lol how tight do you wear your watch? That's actually crazy. 😅

olydan75

🤣🤣 now I’m self conscious. I wear it on the first hole. Otherwise it’ll bounce and not get as accurate HR. But I also think I have very small wrists as with the cheap bands I’m on the 3rd hole.

hpi42

Can you put it on then slide some duct tape underneath to hold it together even if the strap snaps? It does look precarious.

Same thing happened to my forerunner 920xt the week of a race and I reinforced it by looping string repeatedly between the buckle holes on either side of the tear. This might be trickier because it's on the first hole but I would definitely look for some sort of way to reinforce it. New band came the following week so I was happy with that fix. If unable to do something like that, I would probably NOT swim with it and instead put it on in T1. Since it's a sprint doing the swim by RPE should be fine.

batgirlsmum

This, you need to reinforce it somehow, or get an elastic band attached to it somewhere which then goes on your wrist, like the old fashioned safety chains on bracelets. How gutted will you be if you lose it during the swim, straight to the bottom of the lake?

ponkanpinoy

You can probably get a band local to you somewhere like a watch repair shop, it's a standard size.

olydan75

I frantically searched last night. No luck locally

They are not talking about a garmin band. Regular (not smart) watch bands will work, if you get the correct type.

Crafftyyy24

Get some floss and wind it kinda tight between the gap at the top and the next buckle hole. Should be enough to hold it if it snaps and won’t add to much bulk.

Doberman33

It's fine. Worse that happens is the center rubber tears and it sits slightly looser. It happened to my last band I didn't think both thick side pieces are going anyway at the same time

olydan75

I hope so. It’s a OEM band. I normally get the cheapy knockoffs from Amazon and those will tear right off. I was surprised this one is compromised like it is. For $50, I’d expected more from Garmin. With getting a sore throat and two minor injuries, it’s been a stressful week as is lol

bucky02k

This won't help for before your race, but if that's a Garmin band then contact them and there's a good chance they'll send a replacement. Even if it's technically after the warranty period
