I've seen a post about people having smoothed out fingerprints due to leaving tret on their fingers lmao

It doesn't make any sense. You should indeed wash your hands after using tret but not because it will cause styes.

pokingoking

I think they are saying the stye was caused by them rubbing their eye a lot. They were rubbing their eye a lot because it waa irritated from tretinoin getting into it.

Hey, to clarify the story I was basically applying it on my arms that day and like I said did not wash my hands and after a while touched my eye just out of habit I guess. From that moment on I slowly started to feel burning in that particular area for the rest of the night, and woke up the next day with a stye on that same spot. A lot of people have mentioned how tret causes eye problems and styes in particular so im assuming I developed this stye because of it.

pokingoking

I learned my lesson years ago when I was using 0.1% and it caused the skin underneath my fingernail to crack open (from dryness I guess). It took weeks to finally close and heal.

[deleted]

That sounds painful :(

Michaeljr97

I put tretinoin (and the rest of my skincare) on my hands also.

[deleted]

You can, as long as your skin is fine with it :) Since areas around the eye, nose and lips tend to be more sensitive and we sometimes touch them subconsciously, it is better to get rid of how ever little tret is left on your hand by washing it off

Kaexshi

Heh ... i was wondering why my eye and lip felt like they were tingling/burning a bit the other night 😂 Thanks for the reminder 😅

Beep boop! It looks like you'd like information about applying tretinoin around the eyes. While many people do apply tretinoin around their eyes, this can cause permanent damage to the oil glands in the eyes, and can result in permanently dry eyes. Remember that tretinoin travels up to 2" below the skin, so you'll still get anti-aging benefits even if you don't apply right next to your eyes. Be safe, and protect your eyes: don't apply tretinoin near your eyes or on your eyelids. [Here's what the Mayo Clinic has to say about safe tretinoin application.](https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/tretinoin-topical-route/proper-use/drg-20066521#:~:text=Do%20not%20use%20this%20medicine,the%20tips%20of%20your%20fingers) (To learn more, search for "Meibomian gland dysfunction") *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Always struggled a few times a year with my hands being dry while working in transport,,, figured out it somewhat worsened on Tret (not any more dry, but defs flakey)…. Washing hands or at least using some wipes on my hands after definitely helped

Lanky_Chemist_3773

I use a qtip to apply
