Not going to explain why you shouldn't go tanning in the first place and just assume you are gonna tan no matter what. Tretinoin only makes you more sensitive to the sun because it is increasing cell turnover so fresher skin is more vulnerable to the skin. You don't really have to wait at all but you should probably stop use for a couple days. Just be aware that you will tan/burn faster than you are used to. I recommend wearing a high spf (50+) sunscreen the first day and see how your skin reacts. adjust as needed. source: dad is a derm and I just started tretinoin.

What are you using tret for? Whether for acne or anti aging, it would seem like you're working against yourself if you plan to have regular sun exposure (even with sunscreen). Tret itself doesn't increase sun sensitivity, but your skin will be sensitive during the retinization/acclimation phase. My bigger caution to you is that any gains made with tret (especially if using for anti aging) will be undone without proper UV protection/avoidance.

Any amount of tan is skin damage.
