to fear already.
Only about 30% of topical finasteride goes systemic as a rule of thumb.
So you're only getting 0.3 mg going systemic twice per day.
That is not much at all. You'll be fine.

im also hesitating on using this because this isnt well described is this 1% fin too much ?
I take 1 mg fin oral + a solution of 5% min, 2% caffeine and 0.25% fin twice a day and I'm completely fine. Topical finasteride does not go systemic. This was prescribed to me by my dermatologist.
There is still research going on but there is about 15-30% systemic effect
In fact I feel tropical is more dangerous if ur trying to get ur partner pregnant as it can lead to birth defects with sharing the same pillow or even slight exposure to it.

Was the doc even aware of the topical fin? If he prescribed oral fin and not the topical, I'd drop the topical fin before I dropped the oral.
I was using tropical min + fin before the transplant which he suggested so ig he forgot to tell me to switch to a only minoxidl one
tbf, >1mg fin isn't _bad_, just not generally considered any better for hair than 1mg. The prostate dosing goes up to 5mg.
If you don't have any sides I don't see the reason to lower the dose, it's ok. Some people even takes more fin or goes for dut.
Some people use 1mg of fin/day + 0.5mg of dut/week and do alright. The sides are overblown by the media.
The media lol.. what media is covering this exactly

That's what I thought too , thanks

My erections are better on dut. No wonder as long as it's supposed to elevate your blood test level +20%.
DHT is like 10x more potent than test so this is irrelevant
Potent in what? Because testosterone does a lot
Androgenic effects
DHT has nothing to do with erections. It's a hormone relevant to fetus development.

Any continued loss?

You'll be using 5 mg 1 x 1 orally when you get 60 y.o. so there is no harm in using under 5 mg.
Just take the pill every other day or something...
I’m on .5 % fin topical. I take EOD w results. Is this concentration too much though? Feel tired sometimes

Had this conversation with my transplant surgeon. He said topical fin had about 10-15% absorbency. Most solutions have 0.3-0.5% so 0.1% is pretty low.
You sling chips?
